'FOND' font association usability

I just updated my MacBook Pro and iMac desktop to Yosemite 10.10.2.
Now I am having font problems. I tried to add fonts I have used for years using FontBook, but it says 'FOND' font association usability and warns me to not use these fonts.
This happens on both my laptop and desktop.
Any idea what to do? I use these fonts (about 12-15 fonts from the Times, Helvetica Neue and Giovanni families) regularly in my work.
Thanks,
Scott

  • Font not loading in Leopord - Stumper

Here's the short of it: ITC Stone Serif isn't recognized by 3rd party software. It shows up in Text Edit, Mail, etc. but not in the font lists of Adobe CS3.
The long of it: The font has it's suitcase files, "ITC Stone Serif" and "ITC Stone Serif Bold" and some of it's outline files, "StoneSer" "StoneSerIta" and "StoneSerBol". I've used Font Book and Linotype FontExplorer X and discovered that it's missing a few more outline files "StoneSerSem" "StoneSerSemIta" and a couple more. Font Book gives a "'FOND' font association usability" error for the Semibold weights.
I don't need the semibold weights, just the regular and bold (which I have the suitcase and outline files for), is there any way to rebuild, repair, or revalidate the font weights that are present? I'm guessing that CS3 programs won't recognize the entire family because of the missing outline files. Thoughts?
(I've cleared the font caches for the system and applications, as well as made sure I had good font files from the client)

Failing the “’FOND’ font association usability” test probably means that the font has no outlines but only bitmaps. This makes sense in this case because you've only got the three PostScript files.
If you suspect there is a problem with the font validation engine used by Font Book or with font activation, please file a bug or send Apple feedback and include the font. Even if we know which validation test is involved, it’s hard for us to track down any problems without having a copy of the font itself which triggers it. The following URLs are the places to start:
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/bugrptform.html
    http://developer.apple.com/faq/bugreporting.html
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
In this case, it sounds like what's happening is that you have multiple FOND resources in your suitcases, and one of them (or more) has no outlines, probably ITC Stone Serif. The easiest way to remove them would be to install the Developer tools and use Rez and DeRez. Once the tools are in place, launch Terminal and navigate to a folder containing a copy of the font suitcases (as always, don't muck with your only copy).
Use DeRez to get a text version of the font data:
DeRez 'ITC Stone Serif' > 'ITC Stone Serif.rez'
Now you can edit the 'ITC Stone Serif.rez' file with TextEdit, TextWrangler, or your favorite text editor. Look for a line starting "data 'FOND'" that has "Semibold" in it. You can then delete the resource. There should be one for semibold and one for semibold italic.
Once the offending resources are gone, turn it back into a suitcase in Terminal:
    Rez -t ffil -c MOVR -o 'ITC Stone Serif.suit' 'ITC Stone Serif.rez'
The suitcase 'ITC Stone Serif.suit" should now be installable and work.
Alternatively, you can to go a place like www.versiontracker.com and get a resource editor like Rezilla. I don't use any of these myself, so I can't vouch for them, but you should be able to open your suitcase, find the two semibold 'FOND' resources, and delete them. Once they're gone, things should be OK.
(Note, there might be only one semibold 'FOND' resource, covering both roman and italic styles.)
If there are no 'FOND' resources dedicated to the semibold faces -- which is unlikely -- it may still be possible to get rid of any references to them, but it will be a lot harder.

  • Gadget font - can I get it for OS 10.5.2?

I have some graphic design templates using Gadget font (in Quark Xpress) and now my layout is totally messed up because Gadget isn't in the system. Can I get it somewhere? I don't want to have to redo my whole entire layout.

I got curious myself about what all was in there, so opened up Font Book, then added all the fonts in iDVD I didn't have installed. Here's what I got:
    Algerian Condensed LET Fonts
    Gadget
    Humana Serif ITC TT
    Machine ITC TT
    Textile
    Wanted LET Fonts
I don't recall seeing Algerian or Wanted before, they are evidently new. I've only installed one font previously--one which I like, and it reports that dang "FOND font association usability" minor error, but seems to work. So unless something else installed some OS 9 fonts in the /Library/Fonts folder, I think that's it for iDVD.

  • Tseng - Font Issues need your help

Tseng, I am calling upon your knowledge of font issues. I read some previous threads regarding font issues relating to a validation error of the follow:
    'FOND' Font Association usability
I am attempting to install the Frutiger font which is, according to OS X ver. 10.5.6, a Post Script Type 1 Outline font.
I understand that Leopard has some issues dealing with bitmap-only type fonts, however if this is recognized as a Post Script Type 1 Outline font then where lies the issue?
Also, even stranger, is that despite the errors from validating the font in fontbook, the font works on almost every computer in my office except one... how strange is that. PS. I also did all software updates just to be sure.
If you have any suggestions or information I would be ever so thankful!

    Yes they are all present.
I compared my computer (where the font works) to the computer that the font doesn't work and the files are the exact same.
    It is an odd situation.
Even on my computer where the fonts work, if I go into Font Book and validate the font it still shows errors, but it works.

  • Fix for FOND error on Lion

I just upgraded my system from Leopard to Lion and I noticed that now my Univers fonts will not activate.  When I went to Fontbook I noticed that all of my Univers fonts come up with the same error message 'FOND' font association unability and now it will not activate or install.  I went through several other forums and found that this error was common on Leopard but I haven't found any mention of it on Lion.  There also does not seem to be any available fixes for Lion according to my searches.
I attempted to reinstall the font with a new version of the Univers CE family but that refused to install because the older font that was having issues with Lion was still installed (albeit not working).  I attempted to remove the non-functional font and then reinstall the new one and that still did not work.  If there is a way to just force Lion to install the font despite the FOND error that would be preferable.
This is highy inconvenient since the Univers font family is what I use the most in Quark and now I will have to manually switch over to another font for my files to display correctly.  It is not the entire Univers font family that is affected by this glitch, only the Univers fonts that have CE in them.  According to all of the reports I've seen with Leopard, this issue is caused by it not recognizing bitmaps or something like that.  If anyone can offer any insight on how I can fix this I would be very appreciative.

kirchoff - if you still have an issue with the font, have you completely cleared the font cache by restarting your mac in safe mode? I'm wrestling with FOND errors in Lion myself and that has alleviated 'some' of my problems. my other problems are related to screen fonts that have multiple weights contained within the file and internal names that don't resolve well...but i digress. good luck!

  • How to get Font's associated with a pdf document.

    Hi All,
I am currently working on a project related to Document Management in SAP. For this I have a set of pdf document's that needs to be classified as 'searchable' and 'Non-searchable'. I am planning to identify the document based on Font contents i.e a searchable document has some font associated with it, and non-searchable documents do not have any font associated with it.
I am trying to use the class cl_fp_pdf_object and get the information about font. I see that there is no function which gives me this information directly. Is there any way to get font information of a pdf documents using classes ? or Is there any way to identify directly weather a document is searchable or not ?  Please help.
DATA: l_fp          TYPE REF TO if_fp,
               l_pdfobj      TYPE REF TO if_fp_pdf_object.
        Create PDF Object.
          l_pdfobj = l_fp->create_pdf_object( connection = p_dest ).
        Set document.
          l_pdfobj->set_document( pdfdata = l_pdf ).
        Set task to get metadata.
          l_pdfobj->set_task_getmetadata( ).
        Execute, call ADS.
          l_pdfobj->execute( ).
    Thanks
    Aditya

Just curious....why would you make "font" the basis of that classification?

  • Determining if a string has any special font or styling associated

    Hi,
I am having problems displaying certain Java Strings as I suspect they have some styling or font associated with them, and therefore when these strings are displayed on a web page, they do not appear correctly.
I basically want to ensure these strings are plain, and have no styling.
    regards
    chris

Stirngs don't have fonts. They're just zeroes and ones. Don't mix up data and representation.

  • Has anyone experienced text going missing after using Change All in the Find Font dialogue box?

I manage an artwork production studio and two members of staff have separately reported that when using the Change All command to substitute fonts in InDesign's Find Font dialogue box, some text disappears from their documents. All affected text is originally set in the same font, and most of the conversion is fine but a few instances of text are actually removed (not reflowed). In the latest reported case, only four or five instances of text were 'deleted' across two pages of a 20pp document.
I've found a link that refers to the same issue but it's unresolved (http://www.listsearch.com/InDesign/Thread/index.lasso?20041#last)
I haven't been able to replicate this behaviour but would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced it and if so, under what circumstances it can occur, and what work-rounds or fixes are available.
Applies to InDesign CS3 and CS4, have not tested with CS5 because we haven't upgraded yet.

Joel, I am having the same problem you described. I have read of similar posts on PrintPlanet.com. Someone there thought it was a different text engine or something in CS4 which may be causing the problem.
I don't know what causes this but I believe it can be traced to a previously created file in CS3 is saved as a CS4 document.
The fonts associated with this problem for me are always Gill Sans, Palatino and some form of Helvetica. There may be others but these are the ones we notice the most.
Today I worked on an InDesign CS4 file. When I opened it I was given a missing font warning. I went to Find Font and it was different typefaces of Gill Sans that was missing. When I changed the missing font to Gill Sans Regular entire lines of text disappeared. I closed the document without saving it and reopened it. I did the same thing in replacing fonts. This time no text disappeared. Not reflowed; not white; not hidden—gone.
This is what I have been seeing for the past few months. The disappearing text is random and cannot be duplicated, though fonts may disappear in some other place. You never know where text will just disappear.
The workaround I have found is to export your file to an INX document and reopen it in CS3. You have to replace all missing text before saving it as INX, though. To my knowledge CS3 has never had this happen.
The workaround, though it works for me, is annoying. I'd like to know what to do to resolve this issue. What's the use in having CS4 if you can't trust it completely.
I use a Mac running 10.6.3. I also have running Suitcase Fusion 2.

  • Acrobat 9 Form Issues - Font, URL, and Print Issues

    Hello folks,
We are developing an Acrobat PDF (I have Pro updated to 9.4.5) with about 30 fields. Some of them contain a default label name, others are blank, and all fields have a unique name. The blank fields on the form are being filled via an automated web services API from Aspose. All info is entered and the PDF is then flattened by the web service.
The document fully populates with all expected data but we are running into three issues:
    1) A field that gets populated with a URL by the script properly becomes clickable if the font is set to Helvetica, but when set to Verdana or Arial fails to be recognized by Acrobat.
    2) When I create a new form field, and assign a font face/size/color and input a default value, if I go back and try and change the size the default content seems to hold it's original size unless I do a full cut/paste of the value back into the box.
    3) We are getting the notorious "An Error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created the PDF document to correct the problem"
The odd part is we were not getting that error at first - even with data populated. It was only once we started working on getting the fields horizontally and vertically aligned that the error presented itself.
Any thoughts? I have closed and opened Acrobat, tried opening from Acrobat instead of double clicking the PDF but nothing seems to help.

    thanks Mylenium
the font association problem is something recent though, since I used acrobat to print mails directly from my gmail account previously...
it's galling but I installed a free pdf printer which does the job, I needed copies of these mails urgently !
as to the update issue, I see no aum.exe, msiexec.exe or setup.exe running... but that's quite above my head... do I look for those exact processes or are they generic names for processes ?
does my question make sense ????

  • Setting font based on input parameter

I would like to set the font of certain fields within my form based on the language. We have a table created that will store the language code and the font associated with the language. I am passing this value to the form, but I can't get my scripting correct to set the font to the value of the parameter. If I hard code the value, then the font changes as expected (this.font.typeface = "MS P Gothic"). Can someone please help me? Here is a sample of what I've tried:
    FormCalc:
    If (!$record.V_LANGU_FONT.rawValue.isNull) then
    this.font.typeface = $record.V_LANGU_FONT.rawValue
    endif
    JavaScript:
    if (!$record.V_LANGU_FONT.rawValue.isNull) {
    this.font.typeface = $record.V_LANGU_FONT.rawValue;
    Thanks!

    Hi Sandy,
That was a wonderful article! Unfortunately, I'm still having a problem. When I do a print Preview PDF within SFP, I see the error "Argument mismatch in property or function argument". I have added a normal text field to my design page, set the text field to invisible and bound it to my input field of V_LANGU_FONT. I originally had the field defined as CHAR200 (based on the FPFONTREPL-DESTINATION field), but then changed it to STRING based on the article. I then added the scripting to one of the elements that needs to have the font dynamically changed. I've added a screen shot showing the scripting:
If I hardcode the font name:
The font for the element gets changed correctly. Can you please tell me what is wrong?
    Thanks!

  • Adobe Source Sans Pro font broken in adobe muse

    Uggghh.
I'm getting tired of updating Muse to find that something that used to work is now broken and I have to spend hours/days/weeks either re-working a site to make it look right, or waiting for a fix.
Seriously I don't have time for this.
I open up my project this morning which I haven't worked on for a day or two.
Now Source Sans Pro web font is not displaying correctly. The Bold looks like regular. The Light looks like regular. The black looks like regular.
    What is going on?
    2 other gripes.
    1. Adobe Muse seems to lose font associations in another site I needed to do a small change on. I had Quattrocentro Roman and Pacifico fonts (non-web fonts) in the site. However, when I install the fonts, Muse can't automatically pick up that the fonts are there. I had to manually go and reselect the fonts tediously through the entire document to get the appearance right. I had a client sitting next to me while I did that for an hour while I'm making excuses. A real good look that is. Indesign picks up fonts the instant they are install, and updates the document flawlessly and reliably. But Muse cannot do that. We need a "find font" feature!
    2. Please don't suspend Typekit services when an install is available. You forced me to update to 2014 version of creative cloud, suspending the type kit service until I upgraded. I have to open and edit jobs for print, and the ones that have type kit fonts in them, I was not able to edit until I upgraded. I waited 2 hours while the first download failed, and then I attempted again. I can't afford to be held ransom to an update. I have lots of small jobs to output ready for press, and when I come into work to find that I can't output a job that I was working on yesterday it makes my blood boil.
I don't have time to be a beta tester, going through logs and testing. I need tools that work reliably!

    Hi,
Sorry for the inconvenience. Please see Re: Source Sans Pro not displaying in 'Design' mode
    Thanks,

  • Fontographer PS fonts issue with Yosemite

I have created a number of PS fonts (.otf) with Fontagrapher 5. They have been working flawlessly ever since on my MacBook Air (mid 2012) 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
Since moving yesterday from Mavericks to Mac OS X Yosemite, things are terrible. All fonts created with Fontographer are not displaying and printing correctly …. my 6 indian music books and numerous documents  in hindi/english diacritical are thus unusable. I tried with Nisus Writer Pro, Text Edit and Mellel to no avail.
Checking with the Apple software FontBook, it says all my Fontographer Fonts are « usable » (green ok check) and that there is no conflict/problem. To be sure, I removed all factory fonts which could potentially make problems (orange warning), rebooted the Mac but, despite that, nothing works properly. Fonts are incredibly SCRETCHED on display (space between characters is huge) and some of them don't print as they are displayed. I also naturally updated the printer  (Xerox Work Center 6605 DN) driver to the latest Yosemite compatible version (oct.16, 2014) but that doesn't change anything. I also tried different ways of making pdf from the different word processors but the same thing occured on pdf.
Please, kindly check and inquire about this important issue with Apple fonts experts. Number of us, using Fontographer Fonts, must be facing the same incompatibility with Yosemite.
Please do let me know what I can do to solve the problem. I don't even know how I can downgrade to Maverick yet.
Thanking you in advance for a quick reply
    Patrick MOUTAL

Well, Kurt Lang did solve my problem and I won't ever be enough thankful to him. He tried one of my font and took the time to examine it with FontLab Studio. In case other persons experiment the same type of troubles, I am pasting the mail I got (along with the corrected font) for info :
    Hi Patrick,
I did find one issue in particular. OpenType fonts should have a UTM setting of 1000. These were at 2048. So I changed those and had FontLab Studio rebuild the names (I just let it do its thing).
The originals you had sent wouldn’t even appear in Office 2011. The rebuilt ones do, though for whatever reason, bold italic won’t show. However, you can click the italic and bold buttons and the correct font is used. Otherwise, the new fonts all work as expected in Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, TextEdit and others. I tested them in both Mavericks and Yosemite.
Can’t guarantee success, but give these a shot.
    Kurt
That guy is an angel. He spent a tremendous amount of time examining, testing on Mavericks and Yosemite and on several apps until resolving the problem. Too helpful, too nice and too competent. That's a treat.
