Foneras and BT Fons

Hello
I have been using a La Fonera+ with a different ISP and have now moved to BT and have a couple of questions.
Can I still use my Fonera+ to take advantage of the FON Free WiFi or will I have to change my router to a Homehub and use BT FON?
If I still allow access through my Fonera+ will any users eat away my BT usage allowance or will it be 'ignored' the same as the 'BT FON' access?
Thanks

If you have migrated to BT as a BB customer you have unlimited access to Fon.
You should register on the Fon landing page using your primary bt email address and password.  You also have access to BT Openzone.
I would advise in the light of the above that you delete your Fonera a/c unless you still wish to use it in conjunction with BT Fon / BT OZ.
You can only access Fon via your BT homehub.  You should have been issued with a BT home hub on becoming a customer.
The effortlessly simple way to do Fon / OZ is via your BT home hub.

  • BT Fon and BT openzone

I live in ontario tower and i was using btopen zone and bt fon thing( where you have to buy vouchers) for about 5 months and everything worked fine untill Monday. Now i can connect to any hotspots. It sais limited connectivity. Sometimes it sais "cant connect to the network". I tried every possible solution posted in previous topics...
    Help anyone?

It could well be that the FON hot spot you were using is no longer there, is relies on BT customers who have opted into FON having their homehub switched on, there could be a number of reasons.
    1) BT customer migrated to another ISP.
    2) BT Customer moved on.
    3) The FON part of the HH has gone faulty.

  • Apple TV and BT Fon (Fon account). How to make it works?

Question for UK users: I've bought Apple TV yesterday and I'm not getting to connect my Fon account (BT Fon) to use it. Although Apple TV says I'm connected, no password to the network is required. Final result: I'm not getting to use my connection through BT Fon. Any suggestions to sort it?

    Hi SolidSilver,
That's a different way of doing things.
He has led you through this
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/BT/Voyager205/iChat.htm
but has gone for DMZ rather than the 23 ports that need to be set up. (the pics only show port 5190 and you need more to AV chat)
If you do fancy the tinkering to get the 205 to be a Firewall as well you have to follow the page to set up port 5190 fo both TCP and UDP
Next you need to do the other 22 ports on UDP
They have to be entered one at a time in the 205 so it is time consuming.

    and the others in between

The above form your post and this will only work if your computer always gets the smae IP address from the 205 each time it is turned on.
If you have any connection problems check the System Preferences > Network for your current IP and see if that is where the 205 is send ing the data and amend as required.

  • HomeHub security concern - Fon and Openzone share ...

I have recently joined BT on Total Broadband Option 3 to find that my HomeHub has opened a BTFon and BTOpenzone connection. I'm quite content with this arrangement, but have found that they all share the same channel. Having done some research, the BTFon describes FON as secure because "BT FON members agree to securely share a portion of their Wi-Fi bandwidth through a separate channel on their wireless router".
I called BT about this but was told only how I could turn Fon and Openzone off - which I'd only want to do if they are compromising the security of my WPA encrypted connection by sharing the same channel. I don't know if I should be concerned by shared channel. Any advice would be welcomed.

    Hi Mr Jones.
First of all the youdo not share the same channel, they USE the same channel, much the same as I could be using the same channel as you.
Fon and OZ are a separate thing from your connection, except to say they do use some of your Bandwidth when actually being use by another party, but you should have priority.
As for security, I think its fair to say that it is secure as much as possible, I leave it running and so far no problems, now and again a couple of youngster sit on my garden wall and use it, but I do live in a quiet somewhat "respectable area", but had no problems with it.
Like most it can be cracked if someone is dedicated enough, but there must be easier picking out there, and WPA should protect you.

  • Iphone 3gs and openzone and bt fon

    a very good evening,
i have just got a iphone 3gs with orange, they seem to think that i cannot log onto BT fon,
only BY openzone, true or not please. hving spoken to the orange help desk today they are sure that
openzone is ok but fon is not ok i thought from the forums that i could do both, help please
    julian

Im not an i phone user [HTC Desire], so I am making some assumptions about i phone functionality here.
First, your 'into Fon' is pretty quick, but it takes 24hrs ish for your hub to be updated - with a fair wind that it, and we have had some issues with Fon and hubs on here these last few weeks
    Assuming you've joined Fon, and that your hub is Fon activated, having had a long  time with this issue I would say;
Firstly, do not muck about with the BT Fon app. just yet.  Simply see what wi fi connectivity is available from the device.  You should see your own BT hub serial key code and BTOpenzone [or Fon - but probably the former] as well.  Whether [at first] on your own hub or elsewhere, just hook your device up to Fon landing page, and sign in a BTBB customer [very important detail].  You sign in using your primary BT e mail username and password.
But there are dragons, some hubs are not giving out a Fon signature.  Sign in is case sensitive, watch out for any auto capitalization etc.
It should be simple.  Once you've got a Fon enabled hub and managed to sign in, then go to the BT Fon app., and once you installed in on your device ensure that you check the username and password that will come as soon as the download to your device is complete.  Dont assume that because it is complete on your device it will be complete on the Fon app. You dont need the Fon app. to sign in though, it has to be said.
If you are a BTBB customer you can log into BTOZ and Fon, with the proviso's I've put above, and as doubtless some of the other 'Fon victims' may also add to this thread on the forum  Orange have mis-informed you.
Come back if you need any more steer on this.
    Hope that helps

  • BT Fon and BT Openzone questions

    Hi,
I have recently opted in to BT Fon.  I don't have a Home Hub (need a more powerful router) so does this mean I will not be sharing my connection (or does BT change my router on the sly)?
Regarding Openzone, what username should I use (it isn't obvious), because my BT Infinity (opt 2) package apparently comes with Openzone access.
    Thanks in advance!

Yes - you won't be sharing
BT can do whatever they like to their supplied hubs only....
AFAIK it's still the primary email account holders name and password - as per using FON

  • BT Fon and BT Openzone FAQ's still incorrect

    Dear BT,
I refer to my post made on the 12/08/2010 - http://community.bt.com/t5/BB-Out-About/Why-does-the-BTHH-transmit-the-Openzone-signal/m-p/37318#M22...
"The BT Openzone website will now be updated (when - unknown) to include the BT Home hub as a BT Openzone location as this is not clearly shown on the BT Openzone website at present".
But the BTFon FAQ still states -
"What’s the difference between a BT Openzone hotspot and a BT FON hotspot?
There's no difference to you when using the hotspots.
However, they're located in different types of places. BT FON hotspots are the Wi-Fi signals from BT Home Hubs owned by other members of the BT FON community. This means that individual BT FON hotspots may not be available in the future, because a customer may opt out of the service, or temporarily switch off their Hub.
BT Openzone is a premium wireless service, with hotspots in airports, hotels, stations and businesses around the UK. BT Total Broadband customers who are members of BT FON can access BT Openzone hotspots as well as BT FON hotspots. You can see the exact locations of BT Openzone hotspots using the map at www.btopenzone.com. BT FON vouchers bought by non-members are only valid at BT FON hotspots, and can't be used on the BT Openzone network".
and this is on the BTOpenzone site -
    "What is BT Openzone?
BT Openzone is a wireless broadband (Wi-Fi) service that you can access in public places (hotspots) such as airports, hotels, coffee shops, motorway service stations and city centres. Get online at BT Openzone hotspots throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and at selected locations outside the UK".
Is it not time to correct this?

    Hi Alexander and welcome
So you opted out on the BTFon website and then opted back in?
And the hub doesn't show you as active?
Don't panic!! Opt out again and then back in, wait 72 hours and see if it then shows this time.
(sometimes the hub doesn't get sent the opt in signal on the first try)
As a side note: Even though your hub is not showing as active, it doesn't stop you from using other hotspots
    Thanks tried this.
Phoned and my router is getting updated this should fix it.

  • Logging onto Fon and/or broadband

Hi. I am new so please be gentle with me.
Sitting in my car with laptop and good WiFi set up, I find loads of good Openzone and Fon sites. I can log into the openzone sites but every time I try a Fon site it says your username or password is incorrect????????
I must be missing something as I was under the impression that the log-in details were the same.
Also if I try to log-in to 'MY BT' I also get the same message.
I have no trouble logging into BT Yarhoo with the same details.
    HELP please

have you set up a My BT account if you not you need to set one up and need not necessarily use the same email address and password.

  • Openzone and BT Fon

BT it seems is a terrific technical and innovation organisation but communication with BT is so complex. Kafkaesque is a good word for describing the bureaucracy. Or maybe I just can see the obvious.
In any case, I am keen to use BT broadband while at work where I can pick up an openzone signal. It is strightforward to connect and the connection works well. The point is that I cannot tell exactly what I am using; BT Fon, BT openzone or BT total broadband and what this means.
When I connect and start internet explorer a page come up asking me to log in with one of those three options. I tried to connect to BT Fon because I know that that is free of charge but without success. I have successfully connected with BT total broadband. Now does this mean that my online minutes are being used up? I imagine that had connected with openzone that would be the case. I don't mind! But, if so, I would like to know how many minutes I have used, I can't find this out.
I will be doing "online marking" in a few days and want to know if I need to pay for access but if there is no need and I have successfully connected with a free service that's even better.
Am I being stupid, I wanted to write and email to someone who knows about this but cannot find an address.
    Please advise me somebody.

Chomsky would have something to say about the communication as well
    For Option 3 customers:-
BT Fon is free-unlimited. You have to sign up to use it.
    BTOZ is 500 mins pcm.
If you are connecting to BTBB whilst at work (ie not your own hub) it sounds like you are connecting to an unlocked hub, or a freebie that someone has made available.
    Check you Fon status here:-
    http://www.btfon.com/
A Fon connection should show as available (without logging in).  BTOZ you have to log in on the landing page with your BT username and password.
    Hope that helps.

  • Tracing people logging on at BT FON and BT Openzon...

    Hello,
Please can you tell me if it is possible for BT to trace where someone is logging on using BT FON or BT Openzone.  My reason being I am being stalked and the emails come from IP addresses all over the place from btcentralplus.com.  I think I know who the stalker is and he has a BT phoneline and internet account so would have log in details.  If the police were to contact you could you tell them where he has logged on and whether this matches the IP addresses from the emails.
    Thanks

  • Calibrate Error and Cell Fone

    Nike+ Air-max 180's.
Been using this sensor for about 9 months. Tried calibrate at walk yesterday and today and get the error message that :
"distance traveled does not match the chosen distance"
Have tried turning sensor forwards and backwards and even put logo-side down. Distances tried are 400 meters and Customised at 4 tenths a mile, both at a walk. All failed.
Recently started to carry small belt with holder for bottle as wells as two web pockets either side. Added my Razr V3 as my road distances were above 13 miles and wanted potential rescue help from SWMBO.
Likewise began noticing irregular logged miles.
A few minutes ago I had the notion to remove my cell fone as I was also carrying it as I made the 5th (yes FIVE) calibrate attempt in an hour.
Calibrate walk at 400 meters; sensor logo side up and swoosh towards toe-box.
    Success.
Hey Nike, if this is terribly helpful then please send Nano for SWMBO.

Did you resolve your issue by doing something or was it just coincidence?

  • BT FON and BT Infinity

Have any of you got BT Infinity and have your HH as a FON hotspot?  I opted in a while ago and my modem still reports that it is 'Not active on your BT Home Hub'. I even phoned BT who said "don't worry you are opted-in, your modem will show active soon" ... well it hasn't.

    Hi Silverfrost,
Thanks for posting. It can take a while for the hub to update that you're on the Fon service. Try logging on here . If you can log on then you're connected and the hub will update.
    Cheers

  • Fon and openzone on same hub

im just wondering if i should be seeing both openzone and fon on my home hub wireless conections when i look for wireless conections , am i right in thinking it should just be 1 or the other ?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

OK.  Irrespective of which phone you have - 'old' or a T2/Hero - was there a point in the set up with BT software (of the 620/710) or the configuring of wireless connectivity with the T2/Hero where you could have selected Openzone/Fon as your primary Wi-Fi network, and not your home hub (I assume your hub wireless key is also displaying as being 'available.'
(There is a known issue with the 620/710 using the BT software about trying to connect to your hub following a BTOZ/Fon connection other than in the home, but stick with the above first).
If during setup, you selected Openzone as your primary connection and not your hub (or have changed the wireless key of your hub/or have a new hub subsequently), this could account for it.
Without star gazing too much, the other option at this stage is to simply reset your hub, and then see what happens.
There are other possibilities as well I'm afraid.  Its not a connectivity issue, more a functionality one I venture to think, interesting (but let me assure you, not without precedent).

  • BT Fon and usage allowance.

I've just recently signed up to BT Infinity option 2, I was previously on BT Total Broadband option 3. My BT Fon account still has me down as BTTB opt 3, does this matter?
Also, what are my inclusive BT Fon minutes, are they still unlimited on BTI opt 2 as they were on BTTB opt 3?
Does the BT Fon usage come off of my monthly BTI allowance, I'm allowed 100Gb per month, is that reduced by any BT Fon usage?
I'm confused and can't seem to find the answers anywhere.
    Thanks for any advice.
