Font appearance jumping between light and bold

When I first open thunderbird in the morning, fonts appear bold [as if all unread] then if i quit thunderbird and try again it open with font as light, with only unread email showing as bold.
OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
Thunderbird 31.6.0
UTC/S 5.0.0
This is now happening on another mac with Yosemite installed. It worked for a few days and now not working

The first respondent indicated that when the design is made into a PDF, then the fonts are embedded and visible across platforms. Are there any situations I should be aware of in which this isn't the case? If that statement is true or generally true, that is good news, and will make me feel a lot more OK about this process.
I Googled "fonts that cannot be embedded in pdf" and these are the top 3 results:

  • I use BT Yahoo! but when I try and navigate to email from the home page it keeps jumping between 'connected and waiting for login' and never loads up.

My internet service provider is BT in the UK. The home page is www.btinternet.com. After I've logged on, the home page displays fine - I can see the summary of my emails in one of the windows on the home page. The problem comes when I click on the mail application. The page then tries to load the email application. However, it never actually loads, it keeps jumping between connected and waiting for login. It never achieves it so I just have to click the 'back' button to get to the home page. I use chrome and ie but neither has this problem.

I retraced my steps to how i got the Google app:
App Store icon on Home Screen > Search, at bottom > entered Google
The first Google App on the screen appears:
Google logo small g in blue square: Google Search; Open (because it is already installed).  Below that is a picture of the iPod with the usual  Google Search screen.  I have never inserted a link into a discussion group so i hope you can open this.

  • Fonts get switched between FCPX and Compressor

I edit my video, make some simple intro and outro titles with specific fonts (Gill Sans, Adobe Garamond Pro) and although the fonts look fine in Final Cut Pro X when I send the video to Compressor 4 FCPX swaps out the fonts. It's driving me nuts.
I've run Font Book and verified the fonts and they pass. I've done the share to Compressor twice and both times it swapped out the fonts, each time for different fonts.
Anyone have this problem or have a solution?
The video I'm editing hasn't been brought in and optimized, it's H.264 video in place, no audio. Very frustrating.
Here's a link to the video, you can see three different types of fonts due to the fonts being lost between FCPX and C4. http://www.hawaii247.com/?p=56608

I spoke with Apple Tech support, the first line told me if I had Adobe CS 5 installed on my system it would break the fonts, and suggested I create a new user, install fcpx under that user, and do my editing from there.  I asked to have the case escalated.
The second line tech support indicated they have had no reports of this issue, however he was able to duplicate the problem 100% of the time using his "clean system" running Snow Leopard. He said he woulde further escalate the bug to the engineers.
As as work around he suggested I creat all titles in motion (alpha chanel only) and then bring into fcpx as a .mov file. Great, I only have a few hundred titles..
I suggest every user that is experiancing this either make a bug report via FCPX or call apple tech support and report it, otherwise it might be way down on the list of fixes.
So it is a bug, and has nothing to do with fonts, prefs, or Adobe products.

  • Font rendering differences between Xfce and KDE

    Hi,
I am using both KDE and Xfce (mostly Xfce with KDE apps) and I observed that there is a font rendering difference between Gtk (Xfce) and QT (KDE) apps.
In both desktop environments I use dejavu sans font, size 9 and I have set RGB subpixel rendering and hinting to full.
I created some screenshots of dolphin and thunar to illustrate the differences (right click and select view image to see the screenshots in full resolution)
Can somebody help me to make gtk app fonts to look the same as qt ones? Or at least tell me why there is this difference.
    Thank you.

I cant tell you why there is a difference, but this page may help you. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Font_Configuration
I ended up installing the Ubuntu patched packages in the AUR, but there are different options.

  • Finder Keyboard Shortcut to Jump between Sidebar and Items

Is there a keyboard shortcut to jump between the sidebar items? E.g. "Documents, Downloads, etc." and the Documents themselves e.g. "Document A".
I've been searching for one for sometime, and there didn't seem to be any immediate solution.
    Thank you!!

Hi, I wish there was but there isnt. The best thing you can do is press the F4 key and it opens the windows you have. so you could open up 2 different finder windows and just F4 back and forth

  • What type of Fonts are compatible between Mac and PC?

    Hello all:
I work in InDesign primarily from a Windows based PC. I occasionally do some work on a Mac as well. I have a mixture of font type I use (TTF, OpenType etc) on my PC. I know a lot of font types are not compatible between PC and Mac. My questions is, are OpenType fonts compatible with Mac?
What suggestions would you give to people working on two platforms as to how to best manage their font library (short of buying two versions of the same fonts)?
    Thanks.

OpenType and Windows TrueType fonts are usable on both Windows and MacOS X. Windows Type 1 fonts can be used with Adobe applications on both Windows and MacOX X (although on the Macintosh, the Windows Type 1 fonts must be put into the Creative Suite's private font directory).
Macintosh Type 1 and TrueType fonts cannot be used on Windows systems under any condition.
Going forward, for cross-platform compatibility, at Adobe we would strongly recommend exclusive use of OpenType fonts, thus avoiding the need for purchasing more than one version of any font.

  • Why would a font appear different between Ppt for mac and mail? specifically the lower case "v"... spelled in a sequence

I am using the Hipster Pro font... and when I use it in ppt for MAC, Evana-- the v in Evana has a swoop that extends outside and in mail it doesn't.
I'm not sure why this discrepancy exists as my logo doesn't have it and its causing me problems.
When I try and do a cut/paster for this box it changes it too.

Jeff is right about the two options for inserting a fonts character - but Most Importantly - he is also right in his statement (in agreement with mine) that if the audience machine does not have the font installed they will not see "Hipster Script Pro"
Here's what ya do - make it a "PICTURE" and insert it inline, just like we do here. If this Simple Editor can display it, you should be Golden.

  • Site Appearance Differences between IE and FF

    Hi Everyone,
    So here is my problem...
I've designed a website layout in Photoshop cs3. I cut it
into slices, and used Dreamweaver cs3 to turn those slices into a
nicely functioning website. My problem is visual consistency
between two pages. Despite both pages being exported from the same
or similar slice sets, when I navigate from one page to another in
Internet Explorer, the entire page appears to jump by about 10
    pixels on both sides.
I've checked, and both pages have a center justification.
Both pages have content of equal width, and when viewed in either
Dreamweaver or in Firefox, the page appears to be in a consistent
    position on the screen.
I've compared the code from both pages, and I can't find any
relevant or significant deviations in code between the two pages.
Anyone know how I can fix this error?

    Hello,
The answer is in the code.
Can you post a link to the pages?
    Thanks,
    Tim

  • Font size problems between Motion and FCP

I created a custom Final Cut Pro title in Motion. I set the font size to 110 pixels. My custom title works great, with one exception. The 110 pixel font in my custom title doesn't match the size of 110 pixel fonts in other titles. I double checked the font specs between the two titles, and they are identical. But, the font in my custom title is much bigger (view screen shot). How do I fix this?

    Hi Jim,
I found the problem. When I right click a text template in FCP and select "open in Motion", the template dimensions are 1920p X 1080p. My original custom templates were 1280p X 720p. So, I didn't realize I was toggling between different template sizes.
    Thanks for you input though.

  • Raster effects appearance differences between CS and CS3 at 72dpi

We have received a file from an outside vendor that, when viewed on a mac running Illustrator CS3 and one running CS, looks considerably different. Drop shadows becomes too dark and too  large when viewed in CS unless the document raster settings are set to  300dpi. BUT there is a white highlight that has a gaussian blur applied  and is set to "Overlay" in the transparency settings that appears  harsher and less graduated at 300dpi. Our concern is that we are sending  this file out for film in China and we have no way of knowing what the  final appearance will be.
The question is: Should we set the Document Raster Effects to 300 dpi and adjust the highlight so that it looks right...or should we leave it at 72 dpi and adjust the shadows.

  • Font Size Difference between Exe and Labview IDE

I'm stumped on the following issue and surprizinglycan't find any references that are similar on this forum.
I've developed an application which, when built to an Exe, has different font sizes than when executed on the same computer in the Labview Integrated Development Environment.  In each instance the screen resolution is the same.  I've used the "Application Font".  I'm having trouble figuring why the font would render differently in each case.  Of possible signifigance is that I'm running the Exe by simply browsing to the folder where the build procedure drops it instead of building an installation.
I've attached one of the most glaring examples that shows the rendering in each case.
I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction to resolve this issue.

    Hi Doctor,
    two notes:
for the font size differences: I would try to change the font settings
to a more 'specific' font like Arial 14pt. The application font is set
somewhere in an ini-file and the setting may change with the
    environment (IDE vs. exe-rt).
for your attachment: please convert pictures to jpg or png. This will
reduce size by orders of magnitude :-) And please crop them, unless you
have a very (VERY) beautiful desktop background picture!

  • Font size changes between Export and Import

    Captivate v5.5
My office in Germany is translating existing project from English to German.
They export a slide from v5.5 to be translated (in Word)...make the required translation and then import it back into Captivate v5.5
Problem is the original font size when exported is Tahoma Regular 11 but when the translated document is imported it arrives back in Captivate as Tahoma Regular 10.
The font size during and after the translation is Tahoma Regular 11. The change to size 10 is happening during the import into Captivate v5.5
Any ideas why and how to make sure the font keeps the same size (11 in this case) when imported ?

  • Why do fonts looks different between Photoshop and devexpress winform

    Hi,
I am creating a mock ups in PSD using font Verdana 10
when the developers using the same font on DevExpress win-forms the results looks extreme different.
can you help me understand why this is happening?
    Thanks a lot,
    Anat

The glyphs are described by mathematical functions, there is no ambiguity if it is the same font.
If the text is immediately embedded as a raster graphic (opposed to keeping text as vector in
an exported PDF), then it is impossible to represent the accurate shape by only few pixels
(10pt, 72ppi: very few pixels; 10pt, 288ppi; four times more in both directions).
Therefore Photoshop can apply anti-aliasing: None, Sharp, Crisp, Strong, Smooth. The names
don't say much, but the appearance is different. You may try which mode is your best choice.
    Best regards --Gernot Hoffmann

  • Fonts change between preview and full view.

Hello.  I'm running into an issue where a font appears differently between iBooks Author and my iPad.  I'm using Impact 96pt, and it shows up properly on my iMac and in the mini-preview screens on my iPad, but when I open the page to full view on my iPad, it switches to Arial 96pt.  The only other place this font appears in the iBook is in the TOC when in portrait view.  Everything else is formatted to styles I custom created.  Any ideas on how to fix this style/formatting bug?  And/or any ideas on how to change the font style of the portrait TOC?

K T, thanks for taking a look. That's the weird thing.  Impact does show up on my font list, iBA lets me use it in creating styles, and Impact font text appears properly on the iBook's cover.  For now I'll just drop in this text as an image, but any ideas on how to keep it as a proper font would be greatly appreciated.

  • CMYK Jpegs appear lighter and desaturated

    Hey everyone,
I'm having an annoying issue with my CMYK images. I work for a marketing co. that's primarily print, and after uploading my images to our online storage interface (we use Egnyte), the jpegs appear "milky" or lighter and desaturated than what they do on my screen and in Photoshop. I've tested tiff, jpeg and pdf and they all look fine on my screen, but the jpeg and tiff appear "milky" only on my collegue's screen, but the pdf is fine. She is on a Mac, I'm on PC, and no matter how I open the images, whether I redownload them from the web, or open them straight from my hd, they appear just fine.
Thanks for any and all help
    Andy

How are you viewing those JPEGS?
Most web browsers do not know how to display CMYK JPEGs, much less how to use the profiles from those images.
Acrobat does know how to display CMYK, and use color profiles.
