Font appears different in Muse (without smooth anti aliasing)

I am using Google Font Roboto and noticed that it appears thicker when i type it in Muse than in Photoshop. When i have anti-aliasing on 'Strong' in photoshop it mirrors what is showing in Muse, but i prefer the default Smooth anti-aliasing. Is there a way to turn this on in Muse?

Adobe Muse CC 2014 (font strong, bolder)
https://db.tt/JMZhwPtT
Photoshop CC 2014 (Correct version)
https://db.tt/QLQtxYZL
Whats interesting is the output in a web browser varies from browser to browser and computer to computer. I've tried it on many computers and browsers. It shows correctly on all macs in Safari but mostly incorrectly in Firefox and Chrome. However, i tried on a 2008 Lion Mac which works correctly in all browsers. On Windows computers it shows correctly nearly every time.

  • Is it possible to turn off text smoothing (Anti-Aliasing)?

    Hi,
    this Anti-Aliasing or I think it is called text smoothing in English is really ugly and is driving me nuts. I cant turn it off. Even with TinkerTool up to size 144 it just doesnt help. Especially Safari loks horrible. Can it be turned off? Does anyone know if Leopard will be able to turn it off?

    Have you set font smoothing in Appearances (System preferences) to match your monitor?

  • Same font appears different in two systems

    The problem principally lies with transaction MM03 (Material Master - Display). The material description in "Additional Data" tab in any Material View is appearing to be of different fonts in two different client systems.
    Upon checking, I found that both systems use the same font (Arial Monospace for SAP) with fotn size of 9.
    Hence, I am not able to understand the difference in appearance of the two.
    I have tried comapring I18N settings of both the systems. Please suggest a way to get rid of this problem.

  • Why would a font appear different between Ppt for mac and mail? specifically the lower case "v"... spelled in a sequence

    I am using the Hipster Pro font... and when I use it in ppt for MAC, Evana-- the v in Evana has a swoop that extends outside and in mail it doesn't.
    I'm not sure why this discrepancy exists as my logo doesn't have it and its causing me problems.
    When I try and do a cut/paster for this box it changes it too.

    Jeff is right about the two options for inserting a fonts character - but Most Importantly - he is also right in his statement (in agreement with mine) that if the audience machine does not have the font installed they will not see "Hipster Script Pro"
    Here's what ya do - make it a "PICTURE" and insert it inline, just like we do here. If this Simple Editor can display it, you should be Golden.

  • Flex without anti-aliased font in IDE

    Hi
    In Flex 3 running on Mac OSX 10.5.4 is it possible to make
    the font in the IDE more bitmap looking (ie without text
    smoothing/anti-aliasing)? Staring at small anti-aliased fonts all
    day seems to be harder on my eyes!
    Thanks in advance
    H

    i already do have anti-aliasing turned on. black text on a white background is anti-aliased as expected. i'm trying to use white on black and the difference, while subtle, is there. since i sit in front of a terminal and program all day, i want a font and display combination that is easier on my eyes than what i'm seeing now. i'll go back to black text on light background for now, but in the long run i prefer the opposite style.

    There are fonts in the menus - helvetica without smoothing. Kinda like Windows 3. I installed this package: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=40619 to get helvetica but it's not in this package. At least the helvetica like on screenshots. How do I install this font in Arch?

  • My fonts are different from DW to Photoshop

    Hi all,
    I have designed a layout in photoshop, using sample text of Arial 10pt with no layer effects.
    However, when I import my layout into CSS, and then add real text inside the DIVS, the Arial 10pt font appears different.
    As shown above, the text becomes significantly larger in DW (top) than it appears in Photoshop (bottom) and also becomes smoother and less pixelated looking.
    So, how do I overcome this text difference? Is it possible for me to get my text in Dreamweaver to look EXACTLY like it does in Photoshop?
    Thanks if anyone can help,
    Korey

    Point size is nearly meaningless on screen. It depends on too many factors. It's main use is for print.
    Use pixel size. You can set Photoshop to use pixels for text in your preferences, or if you do print work, you can change it on a case by case basis.

  • Font appears as bold when published

    hi all!
    This font issue is driving me crazy..I have set the font to helvetica light on my site but when i publish the site on mobileme some sections appears as bold randomly. i have tried highlighting text and changing font type to helvetica light again but even though it appears as light in iweb when published it is still bold.
    Is there an easy solution to this please?

    I'm having the same issue as shannondasilva. Looks great offline in iweb but as soon as I publish my site the font appears bolder and thicker than it should. Very annoying and not consistent enough for Apple. Anyone worked out a way of making the font appear as it should without having to convert the text to an image, etc. I want my text to be found by google so it needs to remain as text. And yes I'm using standard Helvetica and Arial websafe fonts. Please can someone help here???

  • No anti-aliasing?

    I have read that the Text Engine introduced with Flash Player 10 is supposed to provide anti-aliasing for devide fonts (i.e. non-embedded fonts).  This is essential for Web applications: without anti-aliasing text looks awful and Flex applications cannot compete with HTML applications.  But fonts that include East-Asian characters cannot be embedded because they take up too much space.  And I don't see how a Web application in 2009 can fail to support East-Asian characters.
    Today I tried Flash Builder 4, and created 3 Spark components, of types RichEditableText, RichText, and SimpleText, without embedding any fonts.  All three could be rotated, which I believe means they use the new Text Engine.  But none of them had anti-aliasing (which I checked by looking at how they rendered capital letter W).  Why is this?  Do I have to do something special to get anti-aliasing?  Or is anti-aliaing a feature that will be coming later?
    Thanks in advance,
    Francisco

    Hi Corey,
    Thanks for your message.  I've looked more carefully at the device font I'm using on the Mac (with an LCD display).  You are right, it's anti-aliased.  (I can't see any subpixel colorations with my magnifying glass as I can see them on Windows, but maybe they are just less obvious.)
    So the reason the device font looks ugly on the Mac must just be the letter spacing.  Since you said it looks good to you, I checked the code and did some experimentation.  It turns out that I'm saying fontFamily="_sans" and, surprisingly, in Flex 3, this it not the same as not assigning a value to fontFamily.  (Out of curiosity I checked Flex 4, and it is the same there.)  Saying fontFamily="_sans" causes the letter spacing to be way off.  If I don't say anything the spacing it still a bit off, but not too much, and the font does not look bad, although it still does not look as good as an embedded font.
    I tried taking screen shots, but they come out a little blurry and it's hard to judge fonts on them.  But I'm attaching a simple mxml file that compares the embedded font, the device font with no assignment to fontFamily, and the device font with fontFamily="_sans".
    If you want to see the huge difference that fonts make on the application, the best thing is to look at the application itself, so I should say what it is.  It's Noflail Search, a search engine that you can find at noflail.com.  It starts out using an embedded font, but if it encounters an East-Asian character, or you specifiy an East-Asian language restriction, or you turn on an IME for an East-Asian language, it switches to fontFamily="_sans" (and lets you know that it does).  To go back to the embedded font you can remove what caused the switch and reload the page.  So it's easy to compare the effect of the two fonts.
    The switching to the device font was my clumsy attempt at coping with the East-Asian character problem.  Unfortunately the switching happens fairly often, because East-Asian characters pop-up in results when you least expect it, even if the query has nothing to do with East-Asia.  So I will remove the "feature" soon, and just use device fonts and hope that most Windows users have ClearType enabled.  But I'll leave it on all day Monday in case you want to check out the effect of the fonts on the application.
    When I said that Adobe should not rely on embedded fonts I was referring to the fact that the nice anti-aliasing and text rendering that you have in Flex 3, and the presumably nicer one in Flex 4, is only available for embedded fonts.
    Btw I've been comparing the subpixel anti-aliasing that I get with ClearType and a device font on Windows to the embedded font, and the embedded font looks definitely better.  The device font with ClearType looks purplish, and the anti-aliasing does not seem as good.  So let me emphasize that I'm not arguing that Adobe should use subpixel anti-aliasing.  I'm arguing that the grey-scale anti-aliasing and text rendering that you use for embedded fonts should be used for device fonts as well.  Is there any technical reason that makes this difficult?  Impossible?
    Thanks for listening

  • What is correct anti-aliasing setting for text for web use?

    The text in question will not be html, just text, mainly Times Roman and black. The graphics I produce should look clear online and I don't know which is best - sharp/crisp/strong - can I get some clarification on this?

    I don't think any of the answers provided thus far are the ones you are looking for.
    There are many places to change anti-alias options in Illustrator and they all pertain to different objects or different times at which the anti-aliasing happens, at least to my understanding anyway...
    The anti-alias options you are referring to specifically define how the respective text is rendered within your document once it is rasterized. As you mentioned, the choices are None, Crisp, Sharp and Strong. Don't quote me on this specifically, but additional anti-alias options you set afterwards (i.e. when you're saving for web) will further modify the image as a whole (or within the scope of whatever you are editing) while the text is rendered first.
    Now, to your question, which one is best?
    I honestly don't know for sure, however, I don't think there is a 'best' option in a general sense. Usually Crisp works best for me, but it will depend on whether you are designing for the web or for print, then on other variables beyond that i.e. headlines versus paragraph text. I change mine for different things rarely-usually when I'm dealing with anything containing really small text or extreme variations of text sizes, or anything similar.
    One way to help you know which one will look best for your output, try changing your preview mode to 'Pixel' and your zoom level to '100%', then switch between the choices and see how it affects the letters on-screen.
    If that doesn't quite tickle your fancy, save an instance of each as its own image. Make sure to name them accordingly though-it's very easy to forget which is which if you don't. (i.e. "image-crisp.png", "image-sharp.png" and "image-strong.png")
    Then, simply compare them within the Windows folder you saved them to-I usually use the default image preview and cycle back and forth with my arrow keys.
    * Also, I recommend you use 'Save for Web' and the PNG-24 preset and keep the size close to, or the same as, your intended output.
    I really hope that all makes sense.
    Good luck!

  • One of two synced fonts doesn't appear in Adobe Muse, but in Photoshop CC it does.

    One of two synced fonts doesn't appear in Adobe Muse, but in Photoshop CC it does. What can I do?
    I synced "Mostra Nova" and "Proxima Nova" with typekit. But only Mostra Nova appears in Adobe Muse. Proxima Nova doesn't. In Photoshop CC both appear. Can I fix this? Or is it a bug, that will be fixed?

    Thanks for the screenshots, Martin!
    Do you happen to use Suitcase Fusion to manage the installed fonts on your computer?  We have recently identified a bug in the program which inteferes with fonts synced from Typekit. More information and a workaround is available here:
    http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/1323222
    If not, would you please send your recent sync logs to [email protected], so we can look into this further?
    On OS X:
    * Open the Finder
    * under the Go menu, select "Go To Folder"
    * in the windows that opens, type:  /Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/
    Note that you need to replace "(username)" with your own account name; for instance, on my computer I am "galle".
    (Or if you are comfortable working from the Terminal, cd to $HOME/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CoreSync/)
    On Windows:
    C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CoreSync\
    Attach the recent CoreSync-yyyy-MM-dd.log files to an email. Please don't send a zip file, as they often get flagged as spam.

    Firefox 6 using incorrect fonts.

    When I delete the font that keeps showing up as the default, a new illegible font appears. The fonts are not 'garbled' they are just decorative typefaces that are being grabbed from my computer. I have never had an issue with my fonts on old Firefox versions or other browsers like chrome, safari, etc., so I don't think the issue is my fonts. I also don't want to have to delete all the fonts off of my computer. I uploaded another photo of when I deleted the font that was appearing before. • Anti-aliasing of device fonts in TextField is different in Flash 8 and Flash 10

    We have noticed that when we display a TextField with a device font (Verdana), that the antialiasing is different (and subjectively worse) when
    the app is compiled as a swf10 app than when it is compiled as a swf8 app.
    Below is the TextField when compiled and run as a SWF 10 file,  displayed in the 10.1 player. The font size was set to 12 point, magnified, to show that it uses grayscale antialiasing
    An below is the same code but compiled to a swf8 file (and run in the 10.1 player as well)
    You can see that when the file is compiled as SWF8, the device font is rendered with color pixels, I guess as an LCD font.
    Can anyone tell me why this is not being done for TextField when the app is compiled/run as SWF10 ??
    The code to instantiate the text field looks like
            var tf:TextField = new TextField();
                tf1.antiAliasType = AntiAliasType.ADVANCED;
                tf1.autoSize = TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
                tf1.sharpness = 0;
                tf1.x = 100;
                tf1.y = 50;
                tf1.width=400;
                tf1.height=50;
                var fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
                fmt.kerning = true;
                fmt.size = 12;
                fmt.font = 'Verdana';
                tf1.embedFonts = false;
                tf1.styleSheet = null;
                tf1.defaultTextFormat = fmt;
                var str = "Verdana";
                tf1.htmlText = str;

    Actually our users are complaining that the Flash 10 grayscale antialiasing on device fonts does not look as good
    as the Flash 8 style antialiasing.Virtually everyone uses LCD monitors now, and it seems like the Flash 8 color
    dithering produce better results on these displays.
    It is demonstrated that the Flash 10 player will render device fonts with
    different algorithms when it is using AVM1 or AVM2, so what I would like to know is if there is any way to have programmatic control over this
    choice in my Flash 10 application, so I can get the Flash 8 style antialiasing, or control other parameters on a device font,  like sharpness, etc.

  • Why do fonts looks different between Photoshop and devexpress winform

    Hi,
    I am creating a mock ups in PSD using font Verdana 10
    when the developers using the same font on DevExpress win-forms the results looks extreme different.
    can you help me understand why this is happening?
    Thanks a lot,
    Anat

    The glyphs are described by mathematical functions, there is no ambiguity if it is the same font.
    If the text is immediately embedded as a raster graphic (opposed to keeping text as vector in
    an exported PDF), then it is impossible to represent the accurate shape by only few pixels
    (10pt, 72ppi: very few pixels; 10pt, 288ppi; four times more in both directions).
    Therefore Photoshop can apply anti-aliasing: None, Sharp, Crisp, Strong, Smooth. The names
    don't say much, but the appearance is different. You may try which mode is your best choice.
