Font Blurry on HiDPI (Windows 8-8.1)

Hi,
Adobe Reader does not have a clear font on Windows 8.1 (Hi-Res displays). I do not know if the icons are affected.
Is it possible to update? To read PDF, I have to go to Adobe Reader (Modern UI).

Best,

Hi Jeezy45,
With the next update for Acrobat and Reader XI coming in September, the application will be hi-dpi aware and the content will no longer be up-scaled.

PS CS6 has a different set of installed fonts than my old PS CS4.  How do I get my old fonts back?  Don't like most of the newer CS6 fonts.  Dell Precision, Windows 7.  Does PS use the fonts in the Windows directory or does it use its own?  If so, where are they in the directory?  A lot of my preferred fonts show in the Windows directory but not in Photoshop, which does not display them within the program.  Please help.  If I get free fonts (NOT CC fonts) from elsewhere, where do I put them for Photoshop[ CS6 to use them?  Thanks.

All versions of Photoshop get their fonts from your OS.  Just install any missing font wherever Windows keeps fonts.
    I don't do windows myself.

  • How to change fonts in the Finder window

How does one change change fonts in the Finder Window?
I've done it before and I know it's different in the Side Bar and for the fonts in Column View or List View.
It doesn't seem to be in Finder Preferences.
I can't find in in System Preferences.
    It's not in Font Book.
    Where is it???
    TIA

If you click the Action Gear you have the option to change font sizes. I am not sure if changing the font per se is possible without a system hack which I do not recommend.

  • Smartforms-Dynamic Change of Font Size in main window

    Hi Friends,
How shall I be able to change dynamically the font size in main window of smartform. If the records are more in main window then the layout comes in 2 pages but if less in 1 page. So I want to decrease the font if the records are more to assign it in 1 page.
Eg : I can print only 10 lines in 1 page of main window, but if the records exceed 10 lines it is going to next page, so I want to shrink the font size to maintain the layout in 1 page.
    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi,
SmartForms does not offer the option to set some characteristics at runtime. You must work with conditions in your form.
First find out how many records you have in your table
    DESCRIBE TABLE mytable RECORDS sy-tfill.
You create 2 texts nodes with the text to be output and assign the font and font size to them. Obviouly, one node will have a big font size and the other one a normal font size but both contain the same information and same variables.
You can now work with an alternative. If the condition (there are many records for a secondpage) is true, assign text node with normal font size to option TRUE and the other text node to FALSE.
Optionally, every text node has folder CONDITIONS, where you can say
SY-TFILL >   10 lines  <-- for text node with normal font size
SY-TFILL <= 10 lines  <-- for text node with big font size

  • How to change the font in query builder window in Reports 6i?

    Hi
I am facing the old problem again and again, which is I can not find any way to change the font in query builder window in Reports 6i. The current font is so bad for alignment and ordering each part of SELECT statement. Is there any way to change this to COURIER NEW for example?

No, but I suggest using a different editor which does allow a different text option and just pasting it in.

  • Fonts Not Compatible with Windows 8

We've had some problems with fonts not working in Windows 8. Are all OTF available via Adobe Type campatible? The files we're having problems with have the extension of .PFB. They are visble via c:Windows/Fonts but do not work in our applications.

Windows 8 (as well as Windows Vista and Windows 7) should be fully compatible with all Adobe OTF (OpenType) fonts as well as Type 1 fonts.
Note that Type 1 fonts require two files per font, the .PFB file with the fonts' outlines and the .PFM file with the fonts' metrics. Such fonts are installed by right-clicking the .PFM file and selecting Install. Note that the .PFB file must be in the same directory as the .PFM file for the installation to work.
Assuming that you have the fonts already installed, they should work with all classic Windows applications. However the Type 1 fonts are not recognized by Windows WPF applications as well as those explicility written for Windows 8's  new so-called modern application interface. Applications such as Visio have not supported Type 1 fonts in years. We also know that a bug in Windows causes Internet Explorer 9 and Internet Explorer 10 to hang if they call for a font that has the same name as a Type 1 font you have installed.
Perhaps you provide more information about what fonts you have installed with what applications that don't work or are not recognized?

  • Font Dialog in MS Windows

    Hi,
What is the equal (in Java) font Dialog in MS Windows? Is Font Dialog same as Courier New Bold or Arial Bold or another one?
For example, when there are buttons, ones is JButton, and other one is simple/classic Windows Button. These buttons have same caption but when I get string width from buttons, the values are not equal.
    Thank You

You can get the font name by calling getFont().getFontName() or getFont().getName() from the buttons.
There are a few default fonts that are mapped to some other fonts
    sansserif
    serif
    dialog
    monospaced
These mappings can be found in a file called font.properties in your jdk installation. It is in the lib folder.

  • Making the font in the output window bigger

You know when you run a console application and you're looking at the output in the output window at the bottom, the typeface is a little small. Is there a way to change that to a bigger font?

I don't think there is a way to make just the font in the log window bigger - but you can increase the size of the font used in JDeveloper by editing the ide.properties file.

Hi, I have a problem with fonts because in the window I can't see the font, they are transparent. how can I fix this?

    giadad,
    It sounds as this issue:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
It was first presented in this post #15 by TheUlser:

  • Does Lightroom work well with hiDPI Windows 8.1 touchscreen ultrabooks?

    Hi all,
My old laptop is on the fritz, shopping for a new one.
Apart from the Web, the application I use the most is Lightroom.
I've been interested in the nice new ultrabooks, but I'm wondering: does Lightroom work well with hiDPI Windows 8.1 touchscreen ultrabooks?
Is hiDPI advantageous, or actually annoying?
What can you actually use touch for in Lightroom, and does it improve your workflow?
    Thanks kindly!

I am not 100% sure whether lightroom supports HiDPI on windows but on Mac OS X it is absolutely fantastic (I use a retina MBP). So I would see if you can try it out somewhere. My guess is that Lightroom supports it on Windows too and then I can highly recommend it.
No clue if touch works well or not for Lightroom. My guess is not as almost always using touch in applications that were not designed for it is very kludgey.

  • Blurry fonts on the screen - Windows 8.1- Framemaker 12

I installed a group of adobe fonts bought in 2002 in Windows 8.1 by clicking every .PFM file and clicking on the install button. Everything seems fine. According to the Microsoft support knowledge base, the .PFM file should be in the windows-->fonts directory. And they are at the right place. Each font comes with two files with different  file extension : a .PFM and a .PFB file extension but I cannot see the .PFB files. Is it normal ?
The question : why my fonts look so blurry on the screen, I simply cannot work.
    Thank you.

As long as both the PFM and PFB files are in the same folder, they should be properly installed when you right-click on the PFM file and select the Install option. The PFM file contains the metrics for the font, while the PFB file contains the glyph outlines in a binary format.
Type 1 fonts are supported through the Windows GDI (graphics device interface). There where issues with GDI+ and the newer WPF ( Windows Presentation Foundation) used in newer applications doesn't support Type 1 fonts.
For your specific Type 1 fonts, you should switch to the TTF equivalents supplied with Windows 8.1, e.g. TimesNewRoman, Arial, Courrier New. These contain unicode encodings and have substantially more glyphs available than in the old Type 1s (which were code-page specific and restricted to 255 glyphs), i.e. time to retire the old ones.
Also, if you try an online search, you'll find that there are quite a number of issues with Win8 and fuzzy, blurry font rendering, e.g.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-performance/poor-font-rendering -in-windows-8-blurry-text/f52a2002-d748-485c-8b9c-4862806ea94a

  • How to change fonts in iTunes for Windows?

Typeface in bold type is difficult to read and I want to change it. I looked everywhere online and could not find a simple solution, but then found one myself which seems to work. I have iTunes 10 and Windows Vista.
For some reason there's a conflict or problem with the Helvetica fonts.
Go to the folder C:windows/fonts. Wait for full font list to load, then sort in alphabetical order. Minimise that window, then open another Windows folder and navigate to a folder where you know you won't accidentally delete a folder. (I have a folder named "Keep" that I never move or delete to store important stuff). Create a new folder in that folder (organise>new folder) and name it Helvetica fonts.
Restore the Fonts window you minimised, then locate all Helvetica fonts you have (they should all be together if you sorted alphabetically). Select all Helvetica fonts and click and drag across to the Helvetica fonts file. You may be asked to confirm permission to do this. Confirm that all Helvetica fonts are in the new folder then close that window.
Return to the Fonts window and delete the selected Helvetica fonts. You will be asked for permission and get several pop up windows checking you really want to do this. **For some reason I was not able to delete Helvetica bold but the fix still worked.
When all Helvetica fonts are deleted (except for ** above if you had that problem too), then go to File>Install New Font at the top of the Fonts folder window. Navigate using the drop down box to find the folder where you saved the Helvetica fonts. The Helvetica fonts should all list in the right hand pane of the dialog box. IMPORTANT: at the bottom of the dialog box is a check box "Copy Fonts to Fonts Folder" - make sure this is NOT checked. You do not want the fonts reinstalled in the Fonts folder. Click Select All, the Install. All fonts should install, but their actual files remain in the new folder you created. As long as you don't delete this new folder the Helvetica fonts will be available to all programs which need them - but for some reason iTunes will now select a different font to display in iTunes.
And if it doesn't work the way you want, simply re-open Windows/Fonts, then repeat the installation instructions above but this time make sure the check box "copy fonts to font folder" IS checked and all will be restored.
    Did this help anyone?

  • Fonts being deleted in windows 8.1! Is an update the cause?

    Hi,
After a reboot nearly all fonts are missing in the fonts folder. It has much influence to the running programs, they sometimes don't work at all!
When I reinstall the fonts, they seem to still be there, but the same time they are missing. And after that reinstall they are back. But after reboot they are gone again.
I read on the internet that an update of Windows could be the cause.
Does anyone know what's going on?
    Regards,
    Maarten

    Hi MaartenvL,
Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.
It seems that you have no development problem, right? This forum specify for discussing and ask questions about the Visual C++ IDE, libraries, samples, tools, setup, and Windows programming using MFC and ATL. So It may be a good choice to ask the
issue about windows update on the answer.microsoft.com.

  • Font preview -- Photoshop CC -- Windows 7

EDIT: I did select "Large" from the TYPE menu (thought it was in Preferences), but this or "None" or the options did not change things.
    Windows 7
On my Laptop, I can scroll through my font menu and see the text change.
Not so on my Desktop. There, I can click in the font name box and use the up and down arrows to do this.
Trying to find why the difference, I found this online:
    FROM:  https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/fonts.html#previewing_fonts
    Photoshop Help / Fonts
Updated for Photoshop CC Version 2014
    Previewing fonts
You can view samples of a font in the font family and font style menus in the Character panel and other areas in the application from where you can choose fonts.
To turn off the preview feature or change the point size of font names, do one of the following:
(CC, CS6) Choose Type > Font Preview Size, and choose an option.
The problem:  on my Desktop version of Photoshop CC, there is no Preference option as stated above.
I prefer seeing the menu scroll and to point and click, rather than having to use the up and down arrows to move through the font list sequentially.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you.
Message was edited by: Robert Mcclintock

    Ah! Good question.
I had assumed I had the same version on each computer because I always keep both up-to-date.
Also, with the new CC, I no longer knew where to find the version number. Now I know :-)
    Here's what I have:
    DESKTOP:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 14.2.1 (14.2.1 20140207.r.570 2014/02/07:23:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    LAPTOP:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 2014.1.0 20140730.r.148 2014/07/30:23:59:59  x64
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
I am going to guess that is what makes the difference.
Even if so, I prefer being able to see the font menu list, rather than using the up/down arrows.
    Looking forward to your feedback/response.
    Thanks!

  • Persian font in MAC and WINDOWS.

    Hi
I am using persian font (X-series) on my mac and I haven't any problem with these fonts.
*:X series font are for pupular persian font like the B series.
When i want to save my power point with a type that windows can read/write it the X-series persian font are missing and all of my ducument has a bad clutter!!
I know that i can save my document as .PDF files but when I should do some changes on wndows office I need have good and famous persian fonts that are common between win and mac.
    thanks for your helps..........

If you want to open the Powerpoint file in Windows, you should also install those fonts at Windows machine too.
They won't show as nice as the Mac due to lack of text anti-aliasing on Windows, but they will work on Windows too.
