Font changes between 4.5 & 2008

Hi.
I just upgraded to 2008.  When I load my file the fonts appear different. When I dig into the details, the text in both versions is set to Verdana 10.  In 4.5 the text is easily visible on the screen. In 2008 I can barely see it.  What's going on?
Additionally, if I change the font in 2008 to 11 then run the preview, I see no discernible change in the font size.
It also appears that the spacing between lines has increased in 2008 so some fields look like they are now double spaced compared to what I saw in 4.5.  But curiously enough, it's not all fields that are affected by this.
Will I have to redesign every model that I've built in 4.5 to get it to look appropriate in 2008?  Please tell me there's an easier way to do this.
Thanks,
Janice

When I dig into the details, the text in both versions is set to Verdana 10. In 4.5 the text is easily visible on the screen. In 2008 I can barely see it.
I have both programs, also.  On my machine, the text is approximately the same size in both.  The 4.5 text seems to be thicker/bolded by default (bold in 4.5 is even more thick).  2008 seems to be using system fonts, whereas 4.5 seems to be using custom fonts.
<br>Additionally, if I change the font in 2008 to 11 then run the preview, I see no discernible change in the font size.
I tried that and saw a definite discernible difference.  I could visually see the font increasing in pixel height.  In preview, side by side, the 10 font was noticeably smaller than the 11.  Fonts sometimes appear differently on different machines/screens, though.
<br>It also appears that the spacing between lines has increased in 2008 so some fields look like they are now double spaced compared to what I saw in 4.5. But curiously enough, it's not all fields that are affected by this.
I'm guessing you're using text components, like Labels?  If so, this is a known bug.  If you enter preview/swf runtime, you'll see that the double spacing disappears.  The double spaces are only applied on the design canvas.

  • Fonts change between preview and full view.

Hello.  I'm running into an issue where a font appears differently between iBooks Author and my iPad.  I'm using Impact 96pt, and it shows up properly on my iMac and in the mini-preview screens on my iPad, but when I open the page to full view on my iPad, it switches to Arial 96pt.  The only other place this font appears in the iBook is in the TOC when in portrait view.  Everything else is formatted to styles I custom created.  Any ideas on how to fix this style/formatting bug?  And/or any ideas on how to change the font style of the portrait TOC?

K T, thanks for taking a look. That's the weird thing.  Impact does show up on my font list, iBA lets me use it in creating styles, and Impact font text appears properly on the iBook's cover.  For now I'll just drop in this text as an image, but any ideas on how to keep it as a proper font would be greatly appreciated.

  • Text font changes between iphone and Outlook?

Make a simple correction/addition in the text field of a Contact or Appointment on the iPhone. For example, add the word TEXT at the of the text body page. The change displays on the iPhone in the same font, point, color and spacing as that of the existing text below the newly added test word.
However, once synced through the Exchange mail server (and on the server the TEXT sample remains the same as that of the other text) and back to the desktop MS Outlook, the font, point, color changes. What was Calibri Body, pt 11, color black on the phone, is now an off blue, Calibri 13 header on the desktop Outlook form.
What is controlling this change? Naturally, I want the font/point/color to remain the same?
Btw, on the Contact text and Appointment text that I made the 1 change, In outlook—in addition to that specific word—2 or 3 of the existing lines that I did not touch on the iPhone were also changed to blue, Calibri 13 header?

    Resolved.

  • Fonts Changing between DW, Safari & FireFox???

So I am experimenting with my new web layout and I have it looking pretty much exactly how I want it in DreamWeaver CS4, but when I preview the page in Safari or FireFox each one changes the font into something different. The font should be Alternate Gothic LT No3 which is what I am using in DW and how it looks in DW and how I built the title block in PS. It reverts to arial in Safari and some sort of Time Roman in FireFox. I have looked through each line of html and cannot figure this one out. Why is this happening?
Here is one of the pages I am having trouble with.

    Why is this happening?
Because whatever font you specify in your web page must be installed on your visitor's computer. If not, and you don't specify an alternative font, the browser reverts to its pre-programmed default font which varies browser by browser.
Alternate Gothic LT No3 is unlikely to be an available font on many computers so those without it won't see it.
    What to do?
    1) Put your font into an image and insert the image on the page - bad idea for many reasons including download times and search engine visibility.
    2) Try a font substitution method: http://thinkclay.com/technology/cufon-sifr-flir
    3) Specify alternative fonts for those who don't have your Alternate Gothic LT No3
    .style1 {font-family: "Alternate Gothic LT No3", Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; }
PS There is no text on http://www.kellendengler.com/10-30-09.html, only images, so the problem is not showing up there.

  • Report font changes between test and production

using developer 6i server on solaris 64 bit environment.
we have vnc configured on both machines. when we migrate a report from
the test machine to the production environment, the font specifications
are different in the html output. what should we look at to determine the cause?
the printers are set up the same on each machine, VNC is the same. anything else?
    thanks
    Jim

NLS_LANG setting is the same. uifont.ali files are the same.
the difference is primarily that some fonts are bold and a larger scale in production environment versus the test environment. we did a basic 9iAS install on each machine, so I don't think anything is different.
are there any environment variables that I should check for the user account that runs the forms and reports servers?

  • Font changes when pasting between InDesign documents

I'm copying and pasting the content of one InDesign CS5 document into another and am finding that the font of my general body text is changing from Times to Minion Pro.
This occurs with all the following methods:
Copy and Paste multiple text frames
Copy and Paste single text frames
Copy and Paste content of a text frame into a new text frame
Drag and Dropping multiple text frames
I can't see any option in Preferences or Character pallette along the lines of 'Paste Remembers Fonts' (in the same vein as 'Paste Remembers Layers'.
I've change the default font in my existing documents to Times and also changed it with no documents open so all new documents have Times as the default.
I've also changed the Basic Paragraph style font to Times.
The correct paragraph styles already exist in both documents and remain in place when I copy and paste. Fonts for all other paragraph styles (eg headings etc) come across correctly, it's only my main body text that changes, with the font of the style showing as overidden.
Of course, I can simply select all the pasted text and clear the overides but I'd rather solve the problem properly.
One glimmer of hope: If I start another new document since changing the default font for new docs, the copy and paste retains my Times font.
Any thoughts? Can I fix my existing document's bad habit or will I need to start again?

When I paste the text frames, the paragraph styles remain intact but the font changes to the ID default, Minion Pro. When I click the Clear Overides button, the font reverts to the correct font for the style. There are no Character Style issues that are causing this, it seems purely related to the default font setting.
However, I've found a nice simple solution that I should've tried in the first place. Now that I've set the defaults to what I want them to be and tested this with a new document (as mentioned in original post), it was simply a matter of doing a Save As to get those changes to apply to my existing document.
    Thanks for the input everyone.

  • OSX Java 6 vs Java 5 fonts changed?

Finally I have Java 6 under OSX, but I noticed the fonts I use with Swing (jbuttons, jlabels etc) have changed, they are now much thinner somehow and difficult to read. Have there been major changes with font handling under OSX between 1.5 and 1.6? or some anti-aliasing changes? or something that would explain the ugly looking fonts.

If you moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard (10.5 -> 10.6) then they have changed the system font from Monaco to Menlo.

  • Using Labview and WIndows WP fonts change size for no reason

I can fix the page, come back in a few days and the font size has changed to a smaller size. Any idea why?
Message Edited by Fred Bauer on 10-13-2008 11:03 AM

Can you provide some more information on this? LV Version, are all the fonts changing, what custom font are you trying to use and on what parts of the front panel(text boxes, comments, control labels)?
I know in executables, the font size is standardized by the browser, but I find it odd that it works at first but then resets 'after a few days'
Looks like this user is having the same problem...I'll take a look into this when I get a chance, but any more information woul be useful.

  • Font selection problem in Word 2008. not sure if it's an OS X or MS issue.

let me preface my situation by stating that i have searched for a solution to my problem on google and i have tried everything that has been suggested and nothing worked.
    here is the problem:
a user at my office is using Word 2008. whenever he wants to change the font of the selected text by highlighting the text, then selecting a different font from the drop-down menu in the formatting pallet, and selecting a different font, the font changes to a different one than what was selected in the drop down menu.
this issue is replicated even in a new user profile on the same computer.
i have used FontNuke and FontFinagler to delete the font caches but that didn't work.
i have manually deleted the font caches and Word preferences.
    i have repaired permissions.
i have tried to validate the fonts via font book and removed all duplicates. no corrupt or damaged fonts were found.
there is no previous version of Office on this computer.
    help, please!
    thanks in advance.

Well, normally I'd remind you that it's not just the system font caches and the Office prefs (plist) that need trashing, but also the Office font cache at ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/
Office 2008/Office Font Cache (12). However, you say that this happens in all accounts, not just for a specific user, so unless there's something extra weird going on that somehow is writing a mistake into that same Font Cache file for each user (not out of the realm of possibility), I think maybe your solution is to reinstall Office - not something I sink to doing, or recommending, often.
But if you're not having any problems w/fonts anyplace else... and I haven't heard of this problem yet, or experienced it (tho I minimize my 2008 Word-ing because I can't give up my macros...)

  • Font changes depending on browser

Website built in Must with Verdana set as font throughout the site but the font changes dependng on the browser being used.  HELP!!!

Verdana is a "web safe" font. The whole concept of a "web safe" font is a bit of a misnomer. A web safe font is actually a list of fonts.
The tooltip that appears when you hover over "Verdana" in the list of Web Safe Fonts indicates the "fallback" fonts or the "font stack" associated with this web safe font.
The idea with web safe fonts is to choose fonts that are on the vast majority of computers, devices and operating system versions the visitors to your site will be using. However, no one font is on 100% of all computers and devices. When "Verdana" is not on a particular visitor's computer or device the browser will "fallback" to Tahoma. If Tahoma isn't available it will fallback to Geneva. If that's not available it will ask the browser to select a sans-serif font.
Even if Verdana is available on the visitor's computer or device, it may not be the same version of Verdana you were using (and thus may have subtlely different font metrics and thus different line breaks). Even if it is the identical font, the text layout and line breaks may still vary from browser to browser due to subtle differences in the text layout engines in each browser. In the case where the font isn't available at all and the browser has to fallback to another font, the appearance and layout of the text will be significantly different.
To get more consistent font display (though still with some variation from browser to browser and OS to OS) and live text in the browser, use Web Fonts. Click the "Add Web Fonts" choice in the Fonts menu and add some Web Fonts to your menu. These fonts are automatically downloaded from Typekit to the computer/device a site visitor is using, so the same font is always used. (However, rendering and line break differences will still occur due to the differences between browsers and operating systems.)
Another, albeit generally less desirable, option is to use System fonts. When a System Font is used Muse converts the text frame to an image. This makes for slower page load times, but in cases where a specific font absolutely must be used, it may be the only alternative. Muse automatically generates "alt text" for the image so the original text is still there for search engines to index and screen readers to read, but the user won't be able to select or search the text on the page in the browser.

  • Excel activex call changes between Office 2000 and Office XP. How does one manage that?

I have several Active X calls from within a VI. One in particular is
the Excel Cell Value property node in Office 2000. MS has decided to
call it Excel Cell Value2 in Office XP.
I have built and exe on a machine with Office 2000 and can run the code
on a machine with Office XP, but I can not build on the machine with
Office XP. I can also run a VI with that call
on the Office XP box, but if I mass compile the VI I get the broken arrow.
I guess I am confuesed as to why it can run but not compile. If the
ActiveX call is not there for the compile why is it there for the run?
If I can expect this does it work in reverse where I
build on an Office XP box and run on a Office 2000 box?

These problems you are experiencing do stem from the ActiveX changes between Excel versions.  When you mass compile LabVIEW checks to see if everything is linked correctly, including ActiveX portions of your code.  Since there are slight changes the LabVIEW compiler detects something is wrong, but cannot isolate the problem.  You might need to force a recompile of that VI.  Check out this link.

  • Is there a way to do a global font change in iWeb '09?

    Hi,
I inherited a web site, created in iWeb '09. I've got the site files on my Mac ... when I start iWeb,
and select a page to edit, it complains:
The following errors occurred while trying to open this page:
    Missing Font TrajanPro-Regular
    Missing Font TrajanPro-Bold
    Missing Font HelveticaNeue-Roman
Many (most or all) pages in the web site need these three fonts.
Thru googling, I know that those three fonts are proprietary fonts that I could purchase.
However, it seems silly to buy and install a font when the web server and end-user's
browser won't have it (and will therefore get substituted at their end).
Therefore, I think that my best choice is to change all uses of those fonts in the web site to
be uses of some "standard web fonts".
So, how do I do a global font change or substitution in iWeb '09? It seems like an awfully
obvious thing to want to do. (Finding each instance of use and manually selecting the text
and doing a font change is simply not feasible.)
(E.g.: Change "HelveticeNeue-Roman" to "Helvetica Regular")
    thanks,
    Stan

Is there a way to have hardware acceleration without the text font change? I remember there was a way to go into settings before and getting hardware acceleration to work without the font change. Also, I fixed a problem before where firefox was visually eye straining to me, I think it was some settings in anti-alias tuner, but I cant seem to find the right settings that puts less strain on my eyes, anyone know? Thanks ahead. Currently using FF7.
