Font changes from preview to printing

Is there a bug in iPhoto 8 that I haven't found related to font selection? My last two books have returned with a font at default size of 16pt for paragraphs- when I had selected 12pt.
Also type on the flap cover and page numbering came back as italic which I did not select.
In both cases I checked each book with a preview pdf prior to sending and they were as I wanted.
Suggestions please ?

Close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps. Also check in your User/Library/Caches/iPhoto folder and empty it's contents if any.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

    You can also try opening the PDF with preview, then doing a copy and paste to TextEdit and printing from there.
    Adobe makes it easier, but you do have software to accomplish this.
    Only download Adobe reader from this site, to avoid "fakes/spoofs/malware" that will cause damage to your machine.

  • I have to select a file – get Info – and change – open with and change from preview to another program and CHANGE ALL everytime I boot up

    Why do I have to select a file – get Info – select – open with – and change from Preview to another program and click CHANGE ALL with every file extention everytime I boot up.

    Back up all data.
    This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
    If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
    Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -Rh $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
    The first step should give you usable permissions in your home folder. This step will restore special attributes set by OS X on some user folders to protect them from unintended deletion or renaming. You can skip this step if you don't consider that protection to be necessary.
    Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
    from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
    In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
    That's one word, all lower case, with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
    Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Font Size in preview and printed web pages

    Hi: I have had a long running problem that annoys me. ever since I purchased a 20inch LCD and changed my display to 1680x1050, web pages that I print appear very small. the same thing happens if I go through preview. Word documents do not have this problem; the font size there appears normal and is easily read.
    Is there a solution to this?

    There is a way to increase the default 72 DPI rez that saving a PDF uses, if your interested I'l try to find it.
    Nevermind, found it...

  • Cp5 Background Fonts Change when Previewed (F12) or Published

    I recently upgraded from Cp4 to Cp5. I captured demonstrations and simulations on my clients machine, and them moved the files to my machine for development. When I preview or publish the project, the fonts in the background change from the system color to black or dark blue.
    Anyone experience this same issue, or have a good fix for it? I can fix them by hand, but fonts don't quite match the system fonts.
    Thanks!

    Use count is 1. There is nothing covering the slide. This is
    only happening with one slide. I even tried copying and pasting the
    background from another slide on to the one that isn't working

    The font I used while editing a cp4 slide changes when previewed in the web browser.  This does not happen with other slides in my project. What can i do to prevent this?

    Hi there
    It might help if you could please insert images of what you see in each view. Perhaps by seeing what you are describing we might understand what may be happening.
    Use the camera icon please. If you don't know what I'm referring to, click here and read the thread.

  • Cannot change from System Default Printer

    Using Windows XP (still, I know) and Adobe Reader XI, I am unable to switch from the default printer to another printer in Adobe Reader. I am able to do this in all other applications except Reader.
    I can change the default printer in Windows, open Reader and print to another printer, but the print dialog box doesn't allow me to change the default printer.
    I can select another printer from the drop down box. Then, I'm unable to open the printer settings dialog. If I click print, it sends the job to the default printer instead of the one I've chosen.
    The issue persists for multiple users on this pc even after creating new user profiles in Windows. I have about 10 printers installed on this machine and this happens with all of them. Different makes and models (Brother & Konica Minolta mostly) and also the default Microsoft XPS printer all do the same thing.
    TD;LR: I can only print to the Windows default printer.

    function printFullPEng() {
    var pp = this.getPrintParams();
    var pSize = this.getPageBox("Crop");
    if (pSize[1] > "792") {pp.printerName = "\\\\print-server\\HP Designjet 4000 HPGL2/RTL (Copy 1)";}
    else {pp.printerName = "\\\\print-server\\TOSHIBA 4520C PCL6 - Engineering";};
    pp.NumCopies = 1;
    pp.pageHandling = pp.constants.handling.none;
    fv = pp.constants.flagValues;
    pp.flags = (fv.setPageSize);
    this.print(pp);
    This is tied to a menu button. As I say, it works flawlessly in Acrobat 9, but will not change printers in Acrobat X.

  • How to change from two sided printing to one page printing on a macbook air

    How do you change the printer setting on a macbook air? I go to print something and it prints double sided, is there a way to change that setting?I have an Epson printer that does air printing. Please help!

    That would be a function of the printer settings. So once you call up the printer to print something go into the settings and change it from Duplex to single sided printing.

  • Why does the state of my fonts change from time to time?

    Every few days/hours I have to go to FontBook and switch fonts off and on to have FileMaker Pro 5.5 behave properly with greek fields.
    I don't understand: if once I've setup my fonts how I want them, why do they change by the next time I fire up FMP 5.5?
    In any case, how can I set up my fonts once, and save them in a collection so that the next time a mess occurs I only have to click on the Collection icon and revert to how I want them? Sort of like clicking on a playlist in iTunes. So far, clicking on Collections I have created doesn't affect the on/off state of fonts.
    Many thanks, as always.

    Hi, Alex.
    Are you running any "maintenance" software that performs a regular system cache cleaning? If so, that will enable fonts you've disabled. See the "How disabled fonts are handled in Font Book 2.0 under Tiger" section of my "Undoing Font Book" FAQ.
    Cache cleaning should not be part of regular maintenance: see my "Maintaining Mac OS X" FAQ. It covers my advice on "regular maintenance" and dispels some common "maintenance myths."
    Good luck!

  • Fonts change between preview and full view.

    Hello.  I'm running into an issue where a font appears differently between iBooks Author and my iPad.  I'm using Impact 96pt, and it shows up properly on my iMac and in the mini-preview screens on my iPad, but when I open the page to full view on my iPad, it switches to Arial 96pt.  The only other place this font appears in the iBook is in the TOC when in portrait view.  Everything else is formatted to styles I custom created.  Any ideas on how to fix this style/formatting bug?  And/or any ideas on how to change the font style of the portrait TOC?

    K T, thanks for taking a look. That's the weird thing.  Impact does show up on my font list, iBA lets me use it in creating styles, and Impact font text appears properly on the iBook's cover.  For now I'll just drop in this text as an image, but any ideas on how to keep it as a proper font would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why are prints from Preview cut off at bottom of page

    When I print a PDF from Preview the print has about 3/4" cut off the bottom of a portrait document or from the right of a landscape document.. When I print the same document from Acrobat Reader, it prints correctly. I use Page Setup before printing. The scaling in the other direction seems correct which makes the cut-off a mystery.
    I prefer Preview for PDFs as it is much faster than Acrobat Reader. The cut-off prints have caused me grief when I have not detected them. What is going on here?

    I have the same problem and can confirm it also happens in Leopard. There was traffic on a similar Leopard issue printing landscape to Windows shared printers that was fixed in 10.5.2, but it doesn't seemed to be solved for my situation (printing to CUPS shared printer). Note that it seems to be a bug in the way Preview creates a PDF for printing, since Adobe Reader works fine, and "lpr <filename>" from the command line will also work.
    If you have any more info since you posted, I would be interested.

  • Font change when converting a Word File

    I write documents using heading styles to automatically generate Tables of Contents, using Word 2003.  When I convert the document to PDF, everything is normal.
    When I transfer the same file to my laptop, which uses Word 2007, and try to convert the file to PDF, the TOC and Heading fonts change from Arial to Times New Roman. (The rest of the text stays in Arial).
    What am I doing wrong?
    The version of Acrobat (X) is used.

    Are you stating that the file previews correctly and only changes upon creating the pdf?
    Are you creating your pdf via printing to the Adobe PDF Printer or creating pdf via the Word button?

  • Preview and Print restrictions in PDF

    Hi there,
    I bought the Adobe Type Basics pack, and I would like to use one of the fonts that has the Preview and Print license.
    The Preview and Print license states that "Preview & Print allows the font, either fully or as a subset, to be embedded in an electronic document solely for the purpose of viewing that document on screen and/or printing that document. While a font with a Preview & Print embedding permission (either through data in the font file or the font’s license agreement) may be embedded in an electronic document, the embedded font may not be used to further edit the document it is contained in or to edit or create other documents."
    If I use this font in a PDF file meant to be sold/distributed, am I violating any of these terms? As far as I know, you can't create an "editable PDF." PDFs are, to my understanding, relatively static--so I do not understand why there is such specific wording about the prohibition of "further edits."
    I am using MAC Pages, so I could use the additional password protection option (under the "Save as PDF" not "Export as PDF" section)  to prevent people from "copying text, images, and other content." I presume "other content" covers fonts, but I'm not sure. And I don't know if the password encryption will prevent "editing." Technically doing so would be encrypting the PDF, I believe. However, this would not be bulletproof protection. And I do not know if that will prevent font extraction.
    I would appreciate some help. From what I understand, all these points seem more relevant for PSD, AI, EPS and other workflow-type files.
    Cheers

    Thanks for posing this question.
    Although fonts have embedding restrictions baked into the font such as preview and print, the real restrictions are to be found in a font's EULA (End User License Agreement) which may have other restrictions including payment of royalties on copies of PDF files or any other asset in which the fonts are embedded.
    In the case of any and all fonts sourced from Adobe, not only do you have at least preview and print embedding privileges, but there are no restrictions or royalties required for distribution of files (i.e., PDF, EPS, eBooks, etc.) in which the Adobe fonts are embedded.
    In other words, you are “good to go” with Adobe fonts. On the other hand, make no assumption about fonts sourced from other font foundries. Many do not provide such liberal terms!
