Font Collections Disappear after the Font Book is closed (OS X 10.4.3)

My font collections in Font Book 2 have been disappearing for awhile now and I can't seem to resolve this issue. So far I've reinstalled (archived) OS X 10.4.3, I've also tried throwing away the font book preferences (apple.com). I need help! I see that I'm not the only person who's having this problem. Is there something else I can do that doesn't involved reinstalling everything! Thanks Matt

Hi cmatt.
Make sure you are the Owner and have Access of Read & Write of your Home > Library > FontCollections folder. Font collections and font libraries you create are saved in this folder. You should be the Owner of
this folder and have Access of Read & Write on such.
Likewise, be sure you are the Owner and have Access of Read & Write of your Home > Library folder and your Home folder.
You can check this using the Details subpanel of the Ownership & Permissions Panel of the Get Info window of those folders.

Hello, I have written a font catalog (Java)script in the style of the Adobe Type Library Reference Book. I will upload it to Adobe Exchange as OpenSource. My question is now, if there exists an undocumented property to get the font designer and trademark owner? Perhaps sth. like app.fonts.everyItem().designer? It would be a nice gimmick. Or any other idea?

Nope.
If you want to info badly enough, you can use the location to get the font file and read the font yourself and parse it for the info you want...

How do I recover a "lost" font in Pages? The font file appears to exist in my MS Office area.

How do I recover a lost font in pages? The font management process seems very opaque, lots of areas on the hard drive with font folders. None seems to match the list of fonts I can pull down from the font menu in Pages. At the moment, the font I need is Century Gothic, which does reside in the MS Office area, but nowhere else that I can find. Would greatly appreciate help!

Thanks for the idea, fruhulda. I just checked (Jul 18) and the "missing" font is there. However, yesterday I tried a full restart of my computer, and it seemed to fix (?) the problem, so I still am not sure what happened. At any rate, the problem is now gone.

How stop the automatic statistics collection job after the maintenance wind

Hi,
we are for a solution to stop the automatic statistics collection job after the maintenance window finished.
we disable all jobs except the automatic statistics collection, because this is the only one we want to run. Then we define specific values for the interval and duration parameters of the maintenance window to customize this task.
But for their systems it is very important that this job/task will immediately stop when the window is closed!!!
So, how could we ensure this behavior.
For Oracle 10g it is easy because the statistic job always exists and it is possible to set its duration and create an addtional event based job which kills all jobs that are running over duration.
In Oracle 11g the statistic job is created by the system during the maintenance window is open.
We are not able to modify parameters of this system job. After the maintenance window closed the job is already running - only with another resource priority - but it is running.
Please help me in this scenario

?So basically you are saying is if none of the tables are changed then GATHER_STATS_JOB will not run, but i see tables are updated still the job is not running. I did >query dba_scheduler_jobs and the state of the job is true and scheduled. Please see my previous post on the output

So basically you are saying is if none of the tables are changed then GATHER_STATS_JOB will not run,GATHER_STATS_JOB will run and if there are any table in which there's a 10 percent change in data, it will gather statistics on that table. If no table data have changes less than 10 percent, it will not gather statistics.

Activated fonts not found in the font list.

A constant problem - active fonts not found in the font list.
And often when I can find trouble fonts, they're not correctly alphabetically ordered. I understand this may be the fault of the font author - not saving the correct screen name for the font so it matches it's actual name.
Here's a strange case - Homestead. An approach to typography I've never seen before - you're meant to layer up multiple instances of the same text object and alter it's subset of the Homestead family. But activate the whole family and you'll never find more than one of it's family members at a time. Activate just one and you'll find it (not in alphabetical order, though). Deactivate that one and activate another - now you'll find it. This makes it's very cumbersome to use the font as intended. What is Aunt Illy doing here and why?

You have a font conflict on your machine. Clear your font cache, you must have another font conflicting. The whole family loads for me, and shows in Illustrator.

Unable to copy the font testgenrg.otf to the Fonts Folder??

I have a iMac desktop running Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I have started to get two errors messages. The first says "Unable to copy the font testgenrg.otf to the Fonts Folder. Please copy this from your Program folder to your System Fonts folder".
The second says "The following fonts have not been installed properly "TestGen Regular". Please copy them to you System fonts folder".
I have searched my system and I don't see that I have that file anywhere on my system. Can anyone tell me where it might be located and where it is supposed to be located and how to fix this issue? I don't really see any impact to my use of my iMac but the messages keep popping ups. Thank you.

I have not tried to install anything. Do I need to go back to my installation disk and pull it off there? I have looked for it on the HD but it is no where to be found. I will check to see if I can double click on the name of the file in the error message but I didn't see that as a possibility. Thanks.

I don't know if I'm on the same page as you.
But if you backed up the phone with those contacts pictures notes etc, you should get them back.
After restoring your phone, use the back up that done when you had those contacts messages etc??

You've tried tapping on the Collections button at the top of the bookshelf to see if they are in a different collection ? If not then do you have a copy of them in the Books part of your computer's iTunes library (though PDFs aren't iTunes purchases, if you've done 'transfer purchases' whilst they were on the iPad then they should have copied over) ?
ibooks and PDFs aren't included in a device's backup, so if they aren't in your computer's iTunes library and/or you don't have your own backup copy of them then they won't be on your computer (for info there isn't an iBooks app/program for a Mac or PC).

My font totally changed after the last Firefox update. It is a little smaller, less bold and very much less clear. Please tell me how to fix this.

The default font used on websites like Facebook, Craigslist, Google etc. has now become much worse since the last update. It is much less clear, it almost looks choppy and transparent. As if part of the letters are missing. Less bold and just a tad smaller as well. I would like to go back to the way the font used to look like, the way it does in Internet Explorer and Chrome.

hi miked91, this is probably caused by microsoft update kb3013455 which can cause font rendering issues on vista:

one option may be to [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/remove-update#1TC=windows-vista roll-back this particular update] for now until there is a fix by microsoft or you could also look if there is a [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|graphics driver update]] available on the website of the vendor (intel/amd/nvidia) which might also resolve this problem in some cases.

Letters disappear after embedding fonts in acrobat.

I am working on my thesis and I have to have all of my fonts embedded. I used Latex to create a pdf/ps and now I am trying to figure out how to get the fonts embedded.
From what I have read, acrobat and distiller can do this. When I run the ps through distiller, it embeds all my fonts but Times and Helvetia. So I tried running the pdf through acrobat. I used the preflight tools to embed all fonts, which works but after a letters like i, l and t are all missing from my document.
Anyone know how to fix this. I have to have all my fonts embedded. Any way to do this or help would be much appreciated.

No, that particular menu is specific to Acrobat. Even though I'm using the Touchup Text tool, the TouchUp Text menu doesn't want to come up properly. Anyone know how this could happen? Any suggestions to fix it?

Mailing List I made up disappeared from the address book after I got out of the address book.

I made up a mailing list with all my families emails in it. I got out of the address book and when I went into it again later, the mailing list I just made up was not there.

I would recommend that you check out Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, by Kurt Lang.
Another possibility is to Quit Address Book, find the com.apple.AddressBook.plist in the ~Library/Preferences Folder. Drag it to the Desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Attempting to install a newer version as you have discovered will not work.

My fonts appear blurry after the update how do I fix it

I just did the firefox 4.06 update and now every font on every web page I've pulled up looks blurry and crowded. This that I'm typing and even the toolbar menu and bookmark title words are hard to read. I have a 1080p monitor and it was much better before this update. Something visual happened and either I want it undone or need a fix ASAP. Is it something to do with this directX 10 that was mentioned on the splash screen after the install?

hmmm...so it might be the mouse. If you live near an Apple Store I would bring in the MacBook Pro and see if seconday click works with one of their store mice to help determine if it is the mouse or the software.

System Fonts not showing in the font list

After I upgraded Adobe CC 2014.3.1.44, CL78964 on my Windows 8 (64-bit) computer, none of the system fonts are listed within Muse.
Understand two things, one. This used to work fine. I was able to see all of the system fonts, now only the ones on this list show up. Two, and fonts that I add via the web kit doesn't show up either.
I have uninstalled, then reinstalled. Nothing. I have also looked for the elusive fonts.db, which cannot be found on my system. Ideas?

Thanks for the prompt response. We are wondering if you could try a few other things that will help isolate the issue. Our theory is the issue might be related to OS user permissions.
Run Adobe Muse CC as an Administrator
Locate the "Adobe Muse CC 2014" shortcut icon in Windows Explorer
Right-click the "Adobe Muse CC 2014" icon and then click "Run as administrator"
When the "User Account Control" is displayed, do one of the following:
If you are logged on as a standard user, or if the user account control is configured to always require credentials, enter the appropriate administrative credentials, and then click "OK"
If you are logged on as an administrator and user account control is not configured to always require credentials, click "Yes" to start the application
After Muse finishes launching, create a new site and inspect the font drop-down
Verify "Local Store" folder permissions
Open a Windows Explorer dialog
In the address field enter "%appdata% and open the folder named "com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.3".The folder path should be similar to the following with <username> being the current OS user's nameC:\Users\ <username> \AppData\Roaming\com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.3
Right-click on the folder "Local Store" and select "Properties"
In the "Local Store Properties" tab, select "Security"
Select the current user name from the "Group or user names" list
Observe the section "Permissions for ...." in the "Local Store Properties" dialog. Does the user have full permissions (full control, modify, read & execute, list folder contents, read, write)?
Do you know if the Windows OS user account you are using is an administrator or standard user on your machine? You can find out by navigating to the following in Windows Explorer and selecting "Manage User Accounts":
Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts
