Font contains a bad /BBox

Adobe Acrobat Professional 8
We are getting an error message in some pdf files stating,"The Font 'Times New Roman PS - Italic MT' contains a bad /BBox."
What is this error mean?  Why does it occur? How do you fix it?

Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

  • Font with bad BBox

Oftentimes, when I try to read a file in Acrobat Reader X or in Acrobat X, I get the error message  the font 'LucidaGrande' contains a bad BBox.
It doesn't occur for every file (perhaps because that font is not used.)
This is more of an annoyance that a show stopper, but is there any way to fix it?
    I am running Acrobat 10.1.3 on a MacBook running OS X 10.6.8.
It also occurs on my office iMac, with the same software and OS.

Same exact problem here. Went from Quickbooks Enterprise 10 to 11 this week, and sending out batchs of Customer Statements resulted in the "bad bbox" unreadable error. Generating the Statements one at a time works fine.
Intuit seems to know about the problem and is unhelpful to say the least. Thier suggestion is "don't use the features we coded into our software and sold to you, waste your entire day sitting there and create Statements one at a time". Thanks Intuit!!

By the way, I did notice that the "Quickbooks PDF Printer" driver seemed to be missing. My Quickbooks install was using "Microsoft XPS driver" or something like that.  Perhaps that is part of the problem?
I have downloaded, from Intuits website, a tool called "PDF problem finder and fixer" or something like that, and ran it.
BE AWARE that if you run this tool, it kills all Quickbooks processes running on the system without warning, so my users that we logged in and working via Terminal Sessions and otherwise got kicked off right in the middle of the day. Again, cheers Intuit.
After the tool ran (more like a DOS / Command line script) - I did have the Quickbooks PDF Printer available as a Printer. I *think* that after a Statement is printed using any given printer driver, that's the one used going forward. We are creating a big batch of Statements and hope it resolves the issue.

  • Bad /BBox

Hello folks - I am new to this forum and I have an issue we need help with.
I am the admin for my Co. who uses QuickBooks Ent 11 and we send out our pay stubs to all our employees via the built in QuickBooks web email service. We have been doing this for years and only recently have the issue ( we upgraded Qb from version 10 to 11 )
The PayStubs are automatically converted into pdf format and then sent out. Each employee gets their stub this way and they can either download the file to there PC or open it - they do need to enter a password since the pdf is password protected.
What is happening to some folks and not others ( this is what is baffling ) is that when they open the pdf after entering their password - some employees will get an Adobe Dialog box with an error that "The font LRKLXQ+TimesNewRoman contains a bad /BBox" and  behind the error - I see the document opened but it looks like Morse Code with lines running it - nothing readable.
I spoke with QuickBooks at length and all they can suggest was to use Outlook to send out the Stubs -- OK good-bye - they could not help.
I spoke with Adobe Tech person who said they never saw that error and maybe each employee is using a old version of Adobe Reader! Ok - bye bye too.
I can read my stub  no problem - the person next to me cannot read hers - same PC model - same Adobe Version - email client not-withstanding - the issue occurs with WebMail / Outlook clients / Thunderbird Clients etc - its a mixed bag. I cannot tell who is having the issue all the time because this week I can read my stub but next week I can't and get the error !!! and person who could not read his/her stub can now read the next one they get !!
Also - we seem to get the error only with PayStub function - and from what I can tell, it does not happen with any  other report or reports that go out as pdf docs.
Don't know what else to tell - we are running QB on a Windows 2003 Server up-to-date patches etc - Adobe 9.3 installed  - all is Ok with QB too on that server.
I really am hoping that someone here can help.
Right now  my HRO person is printing each person's PayStub and scanning it to each employee - in PDF Format - which they have no problem opening!!
    Please -- HELP!!

  • Error message "Font LucidaGrande contains a bad b/BBox"

I recently started getting an error message "Font LucidaGrande contains a bad b/BBox" when I attempt to open a pdf file. Obviously that font is corrupted. How do I fix it. I am running Mac OS X 10.7.4? Thanks in advance

Thanks much Robert. And I am in fact using Chrome. You've read my mind

  • Adobe Pdf Reader throws "AgencyB contains Bad/bbox".

    hi,
I have created pdf document in vb6 and whenever i open it with vb6 code it gives "The AgencyB contains Bad/bbox."
so, Please give me solution to sort out this problem.
    thanks

i've also used other Fonts Times and Courier, but it gives the same error. If i open it without vb6 code it gets opened without error. But whenever i use acrobat reader in vb6 to view the PDF, it gives that error.  Like "Acrobat may not display the page correctly. please contact who created it."
i've used 'mjwpdf.cls' to generate PDF and open it in Adobe acrobat reader.

  • Font contains bad/widths message, what does that mean?

I saved a pdf file and a message came up with "The font * contains bad/width". There are places in my pdf, that have bad font formatting. What can I do to get my font formatting to correct itself? I had a file that was perfect, I then renamed it to change some parts of it. The newly renamed file is giving me this error message. I have Acrobat 8 professional and Windows XP.

Are the places with bad font formatting, the places that were changed when you changed some parts of it? How did you change the file..insert another pdf page?...edited text? or what?

  • When Core Font's Go Bad.

Hello, fired up Indesign this morning to work with a document, quickly finded that the old document i was looking at didn't have the required font's. I have not been able to install FontAgent yet really, so i thought, well... let's give FontBook a try. Went into my Windows machine and pulled some Lucida .ttfs such as Grande, Sans osv osv. Installed them into OSX, everything was fine. Until next reboot. Then i saw that i replaced Mac OSX core fonts, which was Bad.
Now my whole system looks like this

All fonts are misplaced, the menus look bad osv osv. Please help me out with this problem.

  • 'Font contains bad/Widths' and 'Cannot find/create font' errors when saving pdf as Other Reduced Size PDF

I am exporting .indd files from within Indesign as pdf files, opening in Acrobat Pro XI. I have no trouble creating the initial pdf file, however, when I go to Save Other > Reduced Size PDF I get error messages. Depending on the file, I receive either the message, "The font (Myriad Pro) contains bad/Widths" replacing the text with dots or "Cannot find or create the font (Helvetica) Some characters may not print or display properly" replacing text with dots or boxes.
My confusion is that the file is exporting to pdf from Indesign without error, it is only when I try to Save Other> Reduce Size PDF that the error occurs.
Also, it is only occurring on five out of 120 pages. These same fonts are on other pages and I have no trouble at all with exporting or Reduce Size PDF.
More frustrating is that I have never had this problem occur in all my previous versions of Acrobat using the same process and typefaces.
I am reaching deadline on this and cannot find a solution other than to reload Acrobat 9 and ditch this upgrade.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I, too have experienced this issue. Upon export from INDD CS6, I see the error message "The font 'IXWIPX+SourceHanSansSC-Bold' contains bad \Widths."
The only items on the single-page InDesign document I'm trying to export are copies of a one-page PDF (which was extracted from a longer PDF, arranged into a cover format). I can provide all files as necessary. The longer document that the one page came from also experienced an error when I tried to print to Adobe PDF. While I still get a PDF of the cover on export, despite the "bad \widths" message, it won't print from certain machines. I get nothing (not even an empty shell file) from the attempt to print the larger document (where the cover elements came from) to PDF.
I can deal with these issues with a few unorthodox workarounds, but wanted to offer comments or volunteer to help test fixes if possible.
For the record, I'm really not enjoying Acrobat XI. It doesn't seem to have much by way of new features (at least not that I use), and some of those I used most in version X are gone or less functional. Common fonts like Times New Roman are often not found (even though they are definitely on my system); I have a much harder time editing text through the new interface, and I have a few other small gripes—some that I don't have time to get into, others that wouldn't really matter, except that they weren't a problem until I "upgraded." Just sayin'.
    Thanks for listening.

  • Font Display Quality Bad After Update

    Hello all,
my font display is really bad since upgrading to Tiger. I have Font Smoothing Style set to automatic and have tried light and others but everything appears over-sharpened. For example, as I type this, the font has an extereme sharpening, so much so that I see highlights on the top edges of characters. Regular Verdana appears in both Safari and Firefox as bold, and bold looks black. All in all, everything looks awful. I am using an Apple Cinemascreen. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I don't know FontExplorerX but check its compatibility with Tiger. You want to try disabling this font manager client?

  • Font Rendering Got Bad After 32.0 Update

After the recent update, the font started to get badly rendered. Kind of blurry with jagged edges and transparent parts. It used to be okay D:
Sometimes it becomes okay for a moment as I scroll down on pages, and sometimes when I stop scrolling, the font stays as it is; as if there are specific positions for the text to render properly. However, not all of the fonts are affected. Only the ones inside the scroll area.
On times that the font renders properly, the bookmarks font, title bar, and tab names are unaffected and still appear not-smooth. Same thing does not happen on other browsers. All my other system fonts look okay; it's really just Firefox.
    Restarting Firefox = didn't work
    Restarting Computer = didn't work
Tried setting up Clear Type = didn't work
Tried enabling and disabling Hardware Acceleration on Firefox = didn't work
Tried enabling and disabling the Graphics card itself = didn't work
Tried just about all of the suggestions I found on Google = none worked
Tried complete uninstall and re-install of Firefox 32.0 = didn't work
    Graphics Driver are updated ~
    Windows is updated ~
    I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
    Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6800
I fixed it by downgrading to Firefox 31 which makes me sure that 32.0 is the culprit. As I was about to send the message on top; I tried downgrading as my last resort and it worked. Now I'm only sending this as a report. I am hoping you'll figure out what caused it because I am quite strict (OC) that everything in my PC must remain updated >_<; thus I want to use Firefox 32.0 as much as possible.

No one to help on this ??????

  • IPhone Safari Font Sizes are bad

Anyone else notice the bad font sizes in iPhone Safari?
I am writing a web site and am having trouble getting safari to render fonts on the iphone the same way they are rendered on safari... I tried changing the font-family to Verdana and Arial since those are supposed to be supported on both the iPhone and Mac Safari but that did not fix it...
As a great example go to google and search for something on your iphone.
The word "Sign in" on the top right is too large...
The word "Web" (right under the search box) is too small...
The other words in the blue bar with "Web" are also too large...
Right now my current solution is to pin point things that are too small and too large and on a case by case basis change the font sizes for those elements... This is pretty ridiculous when you have a large site and lots of pages...

Sweet your thing wasnt right but pointed me to the right location:
    I just needed:
    html {-webkit-text-size-adjust:none}

  • Font error message

Everytime I scroll to the last page of my FORM document I receive this error message: The font 'NFTYEM+Arial-BoldMT' contains a bad /BBox.
    How do I fix this?
    Thanks

George, my new best friend - hi again!!!
Interesting you should say that. I did have to edit that last page and replace it. When I open it before it was a form and when it was turned inot a form, when it is a single page, I don't get the error message. But once its placed with the others I get it.

  • Error Opening Created PDF

My Grandson is filling out a PDF template provided by the BoyScouts of America (BSA) and has run into a problem when trying to open a document that he's been working on for weeks. He's using Adobe Acrobat X Pro  10.1.3
The message that he's receiving is "This document enabled extended features in ADOBE Reader. The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no longer available. Please contact the author of this document.  (He is the author - Been updating the PDF for weeks)
He responds to continue and notices that some pages are missing. While scrolling down in the document he receives a second error which states
An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly. Please contact the person who created this document to correct the problem (He is the author - Been updating the PDF for weeks)
The error states "The font GXAPFY+Helveticalnuev - Bbold contains a bad /BBox).
He can reply continue and page down.  Lots of pages missing / lots of stuff messed up.
    What is the solution?
Thanks from my Grandson  - "A Future Eagle Scout"

Version 8 should work, but not earlier, since they did not have an internal flash player.

  • [SLVD?]Openoffice fonts have bad spacing, hair spaces still don't work

Compare the first pic of Times New Roman in Openoffice, with the second pic in mousepad. (They are both size 12, I have no clue why the Openoffice one is smaller than the mousepad one.)
The spacing between the letters in the Openoffice version looks funny for some reason. You can really see the difference at the "as I cannot" and "example".
Why are the Openoffice fonts like this? Is there any way to make them normal? I have tried using other fonts, but Liberation and DejaVu also exhibit the same behaviour.
EDIT: Also, hair spaces don't work in Openoffice.
EDIT2: I realized that Openoffice was at an 83% view, and at 100% view it looks better.
Hair spaces still don't work though.

Some fonts don't support hair spaces. I have only checked a few fonts, but so far none of the MS fonts contain the hair space, U+200A. Times New Roman, Courier New and Arial don't have that glyph.
