Font conversion from MAC to PC

A INDESIGN document was created for me on a MAC. The file along with the fonts were sent over to me but the files containing the individual fonts used in the document had file sizes equalling zero. Is this because they were from a MAC? If this wasnt due to an error by the creator, is there a way to convert the fonts so that they open up properly when the document is launched?  I am now getting the MISSING FONTS box when I try to open the document.  Thanks for your input everyone.

A 0 filesize for a font is a good indicator for a Mac format font opened on a PC.  Nothing you can do with them on your end but substitute another font.
If you want to share files with Mac users you need to standardize on OpenType fonts, which are true cross-platform files, or on Windows flavored fonts. OS X can work with Windows TrueType installed inthe system fonts folder, and ID can use both Windows TrueType and Type1 Windows fonts loaded into the private InDesign or Common Adobe fonts folders.
Unfortunatley, old Mac fonts keep the actual font information in the resource fork which is totally invisible to Windows, so they don't work even in the private fonts folders on PC.

  • IMessage won't start conversation from Mac

    Hey everyone,
Iv'e been looking for a solution online for this problem iv'e been having, but i couldn't find answers anywhere.
The problem is that for some reason, i can't start a conversation from my mac when trying to send new messages. when i send those messages from my iphone it works, and then i can continue the conversation from my mac.
also, iv'e noticed that it takes a lot of time for messages to "sync" itself with my conversations that i started on my iphone. is there any way to "refresh" imessage (like on mail for example...)???
i verified that my accounts on both devices are the same, that i have the same settings, but still, nothing works.
anyone is having the same problems?? anyone has a solution...?
    Thanks,
    Tal.

    Hi,
So,  in Messages main window you have New Message at the top left.
You are entering  your Contacts Name in the "To" field or using the Blue + icon > Contacts and selecting the contact.
The name is turning Blue ?
The Text entry field at the bottom also reads iMessage ?
If the name is not Blue then carefully click the downward arrow head at the end of the name.
Select the active iMessage option (highlighted with blue Speech bubble)
Does the name go Blue now ?
I tried testing with my iMessage Account logged out and the setting in the General Section set to Allow IMs and iMessages to "Wake" the app but this did not start the iMessage account when iMessaging from the iPhone
It was only a one off test with the app open but the account logged out which seemed closest to what you describe.

  • Restore an iMessage conversation from Mac to iPhone

    Hi,
A couple of months ago, I deleted a contact from my address book, along with the corresponding iMessage conversation from this contact.  Both the contact and the conversation were manually deleted from my Mac and my iPhone (I think, although maybe I just deleted it from my iPhone?).  Both devices are using the same AppleID/iCloud account.
About a month ago, I added the contact back in (I can't recall if I added the contact back on my Mac first or my iPhone first) and the entire iMessage conversation had been restored on my Mac (I was actually quite amazed that the entire conversation was restored on the Mac.  I didn't really know that all that is stored in lCloud).  On my iPhone, however, only the iMessage conversation messages that were exchanged since the contact was added back in are present on the iPhone.
Is there a way to force the iPhone to refresh the entire conversation from this particular contact from iCloud, or from my Mac?
I use iCloud backup to back up my phone, not my Mac.
    Thanks!

Not that I know of. You would have to restore a back-up of the iPhone before the message was deleted. You can also take screen shots on the Mac of the conversation. That would save the conversation in your photos, and you can sync those. Maybe someone else can chime in if I'm missing something.

  • Complex iPod Conversion from Mac to PC (NOT by choice)

I have a 5th generation (video) 60 GB iPod. It's great, I love it, no complaints.
Unfortunately, I was working in a Mac environment went I bought it, and I have been saving all of my media files (music, video, etc.) to an external hard drive (Maxtor - Model One Touch, 250GB).
Well, now I've taken a job in a purely PC environment. Obviously, in order to sync/update my iPod, I'm going to have to convert it over to PC, which will (again, obviously) wipe out the iPod's hard drive.
My biggest fear is that, since I have been also running my external hard drive in a Mac environment, if I plug it into my PC, will it balk, or worse yet, will the data be lost??
So after all that, my question is, can I convert my iPod to PC, and the restore the data from the external hard drive? Or is this a hopeless situation, and am I going to have to start all over again from scratch?
    Please help!!
5th gen 60 GB video iPod   Windows XP

Here's the problem you are going to have. Windows cannot read any Mac formatted hard drive because it is incapable of reading the HFS+ file system that Macs use.
If you need to use a Mac formatted iPod or ext hard drive on a Windows PC, you'll need to install some 3rd party software such as XPlay 2.0 or MacDrive (which you can get from MediaFour Software). This will enable your Windows PC to read a Mac-formatted iPod.

Otherwise, it's start all over again time.

  • MOV File Conversion from Mac to PC

I have some footage shot in HD and imported into Final Cut Pro on a mac. When I take the MOV files and put them on my PC, the audio is all messed up. It repeats in places, cuts out in others, and is off by a second or two in other places. Another PC I tried to view it on only plays the audio, which sounds good, but the video is entirely missing. I've tried VLC media player and Any Video Converter on the PC.
I imagine your answer will be to change some settings in Final Cut Pro and save or export the files. That is fine if it is the resolution, but I'd rather fix it on the PC side because my camera guy is the one with the MAC and FCP. I have a PC. I don't care what file format the files end up on the PC. MOV, MPEG, AVI, would all be fine.

*When I take the MOV files and put them on my PC, the audio is all messed up.*
Let's start with the pixel size, frame rate, and codec of this movie file.

    Any help would be appreciated.

If this is an urgent project you can attempt to convert the videos on your PC.

The free ones usually have unpleasant interfaces, which Videora being the exception.

  • Mapping fonts from Mac to Windows in CS4

What is the most efficient process to map fonts in multiple documents opened from Mac to Windows?
Currently we are working on 600+ documents that we need to convert to Windows from Mac. Every time we open a new document, the missing fonts dialog comes up. We replace the fonts. However, it appears there's no provision to automatically do this for every new opened document without manually going through this process each time!
Couldn't find any reference to this issue in Help, KB, forum. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

OK guys, here's where we are now: apparently there's no way to batch process multiple documents without going each time through the "missing fonts" dialog. However, we were able to make this process as short as possible by using "load character styles" for each document when opened.
And it's possible to do this across the network.
Going through "load character styles" and synchronizing two documents [the saved one and the latest opened one], we are able to at least map the fonts consistently from doc to doc. This operation is still time consuming, especially considering the large number of docs we have to process.
I'm going to look into the scripting option if there's a way to automate this process.
The same synchronization process could be done by using the "book" option. But that involves again manually adding documents to the book one-by-one.

I found this plugin which solved pretty much all of my mail font rendering problems.  It is designed for Lion, so don't know whether it will work but thought I would offer it up.

  • Font issues in Illustartor going from Mac to PC

We are using Illustrator CS3 with Adobe Open Type fonts on both a PC and Mac machine. When opening an .ai file on the PC that was created on the Mac, we get all the missing font errors. Both computers have the same fonts installed. The interesting thing is that files created on the PC open fine on the Mac without any font issues. What's the deal?

"I have problem in keeping my songs on iPOD when connecting to my new PC?"
Well a Mac formatted iPod cannot be read by a pc without the use of 3rd party software (such as XPlay2), and of course if you reformat the iPod for pc use, you'll lose the songs.
Do you still have access to the Mac, or are your songs on the iPod only?

  • Sync old iMessage conversations from iPhone to new iPad & Mac?

I have had my iPhone for a couple years now, and have accumulated a fairly large amount of iMessage conversations from various people. A few days ago, I purchased my first iPad and also updated my Mac to Mountain Lion. By doing so, I now have access to iMessage on three devices in total, whereas before I only had one.
I have managed to setup my devices so that all new iMessages I send and receive are being synced between them. However, is it possible to sync my old iMessage conversations from my iPhone back onto my iPad and Mac?
I would like to do so in order to keep a full record of the past conversations I have had with my contacts.
I have done a bit of research before posting, but the only related topics I found werehttps://discussions.apple.com/message/19095937 andhttps://discussions.apple.com/message/17818920. The former was left unresolved, whereas the latter describes a solution which I am unable to reproduce.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Hi,
For me this was very early on in my Mountain Lion days.
I would now say that you cannot sync iMessages from an iOS device that were sent before your linked any Apple ID with the iPhone Number or added the Mac to the use of the Apple ID.
At the point at which and Apple ID is used on both an iPad and the Mac version of Messages becomes it's "Start date"
The same can be said for adding an Apple ID to an iPhone and the Mac.
On the Mac all messages can be saved if you wish.
This are in the .ichat format which you can send to Mac  Buddies and then can open them and read them as if they were the chat (i.e they display as "chats').
There appears to be no way in iTunes to access the iMessages (or SMS ones) on the iPhone.
Someone who knows more about the iOS may be able to tell you if they are accessible another way.

  • Convert EPS images from Mac to PC

I wonder if anyone have any experience of converting large
quantities of images from Mac to PC? I have several thousands of

PC-eps. Anyone know any application that can accomplish
    this?

Do the EPS files contain live text? Fonts could be an issue
    unless you are
doing the conversion on a PC and replacing fonts as you go.
    The only other
difference between Mac and PC EPS files is the preview. If
    you don't need
the PC preview, you may not need to do the conversion at all.
FH cannot open (as editable) many flavors of EPS file, but
    can import an EPS
and export it as QuarkXPress EPS which contains both Mac and
    PC previews. I
don't know about the quality of the PC preview in this case,
    as it would be
based on the Mac preview, not the original Postscript data.
    If you're on a
Mac, you could possibly use an Applescript to open and export
    the EPS files.
The task would be simpler and more reliable using
    Illustrator, which has a
    Postscript interpreter and is scriptable.

  • User fonts missing from book but still in folder

Help. My user fonts suddenly don't show up in font book. I've tried all the standard fixes.
    - restarted in SAFE mode.
    - cleared the font cache
    - verified the disc
    - repaired permissions
    - reinstalled both font book and the user font folder from an older version in Time Machine
    - Verified all the fonts.
I haven't tried tossing them in another user account yet because I find the idea of having to reset up the entire user account alarming. Is there anything else I can try? These fonts all worked just days ago.
If I click on the fonts in the user folder they come up 'installed' and reappear. But as soon as I close and reopen fontbook they disappear again.
Here's the general console readout (the short version, there is a lot more of the same.)

This might be too late to help Starhorsemac, but I just solved a nearly identical problem on my iMac running Mountain Lion.
The problem turned out to be that the fontd lauchd agent had been disabled for my account.  Re-enabling the agent made all of my user fonts re-appear in Font Book.
To check and see if fontd is running, open a terminal window and type:
launchctl list | grep -i fontd
If fontd is running, you'll get a line similar to this:
         154     -     com.apple.fontd
If fontd is running, your problem is different than mine.
If fontd is not running, you can start it with this command:
launchctl load -wF -D system com.apple.fontd
I hope someone finds this useful.

  • Can't initiate a video conference from Mac to PC wtih iChat and AIM

I am using iChat on an iMac intel core duo and trying to video chat with my dad on a PC laptop using AIM 5.9. We can both invite the other to video chat, however when either one click to accept various things keep us from initiating the chat. One message we get says a firewall may be the problem. My firewall is turned off. He is running Norton. But we tried with that firewall turned off as well as the windows firewall tirned off. At the moment we are on the same network connected via a 2wire router (Myself wirelessly and he via ehternet). I have tried various settings with the router firewall including setting the PC to DMZ and the Mac to the settings specified on portforwarding.com.
When I initiate the conversation from the Mac he gets a brief flicker like the video window is opening and then it closes; meanwhile my computer says waiting for response until it gives up. When he initiates the video chat and I accept I get the message that the chat failed because I did not respond even thougth I clicked accept. He gets a mesage that the chat failed and the reason may be a firewall.
Any ideas on how to get this to work so that we are able to video chat. Also he will be returning home in a few days and using a linksys router.
Any help or ideas to try would be great

    Dear Ralph,
Sorry for the confusion, I did assume you were an Apple empoyee. Your knowledge about iChat is stunning. I appreciate your effort to help users by sharing your knowledge with such dedication. I do apologise.
    Regarding:
Port forwarding is being automated and static ip addresses will be generated automatically.
Let's call it redirection (the handshake indicates the port to forward to).
When you have NAT running in your home you have the entire Internet available to all your machines. What if you have a machine behind the NAT gateway that needs to be accessed from outside? This is where redirection comes in. Redirection allows incoming traffic to be sent to a machine behind the NAT gateway.
    An example:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 80 -> 192.168.1.20
This line redirects TCP port 80 (web server) traffic to a machine inside the network at 192.168.1.20. So, even though 192.168.1.20 is behind your gateway and inside your network, the outside world can access it.
The from any to any part of the above rdr line can be quite useful. If you know what addresses or subnets are supposed to have access to the web server at port 80, you can restrict them here:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 27.146.49.0/24 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.20
This will redirect only the specified subnet. Note this implies you can redirect different incoming hosts to different machines behind the gateway. This can be quite useful. For example, you could have users at remote sites access their own desktop computers using the same port and IP address on the gateway as long as you know the IP address they will be connecting from:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 27.146.49.14 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.20
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 16.114.4.89 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.22
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from 24.2.74.178 to any port 80 -> \
    192.168.1.23
A range of ports can also be redirected within the same rule:
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 5000:5500 -> \
    192.168.1.20
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 5000:5500 -> \
    192.168.1.20 port 6000
rdr on tl0 proto tcp from any to any port 5000:5500 -> \
    192.168.1.20 port 7000:*
These examples show ports 5000 to 5500 inclusive being redirected to 192.168.1.20. In rule #1, port 5000 is redirected to 5000, 5001 to 5001, etc. In rule #2, the entire port range is redirected to port 6000. And in rule #3, port 5000 is redirected to 7000, 5001 to 7001, etc.
Static ip addresses are necissary to ensure that the router does not hand out the same ip twice, hence my question about the data transferred when a user connects his new mac to the one wich was set previously by the user (or other user). I think this information is explained in the Network Traffic Analysis you direct iChat to when they are asked to port forward (manually). I do not know the url by heart but it should be a known link to you.
    Regarding auto response:
Sometimes you have to consider whether a very direct (and unelegant) interveniance in the software outweights the malfunction of an application that is causing a lot of trouble and inconvinience to Mac users. Personally I think that in this case the risk of being disturbed (still the same as anyone who askes for attention using chat or even phone) outweighs the much more irritating and incomprehensible "user did not respond" message and thus not being able to use one of the main features promised and promoted by Apple.
    Yes life is inconsistent,
at least life is not sold to you.
    Regards,
    JPM

  • Deleting a Single Conversation from one Contact

I have to say I find this a real let down with Skype.
It is a breach of users rights to not be able to delete one conversation, and have it removed from all devices used.
I use my Skype 24/7 for work and staying in touch with family, and therefore my history becomes FULL.
Some of the conversations I have I need to keep for work reference, others with family, and non important stuff I need to delete.
It is crazy that this cannot be done, and all you can do is delete your whole history - which is a non option for me, otherwise I would loose things like customer quote details, details for flights etc etc etc.
Also deleting your history deletes all your favourites, and all the groups we have set up, eg Sales / Support etc !!!!
Really stupid and not very efficient at all.
Can someone from Skype PLEASE answer why this has been done as such ?

Why would it be possible to delete a single conversation using Mac and not PC?  This thread, in the meantime is from 2013 and the issue has been raised multiple times, yet no response from Skype.  The management of the contact list and of information stored in the account is certainly as fundamental as being able to throw away old telephone bills and account statements.  The necessity to maintain messy and irrelevant has never been explained by skype that I can find.  Please change this, as only being able to "hide" a conversation leaves one with an ominous feeling of Big Brother is Watching You.
    Thank you.

  • Font conversion of symbols

Before purchasing I would like to know how the font conversion works and if there are further settings once purchased. In my free trial I converted a simple music chord chart (lyrics and chords only, not notation) and though it did a fair job of conversion, the flat signs were missing. I do have notation fonts installed on my PC and need to know if this can be set to recognize upon conversion or not. This would be my primary reason for even purchasing the converter being a worship leader and needing the flexibility to alter charts, etc.
Here is a sample of what it converted, though missing the flat sign after the 'E's: etc. (the cut/paste misaligned some placement, otherwise that wasn't too bad after conversion)
