Font conversion of symbols

Before purchasing I would like to know how the font conversion works and if there are further settings once purchased. In my free trial I converted a simple music chord chart (lyrics and chords only, not notation) and though it did a fair job of conversion, the flat signs were missing. I do have notation fonts installed on my PC and need to know if this can be set to recognize upon conversion or not. This would be my primary reason for even purchasing the converter being a worship leader and needing the flexibility to alter charts, etc.
Here is a sample of what it converted, though missing the flat sign after the 'E's: etc. (the cut/paste misaligned some placement, otherwise that wasn't too bad after conversion)

Could you try disabling the 'Recognize Text' function and converting your document again? I've seen mixed results in the past with converting guitar tab pages.  This has helped in some cases.

  • Creating a Form in PRO 9 not working. Fonts turn to Symbols

When I run the Form Wizard in Acrobat Pro 9 everything works normally until I save the form and open it again.
When I open the form after saving it all of my fonts convert to symbols [### @@>>]. I've opened the PDF in Readers 7, 8 and 9 AND when I open the very same PDF in PRO 9, I get the same symbols for fonts thing.
Has anyone else seen this or does anyone know if this is a bug or am I doing something wrong?
Just as a test I did not use form wizard and the form worked normally after saving... No symbols.

The form fields are empty but all of the text outside of the form fields change to symbols like [##@@!!--###%%].
This happens in Reader 7, 8 and 9.
And when I "re-open" the PDF in PRO 9.
First off Thanks guys for the help!!
I thought about the fonts not being embedded but shouldn't I receive an error message when I try to save it?
Also if I save the document as a plain PDF [not a form] it opens with normal fonts.
Also if I don't use the Form Wizard and just add the form fields manually then it works.
Thanks again guys for thinking about this and trying to help.

  • Conversion errors - symbols

    Hi all.
I have the Sony ereader, and wanted to sync my books from my sony library to my ipad. I converted the files from pdf to epub, and placed the book in itunes which synced successfully to my ipad.
When I open the book to read it, some of the symbols are jumbled or show a "?". For example don't came over as don?t. How do I prevent this? is it a font issue? Where can I fix this issue before sending to my ipad?
    I appreciate your help.
    Regards,
    Cassie

This is usually either a problem with default character set used for encoding by your converter or a failure of the converting app to "strip" the text of "special use" characters/tags before performing an actual conversion.
If your work flow does not allow you or the application you are using to properly pre-process the content prior to conversion, then your only option would be to manually correct the errors after conversion. In this case, what I might try would be to read the file in iBooks and annotate/bookmark all of the errors you wish to correct. Then, when finished, I might use the free Sigli editor application (reads HTML/XHTML or ePUB files) to correct all of the errors and then re-save the file as an ePUB for use by any compatible reader.

  • Macbook default font replaced by symbols

I dropped my 5 year old macbook pro recently, and immediately afterwards, all the default fonts on the menus, titles, etc. were changed to a 'block A' symbol. Whenever I right click, because my macbook wants to display the symbols instead of actual words, a blank menu shows up. However, the fonts are working regularly in whatever app I open up.
It's very odd, and I've already tried various fixes but none of them worked or followed through:
    Basic restart
    Resetting PRAM
Hardware Diagnostic (doesn't finish, just freezes halfway)
    Safe Mode/clearing caches

Thanks, Bee! But I just figured out that this problem is caused by disabling Georgia.
There are several fonts that most likely I will never use (e.g. fonts for other languages, symbols), so I went ahead and disabled them in FontBook when I got my computer. It just occurred to me, after starting this thread, to go back to FontBook to enable all fonts and go in batches to try to pinpoint the font causing the problem. And so I found it! I figured that since I'm using FontExplorer Pro now I can manage them directly from it and not thru FontBook anymore.
It was a painful task but it was worth doing it, knowing that many people can learn from my mistake.
Thanks for the hand once again!

  • Font Conversion issues from Word to PDF

I'm using Acrobat Pro 9 and Word 2007. My Word document has Heading styles with numbers, and a table of contents is built upon the styles. Every font is Arial. When I convert the Word document to PDF, the numbering all turns to Times New Roman, but the text remains Arial.  Help. How can I fix this?
    Linda

You were right, it was a Word numbering style issue. I have finally figured it out and it appears to be working correctly now.
    Thanks,

  • Frame to PDF font conversion broken in upgrade to Frame 10

I am using Adobe Garamond Pro font as body text.  In Frame 9, this worked fine, I was able to generate PDFs with correct text.  Now I have upgraded to Frame 10.  I generate the same file as PDF, and the body text looks good except for passages that have been marked as bold text.
Again, fine when the PDF was generated by Frame 9, but now the bold text is not correctly rendered.  Instead, I get an ugly monospaced, and very jammed-together, word.  Non bold text looks okay. Italic text looks okay.  But the bold text does not.
Any suggestions as to how can I fix this? I looked in the Frame10 fminit\fonts directory, and AGaramondPro-Bold.otf is there. In fact, the directory looks pretty much the same as the Frame9 version.

Okay, thanks. I think I have the problem solved, though I'm still not quite certain how it occurred.
To trouble shoot the Frame 10 problem, I opened up a file in Frame 9 (didn't uninstall it when I upgraded to 10, so I have both installed) and saved as PDF, with the same results, but with an error message that pointed me to the Adobe PDF printer, even though I don't explicitly point to it anywhere. The message said to de-select the option that says "use system fonts only" in the printer properties dialog.
When I did so, the problem went away.
Thing is, I never intentionally changed any of the Adobe PDF printer properties. It was working fine in both 9.0 and 10.0 Frame then all of a sudden the problem appeared out of the blue.
The only thing I can think of that changed between the time it worked and the time it failed is an upgrade from Acrobat to Acrobat X.

  • Font conversions to Powerpoint 08 from Keynote 09

I have a font called CAC Leslie that I am trying to bring in to a powerpoint presentation from keynote. When I export it out the font shows up on the powerpoint font list but the actual characters show as some type of sans serif font like arial or verdana. Is there any sort of plugin that can remedy this so the font shows as it should?

Is the PowerPoint presentation on the same machine, or a different one? Both PowerPoint and Keynote use the fonts that are on the presenting machine -- if the required font is not available, it is substituted. There is no plugin for either application that addresses this, as you simply need to have the required font installed.
As a workaround, you could make the text into a graphic in Keynote.

  • Font conversion error

I am trying to convert several reports from Report builder 3.0.x.xx to 9i and I am experiencing the following error. After successfully converting and compiling the report in 9i, I noticed that the fonts were not converted correctly(i.e. header) The fonts were changed to 2pt instead of maintaining the 12pt from the original file. Is there a way to convert the report and preserve the font size? This also happens when converting the reports in version 6.
    Thanks
    Jay

There is an environment variable to solve this issue: REPORTS_APPLYFONTSIZE.
You have to set this to a value like 10, 11, 12 etc depending on the value you wish to
set as the font size for the objects that have the problem. You should open the buggy report with the builder and
save the report. Now if you open the report again, you can observe that the items with the wrong font size will have
their font size set to that value. Once the problem is gone, the variable can be removed.
    Hope that helps

  • Help!  Fonts unreadable the Symbol A in a box!

All of the characters for fonts for icons are now the letter "A" in a box.
All drop down menus as well!
I'm suspecting this has something to do with a software update I was NOT supposed to do... I have a Mac Mini non-Intel.

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    For help with Fonts:
If fonts are not displayed as expected when you open documents or you cannot open documents, it's possible fonts have been corrupted. You can validate fonts to confirm they are still safe to use, and remove any corrupted fonts you find.
Take care not to remove system fonts, located in /System/Library/Fonts; removing system fonts could cause some applications to quit unexpectedly.
    To validate fonts:
Open Font Book and select one or more installed fonts to check.
    Choose File > Validate Font.
In the Font Validation window, review the fonts listed for warnings or errors. Use the pop-up menu to display warnings and errors separately, if necessary.
For fonts with warnings or errors, click the disclosure triangle next to the font to see which validation rules show errors.
To remove a corrupted font, click the checkbox next to the font. Make sure fonts you want to keep are not checked. Then click the Remove Checked button.
You can also use the Console utility to troubleshoot problems with installed fonts. In the console.log window, type "font" or a font name (such as "Arial") in the Filter field to find font-related log messages.
You can validate font files before installing the fonts. To do so, in Font Book choose File > Validate Files. Browse to and select a font file to validate and click Open. Font Book displays the Font Validation window and indicates whether it found problems with the font.

  • Font conversion

    Hi,
I developped an interactive form but I have a problem of layout.
My form (which is a legal form so I must keep the layout) use "ArialNarrow" as font.
When I display it in "Preview PDF" tab, everything is OK. But when I call my form in a report, the PDF file generated is not correct.
Fonts are converted in "MyriadPro" and so layout is incorrect (texts overwritten, text is out of window,...).
Does somebody could help me ?
    Thanks

    Hello Chintan ,
Sorry I couldn't respond to you earlier, was very busy.
I thought that the correct Context structure with correct cardinality and singleton can receive the data from the form. I'v tried the two advises I found on the SDN (see hyperlinks in the firs post).
Please provide some leads on this? Could you explain in some more details your suggestion about create the context dynamically in Web Dynpro, which Context structure I have to use.  It would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Helvetica Neue Pro -- Mac to PC font conversion (and vice versa)

I have a designer I exchange files with -- she's on a Mac, I'm on a PC (don't judge). Everything is seamless because we're both using Illustrator files created in CC. The one issue we're having is with fonts, specifically with Helvetica Neue Pro font family. They don't substitute automatically because the PC version names of that font family do not precisely match the names of her Mac Helvetica Neue Pro family. I have compatible (visually speaking) Helvetica Neue fonts (LT Std) that you can 'find and replace' each time either of us opens a file, but it's a pain. Is there a way around this without having to purchase the (very expensive) Helvetica Pro family OpenType fonts? And if I purchase that font family, will it even solve the problem? Or asked another way, is there a Helvetica Neue font family that is named the same in both PC and MAC versions?
Thanks for any advice or guidance.

  • Font conversion from MAC to PC

A INDESIGN document was created for me on a MAC. The file along with the fonts were sent over to me but the files containing the individual fonts used in the document had file sizes equalling zero. Is this because they were from a MAC? If this wasnt due to an error by the creator, is there a way to convert the fonts so that they open up properly when the document is launched?  I am now getting the MISSING FONTS box when I try to open the document.  Thanks for your input everyone.

A 0 filesize for a font is a good indicator for a Mac format font opened on a PC.  Nothing you can do with them on your end but substitute another font.
If you want to share files with Mac users you need to standardize on OpenType fonts, which are true cross-platform files, or on Windows flavored fonts. OS X can work with Windows TrueType installed inthe system fonts folder, and ID can use both Windows TrueType and Type1 Windows fonts loaded into the private InDesign or Common Adobe fonts folders.
Unfortunatley, old Mac fonts keep the actual font information in the resource fork which is totally invisible to Windows, so they don't work even in the private fonts folders on PC.

  • Unicode conversion causing OCRA, OCRB, and MICR lines to output as symbols

    Hi,
I am tesing the printing of SAPScript invoices in a Unicode converted sandbox copy of our production system. When viewing the OTF output of an invoice I noticed that the line for postal barcode using OCR-B font is producing # symbols instead of numbers reprsenting the postal zip code. This works in the Non-Unicode environment on our production server.
The printer is an HPLJ8150. The device type for the printer that is used for the invoice, is ZHP8150, which uses the base device type of HPLJ8000. The character set is 1116, which is ISO 8859-1.
Can anyone tell me how to go about correcting this problem?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi Nils,
Thank you for the information. I have created a new message in the Form Printing forum. Since this is something that was changed after the unicode conversion, I think I will leave this message open a little while longer incase someone who experienced this type of issue is looking in this forum.
Two things I should add. One, the font used for the device type is working in a Non-Unicode production system at this time. Two, the OTF output of the spool is not printed on our printer but is instead converted to XML and the resulting file is FTP'd to a third party for printing. So the zip code that is represented by the bar code font is just the numerical text that is in the OTF output which is sent in the XML file.
    Regards,
    Mark
