Font Creator utility in Illustrator?

I have a client that would like me to use a variation of Myriad somewhere between Regular and Semibold. I know that Illustrator used to have a built in MM editor and this support page(http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328600.html ) refers to "the Font Creator utility" as a solution. Where would I find this mystery utility?

MM fonts have been obsoleted by OpenType fonts (e.g. Minion as an MM is superceded by Minion Pro). See http://www.adobe.com/type/browser/mmoffer.html for the cross-ref. Of course, if you want a weight somewhere between the available Open Type fonts, you're stuck.
The ATM Light page http://www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/ indicates it supports MM fonts through at least OS X Classic on Mac; whether it works in Vista or Win 7 is not mentioned. It won't install 'out of the box' in Win 7 64-bit (I just tried it). ATM Deluxe supported MM fonts, but it's been out of support since about 2005.

Not all installed fonts are available in Illustrator CS4

Hi,
I've noticed that not all of my fonts are available in Illustrator CS4. My list appears as usual in the drop down menu, but many of my fonts have somehow become incomplete. For instance, only 3 weights of Helvetica are available, instead of the 20 or so I have installed on my Macbook Pro. I use Linotype Fontexplorer, and all of my fonts appear without problems in the browser window, but not in Illustrator.
I've deleted the Adobefontlist file with no result, and I've also tried uninstalling the fonts and reinstalling them with no result. I've had a few searches to see if anyone else has had the same problem, and some people have similar issues but not exactly the same. I've also tried some of the adobe troubleshooting steps with no result.
Any help with this would be gratefully received. Somebody must have experienced the same problem?

Thanks Jesseham, a good suggestion. All fonts within the families are ticked like you say, and I've just performed a clear out of the caches but still no success I'm afraid.
I've attached a picture of my font list in Illustrator in the hope that someone might see something that I'm not. As you can see from the list, Helvetica Neue LT Std is in the list as Helvetica Neue LT Std 85 Heavy and only has the option of 'Regular' under the font style drop down menu. It should be just Helvetica Neue LT Std in the font list drop down menu and have all of the available weights in the font style drop down menu.
Any thoughts?

Fonts not appearing in illustrator after installing

I am installing fonts in windows 7 by right clicking on the file and clicking install. After successfully installing the fonts, they aren't showing up in illustrator (or photoshop). I checked my windows font folder and the new fonts are indeed there. The newly installed fonts do work in other programs like Office. I am using CS3. Any ideas?

I remember fonts update inmediatly in Illustrator/photoshop as soon as you install it (at least in CS5 they do) but I'm unsure in CS3
Have you tried restarting Illustrator and see if the fonts are there? Also, could there be a chance that the fonts are corrupted or not supported by your version of Illustrator?

Well, something is corrupt. The problem remains even after signing on
as another user. Now, another machine (also a quad core G5) is having
the same problem. This second mac has not shared files with the first one. Sometimes the glyphs from the fonts are just not
there, and at other times they are replaced with symbols.
One can immediately view the pdf properly and without error by opening it
with Acrobat.
So this problem is intermittent (it goes away for a while after rebooting),
occurs whenever pdfs are viewed with Preview (e.g. from within Safari
or straight loadad into Preview). This is getting very very annoying.
I'm begining to think that only a total re-install will solve the problem,
but since it is now happening on a second machine, I'm worried that
something more insidious is happening.

I'm not 100% sure but i may have had flash open when installing, i then uninstalled the font and then reinstalled the font. I even tried going from an OTF font to a TTF font.
No luck.
Do I need to do some sort of font cache clearing?

Yes. It's rare, but some fonts do not play well with Flash. Flash seems to have a more strict method of evaluating a font that can be imported. This is, in my opinion, probably because Flash needs to create a faux version of a font when it is imported. There may be some information that is either missing or not acceptable to Flash in a particular font and so Flash won't allow it to be used - even if you're not going to import that font.

Now we want to display these text, using some bitmap fonts

We need a bitmap font creator, that can create such images,

Important is, that this creator should store description file

Win7 font manager utils and FM

Any recommendations for dealing with fonts on Win 7, or font manager utils that you particularly like, that presumably will play nice with FM and be considerate of some elderly Type 1 fonts too?
On a newly imaged system I just can't bring myself to dump fonts into the Windows/Fonts directory, it just goes sooooo far against the grain. I've tried, I really have tried. I just can't stand dumping all my prized fonts into the same directory as the 6-million-MSOffice-font-collection, it makes me crazy, I need more control. As far as I've been able to find out the only way to use separate directories is to use a manager util.
Also, about the Type 1 fonts, anybody tried creating PFMs using this:

Actually, you certainly can install fonts from private directories and not use a so-called “font manager.” Right-click the .PFM file wherever it is located and use the Install as shortcut option. This installs the font without moving the .PFM and .PFB files from where they are located. Of course, whatever directory those font files are actually should always be available (i.e., not on some external drive or network share).
The problem using “font managers” is that they often do not integrate will with Adobe software which effectively manages fonts internally. InDesign does provide an external hook for such third party “font managers” to work with InDesign (and its use of Adobe's internal CoolType module). I do not believe that FrameMaker provides any such support.
My personal recommendation is to avoid “font managers” like the plague, but to organize your fonts in a reasonable directory structure and install them via the Install as shortcut method.

Looking for help on good fonts to use in Illustrator

I am new to Adobe illustrator, sort of making a migration from Fireworks. Can some one give me recommendation on some of the best fonts to use in Adobe illustrator for designing fonts.I am working on a school project for designing Fonts for Computer programming course that i will be giving.

The fonts that come ( or used to anyways ) with CS apps ( goodies folder ) should give you plenty of decent fonts to get started with. Lengthy technical Whitepapers might look better using a serif font similar to Adobe Jenson Pro. Charts and graphs would look good using a sans serif like Myriad Pro. Subheads, heads, call-outs look good as Sans Serifs. Body copy reads better using serifs. You might take a look at other manuals similar to what you want to do and use them as a gauge for your manuals.

List all fonts used in the illustrator document

Hi All,
Having searched google I can't seem to find what I am after but am hoping someone here might be able to help me.
Due to a recent issue with a designer using a font that wasn't part of the brand guidelines for a particular company we would now like to list all fonts that are used in the illustrator file in a media panel on the document when it is sent for both internal and external approval.
I know that I can go to find font, save the list, open the document and then copy and paste that list in to a text box in Illustrator, however this is quite time consuming and a bit of a faff.
What I would like to know is:
1. Does such a plug in exist that will create a text box in illustrator and just list all the fonts automatically, ideally updating whenever fonts are changed?
2. If not does anyone have a script that I can run that will do the same thing and just drop a list of all fonts currently live in the document in to a text box?
I will have the same issue when working with Indesign documents to so if anyone one know the answers to the above but all related to indesign that would also be great!

If not, this would exclude colours on effects & overlays for symbols, found in kPluginArt (though there is a similar function for plugin art specifically) and I imagine text. Probably a few other types if we look hard enough. Granted, paths are probably 90% of colours :-) I also wondered (sinc I haven't tried it before) how comprehensive that method is -- does it hit all the colours in various effects & styles layered on path? Or does it just hit the standard stroke & fill? I assume not, but I don't know.

Arabic fonts not working in Illustrator CS4 on MacBook Pro

I have a bunch of Arabic fonts installed on my computer but can't use them on Illustrator.
For some reason, they are on my dropdown Font list but Illustrator is not letting me use them.
Arabic letters are meant to be connected to one another to form words and the fonts are not being applied correctly. The letters come out separated instead of connected.
Do I need to download something to be able to use them?

To be more precise what is required is the Illustrator ME or on of the Suites also the ME version, which is the Middle East version. Adobe designates the version using the intials ME.
That will work with both Arabic and Hebrew.
Otherwise you have to one type backwards and use tracking of a negative amount sufficient to have the letters touch and make a character style and apply it to all text you want arabic.
Best to have the ME version.

Fonts grayed out in Illustrator type palette - How do I fix this?

I had OS 10.9 and Illustrator worked with no problems. I have recently upgraded to OS 10.10 and I now experience grayed out fonts in the Illustrator Type Window which I don't experience in Photoshop. I have CS5.1 for Illustrator. Has anyone experienced this? If so, do you know how to fix it?

Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
