Font display problem in Safari....

Hi-I am sure that this has been discussed here....... Anyway, on some pages in Safari the fonts are weird-there are large spaces between the letters and lots of S's and random capitalizations. None of the letters form a word. Is there a fix for this? I sent a bug report to Apple. Thanks for any help! Judy

I decided to go through Font Book and I disabled lots of fonts but not any system fonts. I have come across a couple though that I don't know how to fix them. One is Courier-there is a yellow triangle next to it and it says that there are multiple copies installed-it instructs me to us the Resolve Duplicates command to automatically deactivate the copies not in use. I tried that but nothing is resolved-they are still marked with the yellow triangle (there are 2 Regulars and 2 Bolds, one Oblique and one Bold Oblique-only of the Regular and Bold are marked with a yellow triangle). So it's Courier, Apple Symbols that are like this. Since Resolve Duplicates didn't resolve anything I tried Validate Font-that worked until I shut down the Font Book and then they were back with the yellow triangles. Also in the window for Validate Font there are many 'things' listed under Apple Symbols.ttf: 'cmap' table usablilty, 'hmtx' table usability, etc. all the way down to Duplicate Fonts which has a yellow circle with an exclamation point next to it-says minor problem, proceed with caution. Courier has 'things' listed too under Validate Font-Duplicate Fonts under Courier and under Courier Bold both. Not sure what all that means and I don't know how to fix those things-there is no check box next to them. Any ideas? I probably have succeeded in confusing you! Judy

  • How to fix jaggy font display problem?

I upgraded to Snow Leopard from Leopard a few days ago and have been having font display problems ever since.
When I first upgraded, everything seemed fine, but then Word wouldn't display Arial. So, I validated fonts in Font Book and discovered a bunch of dupes. When I deactivated the dupes, that problem was resolved. But, a new problem occurred. Many of the fonts throughout various applications (Mail, Safari, Finder) appeared jaggy.
I tried playing with text smoothing and LCD font smoothing, but neither seemed to have much, if any, effect.
Then, I decided that I hadn't had a good font cleanup for several years, and maybe all the dupes and other detritus were part of the problem. So, I literally deleted all my  fonts from system/library, root/library and user/library (I copied some into a .zip archive for safe keeping) and reinstalled Snow Leopard and all current updates. Then, I fixed permissions twice (though there are always permissions that won't fix) and booted into single user and did an fsck.
But, after all that, my jaggy problem still persists
It's really strange in that it appears worse at some times. And, doesn't seem to be present in all apps. Here's a screenshot from YouTube with Safari on the left (bad jaggies) and Chrome on the right (no jaggies).
I'd really appreciate some help. Any ideas?

Start with something relatively simple, like clearing the font cache files.
Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and all user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.
This does not clear the font cache files for Word (Office), which keeps its own such items.
Close all Office applications. Remove the following files. The tilde (~) indicates your home account.
    ~/Library/Caches/com.microsoft.browserfont.cache
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office Font Cache (11)
For Office 2008, the location of the second item is:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2008/Office Font Cache (12)
For Office 2011, the location is:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/Office 2011/Office Font Cache

  • Font display problem after updating to 10.5.5

After updating to 10.5.5, I have an identical font problem on two different machines: an iMac and a Macbook. The problem concerns font display on the screen and only occurs when viewing PDF files using Leopard's built-in facilities. So the problem shows up in Preview and in Safari, but not when viewing the same file in Adobe Acrobat. (There's also no problem with the same font in MS Word.)
The problem: Many italic characters in Times New Roman Italic display with (more or less) vertical strokes are rendered very thin. The result is a bizarre, distracting effect. The result is particularly noticeable with lowercase "o", but is widespread. I don't have the same problem with plain Times. It's possible other fonts have this too -- I haven't checked them all -- but most don't.
The problem appears to be related to anti-aliasing. When I turn this off in Preview, the display is of course not pretty, but the problem is otherwise entirely gone. (Times New Roman text and Times text now look basically the same.)
I've tried obvious things along the way: reinstalling the font from the system disk, flushing the font cache, etc. even reinstalling the 10.5.5 combo update. Nothing helps.
    Any suggestions?
(Here is a PDF file on the web that has this problem for me -- in case you want to check whether you have it too: http://www.latrobe.edu.au/linguistics/LaTrobePapersinLinguistics/Vol%2009/07Popo vic.pdf. Nothing special about this file, though. Any PDF in Times New Roman with italics has the problem for me.)

Boy, I'm hoping Kurt will come in here,
but the page linked shows up perfect on my iMac.
I have yet to update to 10.5.5. I'm at 10.5.4.
But for you guys, what the h*ll?
I'll be back after I update.

  • Hotmail display problems in safari 5.0.6

I have had an msn email account for a long time. I have been able to acces it without any problems using Safari on my mac computers. A few days ago, when I access hotmail from the bing website, the display for the hotmail page is different. Everything is lined up on the left side and looks very generic. I can't access any of the folders, settings, emails.

interesting- we are on safari 6.0.2 and now we can't  access MSN.   on a macbook or on an IPAD.
first page comes up fine.  If you access another page and then come back to home, the url bar changes color for about an inch or so, then hangs up.
I have been thinking this was an ISP issue, but reading here is appears the Apple Microsoft stupidity is on again.

  • Appleworks 6/Font display problem in 10.6

Has anyone else struggled with the Menu WYSIWYG Font display scrolling so painfully slowly since loading 10.6.2 ?
It races as normal in 'names', but I need WYSIWYG when selecting .... now I may never see Zingbats again.
    Any suggestions ?
(I'm also placing this in the Appleworks Forum)

When AppleWorks behave slow or incorrectly there are some maintenance task to perform which usually does help.
Delete Recent items which you find in yourname > Documents > AppleWorks User Data > Starting Points > Recent Items
Delete com.apple.appleworks.plist found in yourname >Library>Preferences
While in Preferences Find the folder AppleWorks and delete the Appleworks preferences
Empty the trash and restart AW

  • Chinese font display problem

In the javascripts of this web site http://weiqi.sports.tom.com/php/zhuanti/zhuantinew.php?id=23
( follow any red link in this page, there will be a javascript popped up), some chinese characters can not be displayed in the right text box and no matter how many changes I make in the fontconfig.properties file about the Chinese font, there is no change of the chinese characters in these java script pages (in the right text box and on the lowerright buttons).
I want to change all the chinese font displayed on the javascripts to the font "ar pl shanheisun uni", how to? Thanks.
My system is Ubuntu 7.04, locale is zh_CN.UTF-8. Jre 1.6.0 or Jre 1.5.0.
I used another Redhat 9.0 system(Jre 1.5.0_02), it can display these characters in the another chinese font. That system is not configured by myself. So I think there must be some way to change these fonts.
    Here is my fontconfig.properties file:

Just installed Lion, and now the Fonts will not Load in safari, it is now displaying weird:
I continue to attempt things, including updateding the software (Font Agent Pro) i use to manage all my fonts (graphic designer i have a few), I've gone into apples native software FontBook and tryed to deactivate or activate fonts, but nothing seems to solve the problem. Crazy bit is that Firefox sems to be working fine.

Been struggling with this since upgrading to Lion.  Tried validating fonts, Onxy to clear caches, deleting Safari prefs, reboots.  Nothing worked, until I saw this solution:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15677158#15677158
I am indeed using the latest (Lion compatible) version of FontAgentPro.  Disabling all FAP fonts, then launching Safari has cured the problem for me.  Now just waiting for a FAP update.

  • Weird display problem in Safari

I've looked around for other topics on this and haven't found any yet, and to my disbelief, the folks at the local Apple store didn't have an answer for me as well. So here's to hoping to that someone here might have a suggestion.
I have two macs, a black macbook and a white imac - both are completely up to date. When I navigate to my website (www.nimbleslick.com) I am unable to see the dark grey boxes that surround the text on all of the pages within the site. I have tried calibrating the color on both computers, a million settings, and nothing seems to solve this problem. I have been unable to find another machine that displays the site as it does on my computers. While a minor problem, this is extremely frustrating and I can't help but wonder what else I may not be seeing when surfing the web. If anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it!
    Thank you!
    B

I can see the boxes, and I've checked with both Safari 3.1.2 and Safari 4.0.2. There must be something different about one of your Macs, even if you don't know what it is.
If these systems are identical in every other way and you have a full backup of each, I would suggest restoring the errant Mac with the backup from the Mac that seems to work the way you want and then check to see if the problem remains.

  • Tooltip display problems in Safari

I'm using Tooltips for and onscreen help. The page has a lot
of other spry elements in it, like multiple Collapsable Panels
& Tabbed Panels. I'm getting 2 different issues depending on
which version of the Tooltip I'm using.
Version 1.6: When the page loads, the Tooltips are all
showing and it blows out the formatting for the Collapsable Panels
(they no longer display where they are supposed to and are
elsewhere on the page.) If I collapse the panels then reopen them,
they go back to where they are supposed to. Also, when I mouse over
any of the help triggers, the Tooltip displays at the top of the
    screen despite the x & y offsets.
Version 1.5: The page loads completely fine. I don't have the
issues I do with v1.6 but I still get the Tooltips displaying at
the top of the screen and not where they are supposed to.
The Tooltips display fine in Firefox (mac & pc) &
IE7. I'm using Safari 3 on both mac & pc.
Any suggestions? Thanks and sorry for the long post.

so in your case most probably the issue is still there
because of the latest Tooltip issue we found.
Can you please save the file where you still reproduce the
problem and tested it again after the new Tooltip js file is pushed
on labs to see if the problem is still there?
Or if your page doesn't contain something private can you
give us a link to check it with the new js file?
    Thank you,
    Diana
    Hi Diana,
When i posted that reply i allready updated it with the
    latest version of the SpryTooltip.js.
(current version in the lab is still 0.4, and my file version
    is the same);
The url with a reproduction of the issue was allready posted
by me, but it might have been unclear. So here it is again.
I would say its becous of the offsetX: "8px",
offsetY:"-10px", that Safari doesnt get the top value passed true.
becouse the left position is fine, only the top is off.
I dont have any live html source checker for Safari, like
firebug for FF and web developertool bar for IE.
(i hear that the nightly builds have a inspect element
feature. so ill try that o.o)

  • Gmail display problems in safari

    hi all -
using a 2nd gen touch, v. 3.1.2. i'm having some problems displaying gmail and the main google page in safari -- problems in that they don't display at all. i can get to the login screen & log out from a search results screen, but i can't actually see my emails on screen.
a restore and resetting the ipod haven't solved the problems.
anyone here having any similar problems, or any suggestions for a fix?
    thanks.

i've done just that; it's definitely a workable solution.
the problems seem to be extending beyond gmail/google (honestly, that's the weirdest part to me: the google search page refuses to display) -- when i use en.m.wikipedia, the show/hide buttons for different sections of an entry no longer work.
i haven't tried a wikipedia app yet & will do so. all the same, it'd be nice to know why these things aren't working in safari anymore.
    thanks for your help.

  • Fonts display problem with Entourage

    Hello,
I am a new Mac user, having just migrated from Vista to iMac. I love my mac but I am experiencing a problem with how Entourage is displaying some of my emails.
They display as weird caracters and symbols, but not all of my email does this, just some. The individual characters display with "V' over some of them, and the sizes are all over the map and it is hard to read. However, if I copy and paste into another program, it displays normally. I'm stumped! I hope a more experience Mac user can help me with this.
    Cheers!
    ~Pauline

They display as weird caracters and symbols, but not all of my email does this, just some.
It's probably caused by a bad font. If you have Times Phonetic, get rid of it. Send me a screenshot if you want (tom at bluesky dot org).

  • Web Kit Font Display Problem with "BEBAS NEUE"?

Since today font "Bebas Neue" is not displayed correctly.
Online connection is ok. Font is displayed only when published.
    Thanks for help.

I tried that temporary solution but, in my design, I use boxes and triggers etc. and since the "replacement" font for the Bebas Neue is so different from the original, it somehow effected my design (white rectangles under the boxes).
The first image: Font uploaded manually, hence rendered as image, and the contour is not good. (Look at the letter A) (partial screenshot from browser)
The second image: The font is Bebas Web Font(!) in Adobe Muse (partial screenshot from adobe muse)
The third image: Font left as is; Bebas Web Font published as it is in the second image, displayed correctly as font BUT there is a white rectangle under the box. (partial screenshot from browser)
By the way I am using Macbook Pro, Mac OS X 10.9.2, Adobe Creative Cloud Single Edition (Muse CC v7.2 Build 232). Yesterday I worked with the same design without any problems. Nothing updated since then.

  • Unicode Khmer font display problems in FrameMaker 10?

How do I get Khmer OS or any unicode Khmer font to display properly in FrameMaker 10?
I am working with cambodian files in FrameMaker 10.
This is what it looks like in Word (this is how it should look)
This is how the same texk looks in FrameMaker 10...
The font is NiDA Chenla and I was able to fix this is ID CS5.5 by turning on the World-Composer.
Is there something similar in FrameMaker 10.

    Hi CTSRisk,
Probably spread and stretch option in Character designer might get if fixed for as i dont know the language,i am assuming the language is ok and the only problem is the spacing between them.
If yes, kindly goto character designer and change the spacing between them.
I apologize for the late response, however sometimes its not possible to answer on the forums quickly for us.
Let me know in case i understood the question wrong.
    Harpreet.
