Font download in IE

Hello,
i want to use Awesome Fonts in an intranet application.
In my company users don't have the permission to download fonts in IE.
This is a company policy and can't be changed.
Therefore my users only see blank boxes instead of the icons.
Is it possible to save the fontawesome-webfont.eot file to all users profiles or on a network share and let my application
use this file. Does this work and how?
Thank you.
Jürgen

Hi,
Your administrators CAN fine tune their GPO settings (intranet security zone template) and allow font downloads from an intranet domain. Sounds like your admin is pulling your chain.(don't want to, don't know how).
Make sure that your machine (on an administrator account) is using the default IE security zone settings for your company. Security tab of Internet Options>click "Reset all zones to default".

  • Font download not working in IE 10

    Hello!
We are building a product based on web tech (html, css, javascript). When our customers are running what we built in IE 10 they dont get the correct fonts or our icons that are font based. We can reproduce the error on our end by disabling font download
in IE, but the customer have this set to enable and it still does not work. Everything else renders fine. We have checked the different zones (internet, intranet) and all have it enabled. Looking at the traffic, we can see that our resources are downloaded.
Running in for example Chrome it works for them.
Is there anymore settings they can change?
    Best regards,

    Hello Micke.
Here's a very recent msdn thread which discusses a problem displaying downloadable fonts with IE10.  I replied there, so it is fresh in my memory.  Actually, that thread seems somehow incomplete.  I was watching for continued discussion
    there.
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/f28056a4-765c-4db2-ae1e-1d10a790ca71/ie-1011-open-sans-font-issue
In the example given there, the <option> dropdown incorrectly applies a the failover font, whereas its parent <select> uses the specified font.  I had experimented with it last week, and found that consistent (mis)behavior when the font-family
is given in a url.  Even in an embedded data url.
The following demo contains an embedded copy of the Open Sans font discussed in that thread.  It is encoded as a base64 data url.  The css entry also specifies Segoe Script at the end, as a failover.  Try viewing this with IE10 and see what
happens.  Then compare with IE11, where the problem is fixed.

I see you identified IE10 as having this problem, as in the link above.  Were you able to isolate the problem to a particular type of html element?

never mind... download must have been corrupt. re-downloading it seems to have fixed the problem.

  • Font download question

I've just downloaded Futura Light and have CS3.  After it's placed in the Library/Fonts folder Illustrator doesn't recognize it. (It's a .sit file)
I'm wondering if this was meant for a later version of Adobe Suite.
Can you tell me what I might be doing wrong?

    Moving to Adobe type.

  • Is there a Symbol Font download available?

I am using InDesign CS6 and have been having issues with my Symbol fonts. First, InDesign automatically substitutes Symbol TT for all symbol fonts, but this does not translate correctly, particularly with Greek glyphs. I have downloaded an OTF symbol font, along with Symbol Lt Book and Symbol Lt Medium. The Symbol OTF, generally, converts glyphs correctly; however, it is only available in a regular style (no bold or italic). I have been trying to use the Symbol Lt fonts for the bold and italic, but these convert the same way Symbol TT converts. I have also been having conversion problems with math symbols. I work with a variety of documents that include a wide range of symbols (with thousands of pages in each document), so I cannot simply replace each and every glyph. I need a solution! Is there a font package specifically for InDesign that I can download from Adobe to solve this issue?

Have you tried Segoe UI Symbol?

  • Where is the font downloaded?

I know this is a dumb question, but the font I just bought isn't in my download folder.  I can't find it by doing a search on the font name, and the receipt doesn't tell me where it went.

if you are using linux machine
then there would be a ".javaws" directory created in your home dir or the place where you installed jws. the down loaded files are kept in the cache dir under the .javaws dir.
if you are running on some other platform there would be something similar. you can start the javaws form command line go file/preference open the preference .. there you will see a tab named as 'advanced' on that tab you can see the dir location for - Application folder.

  • Typekit not allowing font download

I have 2 seats signed up to Creative Cloud and both have use of Typekit but only one allows for download of fonts the other seat does not have this facility - any reason why this should be?

    Hello insigniacreative,
Thanks for your interest in the new font sync feature!  Desktop sync is being rolled out to users, so not all accounts have access to it yet.  The user who doesn't have sync enable can sign up here:
    https://creative.adobe.com/earlyaccess.
You can also read more about on the Typekit blog, if you are interested:
    http://blog.typekit.com/2013/08/08/sign-up-for-early-access-to-desktop-font-sync/
The Creative Cloud team is adding new users all the time. You'll get an email when sync fonts have been enabled on your account, with instructions on how to get started.
If you have any questions or problems, please send your Creative Cloud Adobe IDs to [email protected], so we can take a look at the accounts.  Thanks!

  • Apple Myriad Font Download

Hello everyone. I would like to download and use the Apple Myriad font in a Pages document. Does anyone know how I can download this?
    Thanks,
    Vikram

There are four places fonts are stored in Mac OS X. The two you mentioned and
Fonts required by Mac OS X to startup:
    /System/Library/Fonts
    For Mac OS 9/Classic:
    /System Folder/Fonts
Fonts could be stored in any one of those four locations.

Recently downloaded new font file from Adobe.

  • Auto Font Download

    Hey there,
how can I get a user to download custom fonts automatically
so the sites i build look better using custom fonts?
    Thanks

It just can't happen. Sorry. Your only options are -
    1. Use a graphic (obviously not suitable for all content)
    2. Use an image replacement method like sIFR (again,
    obviously not suitable
    for content)
    3. Nut it out with the 'web safe' set of font families

  • Font downloaded to the Library in MAC cannot be found in my Illustrator CS5 fonts. PLease HELP!

I have added my fonts to the library in mac MAC. That was easy, but the funny or not so funny thing is, I cant find them in Illustrator.
    Thanks in advance

There is more than one library folder on the mac, so the specific location may help troubelshoot this.
In you applications folder is fontbook, which is an easy to use drag and drop application for managing your fonts. If you enabled the font there, and it still does not show up in Illustrator you have a technical problem.
You can do a find for all .lst files on your computer and delete them. This will flush out your font database cache which can occasionally get corrupted.
The other reason you may not see the font is if you have a FOND ID conflict. This usually occurs when you load lots of fonts, as eventually you run into 2 fonts that have the same FOND ID number.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer Not Saving Downloaded Fonts

    Hi,
we have recently purchased an HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401a Laser Printer which needs to be used with a system that downloads fonts for correct style printouts. The problem I am having is the fonts download initially which is great, but they are not saved by the printer after 1 printout so the user is having to download the fonts everytime she wants to print something.
All other printers in the office are HP2055 and work as expected saving the fonts after the initial download. I have asked the support team of the application to have a look at the situation and they say everything is setup correctly so it may be an issue with the printer. Printer is installed on a Windows XP SP3 PC.
    Firware version: 20121205 (15 Dec 2012)
    Driver Version: 61.140.04.14138 (1 Jan 2013)
Any help would be appeciated, thanks.
    Robert

If the downloaded soft fonts are definitely not being saved (despite the download presumably terminating with a 'make soft font permanent' escape sequence), then the problem must lie in the firmware - and the only resolution is if HP releases  a new version with a fix.
To be certain about which PCL5 fonts are resident in the printer, you have presumably printed off a  'PCL5 Typeface List' via the relevant front panel menu (assuming this printer has one).
Or you could send the following direct to the printer to invoke that report:
<Esc>%-12345X@PJL COMMENT Print PCL Font List
    @PJL DMINFO ASCIIHEX = "040004010105020402015E"
    <Esc>%-12345X
where <Esc> represents the non-graphic) Escape control-code character (the character with decimal code 27, or hexadecimal 1B), and each PJL statement is terminated with a LineFeed control-code (decimal 10, hexadecimal 0A).
Assuming that the printer is USB-connected, you could send the contents of the file (name, say, testfile.prn) holding the above to the printer using the copy command in a command-prompt session:
    copy /b testfile.prn \\computer-name\share-name
     where:
computer-name is the name of the host workstation
share-name is a share name of the installed Windows printer instance.
I don't have access to your model of printer, but I do use a LaserJet Pro 400 Colour MFP 475dn (MFP equivalent of M451 printer), and this does appear to retain downloaded 'permanent' soft fonts - but only until the device goes into 'sleep' mode!
So it is probably a common 'fault' (or 'design decision'?) across this family (LJ Pro 400) of printers.

  • Allow Fonts from Download

I opened a Captivate 6 project on a new machine and it asked me if I wanted to allow certain fonts downloaded from the internet. I accidently hit "no" and now my project is not displaying the fonts I used. How can I change this setting to allow usage of this font I need?

I am running the default Apache bundled with FMS. In the fms.conf file, I am able to change the LIVE_DIR variable to reflect the location of the directory whose contents I would like to expose:
    LIVE_DIR = <FMS_Installation_Dir>/applications/myapp/streams/_definst_
Should this make the files at:
    http://<ip address>/applications/myapp/streams/_definst_
accessible?  It doesn't appear that I'm able to see these files.

  • Downloading printer fonts the new way

I work with a publishing company that has used an old PowerMac with 8.6 to manually download fonts to the printer in order to print complex yellow page files. They'd like to transition this process to their newer OS X 10.3 systems. Is there any way this can be done manually - they've been using the old Font Downloader. It works, but it takes a while.

Your problem may not be exactly the same as that of the original poster of this old thread, and it can be very confusing for everybody if we try to answer more than one question in each thread.
In order for us to give your problem our undivided attention to try to solve it, would you kindly start your own thread, describing the trouble you are having in the fullest detail (your post makes little sense), including completing your details to show what Mac you are using, what operating system, and what version of the application in question. Please remember to post in the forum relevant to your hardware or version of OS X.

  • New fonts look fine in Font Book don't work in apps

I need someone's help. I understand that to install new fonts I can either bring them into my font book (and chose whether they apply to a user or to the system) or can drag them directly into library/fonts or user/library/fonts. I am looking for some new foreign language fonts (e.g. hebrew - cursive, for example). I found some possibilities - ttf fonts - downloaded them, put them into my font book, they validated fine and within the font book they look right (i.e. as they are supposed to). I then quit the font book and go into my app, and it's not happening. When I go into MS word (2008), they don't all appear in the various menus (e.g. I made a font collection for one set, and only two appear in that collection), and when I go to use the ones that appear the font does not look much different from the latin alphabet font that was there before. So, I then tried Apple Mail and, while all the fonts appear in the font collection folder, when I choose any of them, same thing, my test letters are still in the same alphabet - size and intensity a little different, that's all.
Someone told me that for MS Office that there is a separate folder somewhere for office fonts - is that true - where is that? Also, why aren't any of my fonts doing what they're supposed to do in a native Mac application, Apple Mail, despite the fact that they look as advertised in my font books?
    Frustrated & confused...

my test letters are still in the same alphabet
To generate non-Latin text in a modern OS you can't just change the font, you need to change the keyboard layout. Go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the box for Hebrew or whatever you want, plus the box for "show input menu in finder." Then select Hebrew in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and type.
You need to make sure you use Unicode fonts. Also MS Word does not yet support correct Hebrew, so use another app. For that script, Mellel is the best. See the applications section of this note:
