Font Drop Down behavior CS3-5 vs CS6

Can anyone help, i have searched and searched. It used to be in all previous versions that when you have a font, say helvetica LT, that you are using in a document and you wanted to use say a different version of helvetica. You could click the the arrow for the drop down on the font name and you would be in the H's, highlighted on the font you were using. Now, its just top of the list, A's. You can use the arrow keys to go back and forth and cycle through the fonts but this is is in both ways a travesty to efficiency and workflow and everyone is used to it. Despite looking, we cant find a way to change this setting of behavior. Can you help, its very appreciated!

We're a print shop. One that specializes in on demand, drop ship fullfillment. I dont need to pay for the ability to make apps, etc and I certainly dont see how telling my clients, who could care less, that they are paying more so I can develop products they dont want to buy and they dont need is going to accomplish anything when I have to raise my price.
My primary reason for actively voicing these feelings is so Adobe sees them. I hope Adobe goes outside its forums and looks into this and reads its emails. I think plenty are not happy.
Look, I like Adobe, really, but not at ANY cost. i dont love ANY product at ANY cost. Adobe will hopefully learn that lesson like many companies before it who have tried similar things or tried to stick to similar concepts. Per minute internet comes to mind, heck even per minute phones which is a dying concept and i think eventually this attempted return to charging by bandwidth, and these things I mention are like this because THEY are finite resources and have some scarcity in some manner. Adobe, really isnt and any scarcity it has is going to be artificial.
I've seen them come and go so many times and I always hear these arguments. I worked with a guy once long ago who said Quark would never be replaced as the standard. I knew a guy who worked in one of their fulfillment centers and he told me, they knew about the things the customers didnt like but they thought they were above it. They openly talked about it. Corel, etc. Dont get me wrong. I'm super happy we arent waxing clipart to be exposed and then stripped in to large format film anymore, but Adobe is not the only option, period.
As to the original discussion:
I guess i wouldnt say they broke it, but it does feel a bit like blackmail. Well, we have it, but only over here for more money, even though it was standard before. What gets me, is they didnt make it an either or option, they just trashed the other way, and that just seems like either lazy or indifferent product design. Either way... we pay... and then pay again, and apparently pay again and so on.

Font drop down menu won't stay open in Photoshop Elements 8

I have Photoshop Elements 8. Up until today it worked just fine. I have been trying to change the font type using the drop down menu of course. Every time I click on the drop down menu it tries to open, but will not stay open to make the change. The menu just flickers in the attempt to open it up.
I have reset the tool, deleted any preferences at start up using the Ctrl+Alt+sSiht keys and no help.
I am using a Windows 7 64bit system. Like I said, this hasn’t happen before. Now that I think about it, sometimes when a menu box is open it will disappear behind the main window and I need to find it again by toggling the window, this will make the change menu to reappear. But still no font drop down menu.
Anybody have any help?

If photodrawken's suggestion doesn't make any difference, which was my first thought on the problem, here are a couple of other suggestions.
You might have a bad font. Have you installed any fonts or programs that might have put in new fonts recently?
In pse 8 under Edit>Preferences>Type uncheck Font Preview Size and see if that makes a difference.
Also this lists a fix for missing scroll bars in pse 8 and even though that's not your exact problem it would be worth a try:

How do I reset the font drop-down menu?

In the font drop-down menu, all used fonts are listed on top of the rest. Now I got a long pile of used fonts, but only two fonts among them are most frequently used, and I want to keep only these two on top of the drop-down menu. How do I reset the list (clear the history)? Thanks.

Mine shows only the last 6 used fonts. Note that you can option click the fonts drop down menu to show them only by name, without their preview, thus saving you some space.

Hello,
I am having an issue with the drop-down menu in the Property
inspector panel that I can't figure out.
I searched the forum and found 1 related topic, but it
doesn't answer the question that I have.
I am currently reading a book on Dreamweaver. In the lesson
that I have it says to choose the size 24 from the drop-down menu
in the Properties panel, but there isn't a size 24. All I see is 1
to 7, +1 to +7 and -1 to -7.
In the topic that I found in the forum is a picture of two
different views of the font sizes:

How do you change which way Dreamweaver displays this list?
I am currently using version CS3 for Windows on Vista.

Now look at the Size field in the Property inspector.

Is there a way to see the actual fonts in the "choose a font" drop-down list of a message window?

When selecting a font for a message in Thunderbird, the only way I can find to see what the font looks like is to actually change the font of text I've already written. To try more than a few fonts at random would be a sheer waste of time.
I'm using an older version of MS Word, which has the option of allowing the user to see the actual fonts displayed in the font selection drop-down list.
Is there any way to set up Thunderbird to do this?

Font not found when opening file and not able to resolve, but is listed in the fonts drop down list?

Hi, i just downloaded some files from a friend and he sent me a link to download the fonts. I did so and 98% of the fonts work, but there are two fonts i am struggling with.
When i open the file i get the font missing warning and it asks me to resolve the fonts. I cannot find the appropriate font in the drop down list so i click 'don't resolve' and start to edit the file. i then come across some text that has missing fonts and i am able to highlight the text and change the text to the appropriate font using the type tool and the font I am looking for is in the drop down list.
The fonts that aren't working are:
Franchise Bold and BebasNeue
The problem is there are multiple separate incidents where these fonts occur, and going through changing each one manually would take a lot of time.
Is there something i can do to fix them all at once?

Can't find "structure" on drop-down menu on insert tab (CS6).

One of your tutorials (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/first_website_pt2.html) says "
The Structure category contains all the grouping and structural elements necessary to build the framework for a web page. Click the first option, Div (see Figure 7).
But there is no Structure category, nor is there a header element anywhere to be found. (Is "head" the same as "header"? How is a new user to know?)
On forums I was told to update DW and I did., but the About still says 12.0 Build 5861. But your Help>Update tells me I have the latest version, even if it's the same one I had before which was old. I'm not sure how to proceed on this one.

The article refers to the 'Structure' tab of the Insert Menu in DW CC and is related to HTML5 elements.
In DW CS6 version 12.2 Build 6006, you will find the elements in the 'Layout' tab

My font menu does not want to drop down, not even in caracters? is it because i have to many fonts? Beacause it use to always work. Can i change it back?

Everytime i click on my type drop down bar, nothing wants to drop down, so this leaves me to use my arrow keys to look for a font and this takes forever. Not even in the caracter bar the fonts drops down? how come is this happening? Is it because of to many font?

It may be time for the list of things to try to uncorrupt things.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Foreign fonts display in character drop down menu

When designing a sign for a customer, I take a photo of the existing signs, place on a new document in illustrator cs6, type text then scroll through the text character drop down menu to match the new sign text to the font that is currently on the customers signs, business card etc.
There are many different types of fonts and I would prefer not to have the adobe system fonts, asian, arabic and other fonts that are not used for my purposes.
Is there a way to remove them from this list.
I have tried deleteing them from the window 7 font manager but they are essential system fonts and it displays a message that some programes will not work if I delete them.
I have tried show/hide in the windows 7 font manager but this has no effect on the fonts displayed in illustrator.
Any help would be appreciated.

Seems windows 7 fonts can be set to show/hide for some programs but it does not work in illustrator. I have found a helpful program by Adobe Air called Font Picker which displays only the fonts installed and excludes hidden fonts (windows 7 font manager).
It would be good to have a search facility that has fonts catagorised. There are a few out there where you can tag them but I don't see myself sitting through 35000+ fonts I have collected over the years.
I did install Illustrator CC which has a few added options under the character font drop down menu. It also has a link to Typekit on Adobe Cloud but would you believe it didn't have Calligri which is a very common script font.
Has anyone on this forum found a solution to this before. There are may questions related to this on the web but no answers or feed back.

Your CS6 must have been purchased as an upgrade. What it is asking you to select/provide is the name/serial number of the previous version you purchased that qualifies you to install and activate the CS6 upgrade version... this would be likely be one of CS3 thru CS5.5.

Text Tool Drop-Down Font Menu can't be opened in PSE 9 & 10.

Hi all, in PSE 9 and 10 I can't get the Font Drop-Down Menu to work. It is stuck on one Font. When I hit the drop-down arrow there is a flash of the menu but it wont stay on screen so as to allow me to make a selection of a different Font. How do I correct this problem? TIA, Ed Weidman

You need to use the optimizer to set the version you want the pdf to be saved as.

Getting fonts to display in drop down menu

Is there any way to set it up so my fonts will be displayed graphically in the font drop down menus of different appllications? I know I can see what the fonts look like in Font Book, but I want to see them in the drop down menu from within whatever application I am using.
I would have thought that would be a preference that could be set within individual applications, although I have yet to find that as something to be able to set up. I'm still looking, though.

It's the wysiwyg in Office that made me want to see if I can get the same with everything. I actually use AppleWorks more than Word, and it's a pain to have to try to remember what a font looks like.
I think Font Book might be the ticket, but I'm leery of installing it because of something called "Application Enhancer" that gets installed with it. It installs executable code, which is probably ok, but ...

Some font weights don't show up in Illustrator drop-down menu

This problem is happening with more than one font (on a Mac, OS10.6.6, CS5), but as an example:
I have the Futura font family, all weights from Light to Extra Bold Oblique, in my Fonts folder in my Home Library folder. When I select type, and choose Futura in the Font drop-down menu, only 4 weights of the font appear in the drop-down sub-menu, rather than all of those installed....

I have the very same problem. Though, it also occurs after logging out and back in.
To clarify, "Front Window" and "Menu Bar" speakable items don't show up after login, even though they are selected in the Speech Preferences. Toggling Speakable Items off/on will make them appear. However, they are suppose be available immediately.
How to test it out:
1. Go to the Speech Preferences in System Preferences.
2. Within the Speech Recognition tab, choose the Commands tab and select "Menu Bar" and "Front Window". I have selected all command sets in that list.
3. Turn on Speakable Items.
4. In the round Speech Feedback window that appears, there is a button at the bottom with a triangle pointing down. This is its menu. You can open the Speech Commands window from this menu and see a list of command sets, such as "Speakable Items", "Application Switching", "Address Book", and so on. In particular, there should be "Front Window" and "Menu Bar" since they have been selected in Speech Preferences.
5. Logout.
6. Login.
7. The Speech Feedback window should appear after login. You might also have the Speech Commands window if you didn't close it before logout. If not, then open the Speech Commands window from the menu on the Speech Feedback window.
8. Notice the command sets for "Front Window" and "Menu Bar" do not appear in the listing.
9. Open Speech Preferences in System preferences. Choose the Speech Recognition tab, and then the Commands tab within that, if not already chosen. Notice the "Front Window" and "Menu Bar" command sets are selected even though they did not appear in the Speech Commands Window.
10. Perform the workaround: toggle Speakable Items off/on. Notice the "Front Window" and "Menu Bar" commands will now show up in the Speech Commands window.
11. Feel free to repeat steps 5 - 10 as often as you like. sigh 8-|

Spacing in drop down menu

I have made a drop down navigation menu in dreamweaver cs6 but I would like to shrink some of the spacing between the menu opinions. The places marked in red is what I would like to shrink so there is less space between the text and next navigation button. Thanks in advance. I hope I explained my problem clear enough.

Illustrator crashing every time I open drop down FONT menu

Every time I open my drop down font menu in illustrator it crashes immediately. It is doing this without fail every single time. As long as I don't go into Fonts, it does not crash. But I need to change my font!!!
