Font Explorer alternative for PC?

Is there a Font Explorer alternative for the PC? Yes, I know Linotype made a beta version of Font Explorer for the PC that they never finalized - its useless. Anybody have any preferably free font library programs for the PC? Thanks.

I have tried several fontmanagers for pc and I ended up with Bitstream Font Navigator. It works fast and well.
It is part of the CorelDraw Graphics Suite and it supports Postscript Type, Open type and Truetype.

Possible conflict - font explorer pro

I've experienced a couple CS4 PS crashes and was not able to force quit or restart PS (error 600).
I started shutting down all of the open applications and when I quit Font Explorer Pro, PS shut down fully. And then I was able to restart PS.
I'm removing the Font Explorer plugin for a while.
Anyone else experiencing issues with Font Explorer Pro 2.0.1 ?

I have been waiting to hear reports before I switched to the paid version. The free version works so well. Linotype has been bought by Monotype I believe. Probably in the end enough people didn't use the "Store" option so they realized they didn't have an lTunes on their hands - therefore the charge.
Auto-activation in PS has always been flaky - most of the time it doesn't work and then - boom. Sorry I don't have a solution for you - I manage fonts the old way in PS and let the plugins do their work in Illy and ID.
I sent an email to them about the Server product and the first answer I got back was about $4000 with a yearly fee. They bundled the Monotype library with the server (I don't need more fonts, and if I did I wouldn't buy a library - I prefer to be more selective). Ridiculous. I just got an email that they changed the pricing to $2100 and the library is no longer bundled. Still not interested.

Font Book Vs. Font Explorer

Hi all I have for some time found a simple pleasure in downloading and collecting fonts, don't ask me why I find it relaxing, I don't know
I was wondering what other people thought of LinoType's Font Explorer as an alternative to Apple's Font Book.
Personally I find that Font Book can become tedious, especially when dealing with font duplicates.
Recently i've discovered Font Explorer by LinoType, I find it so much easier to use and a lot better for font management.
what are your thoughts?

I downloaded font explorer and it is great, better than suitcase as well. Very organized, the conflict feature is great as well, shows you all the duplicates and fonts that are either missing a printer or screen file and marks them in red. As you put your fonts into your user font folder just hit refresh in FE X and it sees them instantly, same with deleting them.

How do I deactivate fonts? (Font Agent Pro or Font Explorer)

I purchased Font Agent Pro (3.3.2) and have tried Font Explorer X (1.2.2) and don't know what I am doing wrong--even when I ask them to deactivate all fonts it still looks like all fonts are active in application font menus.
I've had FAP installed for a couple years and have been living with the problem but I would like to get it solved as it is very tedious to scroll through hundreds of fonts to look for what I want.
Font Explorer reported that I had 2400 active fonts. I told it to disable everything it would, now it says there are 376 active fonts, but fonts that are listed as inactive are still available.
What do I do?

Since neither are Apple products, you'd be better off contacting Insider support for your Font Agent issues.

Help! CS3 crashing at launch...Font Explorer X installed

I have gotten myself into a bad situation!
I am on an Intel Mac Book Pro, running 10.4.11 and CS3. I downloaded Linotype Font Explorer X 1.2.3. I got that going, everything was running pretty smoothly.
Until I did a little reading, and was lead to believe it was a good idea to have Font Explorer manage everything, system fonts and all. Also to have it clean out font caches, and everything. Mistake. After that, Indesign crashed ... and will not launch at all! As well as Illustrator and Acrobat.
After all that I read to NEVER let Font Explorer manage or clean anything. I have tried reinstalling CS3 a few times, resetting permissions, etc. I am pretty much freaked out at this point. I don't want to have to clean install the OS.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Words of wisdom? All I wanted was for the fonts to load, and to do my work. And I have so much work to do!

I have FE manage my System fonts without issues. I have removed all instances of the dfonts, Helvetica, Times, and Zapf Dingbats from my system fonts folder tho, and instead keep at least one version of those fonts active at all times using FE. My guess is a corrupt font cache. Clean it, using FE's tools and see it that helps. Good idea to run the conflict troubleshooter as well.
Where did you read to never let FE clean or manage anything? Whoever posted that is giving out bad info IMO.

Once the fonts have synced to your Creative Cloud account, they will automatically be added to the font menus in all of your desktop applications, including Pages, Keynote, and Numbers.
Typekit fonts are not added to your font management software, however; you'll manage these font selections directly from the "synced fonts" page in your Typekit account.

Best font management solution for CS6/InDesign?

I recently upgraded to CS6. (OS 10.6.8). I'm finding that InDesign is extremely slow and wondering if it might have to do with font management. I have a LOT of fonts on my machine. I was using Suitcase previously. Do I need to continue with that? I'd appreciate any advice about best practices for organizing fonts and/or suggestions for font management software.

Must say its Font Explorer Pro (FEP) for me! (MacPro OSX 10.6.8 Indesign Creative Suite 4, Indesign 5.5)
When I first started this job they had suitcase and I found that program really limiting. But I also had never used it before and knew very little about it.
FEP has many things that I like about it.
1. Although most people lean away from font auto activation the one that comes with FEP has been working real smooth, a few second delay when opening files while it starts what font is required.
2. Font Preview is amazing, select the fonts you want to compare with a typeface you have and you have transparent view and slide show.
3. Font Groups: Where you can put all fonts for particular jobs into smart sets.
4. Search files and discover which fonts where used inside that file and save that as a font set
5. There is also a server version of the program.
6. Application Sets: Really handy for auto activating fonts used only in certain programs.
7. Good Conflict control.
The list could possibly go on and on, in other words, love FEP and highly recommend it.

Font explorer opens everytime I open a Photoshop file?

Has anyone had this annoying problem and how did you fix it?

For others having this problem. It seems like it has something to do with the Photoshop Plugin in the Font Explorer! I deactivated it and I don't have this problem anymore. Prettysure I have to restart photoshop now everytime I activate a new font, but it's less painful than launching Font Explorer everytime I open a document!

Linotype Font Explorer X issue

Does anyone know the reason why Font Explorer X would activate all 5000 stored fonts whenever my imac is restarted. I only keep a handful of fonts activated at any given time, however when i shutdown or restart the program activates them all...what am i missing?

Even Font Explorer 4.0.2 does not update its internal font database for all the updated Mavericks fonts in System and User libraries. So when you tell it to clean the System fonts it removes all the updated new fonts leaving only the few 10.8 system fonts that were not changed. The 4.0.2 update removes the "clean system fonts" command to prevent users from shooting themselves in the foot.
I haven't been able to find a way to update the FEX database so it will display the correct version numbers and other info for all the updated fonts (new ones are shown correctly). I have sent several emails to Linotype concerning this problem and received only an email advising me to download the 4.0.2 update which does not correct the problem. As far as I know, the only way to correct the problem is to completely uninstall FEX and reinstall it. But, of course, that will wipe out all the fonts you have added, your font sets and any additional comments or custom classifications that you've added. That's a non-starter for me with 10K fonts in my library.
I've asked the FEX people to add a new function similar to the "Remove from FEX" that would "update font datablase" for one or more selected fonts. FEX won't permit you to delete a system font from FEX and then re-import it as you could do if you updated a font file not contained in the two system font folders. I haven't heard back from them...

Problems with Font explorer connecting ,as well as font book.

I restarted my computer mac osx10.7.5 and when I did the font explorer 3 and the fonts won't connect, Font explorer pro is also telling me that the fonts are unavailable, no even my finder can't find any files although I know I have them. Any help please.

If you have a look in the Format bar you will see that Strikethrough is a Character Style.
A Character Style may (not always) have font styling with it.
I have tested both Export to .doc and .docx, and open both in Word for Mac.
The formatting is as in Pages. The strikethrough exists in Word.
I used Pages 5.1 running on Mavericks OSX 10.9.1.

[Solved]Process Explorer alternative?

Hello,
If you've used windows seriously, you've no doubt used the excellent sysinternal's Process Explorer. What are the alternative for Arch (with xfce4 if it matters)?
I'm aware of ps and top commands, but I'm looking for GUI with tray icon that represent CPU/RAM/etc usage much like windows Task Manager.

What is the alternative for DisplayMemberPath="Value" for Windows Store applications?

I think there is a bug with Windows Store Applications when it comes to using DisplayMemberPath="Value".

If you use this code in WPF in works perfectly. However if you use this code in a Windows Store Application then the Combo Box is empty and an error is thrown. So is there an alternative way to do this in Windows Store Applications and have I unearthed a
bug? Because I have researched the Web for days and found no solution to this.*please do not comment unless you have tried my code as a Windows Store App not a WPF in Visual Studios. Can Someone post an example based on my code that works in Windows Store

How to change fonts in iTunes for Windows?

Typeface in bold type is difficult to read and I want to change it. I looked everywhere online and could not find a simple solution, but then found one myself which seems to work. I have iTunes 10 and Windows Vista.
For some reason there's a conflict or problem with the Helvetica fonts.
Go to the folder C:windows/fonts. Wait for full font list to load, then sort in alphabetical order. Minimise that window, then open another Windows folder and navigate to a folder where you know you won't accidentally delete a folder. (I have a folder named "Keep" that I never move or delete to store important stuff). Create a new folder in that folder (organise>new folder) and name it Helvetica fonts.
Restore the Fonts window you minimised, then locate all Helvetica fonts you have (they should all be together if you sorted alphabetically). Select all Helvetica fonts and click and drag across to the Helvetica fonts file. You may be asked to confirm permission to do this. Confirm that all Helvetica fonts are in the new folder then close that window.
Return to the Fonts window and delete the selected Helvetica fonts. You will be asked for permission and get several pop up windows checking you really want to do this. **For some reason I was not able to delete Helvetica bold but the fix still worked.
When all Helvetica fonts are deleted (except for ** above if you had that problem too), then go to File>Install New Font at the top of the Fonts folder window. Navigate using the drop down box to find the folder where you saved the Helvetica fonts. The Helvetica fonts should all list in the right hand pane of the dialog box. IMPORTANT: at the bottom of the dialog box is a check box "Copy Fonts to Fonts Folder" - make sure this is NOT checked. You do not want the fonts reinstalled in the Fonts folder. Click Select All, the Install. All fonts should install, but their actual files remain in the new folder you created. As long as you don't delete this new folder the Helvetica fonts will be available to all programs which need them - but for some reason iTunes will now select a different font to display in iTunes.
And if it doesn't work the way you want, simply re-open Windows/Fonts, then repeat the installation instructions above but this time make sure the check box "copy fonts to font folder" IS checked and all will be restored.
