Font Folio 11 - OTF printing issues

I need help with a HP LaserJet 5200 (tabloid size laser printer) and OTF fonts. Ever since i switched to .otf fonts, I am having issues printing helvetica LT STD or any of the LT STD fonts for that matter. the fonts are all activated using Suitcase Fusion and Quark 6.5. Is anybody else having issues like this? I can't upload .otf fonts to the printer memory, so any suggestions? the printer defaults to courier when trying to print .otf fonts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

"Is anybody else having issues like this?"
Not that I've heard of, no - and I hear a lot of stuff as product manager for fonts. But that doesn't mean it couldn't be something relatively trivial that doesn't spring to my mind. You might try clearing Mac OS X's font cache for starters, as a corrupted OS font cache can cause all sorts of weird problems. Do a search on "clear OS X font cache" for instructions and even free utilities such as "Font Nuke" that make it trivially easy.
If that doesn't work, I'd try Adobe Tech Support. Either way, it would be very interesting to have you post back here again to tell us what happened with your problem. This should be a soluble problem.

  • Acrobat & Gotham OTF printing issues

This isn't the first time I have had problems with the Gotham OTF font family. In the past it would crash large Indesign CS4 files I was working on. Deleting the Indesign font list file seemed to help fix the problem.
Now I have run into yet another issue with this font in Acrobat. Now the font will not print correctly from Acrobat Reader or any Acrobat below version 7.0 and below. The characters come up missing when printed. Has anyone else run into a simular issue?
Some back info, The PDF I am trying to print was created from Indesign CS4. Some of the problem area seem to be where I have place PDFs in my Indesign layout to show some comps. The missing character are not always consistent either. On some pages its fine. On others it's an issue.
Thx for any help or ideas.

  • What's new in Font Folio 11.1?

Looks like Font Folio 11.1 released today, per http://adobe.com/products/fontfolio.
Can anyone tell us what is new in the past 5 years? I had hoped for some better glyph coverage in fonts like Utopia, but I don't see any evidence of that in the documentation, but I'm still hopeful?
The list of 80 additional fonts does not seem all that exciting for Western users, but perhaps much more so for users of other Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari, etc.
Comparing the PDF font listings, here's what the new faces are:

So can I assume FF11.1 will have Utopia 2.097? I can't really see anything in the above that looks like a user-visible change of significance...
On the other hand, FF11.1 upgrades seem to be extremely reasonably priced.  List price of the upgrade is $29.95/seat (20-pack), so really that's chump-change. So I suppose I can't really go wrong. But it's hard to get excited about, especially when I already have Adobe Text and Hypatia Pro from giveaway incentives (though I guess having them in FF clarifies some potentially thorny licensing questions...)
    Thanks!

Err, so I thought this would be an easy question...not so?

Press Release Source: Adobe Systems Incorporated
Adobe Announces OpenType Edition of Font Folio
Monday August 11, 8:12 am ET
New Version Offers the Adobe Type Library in Enhanced Cross-Platform Font Format
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 11, 2003--Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE - News), the leader in network publishing, today introduced a new version of Adobe® Font Folio(TM) featuring the Adobe Type Library in OpenType® format on one CD-ROM. The Adobe Font Folio (OpenType Edition) product contains more than 2,000 fonts in OpenType format, which allows for richer linguistic support and more advanced typographic control in any print, Web or dynamic media project. Adobe also announced the availability of a new special version with a 10-computer license, making it more affordable for small design shops to access the entire Adobe Type Library.
Adobe and Microsoft Corporation created the OpenType font format to improve cross-platform document portability and simplify font management, by introducing one font file that works on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms. Creative professionals benefit from extended foreign language support and the inclusion of expert typographic glyphs, such as small caps, old style figures and swashes, in many OpenType fonts.
"The OpenType font format is much more convenient than the old Type 1 or TrueType fonts," said David Blatner, co-author of Real World InDesign, InDesign for QuarkXPress Users and Real World Photoshop. "With Adobe's new Font Folio in OpenType format, I love having large character sets in the same font instead of having to work with a whole array of related font files."
    Pricing and Availability
The Adobe Font Folio [OpenType Edition] product is available immediately and will be sold primarily through the Adobe store at www.adobe.com, Adobe retail and licensing channels, and includes a standard 20-computer license for US$8,999. License extensions are also available and Font Folio is included in Adobe's transactional and contractual licensing programs. Upgrade pricing from Font Folio versions 8 or 9 to Font Folio OpenType Edition is US$2,499. Adobe is also releasing a special 10-computer license of Font Folio OpenType Edition for smaller design workplaces that is available for US$4,999. International English versions are available where localized versions are not sold.

    > "Adobe's applications DO allow selection of the individually styled fonts." Or something like that.
No, they don't. At least not as I understand the term. When Mac users talk about not being able to see fonts in Windows, they mean they can't see each and every variant in the font menu as a separate entry. So, Times Bold sits alongside Times Itals and Times Bold Itals in the font menu, and you can get from TNR Bold to Minion Pro Itals with one mouse click. In Adobe apps, you can't do this and you don't see all the variants in the one menu - you have a font family menu and a variant (or style) menu. You have to choose the font family first, then the variant, and you can't get from TNR Bold to Minion Pro Itals with one mouse click.
Although Adobe apps do style-link all font variants (a great advantage over Windows default limit of four family members), you are still choosing the family, then the style. In this, it's no different from choosing bold, itals, and bold itals in other Windows apps like Word, Ventura, FrameMaker, etc (and my post was referring only to these three variants, not to styles like black, condensed, etc, which may show up as separate entries). So, I stick by my statement that "bold, italic, and bold italic variations don't show up as separate fonts in menus in Windows apps".
(And Dov's right, we don't know this is the user's problem, but I was just raising a common issue, based on the limited info we had at hand.)

  • Adobe font folio 10

    Hi Everyone,
Anyone have list of Adobe font folio 10 fonts?
I have searched all over but not found.
It would be great if anyone give me the list of Font folio 10.
    Thanks,
    Shonky

    Thanks, Thomas.
All involved are on Macs. We are contracted to edit and then PDF the
InDesign files--we're a design and production house, rather than a
printer--so unfortunately we can't just get PDFs from them.
We are going to try running all PDFs on their end, and see if the
problem runs both ways--that is, see if they have similar problems
PDFing files with the newer font, as we have had PDFing files with
    the older font.
I will let you know how it goes. It's still quite a mystery. I'm
asking them to double-check that they aren't accidentally running Type
1 instead of OTF on their end.
    Thanks again,
    David

  • HP ENVY 100 D410 Printing issues...

I have an HP ENVY 100 that has recently started having printing issues.  We recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and had no problems in the upgrade nor have we had any other software that we've changed.  The problem seems to be somewhat random and the results are always the same.  When commanded to print the printer acts as if it is running out of ink and then distorts the fonts creating vertical lines on the page and skipping rows creating what almost looks like a bar code. It's most peculiar and the only way I can find to solve the issue is to completely restart both my system and the printer.  Thinking that I had a driver issue on my Mac I used the utility on the printer to update drivers and none were found.  To insure that the problems wasn't isolated to just my machine I tried our laptop as well and it seems to have the same problem.  Has anyone had a similar problem?

    Hi Talon,
That more liekly related to the software indeed, I would suggest trying the following steps:
Reset the printing system as listed below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01371980
Open the Applications folder, then Hewlett-Packard and then open the Device Utilities folder, launch the HP Setup Asisistant and follow the steps to reconfigure the device.
If there is no Hewlett-Packard folder simply re-add the printer by clicking the plus button under Print & Scan.
Now try printing and follow for any difference.
If the same persists uninstall any HP Software by following the HP Uninstaller under the Hewlett-Packard folder.
If there is no Hewlett-Packard folder follow the steps listed under Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8 > I used Apple Software Updates to install the product software below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02440673&tmp_task=useCatego ry&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=5157536#N1305
Download and isntall the latest Lion Software below:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-97934-2 &cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&product=4073738&sw_lang=
Once completing the installation click the Apple icon and install any available Software Update.

  • Printing issue with Electronic Signatures

In the footer of my document, i place document properties and also use the captioning feature for tables and figures. I have saved it in native 2010 format not in a compatability mode.
When I print my document (paper or PDF) these fields print properly.
After I electronically sign the document and look at the document on the screen, the fields and caption numbers (Table 1-1: Intended Audience) appear correctly. When I print to PDF or paper, the numbers disappear (Table 1-: Intended Audience) and they
    also disappear from the screen.
When I close the document and reopen it, the fields are correct. It only changes after the document prints.
Using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Version 14.0.6023.1000 (32-bit).
    (--merging--)
The original document was a 2007 document opened/stored in the 2010 format.
Reproduced with new 2010 document simply by creating two properties:
    Template Version - Test - Value 1.0
    Template Date - Date - Value 1/25/2012
    And doing the following:
Using the default Normal template with calibri as the font
Added a heading level 1 to the document
Added a 2x2 table with Insert Caption including the chapter number based on heading 1 below the table
Added the template version and template date as two lines on the page
    Inserted a signature line
Created a footer with the template version, page number aligned center (via tab), template date alighted right (via tab)
Printed without signing and all data was present (Table 0-1: Test)
Signed the document and printed. The following was missing:
The template date in the footer.
The table label was Table 0-: Test
The template date was present in the middle of the document

    Hi,
Is this problem only affect Word program with Electronic Signatures?
Please try to test Printing with different printer drivers.
If the Word printing problem occurs only when you print documents with a certain font or a certain type of graphics image, try to print to another printer.
If no other printer is available, contact the manufacturer to find out whether there is an updated version of the driver or a different driver that works with your printer model.
You may also follow other methods in this KB article troubleshoot print issue in word:

  • Font substitution failing when printing PDF to Non Postcript Printer

I have a problem with PDFs that do not have fonts properly embedded.
    For example:
    http://www.wlv.ac.uk/PDF/uow-direct-app-home.pdf
If I open the above file, it views on screen ok (using the substitute Adobe Serif MM and Adobe Sans MM) and prints to my postscript printer ok. But... if I print it to the basic office laserjet (Epson c1900), it fails to print any of the type.
    Any ideas?

No worries - thought you were from Wolverhampton University - know some
    people there ;-)
You might want to ensure all your print drivers are up-to-date since
this can seriously affect output - especially with Acrobat 8 printing
issue. Don't forget to update to 8.1.2 through the 'Check for Updates'
    option under HELP.
Another idea might be to use the PRINT AS IMAGE option under the print
menu, this will spool an image file to the printing device which might
    also help ...

    Hi Friends,
I am new user for SAP crystal report,
can any one help me for
Print Issue in VS 2010 Crystal Report Version 13.0.1.220

Font must be True Type and on the WEB server where the report is being processed.
Run Process Monitor and see if your app is loading the Font....
Typically if the characters show up as a box it means either the font you are using does not support UNICODE characters, it's not installed so font substition is done but the font used doesn't have the Glyph's required or there is a permission issue with the font being instlaled under a local User account and should be installed under the Admin account.
Also, Search for Font and Windows Framework, there are known limitations with .NET Framework and some fonts.
    What font are you using?

I am only using Print control = SF450 as the SAPSCRIPT is copied form an existing one, but event he SAP standard text will not print (vanilla) SAPSCRIPT-MICRTEST or SAPSCRIPT_MICRTEST the correct fonts.
Do you think font pitch may be the issue, we are planning to change this tomorrow to 10.
Does the escape sequence need to be added as a new print control to the Device type in SPAD or does SF450 HPLJMI still work?

  • PDF Printing Issues in R12

We have setup the PASTA drivers and have run into issues printing. We are running AIX 6.1
If we use pdf2ps the PDF documents will not print if we are using a MICR font. If we print other reports (no MICR) it prints out fine.
If we use xpdf the PDF documents will print the MICR font but all documents print out shrunk. Looks like it is resizing the page to 90% of the original size. So nothing lines up.
We don't have acroreader installed as they don't have one for AIX 6.1. It is no longer supported.
Anyone run into this before? Any ideas?

I have a very strange printing issue with a new HP printer. I have written pages documents heavy in Texts which are located within tables. The documents print fine on a Cannon and Epson printer and look great but when I print the document on my new HP Laserjet Pro 400 Colour M451nw some of the text on some rows come out of the printer looking like they are bold / slightly fuzzy. This only happens with some of the rows of text, not all of them. The font is the same in every row with the same format.
You can see this in the attached image. The first line (Thanks very much) has printed correctly but the subsequent lines look bold / slightly fuzzy.
After a lot of testing the only way I can resolve this is if I copy the content into a new pages document and only then it will print and look ok with the HP printer.
This must be a problem within my origional document. I would simply copy and paste everything into a new document however this would take a very, very long time (over 5 years of work producing teaching materials and over 100 documents and thousands of tables and formatting that cannot be copied and pasted).
Also, on other printers you can see the lines seperating each row of the table. These lines are not visible on the HP print outs, even when the table is copied into a new document.
Has anyone come accross an issue like this before? Is there a way I can fix this without creating a new document? Do I need to get a new another new printer (the 4th printer this week!)?
Any advise, wise words would be greatly apprechiated!
    Thanks!

Sorry, Fruhulda. After 4 hours on the phone with Apple care they are taking this issue further themselves. It seems to be a problem with our pages document and the compatibility with certain drivers. We have still not gotton to the bottom of it and Apple are going to get back to me when they have an answer.
We also worked out that the issue only happens when you print via Ethrenet & USB. Printing via Wifi is ok and there are no quality issues.
    Very Strange!

  • Nakisa OrgChart V3.0 SP1: Printing Issues

    Hi,
    We're using Nakisa OrgChart VSN30 SP1.
We have a few issues about printing:
    1. Tiling. When I go to tile a large Org Chart, even though Nakisa shows the page separator lines and no margins u2013 each page does have a margin cuts out portions of the printed Org Chart.
    2. Font for "printing/Header" and "ChartBook/Cover or Head". "Calibri" is our company's Standard font but not included in the font choices in Nakisa.
BTW, the sector of Print and Export in Nakisa's Help Document for OrgChart VSN30 SP1 has different screenshots of "Basic Print Wizard" from what we have.
    Thanks,
    Hongling

    Hongling,
Just to add that I had a client on 3.0 who did some very extensive testing of printing and exporting.  They too had issues using tiling that have been confirmed as not present in SP2.  I can't say for sure if your issue is or not without trying.
Is SP2 an option for you at this point?
If not, then OSS seems the only way to go.
If SP2 is an option, then it is worth considering but you might want to seek some assurance about whether this issue is resolved first.
    Regards,
    Stephen
P.s. By the way, did you get anywhere resolving your other print issue "different printers"? I notice it is still open on this forum.

  • How can I change the fonts in "contacts" when printing mail labels

How can I change the fonts in "contacts" when printing mail labels ? I used to be able to do this but in Mavericks this ability seems to have gone away. Am I missing something ?

Actually in my case it doesn't work. I used to be able to pull up the font window with it but the button merely flickers when I click it. The image selection button and font color both are functional. WEIRD. I don't think this is a Mavericks issue as I recall having it come up with one of my user profiles before installing. Now I can't make it happen with either of my user profiles.
I don't seem to have printing issues in other applications. And I recently reset the fonts in a futile attempt to correct this.
I may post a new topic in Mail Contacts and Calendar if there is no response here after a bit.

  • Which fonts are in the Adobe 'Font Folio Select' and can be embedded in software and apps for distri

    Hi,
I need to select a few fonts for our client to choose from that can be legally embedded into their software for distribution.
    After reading this article:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jlockman/2011/06/06/fonts-and-where-can-i-use-them/
it sounds like there is an Adobe 'Font Folio Select' that contains fonts we can use but I can't find any information about where to get hold of it.
I have spent hours hunting for fonts we can legally use and read lots of EULAs and still have no idea what fonts are available to developers!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Thanks for reaching out to the Adobe Type Team.
While the James Lockman blog you referred to is correct that our product, Font Folio Select, contains only fonts that we control and for which we can offer the broadest rights, it is mistaken in its description of how it is offered.  Font Folio Select is actually a collection of fonts which we offer for server usage - for customers who need fonts for automated printing services, or for web based services which offer a font selection.  I'm very sorry for the misinformation.
Font licensing for applications is something for which we can provide you a direct quote.  If you would like to email me directly at the address listed below, I can get you in touch with a sales associate who can help you.  Additionally, if you provide me with a list of fonts you are interested in licensing, if there are fonts which are not ours, I can also provide you with foundry contact information so you can reach out to them directly.
