Font Folio question

Hi, all. I wasn't sure where else to ask this question. I've been interested in purchasing the entire Adobe library of fonts but have been confused by the various products I've seen on the web.
There are 3 products: Font Folio 11, Adobe Font Collection, and Font Folio OT 1.0. Which Adobe product contains the most fonts? I've seen one saying it contains 2300 while another says it contains 2100, etc. I've not found a page that provides comparison between these products. Your guidance is much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, John, for your reply. Here are my answers to your great questions:
1) Because we're part of a university, we'd get the collection via an educational discount; so the price isn't a concern.
2) Yep. I've been reading up on the technologies.
3) I've tried to collect free, quality fonts off the web for a while, but it's time-consuming and you don't always get the best results.

  • What's new in Font Folio 11.1?

Looks like Font Folio 11.1 released today, per http://adobe.com/products/fontfolio.
Can anyone tell us what is new in the past 5 years? I had hoped for some better glyph coverage in fonts like Utopia, but I don't see any evidence of that in the documentation, but I'm still hopeful?
The list of 80 additional fonts does not seem all that exciting for Western users, but perhaps much more so for users of other Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari, etc.
Comparing the PDF font listings, here's what the new faces are:

So can I assume FF11.1 will have Utopia 2.097? I can't really see anything in the above that looks like a user-visible change of significance...
On the other hand, FF11.1 upgrades seem to be extremely reasonably priced.  List price of the upgrade is $29.95/seat (20-pack), so really that's chump-change. So I suppose I can't really go wrong. But it's hard to get excited about, especially when I already have Adobe Text and Hypatia Pro from giveaway incentives (though I guess having them in FF clarifies some potentially thorny licensing questions...)
    Thanks!

  • Font Folio Licenses

    Hi.
I have a client who is interested in purchasing 6 licenses to Adobe Font Folio (FF) 11.1 for Mac. I know about the $2,999 5-pack. I have the following questions regarding FF licensees.
    · If I purchase the $2,999 5-pack can I purchase a single license? If so, what would I purchase?
    · I noticed that I can purchase a single license from CDW (TLP) for $469.99 and a (CLP) $443.99. What is the difference?. Which one would you recommend I buy?
    · If I can purchase 5 single licenses for less than the 5-pack why wouldn't I purchase 5 single licenses?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Adobe Font Folio 7.0 or just 7?

Sorry, I know this probably is not the most appropriate place to ask this question. I am looking for information related to adobe font folio 7 released March 13, 1995 but I can not find much. I would like to know if, like previous versions, it was called 7.0 or just 7. Thank you very muchS

That's incredible, there is not even a picture on the internet that shows the original packaging!

  • Adobe Font Library Question

I work for a large company and we just purchased the entire library of fonts from Adobe. We use both macs and pcs in our office. The fonts that were sent were "Open Type". I have a few questions:
    1. We had been using "Type 1". Has "Open Type" replaced all of type 1 fonts?
    2. There were several fonts that we used as type 1 that are not showing up in our Adobe Font library of type (Example: Helvetica Narrow). Does Adobe no longer support that font? Are there others available to purchase, or does the Adobe Font Folio CD cover all type that is available?
    Thanks,

Great question - I'm trying to get the answer from Adobe right now. I will post back if I get a meaningful reply... from what I can discern not all type 1 fonts have been 1) converted to open type or 2) included in the Font Folio open type version (which is what I presume your company purchased)
PS Just got reply while composing.... try emailing [address deleted by forum staff - see http://www.adobeforums.com/Typography/661 for list] for a list of the typefaces in the FontFolio package (reference doc-> FFOTEFontList.pdf) Seems to me if the font you now use isn't in the package you might be stuck with your old version.
Here's a copy of the msg she forwarded me from her manager (JR) - Good luck!
    1) How many fonts WON"T be upgraded (meaning we'll have to keep the Postscript versions)
[JR] Although Type 1 fonts built on multiple master (MM) technology were converted to OpenType, MM's main feature of allowing adjusting height/weight axes is not converted. Instead, customers will have to choose corresponding Opentype fonts that approximate the various weights; a conversion chart of MM-to-OT fonts should be posted at http://studio.adobe.com/type/ at some point soon, but if the customer wants a copy sooner, I have one.
As far as Type 1 fonts the customer *should keep*, pi (symbol) fonts in Type 1 format may need to be retained, as some symbols cannot be accessed by some applications for current OpenType fonts. The customer can read more in the OpenType ReadMe, here: http://store.adobe.com/type/browser/OTReadMe.html#Anchor-Pi
1a) From your msg below: What does this mean? Does this mean we have to keep all our PS fonts? - All converted Type 1 to OpenType fonts*
[JR] Except for the instances mentioned above, customers should not need to retain Type 1 equivalents of OpenType fonts. All base characters accessible in the Type 1 versions should be accessible in OpenType, in all applications. There are some known limitations, however, discusses in the OpenType ReadMe, here, however, that should be noted: http://store.adobe.com/type/browser/OTReadMe.html#Anchor-22064
    2) How many fonts are actually NEW? (OPEN TYPE)
[JR] There are 61 new fonts on FFOTE that were not on Font Folio 9.0. These include Brioso Pro, Montara Std, Moonglow Std, Organica Std and Arcana Std Manuscript.
    3) Can I get a list that answers the 2 above questions.
[JR] This will be somewhat labor intensive, but I can supply some preliminary information, if you'd like.
    4) We also got a bunch of Image Club fonts when we got Font Folio... are those now part of the open type package? We've since lost the disc and are in the process of replacing it but I wonder if it is wasted effort if its - but that's another story
[JR] Although Image Club was at one time an Adobe-held company, it's very difficult to know what fonts they had rights to sell at this point. Adobe may not have retained (and likely did not retain) the rights to every font in the Image Club library, once we divested the company. The best way to know is to compare their Image Club fonts against the complete FFOTE font list, attached.
    Hope this helps!
    Jud.

  • Using Font Folio in InDesign to export in PDF to app store

Our customer is creating applications using In Design.    These applications are exported into PDF format for viewing on mobile devices.    Is there any additional licensing needed from Adobe in this scenario?
Also, in the future (not now) if the customer would like to look into perhaps fonts to be embedded in a app the customer is creating, what licensing would be needed?
    Thanks in advance!

For export of PDF from InDesign (or saving PDF from Illustrator or Photoshop), no additional license is required for embedding fonts sourced from Adobe (including all the fonts in the Font Folio and any bundled with Adobe applications).
This is not true for use in applications where text is being generated on-the-fly and/or can be entered by the user. Others will comment on those licensing requirements.

  • Lion, Font Book & Adobe Font Folio

    Howdy All,
I have a brand new Mac mini with Lion installed (of course) and I'm having a bear of a time loading the Adobe Font Folio. In general, I'm having a really hard time with Font Book on other Lion, late vintage, machines. I've tried every counter measure in my bag of tricks: boot in safe mode, Onyx cleaning, new user accounts, deleting plists, etc. At first I ignored the Font Book warnings, then I've heeded every one and not loaded the fonts. On my latest attempt, with a new user account account I have 444 fonts loaded, with the vast majority turned off, but Font Book hangs. I suppose I can always flatten the machine and start from scratch, but I'm just wondering if someone has an insight into the Lion/Font Book situation that I don't have. For the record, I have about 600 fonts running on about 30 Snow Leopard machines without any drama.
    Thanks in advance for ideas.

    Same here. My thread: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15995212#15995212
I've had no replies. Have you looked at Activity Monitor while this is happening? check it out. I think i'm just going to go back to Leopard, don't know what else to do. Do you have an SSD in there?

About Java 2 opaque font color question, help needed!
I was trying to test opaque font (the string has a foreground color and a background color), but i can't find the method for doing that.
i can change foreground by Graphics2D.setPaint(Color.black).
Anybody know how to change the background of the string?
    Thanks!

Hi. The way I'd do it would be to use the font metrics to find the length of a string and draw a rectangle and then drawstring over the rectangle. If you want an example, I can post it although I suspect theres a better way.

Since this is a user to user forum, neither officially nor regularly monitored by Adobe, your chances of getting a quick response are rather low.

  • Which fonts are in the Adobe 'Font Folio Select' and can be embedded in software and apps for distri

    Hi,
I need to select a few fonts for our client to choose from that can be legally embedded into their software for distribution.
    After reading this article:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jlockman/2011/06/06/fonts-and-where-can-i-use-them/
it sounds like there is an Adobe 'Font Folio Select' that contains fonts we can use but I can't find any information about where to get hold of it.
I have spent hours hunting for fonts we can legally use and read lots of EULAs and still have no idea what fonts are available to developers!
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

Thanks for reaching out to the Adobe Type Team.
While the James Lockman blog you referred to is correct that our product, Font Folio Select, contains only fonts that we control and for which we can offer the broadest rights, it is mistaken in its description of how it is offered.  Font Folio Select is actually a collection of fonts which we offer for server usage - for customers who need fonts for automated printing services, or for web based services which offer a font selection.  I'm very sorry for the misinformation.
Font licensing for applications is something for which we can provide you a direct quote.  If you would like to email me directly at the address listed below, I can get you in touch with a sales associate who can help you.  Additionally, if you provide me with a list of fonts you are interested in licensing, if there are fonts which are not ours, I can also provide you with foundry contact information so you can reach out to them directly.

  • Installing Font Folio 9

I have nowhere to turn to... this may be a most relevant forum I can find on adobe.com.
How can I install all the fonts simultaneously? I have to go into each fold and add fonts from the ATM Deluxe 4.1. Would take me hours to click thru each folder.
    What to do? Help!
    Glenn

    Hi Glenn,
I don't think there really is an easy way to do this. Certainly it's not a feature of Font Folio.
As a work-around, I'm wondering if you might pop in the CD, then use Windows' Search to search the CD for *.pfm and *.pfb, this would eventually list all the .pfm and .pfb files in the search window, where you could then select them all and copy them into a new folder on your desktop (or elsewhere). Once you'd done that, you could then go into ATM and browse to that desktop folder to install everything in one fell swoop.
Option 2 would be to simply install individual font families from the CD as you want/need them. Font Folio has a lot of fonts, you certainly wouldn't want them all active in any case--if only for the sheer annoyance of picking the font you want from a never-ending list.

  • How does workstation licensing work in Font Folio?

    Good morning, everyone;
I am looking for a font licensing solution for freelancers contracted with my company. I need to be able to license their workstationfor the duration of the time that they are working on a project, and then revoke the license so that another freelancer can use the fonts instead.
Does Font Folio work well for this?
Can licenses be assigned and revoked easily, or is it a drawn out ordeal?
Is FontFolio included with Creative Cloud membership?

    Matthew-
It depends upon the number of seats you have purchased.  If you have a 5, 10 or 20-pack, then you can allow the contractor to use one of those seats, provided you have a seat that is free (meaning that no one else in your company is using it.)  You cannot split up fonts and use them across multiple contractors or multiple people in your company.  In other words, while a contractor is using Font Folio, that seat, or any other fonts from that seat cannot be used by anyone else.
More importantly, the EULA does not allow for redistribution of fonts.  So you need to be sure that all fonts from Font Folio are removed from the workstation once the contractor is no longer employed by you or your company.  If they aren’t, then you have technically redistributed the fonts and will be out of compliance with the license.
Font Folio doesn’t work particularly well for this because of the sheer number of fonts you make available to the contractor and the difficulty in tracking them.  The license for Font Folio is to you only, so the onus is on you to remain in legal compliance.
Finally, Font Folio is not part of Creative Cloud.  Font Folio is a complete library of over 2800 fonts and is available in its smallest form (5 seat license) at a suggested retail price of $2999.00.

  • Fonts Folio 11 - Burned optical media

    Hi group,
I just bought from ebay Adobe Fonts Folio 11. I asked and was told that this was an actual Adobe disc. What I got is a burned discs. It looks like a Rimage printed burned CD-ROM. I just want to make sure that this is not right. Anyone here who has a boxed copy of Adobe Fonts Folio 11, can you confirm that the CD-ROM is manufactured? It should look silver-ish on the bottom and the printing would be offset quality.
    I think I have a counterfiet here.

No, not at all. And I have done that in the past. You see I have waited Folio 8 for a long time. He claimed to have a 20 user license and that he could sell one. My thought was that a 5 user is $2,999 new from Adobe, which values each license at roughly $600. The start bid was for $199. The auction ended and the price never went higher. So I got it for $199.
Prior to bidding I asked if this was absolutely an Adobe disc. The reply said that it was. I asked if it was verison 11.1with 2,400 OpenType fonts. The reply said no, it was just v11 and had 2,100 fonts. I checked with Adobe's site and it seemed to match up with v11 on the site. So I bid and won.
Got it in today and I myself work in replication and have even written a book on DVD authoring and menu design. So I know what a manufactured disc should look like. And I also have Rimage for short run burning for clients. and this disc looks just like a Rimage or an Everist disc to me. It is not manufactured.
Now, I can tell you I bought a $1,000 app from Sonic Solutions once and it came on Burned media dorectly from them. So I know some companies, even large one, use burned media if the product itself doesn't have a wide audience. I don't know how popular Fonts Folio is and so I thought I should ask before I fill in the ebay claim that this is bogus.
