Font for Web question

In the past I have used PS CS's text and saved the file as an image (with a black background for a black webpage)to use on a the page page. Now I am re-doing my website and I think I should be using Illustrator. Is that correct or is there a way to use the PS document on a web page other than what I did (made and image out of it). I like the PS document I have made and the effects it has so I would like to use it if possible.
Any input is helpful.

Illustrator has no tools for saving a file for the web in vector format (other than SVG, which I don't recommend getting into). You save as GIF, JPG, or PNG, just as you would for Photoshop, and vectors are rasterized in all these formats.
As Bart says, you would use Illustrator if you wanted to make use of some of its unique drawing capabilities.
The alternative, if we are talking real text here, and not just a few words in headings or logos, is to use HTML to produce the text. This will allow many benefits, including allowing Google to catalog the content and improve your rating, and to allow users who need it to enlarge text for easier reading. As well, HTML text usually looks better than image text.

What are the compatabile Fonts Recommended to use for Reports on Web Applications.
Report using Arabic Fonts (Simplified Arabic) changes the letter to differnt letter (not ?????). Gridliness & Colour are not displayed at all.
    Please advise.
    TIA

i think the problem of gridlines and colors is because of the html format if using that for your reports. I also used html format but the same problem plus the page format was also disturbed in html, so i shifted to pdf format and everything worked fine. You also try with pdf format.

  • Creating Images for Web, question about settings, etc.

Okay before someone tells me "use the search function or google", let me say this...i already have.
I am looking for a guide or anything to ALL settings and recommendations for photoshop cs4.
I find different examples and such but nothing that is "great" and exactly what I need.
When creating a new file that will be used for the web.  Logo, site graphics, etc. what are the best
settings when creating a new document?  recommended settings for anything from the resolution, color mode
to the "pixel aspect ration" under advanced.
Basically I just need to do this part my self, i am pretty familiar with photoshop but just never took the time to actually know 100% of the best
    settings that i should use.
I just want to be able to create the high quality images i can for my website,
I use .png for the most part {because i need transparency for several items}.
but I notice that alot of times it has that little bit of blurryness to it, i tried messing with the resolution, i tried resize, i tried alot of things.
my BIGGEST frustration and what ultimately led me to come to these forums was the use of the font, no matter what , my font always always always looks a bit blurry.  what can i do to take this effect of blurryness away?
any and all help is appreciate and i give a thanks in advance!

The best setting for the issues you describe is to work on your art in Photoshop at a 100% view and to place in a web page at 100%. Do not try to scale the images with HTML/CSS.

  • If I use a web font in my website can I use the same font for printed materials such as business car

I am a graphic designer intending to design a portfolio website in Adobe Muse. I plan to use TypeKit web fonts to design my website. Upon completioin of the website I intend to design business cards and my resume to match the look of my website. I would like to use the same fonts as I used on the website. Is it possible to use web fonts for printing purposes? If not, what do people typically do in this situation. The last thing I want to do is use a font that "looks" like the ones used on my website.

    Hi redsoxfan15b,
(I think I may have replied to your Typekit Support ticket earlier today, but I will post the same information here to be certain.)
We have recently added a new feature to Typekit that allows you to sync fonts to your desktop and use them in print design. The announcement on our website has more information:
    http://blog.typekit.com/2014/01/16/the-fonts-you-love-from-typekit-now-on-your-desktop/
Font sync is available on any Typekit Portfolio, Performance, or Business plan.  Here is a list of all the font available for desktop use:
    https://typekit.com/fonts?licenses=desktop
We are continuing to license more of the library for desktop use, but for now you should confirm that the font you would like to use it available for both web and desktop.  And if there is a font you'd like to use that isn't available for desktop sync, you may also be able to purchase a license directly from the foundry.
I hope that this helps; let me know if you have any other questions!  Best,

  • Use font on typekit for Web

I want to use the kozuka gothic pro for a website.
    https://typekit.com/fonts/kozuka-gothic-pro
However, the status of 'web availability' seems not to be ready.
Is this because of my account type?
Can I change the icon not to be opaque if I upgrade my account plan?
Or else, whatever your account status is, is it impossible to use such fonts on Typekit?
Plus, I'm just curious why there are fonts on Typekit are only available for Sync or Web.
    I'd appreciate any feedback.

    Hello,
Thanks for your interest in Typekit. Typekit web font serving does not support Japanese fonts at this time, so are not able to offer Kozuka Gothic Pro for web use.  Adding and serving fonts that support the Japanese language is a unique challenge that we’re eager to tackle; any progress in that area will be announced on the blog (blog.typekit.com) and twitter (@typekit).
In the meantime, Adobe’s Source Han Sans can be used on the web under the terms of its open source license:
The Typekit Blog | Introducing Source Han Sans: An open source Pan-CJK typeface
    > I'm just curious why there are fonts on Typekit are only available for Sync or Web.
The differences are due to the font licensing. Some foundries or designers have chosen to only make the fonts available for web use via Typekit at this time, while others have licensed their fonts for both web and sync.
We are continuing to license fonts from our foundry partners for sync as we move forward. If you need a particular weight of a font that is not available to sync from Typekit, you can likely purchase a license directly from the foundry.

I hope that this helps! Let us me know if you have any other questions, either here or by email at [email protected]  Best,

  • About Typekit, Edge Fonts and Google Fonts real utility for Web Designers

    Hello,
Perhaps it´s a simple situation for the majority of CC User but I´m a little bit confused about that. I have a TypeKit plan included in my Creative Cloud subscription. I have then the possibility of use Web Fonts included in Typeset (which is awesome, by the way). My problem comes when I try to use a TypeKit font for a client who does´t want to pay for a TypeKit plan and I can´t use the same font in the trial plan which is a great way of convince the client he needs TypeKit for a better typography access.
    So, my questions are:
There is available TypeKit fonts in Adobe Edge fonts too?
The only fonts available in Edge Fonts are Google Fonts?
How can I know if a specific TypeKit font is available in TypeKit Trial Plan too without searching the entire catalog filtered by Trial Library or in Adobe Edge?
Do you recommend to me a workflow in which I can use TypeKit fonts for clients avoiding the need to pay the client for that font? (it´s hard to convince him, not to use free alternatives like Google Fonts or Adobe Edge Fonts)
    Thanks in advance.

I haven’t tried it so this may be a shot in the dark but you might be able to hack into the CSS and use @font-face to call a local font.
Check the license of the font to be sure it allows this.

  • Exporting PDF format for web viewing, fonts look bad

Hey everybody I'm relatively new to indesign so sorry if this is a simple one. I'm doing a newsletter in indesign, which will be used stricktly for web viewing. Whenever I export the file as a pdf the body text fonts look a bit off, as though they are slightly pixelated around the edges. This is not as noticable in the artcile titles with larger font, but any smaller font (i'm using size 14, and futura book) and it gets this pixelation, it is even more noticeable in the thinner type sets of the font. Another odd thing is the first page of the newsletter the fonts are more messed up looking than the following pages where the same font types and sizes are used, the only major difference is the first page has a photo on it, but the fonts that look weird are below the photo not overlaying it or anything like that. I turned off all the compression on the pdf export, also tried it will varying amounts of compression but still have the same issue. And I am viewing this in Mac's Preview program, not acrobat.

Ok, just checked through all the flattening preview highlights and everything looked fine in that. Since my exported document looked perfectly fine in acrobat, but sort of pixelated in mac's preview, is there any way around that?
If you are serving the PDF via a web address it will very likely be viewed in a browser (not downloaded and opened in an app like Preview or Reader). All of the browser displays have slightly different anti-aliasing, which you can see if you zoom in on a screen capture of the text. Here's a line of text from your PDF at 100%, magnified to 400% in Photoshop. From top to bottom Safari, Chrome, Firefox:
There's nothing you can do about the anti-aliasing quality of the different browsers and apps. The PDF you posted has live transparency, so it isn't a flattening issue.

  • Web fonts for non-Roman languages

The Add Web Fonts dialog in Muse makes it easy for me to find fonts for English and other languages that use the Roman writing system. I need to find fonts for Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Thai, and possibly other systems too.
Is there a way to search for such fonts, and to preview fonts in the language in which they will be used?

no because they're not avalible, i think. if live text doesn't matter to you you can just use the fonts localy on your computer and muse will generate a picture of the text area using that non roman font. else if you know your way around code you can just replace the fonts in the css. as for writing in arabic, it'll probably have the same problem as writing in hebrew where muse might align right but you can't set a text box to a RTL direction which means that whatever you write in websafe fonts (if they even exsist, i've no idea) will display in LTR direction. which you can go on and change later in css per text box. another thing you might want to remember before writing in arabic selecting some very spesific font is that since the text boxes turn to images you won't be able to change the direction later on because it's no longer live text.
    hope it helps.

  • Question about file size when using "Export for Web"

    Hi!
I created a .mov file and worked to get a great balance between file size and quality so that I could deliver it via the web and make it easier for end users to see the video on a slower connection.
My question: When I use "Export for Web," my .mov file is converted into a very large .m4v file--more than double the size of the original file. I know that this export option is to optimize the file for a wide variety of users/internet speeds. Am I correct in guessing that the end size is not an issue? I would post the .mov file instead, but I really like the option of embedding into a html page along with the "click to play" option.
Bottom line--is it better to post the smaller .mov file that i originally started with or to go ahead and link to the bigger .m4v file that was created with the "Export for Web" option?

"Export for Web" is a feature of QuickTime Pro and it makes 4 files and the html page code for easy copy/paste Web page editing.
The very first file is called a "reference movie" and it links to the other 3 files (56kbps, 900kbps and 1.5Mbps). It, and the page code, "read" the connection speed of the viewing hardware and "serve up" the correct file based on that connection speed.
In nearly all cases the "Desktop" version would still be smaller in file size than the original source. The times the file would "increase" in file size would be when an already compressed was used as the source file. You can find out more about your source file by opening it in QuickTime Player and viewing the Movie Inspector window information.
There are dozens of other html "tricks" that could be used if your source file is already compressed but you want a different display size:
Page code to show "aspect" or scale="tofit". This code allows values "outside" of those found in the actual QuickTime file be used for the Web page display. A 320X240 QuickTime .mov file looks pretty good at double size (640X480) but the file size would still be that of the source file.
"Poster Movie" is another html trick that loads the Web based file directly in the QuickTime Player application (bypassing Web page layout restrictions). These files are also known as "Presentation Movies".
Another method is the QuickTime Media Link file (.qtl). These are simple text based files that are used as a "direct link". These use simple XML (Extensible Markup Language) and are easily created in any text editing application. The simple syntax has amazing control over a simple QuickTime .mov file. You can launch (and quit) the QuickTime Player, display at other dimensions and even embed "links" inside the display.
Some of my files as examples:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/Lemon_Trees/ a "Poster Movie" style.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/.Public/RedneckTexasChristmas.qtl
A QuickTime Media Link file. A tiny file should download to the viewing machine, launch QuickTime Player, present the movie and it even includes a "link" to my Web page.
Edit: It appears you must now double click the .qtl download to launch QuickTime.

  • Adobe licensing for using fonts on web

I have master collection cs5.5 and - for example - myriad pro light font inside of it. On Adobe website on fonts there is whole myriad pro family available for web usage. So, if i've paid for master collection with myriad pro shipped inside, can I use adobe fonts for website for free (@font-family in CSS), or do I have to pay for such usage anyway?
    Regards
    Sebastian.

    Hi Niten,
Not usre on this. But these are defined in a stylesheet so I guess you can change that either in the HTML code tab in the web template in WAD. If that is not possible then change it in Report deisgner or change the stylesheet in MIME repository.

  • Best Font for Subtitles? and other General Subtitling questions?

I've never had to use subtitles, until my current project, so I am looking for some general advice and suggestions.
I will be using PPCS3 (on XPpro) as the subtitles (as in the kind that translate a foreign language) will be permanent.
    So here are my questions:
    1. What is the best font and or what is the most standard font for subtitles? (Font size and other characteristics may be worth mentioning here too.)
    2. Is it possible to have an outline around the text as opposed to shadow?
    3. What are some general rules of thumb for subtitles that apply to broadcast and cinematic productions?
    Thank you.
