Font in menu bar in CS5

The font is very light on the menu bar in CS5. However Bridge in CS5 is bold and easy to read (as is the menu in PS CS3). How do I adjust the appearance of the menu bar?
I would also like the gray color on the menu bar and tool bar and in the background of a picture to be lighter.  In Bridge CS5 I can lighten the background to pictures and I would like this in Photoshop CS5.
Many thanks for help and suggestions.

Marilynn,
Hopefully, you will not have to go far down this general list.
You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

    Thanks in advance !

    If you want to change the size of the font of a TextEdit text document, you do it in the preferences. Alternatively, if you want control over the size of the fonts, make it a Rich Text document, and then you can change the font size. You can either use the Larger or Smaller options, or Show Fonts to choose a size. You can elect to have new documents be Rich Text in the preferences as well.

  • Font in Menu Bar and Drop Down list way too small

    I just tried PSE 10 and was very surprised to see that Adobe did not address the problem with the font size being way too small in the menu bar and drop down list.  I cannot possibly read the font - so the program is basically unusable.  I am using a new 17inch laptop.  Is it possible that after all the complaints Adobe didn't fix this problem in PSE 10?  Are they even working on it?  I love the program but unfortunately I am going to have to switch to something else because there is no way I can read the font and thus cannot use the program at all.  Very, very disappointing.  Hopefully they are working on a fix???

    Photoshop CS5 Essential has preferences that offer users the opportunity to adjust menu bar background color as well as font size.  For example,
    "UI Font Size
    If you find that Photoshop's interface text is a little too small for comfort, you can increase its size by changing the UI Font Size option to either Medium or Large. And no, this option isn't just for old folks with poor eye sight. Working on a very high resolution monitor can make Photoshop's interface text appear very small. Personally, I like to set my font size to Large which I find helps to avoid eye strain. You'll need to close and then re-open Photoshop for the change to take effect:
    Change the font size to increase some of the text in Photoshop's interface.

  • Larger fonts in Menu bar and title bars?

    I recently purchased an Intel Mac Mini for my mother. She does not have the greatest eyesight and I would like to increase the size of the font used in the menu bar, window title bar, etc.. In Windows there is a "large font" theme that does this very nicely.
    Is this possible?
    The only thing I found that might help is the "Zoom" mode and thats not going to work. She has enough trouble using the mouse as it is and this will only be more difficult...
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    You can use Universal Access, it's in Control panels
    to 'display fonts no smaller than' a specific size,
    this is probably what you're looking for
    regards,
    Peter.
    OK, Let us try this again.
    If I bring up "System Preferences" and then click on the "Universal Access" doohickey I get a control panel applet that has 4 tabs. The first tab labeled "Seeing" does not contain any option to set a minimum font size. It only contains the "VoiceOver", "Zoom", and "Display" options. None of these options allow me to set the minimum font size. The other tabs in the universal access applet are "Hearing", "Keyboard", "Mouse and Trackball" -- none of these contain anything to do with setting font size.
    Perhaps you can provide more detailed instructions to find this mysterious font size setting?
    I just searched again in this forum and found this recent discussion which seems to say it is not possible to somehow enable larger fonts in the menu bar and title bar and such. This is ridiculous. Since you can now get LCD displays that have very high pixel density the physical size of these fonts is quite small. Changing the display resolution is not a valid solution since everything gets blurry when you use an LCD at non-native resolution.

  • Tiny font on Menu Bar & on window when using Apple Mail on new Macbook Air

    I have a new MacBook Air and all is good - except my Mail window has tiny fonts, including on the tool bar, and the Menu Bar is also has smaller fonts when Mail is active. I have made the actual messages readable but the rest of the screen is almost too small to read.

    I just got my new MacBook Air and I was also really, really disappointed that the menu bar fonts - and all default text sizes in general - are much too small. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the optimal resolution for the monitor is now 1440x900 instead of 1280x800 as it was in the older MacBook Air models. I guess I just have to go to the optician and get myself a pair of glasses...
    But I think this is clearly a design -related problem that Apple should fix asap!

  • Horizontal menu bar in cs5

    Im fairly new to dreamweaver, and im trying to make a horizontal menu bar with rollover images. Every tutorial I have found online tells me how to make a spry menu bar, or just a rollover image. I know how to do both now, but nobody can seem to tell me how I can customize the spry menu bar with rollover images. So can anyone help me? or is that not even possible? Thanks anyway!

    @John
    Sorry John, I did not mean real rollover images, only so called rollovers. What I have in mind is an image that changes when the state of the menu item changes as can be seen in the following

  • Is it possible to increase the size of everything on the display (All fonts, icons, menu bars, etc) at once without changing the screen resolution?

    I have a user with a new 27" Mac who is very.... specific... with how she wants things.  She says she needs the displayed size of everything on her computer increased as everything is too small.  I tried changing the resolution to 1920x1080, which she stated was around the size she wants, but this will not work for her since things aren't crystal clear and she says it hurts her eyes to view it like this.
    I come from a Windows background so I assumed there would be a way to simply increase the display size of everything in one shot.  If not, what hoops will I need to jump through to have this adjusted for every application on the machine?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    OS X doesn't have a UI size increase ability like what you expect on Windows, it's been a long complaint of Mac users for ages, but Apple simply refuses to listen.

    I have a web browser solution here, the other opiton is to use a scroll wheel/head mouse and a Universal Access "control" key to press while scolling with the mouse up and down to zoom in/out where the mouse is pointed or some other trackpad etc arrangement.

  • No menu bar with Aperture 1.56 and Leopard

    Anyone seeing this bug
    Otherwise my Leopard Install went fine

    Well that was a one time only fix, but after mucking around I did find a permanent fix.
    Because the installation adds/duplicates fonts if you eliminate the duplicate fonts the menu bar shows up. I did this. Go to user>library>fonts and move that folders contents to the desktop. I duplicated all the fonts first just to be safe, and put them in a separate folder in my home folder, as well as the original fonts folder. Reboot, and all the menu bars for programs that were missing them now show up. I hope this is a permanent fix. Post back and let me know if it works for you. If it does we may have fixed this problem for other users of "Pro"apps. Mahalo JB

  • PS CS5 messes up menu bar; dialog boxes distort during drag; etc

    I'm having weird problems with Photoshop CS5.  I'd love help, or even tips for how to frame the question when searching for help.
    Here are the symptoms:
    - After starting PS, if I open any dialog box and then close it, after closing the PS menu bar is corrupted -- it looks like a single row of pixels is missing through the File, Edit, Image, etc words, and at the right end of the menu bar, the three control icons are overlain with Windows control icons.  Both these problems can be seen in the screen capture image below.
    - When a dialog box is open, if I drag it around, it gets clipped as repainting tries to keep up with the mouse.  It's always rectangular, but edges flicker off to varying depths as it repaints to move.  When the mouse stops, the repaint works and it looks fine.  While moving, the faster the movement, the worse the effect.
    - When using tools such as Lasso select, the movement feedback (the selection gray line) lags a few millimeters or more, depending on speed.
    To me it looks like an application + video driver problem, but all s/w is up to date.  Messing with OpenGL setting (Edit->Preferences) doesn't affect things; it acts the same with OpenGL on or off, basic, normal, or advanced.  My video card is displayed correctly in the Edit->Preference: Performance box.
    The first problem (menu bar corruption) is obviously least interfering and I believe has been with me longest.  The latter two problems make PS somewhat difficult to use, and I believe showed up in the last few months (since the last time I used PS intensively, about 8 months ago).  I can't recall for sure, but I think I installed updates to both PS and ATI drivers in the last 8 months (ie., so both could be suspects).
    Any ideas what is wrong, or what to search for?  What would be a good search query for this sort of problem set?
    Does this seem to be an Adobe problem, or ATI, or who?
    Here's my set-up:
    - Dell Inspiron 580 with 6 GB RAM
    - ATI Radeon HD 5450
    - Windows 7 64-bit
    - PS CS5 standard edition
    Thanks for help and/or ideas!

    I don't know about pre-packaged themes, but what I do is along these lines:
    Minimize Chrome on the Desktop
    If you have a sharp monitor, good eyes, and don't like that Microsoft has made all the useless chrome and border space around everything larger in the later versions of Windows, you'll likely want to minimize it to make more room to do real work...
    ·    Right-click on Desktop - Personalize, ensure the Windows 7 Aero theme is selected
    ·    Choose Window Color – Advanced appearance settings...
    ·    Active Title Bar item to size 17.
    ·    Menu item to Size 15, font Segoe UI size 8.
    ·    Border Padding item to size 0.
    ·    Scroll Bar item to size 16.
    ·    Caption Buttons item to size 16.
    ·    Icon Spacing (Horizontal) item to size 27.
    ·    Icon Spacing (Vertical) item to size 41.
    You can experiment with these settings to find a balance you like.
    Hope this helps!

  • Is there any way to disable the mouse-over function of the Spry Menu Bar (CS5)? Click-open preferred

    Hello,
    I'm using the standard CS5 Spry Menu Bar (Horizontal) in Dreamweaver. I have it set up exactly the way I want with CSS. However, I've very little experience with Javascript, consequently I'd like to ask anyone here for some help in modifying this aspect of the Spry Menu Bar. I'd like it to 'click-open' and not open when the mouse is over it. I've tried to change the delay variables in the code to something that has a longer duration in milliseconds; unfortunately, this tends to cause some bugs such as the menu re-opening once the mouse is no longer near it and other such bugs.
    The ideal solution for me would be to have it open when it's clicked on once. The reason I need this is because the menu appears over some buttons - there's no way around this for me, it's the layout I absolutely must have. Although the buttons don't overlap with the menu, they are very close and it is annoying when your hand slips a little and the menu pops up over it all.
    I'd appreciate any help at all, thank you.
    PS:- The Javascript containing the delay variables I tried to modify.
    Spry.Widget.MenuBar.prototype.init = function(element, opts)
        this.element = this.getElement(element);
        // represents the current (sub)menu we are operating on
        this.currMenu = null;
        this.showDelay = 250;
        this.hideDelay = 600;
        if(typeof document.getElementById == 'undefined' || (navigator.vendor == 'Apple Computer, Inc.' && typeof window.XMLHttpRequest == 'undefined') || (Spry.is.ie && typeof document.uniqueID == 'undefined'))
            // bail on older unsupported browsers
            return;
        // Fix IE6 CSS images flicker
        if (Spry.is.ie && Spry.is.version < 7){
            try {
                document.execCommand("BackgroundImageCache", false, true);
            } catch(err) {}

    Hello,
    Thank you so much for replying so quickly and moreover, solving my problem. I must apologise for not doing more research about this issue by searching these forums more thoroughly. I found a similar post here:-
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/139937#139937
    Your solution goes one step further and eliminates the need to search through the Javascript for the relevant code.
    Thank you again, you've helped me a great deal.
    Best wishes,
    foreverdusty.

    Hi,
    I am using your software: CS6 InDesign Suiteon a PC using a Windows 7 operating system.
    Due to eyesight issues, I need to have the menu bars of programs in easy-to-read font and picture size.  Specifically, the menu bar across the top (File, Edit, View, etc.), and the menu bar on the left side with the graphic depiction of options.
    In earlier versions of Windows (e.g. XP), whenever I changed the screen resolution on my computer to a lesser resolution in order to show the link icons on my desktop in a larger, more readable size, all the software programs, including yours, appeared on my screen with the menu bars in the larger font size that I needed.
    However, in Windows 7, this is not the case.  Even though I have selected the lowest resolution, making the icons on my desktop extremely large, I cannot read the options across the top menu bar of your program, nor the pull-down menu items that they contain.  I cannot see the graphic depictions of options on the left side of the screen. They are all too small.  How can I make your program increase the size?

    CS6 is not high-DPI compatible/ enabled and that can't be changed. If you cannot6 make it work with your operating system means, then short of joining Creative Cloud and using newer versions there is nothing you can do.
