Font info vanished in CC file!?

[I moved this over from the Creative Cloud forum FWIW]
I'm a packaging designer and recently have encountered a very problematic glitch.
I have a flat carton layout with an assortment of fonts. I saved the file one day – typical Save – just with PDF Content unchecked since that slows down my workflow. Several days later, I reopened it and all of those fonts were defaulted to Myriad Pro Regular.
Font auto-activation has been a problem in Creative Cloud, but that's not the problem. The fonts are active – they even appear properly in another layout using the many of the same text treatments.
And typically when a font is inactive and text is defaulting to Myriad, the character pallette shows you the intended font between < >
Not in this file. Every defaulted bit of text is indicated to be Myriad Pro Regular. No asterisk, No < >, No nothing.
It's as if the font information was lost the last time I saved the file, and the only way to fix it is to manually replace each bit of text with the appropriate font.
Other designers in my group have noticed this happening occassionally as well.

Mac or PC? Which font utility are you using for auto activation, Universal Type Client, Fontbook, Font Explorer? Do you have any strange fonts loaded like ending in MM (multiple master), or some oddball font foundry whose code might not be that good?
If you are not using font book, disable font book auto activation
clear your font cache - http://jamapi.com/pr/fn/
If you are not using font book, try and disable as many fonts as possible, your apps will boot quicker you will have less font problem and your menus wont take forever to scroll
If have multiple version of the same fonts try to use the newer technology of opentype or truetype whenever possible. Warning there are occasionally small type shifts in kerning and tracking and characters, so proof your line breaks. Type 1 is very old, but still many people only have them as the distribution was quite large as compared to Type 3, hoping that in years to come type 1 will go away as Type 3 did.
Using a font utility is preferred to font book, which does not perform well once you have many fonts.
Slimming down fontbook is actually tough to figure out as some fonts you need for web browsing, some you can't, and some fonts you want to manually move out of your library folder(into a disabled folder for backup). In previous version of Mac OS you could actually disable the fonts by the finder, very bad.  People often want to use my machine, because I have few font problems but will share what works. The Helvetica Neu & Arial being enabled is a long story.

  • Font Info in External CSS Files aren't being recognized or utilized

    I'm a front-end web developer. After I upgraded to the new Firefox, I checked two of my websites that I built.
    The font information in my CSS external files aren't being recognized so the fonts are coming in at the wrong sizes (that is...really LARGE). (However, it is recognizing placement of absolute positioned images.)

    Sounds like you did not properly define your site. Start
    there.

  • File retains font info, how can I delete it?

    When I open a file, FontAgent Pro will try and auto-activate fonts that I HAD used on the file, but am no longer.
    It looks like Photoshop is somehow hanging onto the old font info.
    Can I delete that information from the file?
    It is bothersome, because FontAgent Pro keeps turning on fonts that I don't really need.
    I clear my computer font cache, but I want to clear the file font cache.

    I'm not sure what the layers panel will show you, but here goes.
    I just tried to open this file and FontAgentPro told me it was auto-activating the font St. Nicholas.
    The font was probably used at some point in the files life, but it is not used on any of the type layers
    Here's the Layers Panel.

  • Change font size in an XML file

    I bought a template and this page is the text on the opening

    An XML file alone is pretty useless. For the Web there
    usually has to be
    a script or a stylesheet to turn the XML into HTML which a
    browser can
    understand. So check that stylesheet or whatever else there
    might be.

  • StarOffice 8 - finding all different font types in a Writer file

    Hello,
    I am currently using StarOffice 8 on a Windows XP system.
    I frequently transfer a large Writer (.odt) file between different computer systems as I constantly update the file with new information. As part of the updates, I use different fonts. As I install a particular font on one machine, this font may not be installed on another machine when I add new information to the file on that particular machine.
    When I open the Writer file on a machine that has some font not installed, the WYSIWYG appears incorrectly (since the proper font is not installed on that computer, of course) but if you highlight the incorrectly-displayed info, it says what the font type should be (ie, "WP Hebrew David" font). I then go online to download that specific font type for this the computer. Then the data is displayed correctly.
    When you have many, many different font types used in a file, it is hard to keep track of all different fonts used. Before anyone questions me on using so many different fonts in a file, it is important for my file to visually display the correct data, and this means using a quantity of fonts.
    What I am wondering is the following:
    Is there a way from within StarOffice 8 to scan a particular file and then let the user know every different font name used in that file?
    That way, if the file contains a font which was used on another machine but not currently installed on the current machine -- when I am updating information in the file -- I can then see a list of fonts used and then install new fonts accordingly after checking to see if they are installed (by checking the Fonts folder in C:/Windows)
    I hope this makes sense, or is it "clear as mud"?
    Please excuse my bad English grammar as I am not a native English speaker, but have picked it up living in Canada for the last 20 years :-)
    Cheers & thanks in advance for any help !

    There is a Fonts Used macro writer_printAllFonts.sxw Further checking this is the wrong StarBasic macro. The one I use came from an OOo forum I think. I use it with SO7, SO8 and SO9.

  • How to display the Get info window for a file or folder

    Hello,
    How can I display the Get Info window for a file or folder using Applescript - instead of selecting it in the finder and using Command-I ?
    Thanks.
    lenpartico

    The item property that the Get Info was opened for is read only, so it doesn't look like you can just throw a file path at it. You could do something like telling the Finder to reveal the item, then keystroke the command, e.g.:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    tell application "Finder"
    reveal "Path:to:your:file"
    activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events" to keystroke "i" using {command down}
    </pre>
    ... but this doesn't seem to be much different than the regular method. There are other methods to get various information, what are you wanting to do?
    Edit:
    Hmmm, I could have sworn (I do a lot of that these days) I tried Hiroto's method, but that does work. It still seems to be a roundabout way of doing something though.

    Actually, almost all (if not absolutely all) the PS CS2 web
    galleries
    generate XML files.
    The font info is included in the XML file because it's a user
    generated
    choice from a drop-down menu in the Web Gallery creation

    Photoshop writes it there in order to read it back in to
    whichever

  • Setting Font for converting multiple text files into PDF using VB 6.0

    Dear All,
    Am converting multiple text files into PDF using VB6.0. Currently, am unable to control the font face and size for the generated files. Below is the procedure am using for each file;

    1) to be able to set the font face of the destination file ( destFilename)
    2) to be able to set the font size of the destination file ( destFilename)
    Am using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Type Library
    Kindly Help.
    Thanks in advance

    We didn't say it doesn't work. We said it isn't supported.
    There are a number of other ways to make a PDF. The one which would
    give the most control is if your application directly printed to GDI,
    controlling the font directly. This could print to Adobe PDF.
    You could look for an application that gives control of font for
    printing.
    You could use a text-to-PostScript system and distill the result. You
    could even look for a non-Adobe text-to-PDF.
    Working in the unsupported and dangerous world you chose, the font
    size for text conversion is set (and this is very bad design from
    Adobe) in the settings for Create PDF > From Web Page. There is no API
    to this.

  • How do I save File Info in an MP3 file using audition 3.0

    Dear Anyone,
    I am worling on a project that is time sensitive. I have been helped on the markers/mp3 scenario.
    Thanks to ryanclark and jay moore.
    So that is done. But I have yet another issue with the MP3 file. Here it is:
    I filled in all the File Info, saved the MP3 file in audition 3.0. Then I burned the CD. When I opened
    the file up from the CD in Windows Media, there was no file information at all in there.
    So, I went back to the drawing board and filled out the File Info and XMP file, still the same thing.
    I can't seem to get any help on the help area of the Audition so here I am.
    Does anyone have the answer to this? I sure would appreciate it.
    thanks.

    See the other thread - the answer, such as it is, is in there now.

  • How do I get PSE to read tag info on updated jpg files?

    Using PSE9 on 2 PCs. Files are stored locally on each, and updates synced via Windows Mesh.
    Use case issue:
    1) Add tag to jpg on PC1 using PSE.
    2) Execute PSE "write to file" command before closing app
    3) Confirm on PC2 via Windows Explorer that tag info is updated on local file
    4) Open PSE on PC2, bur additional tag info is not recognized by PSE.
    5) Tried to re-import test files in PSE using "Get Files" function, but tag data was still not read by PSE.
    6) Manually added new tag to tag list, reloaded PSE, but new tag info still not read on file.
    7) Ran Optimize and Repair catalog functions, but problem persisits.
    How do I get PSE to read tag info on updated jpg files without rebuilding the entire catalog every time I edit a file?

    Simple : you can't.
    Why ? Because the tags are stored in the database of the catalog. When you 'write' metadata to files, you can see it does work. The new tags are written to the files. But the new tags are ignored by the catalog in the second computer. You'd have to delete the file entry from the catalog and reimport it, supposing the tag is already in the tag list. Otherwise the tag would appear in the 'imported tags' category.
    The Organizer is not meant to be a multi-user database.
    What you can do to share media and catalogs between two computers having the same Elements version is to store the media files and the catalog on an external drive you can plug to each computer when needed. Note that the drives should be recognized with the same drive letter.
