Font managers and CS5

Has anyone had any of the font managers work with CS5? I tried Font Agent and the plugin generates an error at statup.

Oh I figured that. I was just hoping that one of them might work. Seems like the FA Pro plugin worked between CS3 and CS4 with just a couple of minor problems.

  • Ant, mxmlc and font managers

My team is building an AIR application and we are using SVN and a Flex Ant task to compile it on a staging server.  I have a decent understanding of what each piece of the compilation process needs to run and got the AIR application compiled and packaged without too much hassle.
We recently switched fonts and require the command line switch '-managers=flash.fonts.AFEFontManager' in Flex Builder.  I've been reading about how to get this done and have found two solutions:
    1) Edit the file frameworks/flex-config.xml and change the order of the font managers.  This isn't a great solution because every time we upgrade the SDK on the server we'll have to go through and make this change again.  This process is described in the adobe livedocs http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=fonts_06.html
    2) Set it as a managers attribute in the ant build file as described here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/610386/how-to-include-additional-compiler-arguments-whe n-using-mxmlc-ant-task I can't seem to get this to work, I end up with an error like this:
    src/build.xml:75: The <mxmlc> type doesn't support the "compiler.fonts.managers" attribute.
I get the same error when I use the "managers" alias.
My question is what is the preferred method of reordering the font managers?  Thanks in advance!

I forgot to attach the relevant section of my build.xml, here it is:

  • Dynamic and shared TLF font help in CS5

I am simply trying to use a special font in Flash CS5 in a dynamic text field. This was so easy to do before CS5. I am not able to embed fonts in CS5 and have them work?
I am working on a large project and the time to relearn Flash each release, makes it not cost effective use anymore.

Then don't use the TLF textfields and just use the Classic textfields. They work the same way they used to.
So details would help. What kind of font? What kind of embedding? and...
... what kind of trouble are you having embedding fonts? I haven't done a lot with it, but the bit I have seems to be much more straight forward and easy to do.

  • Fonts different between CS3 and CS5 on Win7 system using the same fonts directory

I have several files created in Fireworks CS3 that work fine. Fonts are all  installed in the system directory on my Win7 box.  This used to be a WinXP Pro  box.
I can load a file into Fireworks CS3 without a single issue and the text all  looks perfect. The way it should.  Close CS3, open CS5 and load the same file  and CS5 tells me I have to update my fonts.  Why?  Same system, same fonts in  the same fonts directory. Only thing that's changed is that I'm opening the  file(s) in CS5.
The fonts do not look the same in CS5.  Am I going to have to redo every  Fireworks CS3 file so that it looks correct in CS5? If so, why?
    -- Bob
Here's a sample image the way it's supposed to look. The Swift gets hosed. PlazaDUtil is the font. I'd hate to have to redo all my logo files.

Prior to CS4 Fireworks used the Macromedia type engine. From CS4 forward, adobe introduced the adobe type engine to improve text handling/integration between FW AI and PS. As a result moving CS3 files over to cs4 forces FW to update the fonts.

  • Fontproblems and fontcaches in Illustrator CS4 and CS5

    Hello all,
I've been having a serious and severe problem using Ilustrator and fonts.
As this is a very complex problem to explain, I'll try to make it easy to understand.
First I'll tell you the specifications and software used:
Imac 27 inch running  MAC OS X 10.6.7 with follow software:
    Illustrator CS4 + Illustrator CS5, both installed
Fontreserve (running a central server and macs connect through a MAC-client) http://www.extensis.com/en/support/font-reserve.jsp
So we use an external third party fontsoftware to manage and activate our fonts used in Illustrator.
We only have the required system fonts installed on our systems.
We recently ran in a big issue concerning fonts within Illustrator.
I'll try to explain what the problem really is ...
So normally we boot up Illustrator and we activate our fonts in fontreserve.
The fonts get loaded in Illustrator. So that does work like it should.
But the problem begins when we deactivate fonts.
Font reserve does deactivate them and in Illustrator the deactivated fonts are gone or so it seems ...
After a restart, I only start Illustrator. So our client fontreserve stays closed.
I opened the job I worked on before the restart and Illustrator opens the document and loads the fonts.
You read it right, Illustrator does find all the fonts which, before the restart, were deactivated.
Where does he gets those fonts?
So I started to investigate and tried a couple of things.
    1) I physically moved the fontreserve-plugin out Illustrator so it will not be loaded on startup.
That didn't fix it because Illustrator still finds the fonts.
    2) I physically plugged out the network cable to be sure Illustrator could not contact our fontserver.
Sadly he still did find the fonts.
    3) I used "Tweak Freak" to clear my fontcaches. I also searched for "AdobeFnt" to clean out the cache from Adobe itself.
    This did not work either.
    4) I tried opening the document again but this time in CS5. And guess what? Illustrator CS5 asks for all the fonts that are missing, which is correct because not one font has been activated.
Strangly enough I decided to reopen Illustrator CS4 (Illustrator CS5 still beiing open as well), and suddenly Illustrator CS4 asks for the fonts too?
A minute ago he still found all the fonts and after opening Illustrator CS5, it does not ...
So Adobe what is the connection between Illustrator CS4 and CS5?
And where does Illustrator store its fontcache?
It would be nice to run a script on shutdown te delete all possible fontcaches.
So after spending a couple of hours fixing this problem, it seems that I still don't quite understand where the problem lies.
    I'm hoping you can.
As this is an urgent matter, I hope to get an answer or support as soon as possible.
    Thanks in advance.

You should be able to see what files Adobe Illustrator has open by using the Activity Monitor.app application.
To do so, open the Activity Monitor application (it's in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder). Locate Adobe Illustrator in the list and then double-click on it. This should open up a new window like shown in the image below:
Switch to the Open Files and Ports tab, and it should list every open file that Illustrator is using.

  • Problem with MathType and CS5 due to InDesign

We publish Math and Science curriculum and we run into the problem below.
the second bullets is imported wrong in CS5. Is there a work around? (I also emailed Design Science). We'd rather use CS5 since all our other subjects are done in CS5 and we want to be able to use spanning across columns which does not exist in CS4.
The same happens when using MT Extra instead of Euclid Extra.

BTW, Jongware, I was a bit unfair about the fonts. You can sign up for the 30-day free trial of Mathtype and then you get the fonts. Furthermore, the strong implication is that you need not delete them after the trial period is over, and therefore you also can extract them from the installer for use like this with no compunctions (which is what I did). Source: MathType: Font Installers.
redesign: Moving right along, just like Jongware, when I open your CS4 document in CS4, I see the same behavior Jongware saw and the same behavior you saw in CS5 (which I also see in CS5), namely the goofy circle glyph (seems to be GID 64 and U+F069):
I did have to turn on high-resolution previews, though otherwise I got something else entirely.
I notice, however, that you seem to have authored this file using some 3rd party plugins:
Since that seems to be a math-related plugin, it doesn't seem inconceivable that it is part of the issue.
I suggest you disable it and re-test in CS4.
The font does seem a bit goofy...The goofy circle glyph appears in FontForge, as a ccwcontourcircle, but not in
standard Mac font apps, like TextEdit. It's also the 'i' position in the font.
I don't know enough about fonts to dig and really figure out why you get one character when it is first and another when it is second, but I really don't think this is InDesign. Oh, right, let's look at the EPS file in another program...
Curiously, Preview.app indeed shows the bullet glyph in the first position (and in the second).
Adobe Illustrator, which I opened by accident (ha!), shows ccwcontourcircles.
So it seems that Apple and Adobe's EPS renderers treat this font differently.
I suppose it might be an Adobe bug, but I'm more inclined to suspect its ambiguous... The way the ccwcontourcircle is encoded seems strange to me.
Well, I think that's enough for me. Basically, Jongware and I see consistent behavior with CS4 and CS5 — oh, actually. Are you using CS4 and CS5 on the same machine? Or on different machines? Because...I suspect this is handled by the AGM library, and it may well be that using CS4 on a machine with CS5 makes it use CS5's AGM library. But that might not be true at all, just speculation.
Anyhow, I'm not sure what Jongware's newfound Adobe Support optimism is based on. I suspect you'll hear from Design Science in the next day or two, and maybe from Adobe by September. But perhaps I am too pessimistic on Adobe Support right now.
I suppose making it consistently ccwcountour doesn't help you overmuch though. Hrmm.

  • Armenian fonts installed and show up in Photoshop, but they don't work.

    Hi,
I have a Mac OSX 10.6.8 running on Snow Leopard. I have Photoshop CS5. I installed about 10 different Armenian fonts (ttf file extensions) and unzipped them. I double clicked them all and installed them into my Font Book. They appear in Final Cut Pro and in Adobe Photoshop, but they do not work. I previously installed the Armeast font and that is the only font that will work in both programs. If I highlight my text and switch to any of the other Armenian fonts--ArmScript, Mshtakan, etc., it will just jump back to the default Armeast font. And the other Armenian fonts--ArmArt, ArmScool, Araratn, Arial ArmenianNew are listed as Latin characters "Sample." I really hate the default Armeast font and there are so many beautiful fonts I would rather be using. Is there any way to enable them to work in Photoshop? I have read through other threads and I couldn't find what I was looking for to answer my question.
    Thank you very much,
    m

Have you found any solution for it yet? please let me know if you did.

  • I do I make all fonts from Windows/Fonts available to CS5 ?

It used to be that I very rarely used fonts within CS5 but recently I have.  I realized that all of the fonts supposedly included with CS5 are not available via my drop down menu.
I then found these fonts in Windows/fonts so I copied all of those fonts into Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts.  These unavailble fonts are now listed in that folder but are still not available via the dropdown menu in PS CS5.
I've recently read that the fonts don't really even NEED to be in the Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts folder and that PS should actually make all of the fonts in Windows/Fonts available via the dropdown menu.  Yes, I have restarted PS after copying the files and also tried rebooting my PC after copying the files.  The fonts are still not available via the drop down text menu within PS even though all of them are now in both locations.
Can anyone help me with this problem?  Thanks!

Sometimes the font names are shown with slightly different names in windows, depending on the program.
For example, in photoshop cs5 if you scroll the font list almost to the bottom, do you see a font named Kozuka Gothic Pr6N
I believe that is the same as the KozGoPr6N font(s) listed in the windows font folder.
The different font styles (Bold, Heavy, Light etc.) are listed under the font styles drop-down just to the right of the font list in the tool options bar.
I believe the font menu in photoshop cs5 sorts/shows the fonts by script.
This script might make it easier to indentify the fonts as shown in photoshop with the names shown in the windows fonts folder.

  • Selection properties panel -  edit font type and font size

"selection properties" bottom panel -  edit font type and font size
    In design view
i can no longer find this option in CS5,
how can i change font type and font size of highlighted/selected block of text? like previous DW versions ?
by switching to CSS from html in "selection properties" bottom panel.
i see an option to do that using CSS. Is this the only option now ?
    Thanks a lot for help.

What happened if on some pages of my site, there are JS code inserted to display content pulled from other remote host.
Will my own page or site CSS font setting override the JS code font & size setting as well ?
or those JS code can display content using their font selection setting independently ?
    >> Yes. In fact it not only does it for the page you're working on, but for the whole site (that's the advantage of CSS vs properties)

  • Why can't I get open type features to work properly with an open type font on InDesign CS5.5?

I installed a very complete set of styles of an opentype font with Font Book – Mac OS X 10.9.4 – but when I tried to format a sample text on InDesign CS5.5 I noticed that I could not use the opentype features on the Open Type menu as I usually do.
    Could anyone help me, please?

It's ffScala Sans, but has separate files for small caps, figures, etc.
I was trying to use small caps, lining figures and superscripts when I
noticed none of the OT features are available.

  • Font issue in CS5

I'm currently using Vista with CS3 and considering upgrading to Windows 7 and CS5. Is there a font issue with the Windows7/CS5 combination? I had to buy a third party font manager when I upgraded to Vista and would like to know if CS5 fixed the problem.

Can you be more specific keeping in mind that this forum is for SUITE SPECIFIC issue only.
If you have a question about a specific application please post in the appropriate forum.
Note: Do not do an inplace upgrade from Vista to Win7. You should only do a clean install after backing up all of your data and deactivating your software.
If you decide to upgrade make sure you buy the proper package. For Design Premium you must buy the CS2/CS3 to CS5 upgrade: http://amzn.to/9Vltbt

  • Indesign CS5 and CS5.5 crash on new document / Lion 10.7

    Hello!
In our agency we encountered a problem since upgrading to OS X Lion 10.7. Both our Indesign CS5 and CS5.5 keep crashing on us whetver we open an existing document or create a new one. We tried to clean-up our installations, deleted both, installed just CS5 and/ CS5.5 - trashed preferences etc. pp. Nothing worked.
Indesign opens like it should - but the moment we create a document it just hangs with the spinning ball - does anyone else can recreate the issue? We use no plugins in indesign only the app "Fontcase" from the Appstore to maintain our collection of fonts.. but we even tried to deactivate this app to see if it helps - no success.
We currently cant set up the system new since it is time consuming and just our last choice.. is there some other way to find the problem? We also never see the adobe crash-reporter.. not even after 10-15 minutes as stated in the lion os x issue list.
    Thanks!

    Ah, this is easy.

Often after using Encore CS4 and/or Premiere Pro CS4 I try to shut down my computer but I ger error messages about Font Capture and Photoshopserver.exe. Any ideas?

    Hey Sneedbreedley,
I do have the same problem with Premiere Pro CS4 running on a PC (Windows XP Prof. 32-bit SP3)
It crashes randomly. My system meets all minimum requirements. Tried to reproduce the error, but no chance. I updated all drivers and Adobe updates, but nothing changed.
I am editting in a "Sony XDCAM EX 1080p" Sequence using material from the PMW-EX1 and Canon EOS 7D. The material of the 7D causes a lot more crashes than the EX footage.
In adition to the Font Capture error I get also this error:
    Premiere Pro Debug Event:
    [...Src\RemoteImporterModule.cpp-282]
    and
    PhotoshopServer.exe - Error in Application:
... "0x00a8cacc" directing to memory in "0x00000014". ..."read" couldn´t access the memory.
Does somebody have any ideas? I searched the web for some time no, but couldn´t find any solutions. Even if it isn´t Adobe´s fault, they should figure out the issue, because there are severel users having the same problem. I am thinking to update to CS5, but I actually would like to put my energy into my work and not into any system issues.

  • Can someone help me troubleshoot font installation for CS5?

I have gone through installation of the fonts through Windows and then copy/pasted the fonts into the Programs/Common Files/Adobe/Fonts Recommended (and Fonts Required) folders. My Adobe Illustrator still does not recognize them and tells me I have an unrecognizable font in my files. Please help.

I wish I could say that worked - they are still not visible / useable to me in the Adobe products. What else can I do to fix this?
