Font mapping confusion

Regularly use FM7.2 to dtp multilingual documents. All these documents use the WinXP truetype Arial font with multilingual support, eg Arial Baltic, Arial Greek, Arial CE, Arial CYR, Arial EE, etc.
Have recently upgraded to CS3 versions of Illustrator, In-Design and also installed FM8.0 to try out before fully committing.
Have to make further adjustments to an FM7.2 document in Russian that used Arial CYR (truetype). Cannot now open this document and get characters to display properly. If I install a cyrillic postscript font and reformat document to use this font, it will then display correctly.
Under normal circumstances this would be impossible. How can FrameMaker remap the characters from WinXP truetype+multilingual support to a postscript font? Cannot now open any documents correctly that use the system truetype fonts with multilang support.
Need help urgently to resolve as cannot reformat client docs to use postscript instead of truetype fonts.

Thanks for keeping on top of this one.
Have already done thorough check of codepage fonts. These entries all in registry along with Courier, Times New Roman, Arial Narrow, etc.
Remember having to do this manually a few years back, IIRC something to do with MSWord not displaying CYR, Greek, CE, etc.
Should have said before, am using WinXP SP2 and ATM Deluxe.
All WinXP truetype fonts stay in the Windows\Fonts folder. All postscript fonts are kept in psfonts folder.
Whenever installing new programmes or updates, the Windows\Fonts folder tends to fill up, so I always move the postscript fonts out to the psfonts folder and have also created a separate tt_fonts folder to store all the truetype fonts (except for WinXP fonts). ATM Deluxe activates both postscript and truetype fonts (without copying font to Windows\Fonts directory). The only fonts ATM does not handle are OpenType fonts with ".otf" as it does not recognise these so they have to be manually copied to Fonts folder to activate.
The only recent changes made to my system were CS3 upgrades and installation of FM8. Upgraded to Acrobat 8 a few months ago and the only immediate setback experienced was pdf bookmarks incorrectly displaying the multilang headings workaround for this was to copy heading directly from pdf document and paste into bookmark.
If all the CS3 products and FM8 recognise the full (unicode) character set of "Arial" truetype (now opentype), could there be other registry changes that affect the way FM7.2 maps in the characters?
Have always kept tight control of fonts, do not allow font substitution and whenever creating pdf have 'set to cancel' if it cannot find font.
Have been trawling though Adobe database and forums attempting to find out what to try next.

  • Report fonts mapping and PDF output problem(Easten European languages)

    Hi experts,
    I have such a problem.
    If i run oracle reports(10g) via reports builder all layouts looks fine.
    When i run them in PDF format via application server - report text and numbers strech out off frames, also textfields and text itself becomes bigger in size.
    Aplication server runs over windows OS.
    Uifont.ali file looks:
    [ PDF:Subset ]
    Arial..Italic.Bold.. = "Arialbi.ttf"
    Arial...Bold.. = "Arialbd.ttf"
    Arial..Italic... = "Ariali.ttf"
    Arial..Plain... = "Arial.ttf"
    Arial..... = "Arial.ttf"
    "Times New Roman"...Bold.. = "TIMESBD.TTF"
    "Times New Roman"..Italic... = "TIMESI.TTF"
    "Times New Roman"..... = "TIMES.TTF"
    I think the problem is with Lithuanian(baltic) letters in the text. If i do not map fonts in uifont.ali file i get PDF report without the
    lithuanian alphabet letters, but in this case it looks fine(The same as in report builder)
    After fonts mapping, i get my lithuanian alphabet letters, but text and numbers strech out off frames, changes the size and etc.
    I put the example of my report uotput:
    http://pirmas.50webs.com/index.html
    What else can i do to solve this problem?
    Thanks for any suggestions

    For the html output issue , there is a patch available on top of 9021. Please contact your Oracle support representative to get a 90211 patch nd apply the one-off patch of Bug 2472932.
    For PDF, please ensure that you are setting the NLS_LANG in the server config file using the dynamic environment switch feature introduced in 90 patch 1 (9021). Please see the patch 1 release notes for the details

  • Font mapping in Forms 10g on Unix/Linux

    Hello,
    does anybody have a adea how font mapping in forms 10g works on Unix/Linux.
    As far as I know I do have to have a X-Server running on the node so that forms can mapp java fonts, is this true?
    What configuration options do I have on the server.
    Can I differ strictly between development tasks (consideration of developer) and admin tasks ([configuration]considerations of Application Server Admin) referring font mapping in forms 10g?
    Is there any "Best Practices to this subject?
    Thank you.
    Regards
    Frank

    Hello Frank,
    - fontmapping takes place in Registry.dat file?!
    - According to your article "Forms: Using custom fonts in Oracle Forms Services 10g" I only have to customize fontmapping in Registry.dat file.
    -Customer developes on MS-Client and uses Arial,but is surprised about displayed font, which is´nt Arial.
    -Can I just customize font mapping in Registry.dat as follows (according your example)?
    default.fontMap.appFontnames=x,y,Arial
    default.fontMap.javaFontnames=u,v.Arial
    What do we have to consider on client site?
    What´s about java on client (JInitiator)?
    Regards

  • Fonts mapping in the browser

    Hi all,
    Another question. I have developed some forms which have some dedicated fonts used. It runs smoothly in the client/server mode (as well as the font type). However, once I put it on the web, the fonts type differs from what I expected.
    Some documentations say that we need to modify the browser registry, developer registry, formsweb.cfg, base.htm, basejini.htm and the registry.dat, but it seems it soes not work. How can I achieve this?
    Sorry for my poor English.
    Thanks,
    Patrick.

    I have a similar problem. My forms are built with 'MS Sans Serif' and they display with a different font in the browser ('Dialog' I guess).
    I have tried to change this font mapping by editing registry.dat (as suggested by the manual and other Oracle gurus in the forum) replacing 'Dialog' with 'Symbol' to see the results. The output is the same!
    Has anyone managed to successfully change the font mapping of the forms?
    (I am using Windows Developer Server 6i patch3a)

  • Font Mapping not working in Flash

    I am editing a flash file that was created by a mac and I use
    windows. Upon opening I recieve a message stating 'Some text uses
    fonts not installed on your system'. When I open the dialog box
    FONT MAPPING and select one of the missing fonts (i.e.Helvetica 65
    Medium) and use the pull down menu SUBSTITUTE FONT my Helvetica 65
    Medium that I have in a fonts folder in my Flash application folder
    does not show. Does anyone know why?

    Some fonts do not have recordable outlines. This is,
    apparently, the situation with the font that you are trying to
    embed. If you can get back to the Mac where this started, you can
    import the font into your movie's library. Then the font is yours
    on either platform.

    Hi All,
    I was able to do font mapping for Arial Unicode MS font (.ttf) in BIP version 10.1.3.4.
    But after applying the patch 10256764 I am not able to see the Arial Unicode MS font in the Font Selection drop down box in BIP .
    I have copied some other .ttf fonts to the .\ jre\lib\fonts folder and they are appearing in the BIP
    Does BIP patch 10256764 not support Arial Unicode MS font ?
    Please help me...

  • XSL-FO Barcode Font Mapping

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to use a barcode font (IDAutomationHC39M.ttf) inside a XSL-FO template (Standard Purchase Order Template). I already loaded the font and created the mapping using XML Publisher Administration Configuration, but I still cannot see the font being displayed on the PDF format. I did the reference in the code, e.g.:
    <fo:block>
    <fo:inline>Order Number: </fo:inline>
    <fo:inline font-family="IDAutomationHC39M">404</fo:inline>
    </fo:block>
    but, it didn't work. I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. I thought it was going to be just reference the font. I would really appreciate any possible help because this is a last minute request of the client and we will be soon going to production.
    Thanks,
    Hugo

    I am having the same problem here. Were you able to create the font mapping? Once I click the apply button, I get an error message.

  • [SOLVED] TeXLive: Installing font package and updating font map fails

    I am trying to install the newtx package, which is available here at CTAN [1].
    Since I don't want to mess with my TeXLive installation, I am trying to do that as a local user only.
    So I placed the package into ~/texmf/tex/latex/. , ran texhash on texmf/ to update my local ls-R, and so far everything works nicely; for example, the .sty files in that package can be seen:
    $ texhash texmf
    texhash: Updating /home/$USER/texmf/ls-R...
    texhash: Done.
    $ kpsewhich newtxmath.sty
    /home/$USER/texmf/tex/latex/newtx/newtxmath.sty
    Now, following the packages README [2], I need to update the my TeX font maps. Seems like 'updmap' is the right tool to do that for my user only:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map
    copy /etc/texmf/web2c/updmap.cfg => /home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg
    Config file: "/home/$USER/.texlive/texmf-config/web2c/updmap.cfg"

    ntx.map
    Did you run mktexlsr?
    You can delete non-existent map entries using the option
    --syncwithtrees.
    That's my problem: it can't find ntx.map, although I ran mktexlsr (which is texhash). So what to do?
    1: http://www.ctan.org/pkg/newtx
    2: http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/mirrors/CTAN … wtx/README
    SOLUTION: The trick consists in placing all files into the necessary folders: *.map goes to fonts/map/newtx/, *.vf to fonts/vf/newtx/, and *.tfm to fonts/tfm/newtx/. Also, *.pfb needs to be placed in fonts/pfb/newtx/. *.enc files go to fonts/enc/newt/, and everything else remains in tex/latex/newtx/.

    ConnorBehan wrote:Oh it's part of the mlocate package. It will search your entire filesystem for a filename but there are other programs that do the same. I just meant, can you find ntx.map yourself? If so, you could put it in a new directory or let tex know with the TEXINPUTS environment variable.
    I really don't think that this makes a lot of sense as regards TeXlive; I have checked (with kpsewhich --var-value) if indeed all variables TEXMFHOME, TEXMFVAR, and TEXMFCONFIG are pointing to reasonable places, and indeed they do.
    I have found this guide:
    http://people.debian.org/~preining/TeX/ … n/ch4.html
    Although it is Debian, I figure one can easily adapt it. So I tried that, and placed ntx.map in TEXMFHOME/fonts/map/$SYNTAX/newtx/ntx.map . I wasn't sure about $SYNTAX, so I just tried it with dvips. This time, $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map did actually work, and there were not errors:
    $ updmap --enable Map=ntx.map

  • Frame8 Distiller Worked; Frame9 Distiller Font Map is Incorrect

    I have been using FrameMaker 8 with a custom AT&T font set, ClearviewATT without incident.  I am evaluating FrameMaker 9, but when I Save as PDF, the Distiller produces PDF files with all bold and italic text as Times New Roman.  This is unacceptable.
    The fonts are properly installed in my C:\WINDOWS\Fonts directory.
    The actual font files are:
    ClearviewATT Bold
    ClearviewATT Bold Italic
    ClearviewATT Book
    ClearviewATT Book Italic
    ClearviewATT Light
    ClearviewATT Light Italic
    Within FrameMaker, these fonts appear as ClearviewATT and ClearviewATT LT.
    We use ClearviewATT for body text, and the LT version for all bold and italic text.
    The Distiller’s font mapping appears to be failing.
    I spent a full searching Adobe Help and Google for a solution, and have tried three suggestions, but have not found a solution.
    1. Apply a Microsoft HotFix to allow more memory for the Distiller. There was no apparent effect.
    2. Copy the fonts to the to C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker9\fminit\fonts\adobe directory. . There was no apparent effect.
    3. Print to a PDF converter. This preserves the fonts but does not give us bookmarks (required).
    Do you have any ideas for me? FrameMaker 9 is worthless if I can't create bookmarked PDFs with AT&T's fonts.

    Sheila,
    I have FrameMaker Version 9.0p255
    I'm using Windows XP Pro, I don't know what service packs
    FrameMaker 8 and 9 call up Acrobat 7.0 Distiller Professional Version 7.1.0 4/23/2008
    Is there a FrameMaker Distiller?  If so, how do I get/use it?
    Thanks,
    - Derrick

  • Font mapping problem

    Hi,
    I'm away and on a colleagues Mac ( OSX 10.6.8 ) Running Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS6.
    Doing a little artworking for them. When I fired up Illustrator... the font mapping on the keyboard is screwy. Type an A, get a K etc...
    The settings on both the Mac and Illustrator are set up for British UK. Photoshop is fine, as is the Mac.
    Only Illustrator is acting up. Question is... is this a known bug and what can I do about it.
    Many thanks in avdance,

    Do you have any system preference or startup otpion that is set to exclude illustrator?
    I think something like this was once posted?

    How can I get Flash CS4 to remember the fonts I have substituted?
    Thanks,
    ...Rowby

    I don't have CS4, but if it hasn't changed since CS3, if you read the warning that opens that font mapping you will probably see that it does not save the substituted fonts in the file.  To get the fonts truly substituted you need to find the intances that use the fonts (shown in parentheses when missing) and select the new font.

  • How do I suppress the Font Mapping alert?

    How do I suppress the Font Mapping alert?
    We're using a Font Library fla, and the alert blocks the compiler, which blocks our build.
    Let's say you have main.fla and fonts.fla. Main.fla doesn't have the font included in it (we don't want to bloat it). But this causes the Font Mapping dialog to come up.
    Because it requires user interaction, this blocks our build from running.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Casey

    Hi Casey,
    Would you mind reposting this question over on the Flash Professional forums (http://adobe.ly/XnCf1)?  This forum is primarily for end users, the Pro forums will get you in touch with a wider developer audience.

  • Font mapping issue (Flash CS6)

    How do I fix this issue?

    No, I mean to find the preferences file and throw it in the trash. Then re-start Flash.

  • Font mapping in Oracle 6i Report Server

    Dear All,
    I am creating a report which is required to display the Palatino Linotype font in the PDF format by using the Report Builder in MS Windows XP.
    After deploy to Oracle 6i report server which is running in Solaris, I was facing a problem to generate a PDF report in Palatino font. After a few tries to configure the uifont.ali I'm still failed to get the PDF report to display the font correctly.
    Below is the setting that I had been done, that is under the PDF section I had added in the mapping.
    [ PDF ]
    "Palatino Linotype" = palatino
    #"Times New Roman" = Times
    #"Courier New" = Courier
    #"Times Roman" = Times
    Could anyone help on this. Thanks in Advanced.

    The servlet runs on the server and only call the Reports 6i CGI. It isn't a true servlet in Reports 6i. I configured my servers to run reports 6i as a servlet and it was terrible. It crashed several times. After opening a tar with Oracle, I found that running Reports 6i as a servlet is a waste of time because it still uses the CGI to run the Report.
    Do a search on for a topic of "Configuring Apache Web Server".
    "The recommended way to use a web client in Reports 6i is cgi since 6i Report servlet essentially calls the c-code only inside and does not offer a true servlet based architectural benefit. 9iAS Rel-2 offers a true Servlet based architecture and offers much more performance and scalability gains for the user plus with all the new Reports 9i features."
