Font mark up

Hi there, does anyone know of a plug-in to produce a font mark-up in Indesign? I currently type all of mine out for each font that appears within my document for a laser brief. Thanks

You mean something like this
Script or plug-in to display fonts

  • Chinese font issue

Does anyone has experience with Chinese font?
I wish to use Kai Ti font for the text and Hei Ti font for the title. In iBooks Author, it seems that I can choose Marker Felt and it will show Kai Ti. But when it is shown on iPad, I will see Kai Ti for a brief moment, then the font will be changed! Is there any safe font to use for Kai Ti and Hei Ti?
Here's what happened on iBooks Author and when shown in iBook.

Just discovered that Chinese font Kai Ti is there, but still need to be accessible via an English font (Marker Felt)?
Se the title. But it only seems to work in this case though - prove that Kai Ti is indeed in iPad itself.
A more likely explanation (since no list of fonts for iOS includes Kaiti) is that the Title has been transformed into an image during the publishing process.  But more research is needed.....

  • Scrolling through actual Font designs

    Dear Experts,
One small detail I particularly liked about AppleWorks, was that when scrolling through the Fonts in any document, the Font names were displayed in their actual design.
Is it possible to have this practical, time saving feature in iWorks.
    JP

    The Font Window in Pages.
What I do like about this feature, is that having regular use fonts marked as favourites in a small window, is good ... But wouldn’t it be better if it met the old AppleWorks 6 method sort of half-way ... Such as having those favourites appear (in their actual style/form) in a scrollable list with say, a right-click or two key sequence right in the document ... Or wherever the cursor happens to be in the document ... Or am I just being too picky.
One of the main selling points of iWorks is surely how it looks, that interaction between user and beautiful graphics. So why have the Fonts listed in a rather dull way. I imagine even ‘The Steve’, who I guess is also a bit of a Font fan, would agree.

  • Font book - window pop up that says bad font

So I got my mac back after the harddrive was erased so it was brand new. I uploaded a bunch of fonts from before and I was trying to install them all. Then my computer got slower and when I would start my mac a window would pop up saying BAD FONT so I would go to the direct place and erase the font.
Is there a way to restart font book to its old settings before installing font?
or know how to find all bad fonts?
I validated the file from library-fonts and my font folder i brought in and erased the ones that had a x saying error but I still get the window.
and what is the normal amount of fonts we can have active.
also when I click on disable I don't see a difference.
I just erased the font folder I had brought in and there is no different in the amount of fonts in font book.
sorry for the questions, hope I make sense.
    thanks
I had posted this in macbook pro but cmcsk told me about posting here in hopes that I could get more help.

    Here's a great article for you . . .
It's a little long, but the most important stuff about the fonts you need
is in the first 25% of the article. The article, by Kurt Lang, will tell you which fonts you really need, etc.
    http://www.jklstudios.com/misc/osxfonts.html
The only thing still giving me pause, is you statement that you're clicking on the "Mac HD
from the computer." If you are seeing the icon the Mac, and the word "computer" totally
within the Font Book pane, then that's fine to delete fonts marked with a warning.
Just make sure you read the beginning of the article first, OK?

  • Default Font -- how to change

Just installed Yosemite; and I was wondering if there was any way to change the menu font back from this (which is some kind of Helvetica) to the old one (I think it was Lucinda Grande).  Is there any way to do this?

You can't, it's hard wired into the OS. Though I did recently read a site where you copy the fonts they have for anyone to download into the root Library folder, and those fonts are then used by the OS. Basically, they're a copy of Lucida Grande.
However, it will be hit or miss because all they did was deliberately create a font conflict. They took Lucida Grande fonts and changed the internal names (the names any OS actually uses, not the file names) and made those identical to the internal names of Helvetica Neue DeskInterface.
As the OS loads on a startup or restart, the System fonts will of course be read and used first. As the startup continues, it then loads any fonts marked as active by your font manager in the root Library folder, then the Fonts folder in your user account.
Now the problem (or trick, however you want to look at it). The OS has already loaded the real Helvetica Neue DeskInterface font. Now it reads another set of fonts with the exact same names in the Library folder. The OS has to decide what to do with the font conflicts. Usually, the next set of fonts will bounce the first set for order or preference, and you'll see the conflicting font rather than the first font with those names. But a conflict is a conflict and one of two things, or both, will always happen:
    1) On a restart, a conflict is always a conundrum. Which one is the OS supposed to use? Since you can't tell it what to use, it makes an arbitrary decision. So one startup may use the conflicting font you want to see, the next may not.
    2) It's a fixed conflict in RAM the entire time the computer is running. Some menus may appear using Helvetica Neue DeskInterface, others in the pseudo Lucida Grande font, all in the same boot session. Some may appear with no text at all where it should since the OS is continually trying to figure out which same named fonts to use.

  • The Bad Font thread...

    Hi guys,
I just went through more than a thousand fonts, just to find that one that was messing up my browser.
    Guilty font: "Mark"
I deactivated it and now everythings cool again.
I searched this forum at first but found that several users had problems with different fonts. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to group all "bad fonts" together in one thread. This could all spare us some valuable time. Post as you wish...
    Greetz!

    a THOUSAND thank you's...
thanks for the tip. My bad font was Arial. Seems strange since it's a common font, but deactivating it did the trick. It was so frustrating for weeks because I couldn't read basic text on some sites, but never had time to research the problem...
This is my first time exploring this forum, and it seems pretty helpful! Although Safari sounds like a nightmarish program for a lot of people. Other than this issue, mine works great - knock on wood!
    So, thanks!

  • Typekit web fonts only partially load in IE

I'm having some troubles getting Typekit web fonts to work well with Internet Explorer. Occasionally the fonts will load just fine, sometimes the fonts won't load at all, and sometimes the fonts will only partially load where parts of the site will have the correct fonts and other sections will not. Again this is only with IE 9-11. Every other browser works fine. I'm hoping someone on the forums may be able to lead me in the right direction. I've emailed the support email on the typekit website twice and after waiting several days I fear they won't be getting back to me. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.
This is an image of it working in Chrome.
    Image Not working in IE
Now fonts working after refreshing the page twice

    Hi linseyfree,
I am sorry that you've been having trouble with your font loading! We didn't receive an email from you in Typekit Support; I will look into what happened there.
I have been emailing with one of your colleagues (Tom S), however, and I believe this problem has been sorted out.  If you still see trouble with the font loading, however, please run the tests at the end of this post in IE 9 or 10 and we can look into it further for you.
    Best,

Use the web developer tools in the browser to look at your site's assets, and take a screenshot of the timeline for Typekit.
    1. Clear your site cache so that the Typekit files are requested from the network again.
    2. Select the network tab in the developer tools and keep it open.
    3. Go to the page that's giving you trouble. Verify that it loads and that the fonts still aren't loading properly.
    4. In the network tab, scroll down until you find the requests from Typekit; there should be a JavaScript file and a CSS file.
    > take a screenshot
    5. Select the JS filename, then select the Headers tab that appears.
    6. Resize the window so that all header info rows are visible.
    > take a screenshot
    7. Select the HTML tab.  Is the font marked as "wf-active" in the font events on the HTML tag?

  • How I successfully upgraded from iPhoto '09 to iPhoto '11 - Glitch Free.

I've been eagerly reading the forums PRIOR to installing iPhoto '11 and I'm about to dive in. I have an iMac 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 6GB RAM running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.4.
I'm currently running iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2) with 1403 events, 41,133 photos, 24 Faces and 29 Places. I have dozens of Albums and Smart Albums, Mobile Me Galleries, as well as 5 Keepsakes-3 cards and 2 books. The library itself is 185 GB in size and resides in an Admin User account in /Users/User/Pictures
Here is what I've done PRIOR to installing iPhoto '11
    _*Fixed Permissions:*_
    1. Holding down OPTION+COMMAND keys and then launching iPhoto '09 and selecting "Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions." I also rebuilt the small thumbnails but nothing else.
    2. Opening disk utility and repairing disk permissions on Macintosh HD
    3. Downloaded BatChmod and changed all the permissions as suggested in the links below. Initially the checkmark for apply to enclosed folders and files was not available. I selected another file then returned and it was available.
Also my permissions for the iPhoto library (and a quick survey of the package contents -right click with mouse to do this) were set to Read Write for my User account, for Group (_unknown in my case) and for Everyone without running BatChmod. Select your iPhoto library and press COMMAND+I to check this. I chose to run BatChmod anyways to ensure every file was indeed wide open as far as permissions go.
    http://www.macchampion.com/arbysoft/ *-BatChmod link*

    http://iphoto11.wordpress.com/
    _*Repaired Fonts*_
    1. Opened Font Book and selected all the fonts then from the menus:
    -Edit > Resolve Duplicates
    -File > Validate Fonts
I then deleted the most severely affected fonts marked with red. I still had several marked yellow "minor problems were found. Proceed with caution."
    Backups
    1. Time Machine Backup on External Drive, plus another Time Machine Backup on another drive but it's about a week out of date.
    2. Copy of iPhoto '09 application on a different External Drive then the Time Machine Backup (Usually found at the folder /Applications)
    3. Copy of iPhoto '09 library folder on a different External Drive then the Time Machine Backup (Usually found in the folder /Users/User/Pictures )
This way I've got two ways of going backwards to iPhoto 09 if necessary - using the Time Machine backups (which appears to be painful for some) and failing that option simply dragging back actual untouched copies of iPhoto '09.app and iPhoto '09 library with photos, preferences, keepsakes, events etc all intact. (iPhoto '11 makes changes to the iPhoto '09 library files and removes the '09 app as well).
I then turned off Time Machine to prevent it from backing up further.
    Install
Then in went the iLife '11 disc. No problems with the installation. After the install I *immediately opened Software Update from the Apple menu, and did not open iPhoto.*
iPhoto Update 9.1 came up and I installed it. A restart was not required but I did one anyways. Interestingly enough when I did a COMMAND+I to get info on the new iPhoto '11 library it showed different permissions of User -read/write, and Everyone -read/write. No groups listed.
I then opened iPhoto '11 and got the following message with the options to Quit or Upgrade. I clicked Upgrade.
" *The photo library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto* Your photo library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process for very large libraries may take an hour or more to complete."
My fairly _*large 185 GB library took 28 minutes to upgrade*_ and showed a progress bar as well as the monochromatic spinning wheel.
Success! All of my photos, events, places and albums, smart albums, MobileMe books and cards and slideshows are present and I can even edit a book I started. My iPhoto library is the same size give or take a MB.
Was all this necessary? We'll never know. I certainly wouldn't expect a first time Mac user to do the BatChmod steps or the Font Book steps, or even the Permissions steps, however I would expect everyone to do the backup steps of at least Time Machine.
We are talking valuable photos which are not replaceable, some people run into burning buildings to save their photos, so a quick backup seems reasonable. Turns out I didn't need my backups but I had no hesitation doing the upgrade with them in place.
    In Summary:
    1. Repair Permissions on your hard drive and iPhoto Library (see above for specifics)
    2. Remove duplicate Fonts and Validate and Remove trouble fonts in Font Book
    3. Backup, Backup, Backup. If possible with Time Machine and also separate exact copies of iPhoto library folder and iPhoto app itself.
    4. Install iLife '11 and restart.
    5. _*DO NOT OPEN iPhoto '11 YET*_, but DO OPEN Software Upgrade and install iPhoto version 9.1 (iPhoto '11 is version 9 of the software, iPhoto '09 is version 8)
    6. Open iPhoto '11 and wait patiently for the upgrading of your previous library.
This process worked seamless for me, and was headache free. I'm now also going to keep an offsite backup of my computer either in the cloud or at a friend, family or work location.
    Hope this helps!

Thanks so much - Iphoto has been driving me nuts for a while now. Permanent spinning wheel in Places and requiring force quit almost everytime. Following the advice to repair Iphoto permissions removed the spinning wheel from Places and Iphoto is completely back to normal

    Hi Prakash Sai,
There is no red font marked in your thread.  You can post the autoposting in service tax accounts using the tax code for different types and assign the required GL account for tax code postings.

  • Email Issue with wrong characters

I tried to adjust the size and font on my email as it was hard to read and now some of my incoming email has strange characters in them. There are capital AAAAAAAAA with a box around them. I was wondering what I did wrong and what the default fonts/sizes are so I can change it back. This is my first Mac so please be gentle.

    Monge10,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Try resolving duplicate fonts using Font Book.
I do not remember what the default fonts/sizes, but this is what I have set:
    Mailbox font: Lucida Grande 11
Message list font: Lucida Grande 12
    Message font: Lucida Grande 14
Note font: Marker Felt Thin 16
    Fixed-width font: Lucida Grande 12

  • How do I fix it :: pictwpstops stopped unexpectedly with status 1

I get this message only when printing from Quark
pictwpstops stopped unexpectedly with status 1
I have deleted and replaced all ppd's and drivers relevant to the Xerox and have re-installed QuarkXpress 6.5 an it still does it I dont't have the problem with any other app, does anyone know how to fix this, it's sending my insane!!!!!!
    [email protected]

'pictwpstops' stands for 'PICT with PostScript'. PDF is the standard spool file format, but for backward compatability with applications like Quark that generate their own PostScript, the 'pictwpstops' filter is used to create the spool file.
As has been mentioned in these forums, corrupt Fonts can cause this error as can permissions.
The first thing I would do is open Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions.
If the error continues after that has been performed, then look at your Font Book for duplicate fonts (marked with a dot). OS X loads fonts in an order based on the search path, the users library first, then the all users library and then the system library. You might have a case of your user font conflicting with other fonts, especially if you are using a font management utility.

    Paul

  • TypeKit Error on .js

I have a created a typekit, added the code to my page header and included the domains, including localhost and 127.0.0.1 as I am currently developing the site on my local machine. The pages are being served through XAMPP on my local server but the error I get is below, which is an error on the .js file. Initially I had multiple 403 forbidden errors until I added the localhost to the domain list... now I get this error and no joy on the fonts loading.
    mim4nnq.js:8 GET http://use.typekit.net/c/0b29af/1w;copal-std-solid,7cdcb44be4a7db8877ffa5c0…a1d189dbcc79e7 c23ee5b47a4923efce37bced587655462bc236ee3b927e7149f8cf514a43 403 (Forbidden)

    Hi Dylan,
I'm sorry that you ran into trouble with this. Please make sure that the <head> of your website is valid.  If there are any syntax errors in that section of the page, it may be preventing the Typekit JavaScript from running correctly and adding the CSS file to your website.  The W3C validator has an upload option which you can use to check the code:
    http://validator.w3.org/#validate_by_upload
If that all looks good, please run some tests in the web developer tools in the browser, so I can see some more details of your localhost setup. If you don't want to share your screenshots in the forum, you can email them to Typekit Support at [email protected]
    Example:
    5. Select the JS filename, then select the Headers tab that appears.
    6. Resize the window so that all header info rows are visible.

  • Font Book-marker in Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign

I guess we need a book-marker for fonts built-in all adobe softwares, some thing similar to the book markers in chrome or mozilla. Coz every artist working comfortably on adobe tools would not wish to go through all the tons n tons of fonts installed in the local drive. I think it makes things much easier in creating your own list of fonts. Just hovering on the bookmark button/tab and choose the font among your list of font and you are done.   Is there a plugin tool available ?

This is an open forum with "some" Adobe staff participation, requests at this link

  • PDF displays question mark font

I'm trying to study for an exam, but am having trouble viewing certain PDF files. It displays a box-enclosed question mark font. Up till a few days ago, I could read them just fine, but then I ran Onyx and since then I get the weird font. I've tried opening in Preview, Adobe reader, Skim, and in my browsers and they all do this. Can someone please help me out? Thanks

Hello belgremoo, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sounds like a munged Font or Font Cache.
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go. Reboot when all done, it clears Font Caches as well.
Start with Font Book in Applications, Validate Fonts first, if that doesn't fix it then move all your new fonts to a different set & leave only these in the Main set...

thanks for the quick answer! but unfortunally it is not the solution you described. in my preferences
and the preferences of the customers program are in the pdf/a-viewing area two possibilities to set:
"No" and "only at pdf/a-documents". there is no "all". and we have the same setting in this section
