Font menu in Mountain Lion´s Keyboard Viewer?

I lost track of the font menu in Mountain Lion´s Keyboard Viewer. Where did the font menu go?

Hi,
Do you mean this ?
That's the Character Viewer turned on in System Preferences > Language and Text  > Input source tab.

Even though I have LCD font smoothing disabled, Mountain Lion still uses it in PDF views, Safari’s location bar, Mail’s message view, and the dialogs for mounting encrypted disk images. Is there any solution to this problem? Also diabled the Smoothing in the SystemPrefs and also via Terminal. Font smoothing is still there. Very annoying, especially in PDF attachments in Apple Mail.

Try feeding Safari a user-defined CSS file with font-smoothing tweaks (including none). The filename and its filesystem location are arbitrary. Use your favorite coding editor.
Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Style Sheet:
Here is an example with all elements uncommented. Pick the one that works best for your Safari viewing and comment out the others:
Preview. Try Preview > Preferences > PDF > Smooth text and line art (uncheck)

  • HT2509 Font Book vs Mountain Lion issue

Font Book keeps crashing as soon as it loads now that I have installed Mountain Lion. Is there a Font Book update that I need? I currently have Font Book 4.1
Using a 27" iMac 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 with wireless keyboard. Don't seem to be able to do a Safe Reboot either.

You were right; corrupt fonts. Reloaded all fonts but did not validate any with issues. Seems to be fine now.
Until I need them again, of course. Which, most probably, will be in the near future.
Thanks for your help. I will persevere with Mountain Lion until something else goes haywire. Not impressed so far.

  • Arial font missing from Mountain Lion

Arial font doesn't appear in Mountain Lion, but all my spreadsheets use it.  As a result, when I open any spreadsheet, it appears blank until I change the font.  Is there any way I can fix this?  Thanks

    Arial is a built-in font.
    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
    Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case only, after running Font Book, launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. After running the command, reboot as usual.

  • Font rendering issue / Mountain Lion / non Apple LCD display

    Hello
This font rendering issue or problem is probably well know by Apple crew too but nobody has solved it yet. Only poor solution are available such as try to adjust manually font rendering by writin some scripts concerning anti alias levels...they really dont solve the problem.
Could Apple bring us solution to this by developing or updating Mountain Lion?
So what is the problem: font rendering is very poor in Mountain Lion when using non Apple LCD. For example Fujitsu SL27T-1 LED (LCD displa) shows fonts very nice way in Windows but in Mac OS ML does not. Somebody told me that its about software vs. hardware rendering. Dont know about that but could you bring me the solution which is not advising me to buy Apple display (which is five times more expensive than other manufactures displays).
    Br
    M. Leino

just want to add that overall fonts look blurry and they are not very sharp.

  • How do I remove apps from the "open with" menu in Mountain Lion?

If I right-click a document in Finder, I get a contextual menu offering all of the potential applications with which I might open that document.  My problem is that some of those applications are no longer operational and I want them to be removed from the menu.  How can I do that?

I'm not sure how the order is determined. Clearly, the first level sort is ascending by application name these days (since Lion, I think), but it seems to be random after that. It's not by version, though that would be convenient.
Also, I notice that on my relatively clean Mountain Lion system I sometimes get duplicate entries in the "open with" list that cannot be explained by duplicate copies of the application. On a text file, I get two each of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Equation Editor, Evernote, and Xcode; none of these is duplicated on this system. I get only one entry each for the Notepad stub application, a few Adobe apps, TextWrangler, Safari, Numbers, Pages, and several others.
Where there are duplicated entries, it doesn't seem to matter which one I select; I get the same instance of the program no matter which I select. I take this to mean that one is an alias for the other.
That's my mystery and not necessarily yours. Are your "unhelpful but working stub applications" also duplicates?

  • OSX Mountain Lion change keyboard language after reboot

My native language is Portuguese, and since the 10.8.1 update, every time I reboot my computer, the keyboard language goes from Portuguese to English.
I set it again to Portuguese and after a reboot or if I shutdown the computer and start again, its english again.
This bug is very annoying, because all the layout changes. Does anyone have this problem or know how to fix it?

I'm also have the same issue. I use the Spanish ISO keyboard settings. Every time I reboot or logout the USA keyboard appears again.
As rmz83 I only have check the Spanish ISO in system preferences/language & text/input sources on OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
Anyone knows how to solve this problem??

  • Can't see finder menu bar mountain lion

Since yesterday, every time I reboot or start my iMac everything comes up except my Finder menu bar.
Only way I can start working on my Mac is to relaunch my finder by force quitting.
I am running iMac 24" (Early 2008), Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB RAM
Anyone with similar experience? Thank you in advance.

One possibility is that you are somehow getting into full screen mode for some app that is restarting ever time you reboot. But the finder could be hosed for some other reason. Perhaps some menubar extension you installed?
    I'd try two things.
    1) start up in safe mode (hold down the shift key on hearing the startup chime) See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455.  If all is well then, you should reboot normally after that.
    2) login as a different user ( you do have another user setup I hope. This is always a good idea). Does the problem happen with this other user?
Safe mode should reset caches and will, I hope fix your problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to change system font size in mountain lion

Have they came out with a patch to adjust system wide font sizes?

Have they came out with a patch to adjust system wide font sizes?
Not to my knowledge. One way of changing the size of the text is to alter the resolution. Admittedly it's a less than perfect solution but many on here seem to manage with it.
System Preferences>Displays - click on Scaled and select another resolution.

  • HT4836 duplicate finder context menu items Mountain Lion

I paid money to upgrade to 10.8.2 Is it a bug-or-feature? I have upgraded all my apps I purchased though iTunes. I get 2-Opera, 2-Pages, 3-TextWrangler, 3-xCode, items in my Finder Context menu. I need to Remove (maybe add items later). Where is the OSX documentation to do things a PC-Mac-Hybrid Programmer like me needs to. Does Apple provide any real, reliable documentation or just hit-or-miss help-yourselves-communities.

  • Can not create a pdf file from print menue using mountain lion

I can not seem print a page from Safari to desktop as a pdf.

What happens when you try? There are other reports here that it takes two tries in some applications, though Safari has not been mentioned yet.

  • Mountain Lion's Mail doesn't recognize keyboard shortcuts for formatting characters.

Usually in Mail you can press Command-I, and the characters you type are italicized. The same with Command-B (bold), Command-U (Underline), etc. After installing Mountain Lion, these keyboard shortcuts are no longer recognized in Mail. The only way to format characters is to select text, control-click the highlighted text, and from the contextual menu select Font, which lets one choose Bold, Italic, or Underline.
How can I make Mail work with the supposedly built-in keyboard shortcuts?
(I experienced this problem with Snow Leopard, but my installation of Lion corrected the issue. Now Mountain Lion brings it back agian. Sheesh.)

(x-post) Ended up on a call with apple support. THey had me disable login items and go through system folder and dump a lot of extensions.  Kill all /library/launchagents and /library/launchdaemons  all of them.
He said the likely culprits are /library/extensions... instanton and soundflower. I killed those.
so my system has been given an enema, and the problem has gone away.

  • View Source missing - Mountain Lion upgrade

I used to be able to right click a webpage in Safari and I can click View Source.  But I recently installed Mountain Lion and the "View Source" doesn't show up anymore.  It's not under the View menu either.  How can I add it back in?

Full Source view in a seperate window is no longer possible with Safari 6. This function was removed and replaced with Page Source View, which is not the same. The new view is shared with the Inspect Element and cannot be called up at the same time. If you call up Page Source, it replaces the Inspect Element. I always have the page source AND the Inspect Element up at the same time, and this is no longer possible. You will have to open two windows open to get this done. It's not always possible to open two identical windows to a certain webpage, as mostly I am a developer and the page content changes with each reload. Hence the inspect element and page source will not operate on an identical window as it used to do. Also the View Source Window used a seperate window, unincumbered by any additional sidebars, just showing the raw source color coded. I wish Apple would bring this function back (and I have already submitted a feature request).

  • Question about the license of the Helvetica fonts that came preinstalled on my OS X Mountain Lion

Hi, I'm a hobby illustrator and I currently work in Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Recently, I've decided that I'm going to switch to Linux Mint for various reasons including a more responsive and customizable system. However, I still want to use some of the fonts that came preinstalled with Mountain Lion, including the Helvetica, Helvetica CY, and Helvetica Neue font families.
Now, as I understand it, the license for the fonts included with Mountain Lion cannot be transferred over if I export one of the fonts from the Font Book app and install it in Linux Mint. My questions are:
    1. Is this true, or does the license remain valid even if I copy the fonts to Linux Mint?
    2. If not, does the license remain valid if I somehow access OS X's fonts from within Linux Mint and use them without copying them over?
    Thanks,
    Emily

Since this is absolutely NOT a forum associated with fonts from vendors other than Adobe, we cannot give you a definitive response to this.
You should consult the EULA (End User License Agreement) for Apple's operating systems and see if they address the issue of the license for the bundled fonts. If there is nothing mentioned there, I suggest you contact Apple directly for their official response to your query.
Generally speaking, I would be amazed if they tell you that once you have a license to any version of MacOS, you have rights to use the bundled fonts on any other platform for the indefinite future.
