Font menu/rich text!

I absolutely LOVE my Mac, save for one thing. I cant do Ebay listings because no font menu comes up (to make text bigger/smaller/bold/italic etc) so I cant change the text around. Also theres no html tab like there is on my PC, so I cant add in my own pictures using HTML. Is there a way to get the menu back?! Thanks anyone who can help!

It's a Safari thing. If you install and use Firefox on your mac, eBay works as normal. It's useful having FF just for a few things, as some developers haven't worked out that Safari has 10% of the market share yet!
You don't have to set FF as your default browser, just have it on your mac for those very occasional uses. If you use Quicksilver (and every mac user should!), then it's dead easy to open ebay with a small number of keystrokes.

  • Rich text not working...

    Under preferences in Mail, I have the message format set to Rich Text and under fonts and colours; I have the message font set to Verdana from the 'windows office compatible' fonts. However, not a single email client that I am sending messages to is interpreting this font. Outlook is simply displaying the text in Times New Roman, which looks awful. Why is this not working?
    Also, when I send a message with a 'windows compatible' attachment, outlook cuts off all of the text after the attachment and shows it as a HTML attachment???

    So it is intended only for viewing, not for message composition???
    Surely you can see my frustration?
    Yes. Sorry, but I wasn't very clear. The Message Font in Mail preferences is for displaying plain text messages and setting the "default" font. Rich text messages will be displayed in whatever font they were created with.
    The Fonts menu is useful for message composition. But in order to create a rich text message, you must change the font from the default, whatever that default happens to be. So, it is in your interests to make sure that the Message Font in Mail Preferences is not the font you want to use for creating new rich text messages.
    It is the policy of Apple Mail to prefer to send plain text messages whenever possible. Even if you select rich text, Apple Mail will only send plain text if it thinks you haven't used any rich text features. This is a design decision by Apple because they know how much trouble sending and receiving rich text messages really is.
    I send a message to a client, attach an excel spreadsheet... When I receive a reply, I see my quoted message; in Times New Roman, with the most important body of text missing, just because it was typed after the attachment. I basically sent a message that made no sense and that looked very unprofessional.
    You can't go by that. A message sent to a Windows user and returned as a quoted reply is likely to have no relation whatsoever to how it looked on your display or how it looked on your recipient's display when you sent it.
    Also, you seem to be encountering a well-known bug in Outlook. It sounds like what you actually sent was a plain text message with attachments. Outlook is known to handle such messages poorly. It is best in such situations to put your attachments at the end of the message and/or force a rich text message by selecting a non-default font. (That means a font other that what you have defined as the default message font).
    All of your content made it to the recipient, but any text after the attachment shows up as a text attachment. When dealing with users with this old version of Outlook, make sure all of your attachments are at the end of your message. As soon as Outlook sees the first attachment (which will be anything (image, attachment, styled text) that isn't plain text) it treats all following content as attachments.
    His response however (composed in Outlook) looked much more reputable. The message displayed in the same font that it was composed with, in navy blue (because it was a reply) and none of the text was missing!
    Yes. That is because Apple Mail is a far better mail program than Outlook. Apple Mail can properly read Outlook e-mail but Outlook has trouble with anything that wasn't built by Outlook.
    I just don't understand why Apple haven't given us the choice? We have the ability to send a message in rich text, and it works. But we have no way to select that formatting as a default without using some botched up signature. That makes no sense!
    E-mail is just very difficult to get right. The MIME mail standard is 20 years old. To this day, e-mail programs continue to have trouble with it. You are taking your frustrations out on Apple, but that is misdirected. I have been using Apple e-mail software since 1996. Apple has been steadily dumbing it down in order to allow its messages to show up properly in Outlook and other PC e-mail programs.
    When sending e-mail to old e-mail clients, try to use only plain text. Make sure your attachments are at the end of your message. If you want to try using rich text, make sure to select a non-default font. You can argue with me and complain about Apple all you want, but that is going to have zero effect in fixing Outlook 2003.

  • Is it possible to have a text field have both auto font resizing and rich text format?

    I am trying to make a field so I can bold or italicize within, but still have the capability to add as much text as I want with the font size getting small so that it all fits in the field.  It seems I can have the auto resize OR the Rich Text, but not both.   Is there a way around this?
    Thank you.

    You can't? Just to give you some context, I work as a graphic designer, I'm creating for the first time an iBook for a client and I have quite a few examples already.
    A couple of vague examples:
    - Imagine a diagonal animation from the bottom left corner to the top right corner of the page. I could do this with keynote or html, for example. Now imagine you want some text floating at the top left and bottom right corner.
    I wont get into details, but the fact the animation is "cutting" through the text is very much relevant to the context.
    - A page with a bold white title, a strong photographic lowkey background and some kind of interaction of top of it.
    - A page with a keynote widget occupying almost the entire area, and a title in text format (that would superpose with they keynote but not with its graphics)
    - etc etc
    These are all impossible scenarios.
    The actual interaction with text/images and interactive elements is nonexistent.
    But I understand now that the interactive bits of the book must be separated from the other content - its context -which is a shame. And I understand it's not a bug, from what you say. The iBA interface shows the book like a PFD export, in a way, as well as the thumbnails at the Table of Contents, were all the text is visible. The actual pages have a different behaviour.
    Thank you very much for the fast feedback. I will use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu, as suggested.

  • Sending Rich Text Emails - Default Message font doesn't work!

    I have just set up Mail to compose Rich Text emails as default which seems to have worked okay. However, I have set the default Message font as 'Arial' and it doesn't seem to work when sent to Microsoft Outlook. However if I set the text to a different font and then back to arial when composing it works fine.
    I just looked at the raw source of the email and it doesn't actually state in the HTML that the font is set to Arial by default, only when it is manually changes when composing. It may display correctly in Mail but with more users on a windows based machine using outlook this is no good! I don't want to have to change the font manually every time!
    Anyone got a fix for this?

    Are there no fixes for this?
    In my eyes this is a major problem and certainly something that is making me consider moving away from Mail...

    Not sure why it would default to IMAP?  But any how, start the account anew, fill in the first page of info, but before clicking on the Create button, hold down the Option key until the Create button changes to read Continue.  Click continue, and proceed in a more manual process during which you can set the account type as POP.

  • Embedded fonts with rich editable text

    Hi, I am trying to use my embedded fonts in rich editable text field, but it only works for users that already have that font installed on their system.
    This is what I do.
    I embed fonts like this:
         @font-face {
                src:url("fonts/Cantarell-Regular.ttf");
                fontFamily: Cantarell;
                advancedAntiAliasing: true;
            @font-face {
                src:url("fonts/Cantarell-Bold.ttf");
                fontFamily: Cantarell;
                fontWeight: bold;
                advancedAntiAliasing: true;
    Then in my DropDownList (id=fontPicker) I add a new string entry that references my new font (in this case "Cantarell")
    I have a custom item renderer which makes sure to print out the name of the font using the font itself, so that for example font name "Cantarell" will be printed out using Cantarell font. Code in my custom font item renderer looks like this:
    <s:Label id="labelDisplay"
                 fontFamily="{data}"
                 verticalCenter="0"
                 left="3" right="3" top="6" bottom="4"/>
    And this part works, even if you dont have the font installed on your system, the name of the font is displayed propperly.
    The thing that I want to do is to select some text in my rich editable text field and change the font of the selected text depending on what user selected from the dropdownlist. I added an event which is called once user selects new font type, and it performs following code on the selection in rich editable text:
                   if(fontPicker.selectedIndex == -1){
                        //user did not select anything, we do not change the font
                        text.setFocus();
                        return;
                   //we get the text layout format of the selected text
                    var txtLayFmt:TextLayoutFormat = text.getFormatOfRange(null,text.selectionAnchorPosition,text.selectionActivePosition);
                   //we change fontFamily of the selected text to the font that we just picked
                    txtLayFmt.fontFamily = fontPicker.selectedItem;
                    // I even tryed to add those two following lines without much help
                    //txtLayFmt.fontLookup = FontLookup.EMBEDDED_CFF;
                    //txtLayFmt.renderingMode = RenderingMode.CFF;
                   // we update our selected text with new font
                    text.setFormatOfRange(txtLayFmt,text.selectionAnchorPosition,text.selectionActivePosition );
                    text.setFocus();
    This code works perfect if user has the font installed on their system but it does not work if they dont have the font even if I embed the font.
    What I am doing wrong, any suggestions, tips, links?
    Thanks,
    Dal

    Thanks I will take a look at your blogs, maybe I find some explanations.
    Once it comes to my problem, I found a solution, I just needed to add a simple style:
            .mystyle1 {
                 fontFamily:Cantarell;
    and set the styleName of my text to it:
    text.styleName = "mystyle1";
    Afterwards I can dynamically change fonts and sizes of the text selections in my rich editable text field as much as I like.
    Also I need to make sure that I set embed-as-cff: true;
          @font-face {
                src:url("fonts/Cantarell-Bold.ttf");
                fontFamily: Cantarell;
                fontWeight: bold;
                advancedAntiAliasing: true;
                embed-as-cff: true;
    I hope this helps someone.
    And if anyone has explanation to why embedded fonts work only after I change styleName of a text to a random style, please share with me.
    Cheers,
    Dal.

  • Rich text field will not show proper font attributes! (Bug? - RTF OTF font handling)

    I created two text form fields (rich text)...
    In Windows 7, Write program (using it to format the rich text content)... I edited my two lines.
    Line one: mix of two font sizes and a few attribute changes... pasted into the first text field perfectly.
    Line two: similar to the above... pasted into the second text field but the font is appearing in bold! It is not bold in the source, nor is it preset in the text field properties! I even pasted it back into Write AND Word and it pastes as I intended it.
    Why is Adobe doing this? I even tried to toggle >Text Style > bold on/off, clear formatting... these functions do not work!
    If I bring up the properties toolbar (Ctrl-E), bold is toggled on but I cannot toggle it off, I can add underline, I can change the font size.
    UPDATE: It seems that Adobe Acrobat is NOT reading the OTF font correctly! If I change to a different font, in the same family, the problem changes from set on bold to set on italics!
    It is specifically related to the font I am using but is ONLY a problem when using Rich Text fields. In other words, the entire font family works perfectly if I inserted a text box or use the font family in any other Adobe product.
    I have submitted a bug report: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&loc=en

    Another possibly revealing clue is that when I go to Text Field Properties > Appearance tab > Text / Font, I see the entire family of this particular font. However, when editing the text in the properties toolbar (Ctrl-E), only a small sub-set of this font family appears and the attributes behave in an odd manner. Example: normal font appears as italics but if I switch on BOLD, the italic attribute is gone... and other strange attribute problems.

  • MS SharePoint 2010 Designer Workflow Email - Enhanced Rich Text Field look-up values on HTML email have large spaces

    MS InfoPath 2010 form with RTF (Rich Text Fields)
    MS SharePoint 2010 Custom Library
    MS SharePoint 2010 Designer Workflow Send Email
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-designer-help/send-e-mail-in-a-workflow-HA010239042.aspx
    https://www.nothingbutsharepoint.com/sites/eusp/pages/creating-html-emails-with-spd-workflows.aspx
    Hi all of the above work, our question is how to control the RTF (Rich Text Field) look up values to the InfoPath 2010 form in the HTML email?
    How to FORMAT the RTF look up value? in the HTML email
    EXAMPLE
    we have a InfoPath 2010 form published in the SharePoint 2010 custom list library there are 5 RTF fields (Notes1, Notes2, Notes3, Notes4, Notes5) there are other plain text fields, date fields, and other field types in the form
    We use a HTML table to make the email look like the InfoPath form, so when the users fill out the form and they get the email notification everything looks the same.
    Our problem is the EXTRA LINE SPACE in the RTF look up values
    We want to remove any leading spaces, and line spaces between HTML table cells
    Our Workflow has the HTML in a Workflow variable, as you know it does not support remote CSS it has to be in-line style for any formatting we want all cells to have
    valign="top" the email should align at the top of the cell, all field types do except the RTF look up values they make the email look bad and they contain a lot of white space.
    Please test this in your enviroment
    <table>
    <tr><td>Title:</td><td>[%Current Item:Title%]</td><td>[%Current Item:Notes1%]</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Created by:</td><td>[%Current Item:CreatedBy%]</td><td>[%Current Item:Notes2%]</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Date Created:</td><td>[%Current Item:Created%]</td><td>[%Current Item:Notes3%]</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Modified by:</td><td>[%Current Item:ModifiedBy%]</td><td>[%Current Item:Notes4%]</td></tr>
    <tr><td>Date Modified:</td><td>[%Current Item:Modified%]</td><td>[%Current Item:Notes5%]</td></tr>

    perhaps you may try this article:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/f8fa2a11-9f74-4dd2-b277-21ce872fdcb2/can-we-add-rich-text-editor-to-the-sharepoint-designer-2010-workflow?forum=sharepointcustomizationprevious
    there are some notes that perhaps you may check:
    Use the same font for all the controls to ensure consistent spacing between rows.
    Choose Size from the Format menu, and then choose To Fit from the menu that appears. This adjusts the size of each control, depending on the font set for the data that appears
    in the control.
    NOTE: The Print Preview and Output To commands use different algorithms for calculating text width; therefore, the text may occupy more or less
    space in the RTF file.
    Reduce the amount of blank space above and below the report controls. Any vertical
    space between the controls is converted to whole lines
    in the RTF file. For example, a
    space of .02 inches can increase to .1667 inches in the
    RTF file.
    Make sure controls on the same output row are not too close to each other or overlapping. This can cause the Output To command to omit the controls or to align the columns incorrectly
    in the RTF file.
    Use the Align command from the Format menu to ensure that a row of controls is aligned properly on the report. If a row of controls is not aligned properly, the Output To command may place the controls
    in different rows, causing extra blank
    spacein the RTF file.
    and please have a check there are updates for exchange 2013 and will be available with the upcoming release of CU4 for Exchange 2013, that stated the format rtf was saved instead HTML. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2862739/en-us

  • How to customize the Rich Text Editor task flow in the doc lib?

    Dear Experts in WCP forum,
    You know that webcenter portal has a feature is called customizing task flow.. so we have client request to customize the Rich Text Editor task flow of the Document library. Such as disable the Format, Font, Size drop down menu of the richtext editor UI.   But after I open the editHTML.jsff of the oracle.webcenter.doclib. the code is like this:
                        <f:facet name="richtext">
                               <af:panelGroupLayout layout="scroll" id="rtepng2">
                                  <rte:editor id="rte" value="#{pageFlowScope.rte.HTMLTextArea}" converter="#{pageFlowScope.rte.HTMLConverter}"/>
                                  <!-- keep region wrapped in the facet to be stretched-->
                                  <af:region value="#{bindings.linksResourcePicker.regionModel}" id="lpr"/>
                               </af:panelGroupLayout>
                            </f:facet>
    So likes that editor in fact is from <rte:editor tag.. my question is how to dig into this <rte:editor  to find its jsff code?  And change the menu inside to do the cusomization for them?
    Is that possible?

    Which means that if you want to change the toolbar you have to check what is the type of toolbars the CKEditor uses, I can tell you that there are two defaults: Basic and Full and I believe the tag uses a custom toolbar called WC by default.
    So if you want to change the toolbar to only show basic, change the toolbarSet property to Basic to make the final result looks like <rte:editor id="rte" value="#{pageFlowScope.rte.HTMLTextArea}" converter="#{pageFlowScope.rte.HTMLConverter}" toolbarSet="Basic" />

  • Safari Mac won't display Rich Text HTML editor in Yahoo web mail

    "Safari 3.2 (Mac)", "Yahoo email", "Compose Message" Toolbar, Rich Text (HTML) editor.
    In Yahoo's Compose Message editor, I don't see the Rich Text (HTML) editor and its toolbar while using Safari 3.2 in Yahoo mail (classic). In Firefox, I see the Rich Text editor toolbar and it works fine.
    I've searched on this forum, including Yahoo and others, and don't see this complaint. Is there something I've overlooked?
    Is Safari Mac even capable of running the Rich Text editor in Yahoo email?

    Hi Semi,
    I found this in the Yahoo Mail Help:
    How do I write in BOLD, italics or Color, or change font size?
    On the Compose page, above the upper-right corner of the compose window, there's a link that either says Rich Text or Plain Text. Click this link to switch back and forth between the two. Since the link is the switch, you'll actually see Plain Text when you're in Rich Text.
    In Rich Text, you can change the look of your message in a bunch of different ways. Again, since the link is there to switch from one mode to the other, if you see Plain Text, that means you're already in Rich Text! If you see Rich Text, click it.
    The Rich Text toolbar appears above the Compose window.
    Spell check
    Going from left to right, the first button is the 'abc' spell-check button. Click it anytime to check your spelling starting at the beginning of your email. When you're finished, click Close.
    Font and Size
    Font: The Font button has two F’s on it. Click it to view other Font choices and select another Font.
    Size: Click the button with two A’s on it to choose the size of type you want. Browse the menu and click the size you want.
    Bold, Italics and Underline
    B is for Bold, I is for Italics, and U is for Underline. Emphasize your point! :o)
    To use these formatting tools, either click a button and start typing, or, select a block of text (or one word), and then click a button to format the text.
    color
    Text Color: Click the "T" button to see a palette of many colors. Select the text color you want, and start typing. Or, select a block of text (or one word), and then click the button to apply the color.
    Background color: Want to give your text a background color? Either click the highlighter color you want and then start typing, or, select the text to which you'd like to add a background, then press this button to apply the highlighting color.
    Emoticons
    Add emotional oomph to what you say by selecting from the list of graphical emoticons.
    Links and Lines
    Globe with Links button: Insert a web site link!
    Line button: Insert a horizontal line. Handy!
    Alignment
    Choose from flush-left, centered, or flush-right text alignment.
    Lists
    Bullets and Numbering button: create bulleted or numbered lists.
    Indenting
    Decrease Indent: Place the cursor where you would like to move the text to the left and click the "Decrease Indent" button.
    Increase Indent: Place the cursor where you would like to move the text to the right and click the "Increase Indent" button.
    Yahoo hasn't the best rich text editor out there for e-mail. Why not use Mac Mail... so much easier and supports RT. Yahoo having laid off personnel, I doubt if their internet based mail client sees much in the way of improvement anytime soon.

  • Rich Text Box Issue - Expand to show all Text

    Hi everyone
    I'm having a pretty frustrating issue with the rich text box when viewing a line item (not when editing the item, but viewing the item)
    I want my rich text box to expand with the text, which I have changed in the options on InfoPath with the "Expand to show all text" scrolling option. However, in IE, the table row will expand, but the actual rich text box will not and I'll have
    a scroll bar there and you cant see all of the text at one time. If I look in Chrome, then it works the way I want and I can see all of the lines of text that were entered into the rich text box.
    The only solution for IE to work correctly is to change the Display settings to "Enable enhanced rich text content...". But the big issue with that is now you can no longer highlight the text (the highlight disappears right after highlighting it),
    and the users will need to copy text from the text box, so it renders the "enhanced" rich text box useless for us
    It's kind of a lose-lose situation that I'd love to find the solution for

    I guess a better solution would be how can you highlight text from an enhanced rich text box, because changing these to "rich text box" gets rid of font colors in the pre-existing data.

    I use Mail for both my work email (MS Exchange) and my personal email (webmail/IMAP). Many of my coworkers use Outlook's rich text formatting options, so I need to have my work emails go out as rich text. However I'd like to have my personal emails go out as plain text.
    I can set Mail to create new messages in plain text, but to reply in the same format of the original message. That takes care of everything EXCEPT when I compose a new message using my work address... in that case it goes out as plain text, and my coworkers complain that they can't use formatting, because their copies of Outlook are in turn configured to reply in the same format as the original message.
    So ideally what I'd like is to have two different formatting settings for my two different accounts. Anyone know how this might be done? Any plugins, etc., that might accomplish this?

    Since you are running Jaguar, Jaguar and Panther Mail do not support composing in HTML and this includes when forwarding a message received that was composed in HTML.
    Since Jaguar and Panther Mail do not support composing or forwarding HTML, you can't embed images or photos in the message body anyway.
    RTF with Tiger Mail is really HTML and although Tiger Mail does not include an HTML composer/editor, you can copy/paste HTML format from a web page and forward HTML received.
    Images/photos and single page PDF attachments are revealed as inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off. This applies to received and sent messages which is not the same as being embedded. Embedded requires HTML and an embedded attachment is not a true attachment. All Mail.app versions render HTML received but you cannot attach a photo or image as embedded with Jaguar or Panther Mail so it doesn't matter if you use RTF or Plain Text in regards to photo/image or single page PDF attachments which appear as inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default regardless.
    When you use Plain Text for message composition, the receiving mail client renders the text in whatever font the reader chooses.
    IMO, everyone should use Plain Text for message composition. Messages would be boring to some but the majority if not all problems experienced with email would be eliminated if HTML was banned from message composition.

    Okay I've tried to implement a JComboBox that allows the user to change fonts in the text field. So far I've tried different methods to do it but to no avail. Could somebodoy here read the programs source code for me and tell me where I went wrong?

  • Export rich text from Adobe Form to MS Word or MS Excel

    Hi,
    I have created a form in Adobe Acrobat X Pro. It consists of some text fields, where formatting of the text is important. I have chosen allow rich text formatting in the textfield and that works fine. Export to Excel via .csv works fine, but formatting is of course lost.
    I will receive many forms back, and would like to automate as much of the process as possible. My question is if there is any way to do a batch export of a certain text field including the formatting to either MS word or Excel?
    An alternative might be to export only the specific text field from all collected forms to a one PDF File and copy paste this into word.
    If I can get this to work, everything should work as planned.
    Sorry if this has been asked before. Have done numerous searches, so far without result.
    Best regards,
    mlang1111

    Probably, the font used isn't installed in your system, and the creator of the PDF file didn't embed it properly.

  • I cant copy/paste from an article to my web site, get a Mozilla Rich Text Editing demo page will not work.HELP

    Tried to copy/paste from an article to my web site and got a "cannot copy /paste " warning and was directed to a security perferences site that said that Mozilla Rich Text Editing demo page will not work.
    Tried to find my Firefox profile directory using the start menu and was directed to hit enter to go to web. Feel like i am getting run around.

    Let's start with something very basic, and that is, you do not need to use the paste button on most websites. The button just reads what is on your clipboard and sticks it into the form. You can do that yourself using Ctrl+v or right-click>Paste.
    For your security, I suggest using those standard Windows keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+x cut, Ctrl+c copy, Ctrl+v paste) or the context menu.
    Occasionally you will find a paste button that runs a clean-up script or otherwise does something useful. That is where the (admittedly a bit complicated) instructions come in handy.
    To open your active profile folder, you can use:
    Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
    Which help article are you using for the modifications?
    Finally, please be cautious in opening up your clipboard to sites. You may have stuff you copied from other pages or other programs that you do not want to share with most sites.
