Font Names at top of first help topic

I'm using Robohelp for Microsoft Word X5.0.1. For all of our
legacy apps, we have been generating our help file from Word
documents in the WinHelp 4 format. I am currently involved with a
long term project upgrading all of our legacy applications to
Visual Basic .Net 2005. VS2005 doesn't support the WinHelp 4 format
- it supports HTML Help (or CHM file format). I took the source
files we have been using to generate the WinHelp 4 document and
tried to generate a CHM file. However at the top of the first topic
in each document, several names of fonts get generated into the
text piece of the CHM file.
Has anyone experienced this? How can I go about getting past
this issue?

Show uninstalled .pfm font names in Windows 7?

I have a bunch of old fonts that I've kept each time I upgraded to a new computer or OS (WIndows 95 to XP and now Windows 7). In the past, I've always been able to easily pick out which fonts I wanted to install uning Adobe Type Manager. Well, ATM doesn't work in Win 7. I can install fonts just fine BUT trying to figure out which particular file to install is the problem. I can see the files names like pvw3__.pfm, but I don't know which font that is. I can discover the font name if I double click on the .pfm file, but clicking on each one indivivually to try and find the one I want is painfully slow. Is there some utility or setting that will show uninstalled font names?

bump: Please someone help with this solution. I have found that ttf can have "Title" enabled in details view (right click on the columns and check the "Title" and this will work to show the names. But this does not work for pfm/pfb files. Pleae someone help.

How to add a Font Button in the Top of the Help File

Dear all,
In some of the Help Files (HTML Help), i've seen a Font
button being added in the top of the Help File (for e.g next to
Home button)...when we click this font button, the font size of the
Content present in the Help File Increases/decreases
accordingly....how to add this button in our Help File.
At present i'm creating a HTML Help using Adobe 6..Kindly let

Just Installed CS4; Need Help With Font Names/Colors/Sizes

In past versions of Dreamweaver, I think I clicked on "Use HTML instead of CSS" in the Preferences. I need to be able to select the font names, colors, and sizes from the Property Inspector.
How do I set it up the same way in CS4. I have clicked on the toggle button in the Property Inspector for HTML instead of CSS, but it doesn't give me the menus to select font names (Arial, Helvetica, etc.), font size (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) and font color (imagine your own).

DW CS4 makes you use the CSS properties inspector because CSS is the defacto web standard now. HTML formatting is deprecated (obsolete) according to W3C web standards.
There are three ways to use CSS in your site pages.
Inline: A one-time style applied within the code as an attribute of a given element (or tag). This is similar to the old HTML formatting method but the code itself is a little different.
Embedded: A style sheet declaration in the head of the document that will only effect that single page on the site.
External: A physical CSS file containing rules (styles) that is linked to from multiple pages within the site.
It doesn't matter if you have dynamically generated or static web pages. CSS is still the most efficient way to style your content.

Creating a direct link to the help topics?

Ok I have been building my first RoboHelp project with the help of some good tutorials online.
I have a number of different help topics and they have sub topics.
How do I direct a user when they click on a direct link to a subtopic. What is the HTML code to use to get to a subtopic?
If I use the HTML file name of the topic, the help TOC on the left doesn't show up.
Does this make sense?

Font Name "2s)zei" in Form

We have Oracle Forms where the objects have the font "2s)zei". (note: We were not the original developers of the application and we don't know why the font name is displayed like that. There is also no such font in our PCs.)
We need to determine what font was really used. How do we do this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) How can I increase the font size for all field names thoughout the form e.g. First Name, Middle Name etc, House #, Suburb/State, Current Employer etc etc ?
Why do you have a tag around each <label> tag's contents?
<label for="firstName">Applicant 1 First Name:*</label>
Removing that would help make the label contents larger, and it could be that this would be all you need.
With regard to the layout question, I'd like to see you fix these validation errors before tackling that. I feel it's wasted effort to try to troubleshoot layout issues on a page with invalid HTML....

**$$PlaceHolder$$** appears where header should be in HTML Help topics

I have been working on this Help Project for a client since
2004, updating it when they update their software.
I recently upgraded to RH7, and have been working on an
update on their Help project. When I build the HTML Help output
this morning, the header was correct on only the first two topics;
then on subsequent topics I was getting "Script Error" warnings.
I went back into RH7 and checked for missing files etc - all
OK.
Then I did a menu > Tools > Update HTML Effects, which
usually sorted out any misbehaviour or earlier versions. New
compile to HTML Help. Again, the header is normal on the first two
topics only, but on all the other (100+) topics, the header is
replaced by text **$$PlaceHolder$$**.
The header comprises a single cell table with a background
graphic, and a small graphic within the cell itself.
The two topics that display correctly are at top level in the
ToC; all other topics are in Books in the ToC.
I tried Browse Sequence set to Zero and set to 1, but same
problem. I tried removing the browse sequence display from the
output build, but same problem.
Headers appear correctly in topic Preview mode.
I tried removing the template from all topics and then
reapplying it; then did a new build. When I try to run the Help
Guide, I get the ToC pane in view OK, but the start topic is blank,
and I have "Internet Explorer Script Error" dialogue:
"An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Error: Object expected.
Code 0.

If I click Yes, the Help Guide runs OK with all headers in
place.
I can then select any other topic, and all is OK; if I select
the Start topic, then I get the script error message again.
HELP!! This is for a major client, and the Help Guide is not
deliverable in this form.
SOLUTION: I think I found the cause of problem. I had a
splash screen on the first topic, inherited from long ago. I
removed it, did a rebuild, and now everything works OK. I then
reinserted the Splash Screen, rebuild, and now OK.
Conclusion: I think there is a
BUG in *Update HTML Effects*.
Please pass it on!

To be honest you only need to use the Update HTML Effects if
you have added a HMTL effect to one of your styles and you want
this to be reflected in the topics you have already created. Of
course you may have done exactly that

As this is a high priority issue,please suggest me how to display the same font which has been set in the template
Note:
We had installed the “VectoraLTStd-Roman” font in application server; after exporting the pdf, in the client browser, we are getting incorrect fonts.
Please check in the system where “VectoraLTStd-Roman” font is not installed
To check the font names,please copy the text from pdf and paste it on winword/wordpad.

I tested on a device here and see the same issue using 6.0.40.1. I would consider this a bug and open an issue with support so they can escalate and have it corrected. It appears to be device/os version specific as I don't see the issue on Android 2.3.4 but I do see it on Android 4.1.1 and Android 4.4.2.
I am also going to open an issue with Engineering on this as well.

Installed Xcodes and now all "Help" topics blank.

In an attempt to play "Myst Online - Uru Live" I followed instructions to install Xcodes from my original install disks. I now have the following problems:
I can't eject the install disk.
All help topics present with blank pages.
Safari will open but also presents with blank pages.
I am currently using the Firefox browser to send this question.
I am not a developer but merely an apple user who is now very much out of his depth.
If it helps, as part of the overall process I also firstly downloaded something called Macports (I think!). The instructions also mentioned something about entering the Terminal and typing a couple of lines of code, but I haven't got to this stage yet. In trying to install Macports after download, I get this message "Either uname or sed could not be found in PATH. Your system appears to be incomplete or misconfigured."
I am running an iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 duo. OS 10.6.8

If I'm allowed to reply to my own question, I restarted the computer (which I now realise is the Snow Leopard OS and not Leopard) and everything is now OK with Help and Safari. I also downloaded the wrong version of Macports, which I have now corrected.
However, as part of my quest to play "Myst Online" I have to open Terminal and type in "sudo port install mystonline-cider", after which I will be asked for my password. The trouble is, after I type in the command and press return, my password is requested, but the keyboard freezes, so I can't type in anything else.

Change font name/size in text box

I am trying to create a Pages document with text boxes and would like to use different fonts and sizes in each box. I've tried using
make text box with properties {object text:receipt_date, vertical position:7, horizontal position:2.5, height:0.5, width:3, font name:"Courier", font size:24.0}
but it doesn't work.
Any help gratefully received.

I see two things; you should "make new text box" and font name and font size are properties of the text, not the text box.
The following worked for me:
set the_text to "Hello World!"
tell application "Pages"
          tell front document
                    set new_box to make new text box with properties {object text:the_text, vertical position:2, horizontal position:1, height:3, width:4}
                    set properties of object text of new_box to {font name:"Courier", font size:24.0}
          end tell
end tell
Edit: The "set new_box to" part isn't needed unless you want to refer to the box again in the script.

I have found that StarSuite7 (patch level 5) does not detect
Japanese font names under cirtain circumstances and
this resulted in incorrect display of characters : Worse, in my case,
the incorrectly recognized font name resulted in invisible character
and I failed to notice an important mark.
I am attaching the document that shows the problem.
What happens is this.
The first line contains a Japanse sentence that is followed
by a "bold right arrow mark" in WingDing font.
The Japanese sentence part is recognized to have the
font name "MS Gothic" (actually in Japanese character name.).
This part is correctly recognized by StarSuite7 (patch5) both under
linux and w2k platform.
Unfortunately, the wingding font name is incorrectly recognized
as "MS mincho" (again actually in Japanese character name), and
thus this right arrow is incorrectly rendered.
I am attaching a file that shows this problem.
This may be very L18N-related, but I hope someone can take a lookt at this problem.

Problems when printing help topics from OHJ

We have encountered some persistent problems when printing help topics from Oracle Help for Java (Ice Browser).
NOTE: When we print the same source files from Oracle Help for the Web, the printing problems are gone.
(1) Spacing Errors (all printers had identical results)
Text with special formatting (, ) often has either too much space or not enough space.
Links often have extra spaces underlined before or after the link, itself.
(2) When printing multiple help topics from the TOC (an entire branch in the tree):
On some printers, no graphics print correctly, but instead print as one of the following: 1. empty box the size of one character, 2. black box the size of one character, 3. black box the size of the original graphic. We could not detect a pattern that caused 1, 2, or 3.
NOTE: all graphics are bit maps (screen captures) that were generated in the same manner.
NOTE: if these same help topics are printed one at a time form Oracle Help for Java, the graphics print fine.
Is this a problem with the Ice Browser?

There are a known issue with the ICEBrowser printing in some circumstances. The laying out of text by the ICE Browser relies on font metrics (being able to measure the width of a run of text in a given font). On screen it looks great, but when printing, even though the GraphicsConfiguration for the printer is being used, these widths are sometimes off, which can result in text running together at boundaries between text styles. We're not sure what to do about this problem, and we've reported it to IceSoft.
Not every font has this problem, so varying the font you are using might help the appearance when printed.
The other problem you report, problems with the images when printing multiple topics, is something that we will look into.

How to Identify the Type of Font Names in Illustrator

How to identify the type of font names like "True Type font" (or) "open Type font" for illustrator file using Scripts or any language. Could you please advice me.

that. ATM won't really help - it is obsolete and should not be
installed (breaks things).

I would ask you these questions:
Why do you need to do this? What are you ultimately trying to accomplish?
Are you really asking about the InDesign SDK?
Do you really need to get the "name" of a font from an arbitrary file? Or do you want information about a font installed on the system? If so, what OS?
Do you need to be able to handle any font format?
Which font "name" do you mean?
What language do you want the name in?
(1) It's not clear what you're trying to accomplish. A bit more information about your ultimate goal would be helpful.
(2) This question is not at all specific to the InDesign SDK. Are you really trying to do something in the context of an InDesign plug-in? If so, you probably want to look at IID_IFONTFAMILY and the IFontFamily::GetFamilyName function.
(3) If you are asking more generally, Windows and Mac both have system API calls to get this information, although those tend to deal with installed system fonts, not with arbitrary font files per se.
Also, you can parse the name table from a True Type or Open Type font without using any system APIs; as True Type and Open Type are well-documented standards. I would start by reading these:
The Naming Table
Font Names Table
(4) Although there are other standards, such as Type 1 (PostScript) fonts, and True Type Collection files and other formats, especially on Mac.
(5) Also, when you start down this road, you will quickly realize that your seemingly simple question is actually ambiguous, and that the answer is kind of complicated, because a font can have many names (a family name, a full font name, a style name, a PostScript name, etc.).
(6) And not only does a font have multiple names, it can have each of those names in multiple languages and encodings.
Any clarification would make this a better question.
