Font no longer legible in .pdfs: Please help!

I have a question and I am not even sure I am asking in the correct forum, but I hope someone can either answer my question or direct me to right place. For more than a year I have been creating documents in Office Publisher, saving them as a pdf file and then e-mailing the file to several recipients. It has recently come to my attention that the document is now coming to some of them as unreadable. The font comes across as a "smear" of text. I have used the same font for years, Lucida Casual, and this has never been a problem until the last week or so. It appears to only be a problem when the recipient is reading the document on an Apple/Mac. I have tested it on other PCs which I know do not have the used font installed and it still looks fine, but when trying to read it on a Mac laptop or Iphone the text is a blur. As far as I know nothing has changed on my end. I am still using the same computer…PC with Win XP, Office 2007 Publisher, saving the files exactly as I have been for more than a year, but now even pdfs created more than a year ago which contain Lucida Casual are no longer legible on Apple products. I know that I could simply change fonts and maybe get rid of this problem, but I would rather not do that. I have been using Lucida Casual as my “default” font for years and years and I like the bit of flair it has and that I can reduce the size down to as small as 8 and still find it very readable. 1. The documents I am creating are generally in Microsoft Publisher and I use that program to publish the documents as a .pdf. (Same way I have always done it.)
2. Various applications.... for instance on my Iphone, I had saved the document to Dropbox, I can't read it on my phone from within Dropbox or any other app that normally "reads" .pdf files. I also tried e-mailing the document to myself and opening it on my Iphone...still no luck. Another person tried to read it on their Mac desktop, but not sure with what program and still no luck...he was the one who first brought it to my attention.
3. On another PC which I know doesn't have the font installed it looks just fine using Google Docs or Adobe Reader 10.1.3.
My theory about it only being eligible on Apple products is no longer valid however because one of the peole that I sent it to said all was fine until 2 weeks ago and he is a dedicated PC user.
I will e-mail you the .pdf file right away. Thanks so much for your help in this matter.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the function to reseize the Font in an iBook is not functioning properly.
I recommend a few things here. First close all the apps that are running in the background:
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that, restart the phone, and try again.

2. Check for app updates
You can setup apps to update automatically in Settings > iTunes & App Store, but make sure that your apps are up to date:
Open the App Store and tap Updates. If updates are available, tap Update All.
If prompted, enter your iTunes Store account information. App Store will then download and install the app updates.
Note: Some apps may require a Wi-Fi connection to update.
3. Install another app from the App Store
If none of your user-installed apps will launch, there could be an issue with Apple ID authorization. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information. You can also remove an app from your iOS device and download it again from the App Store or sync the app from your computer.Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.
4. Restart the app
If the issue affects only a single app, try closing just that app.
5. Restart your device
Turn the device off and on.
6. Reinstall the affected app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-right corner of the app.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
Press the Home button.
Go to the App Store.
Search for the app and then download it again.

Aha! I have sorted it.
For those with similar problems, the solution is this:
Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers
Then delete DigiDioMidiDriver.plugin

Embedded Quicktime not playing correctly in InDesign PDF - please help!!

ok - I have an issue that I can't work out and I'm hoping someone can help - tried searching for an answer to no avail. I've just built my first interactive PDF portfolio in InDesign. I should point out that I'm a producer/editor, so my knowledge of InDesign & Acrobat is not extensive. The PDF includes some embedded Quicktime movies. The movies play normally on one of my monitors (Samsung 1680x1050), but will not play correctly on my other two monitors (2x Samsung 1280x1024) - the audio plays and the play controller appears to be working but the video area is just all white...HOWEVER...if I open the PDF and play just one of the videos on my 1680x1050 monitor first, then all videos play correctly on all monitors. Have tried opening the PDF on another desktop and the movies do not work (in the same manner as above)- also tried on my laptop and the movies play correctly. Please help if you can - I need to get this out to clients and I'm baffled!! Thank You!

MY FONT LOOKS DIFFERENT IN INDESIGN PAGES PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hello, I have a majo problem here. I have all my pages written in one font, Arial Narrow, however the width of the font looks different from page to page, it looks bold on page 1 and 2, and on page 3 it looks fine, is there any invisible setting applied to the whol page? why does it look bold? I did try toprint them, they do look different, also, there is no stroke set, i checked, and color is set to black not registration. Is there anything else I am missing???? Please help!!!!

Transparency isn't something you would adjust, per se.
Imported art may have transparency in it (like a transparent background), or you may have applied an effect like a glow or a drop shadow, or used a blending mode (all of which are transparency effects) on an object on your document page, or even adjusted an object's opacity in the effects panel to make the background show through (this is true tranparency inthe classic sense). Any of these things will result in ID redrawing the page and "emboldening" the type on that page.
There is no way to remove the eefect other than to remove the transparency from the page (if you are showing the icons for it in the pages panel, whcih you set in the panel options, you'll see a small checkerboard next to the page icon in the panel if there is transparency in use). To assure that all pages look the same if you are going to use transparency on any page, you can add a transparent object to the master page.

Converting a long to a string (PLEASE HELP)

I am trying to convert a long to a string so that I can put it into a vector. I have this:

String s = fileSize.toString();

When i try this, i get an error that long can not be dereferenced. Can anyone please help?

There are two ways to solve this problem. You are trying to convert a primative type to a string without using its wrapper function (Long). So if you created a long variable as a (Long) object you could call its toString() method and this would work...
The other way is to simply use the static method in the String class valueOf(long) as follows:
String longString = String.valueOf(i);Hope this helps.

I just purchased ExportPDF and I dont know how to open a PDF form I was sent by email from my University, Fill out the form and send it back. It wont let me save any changes, share the form in an email, anything!! I dont even know if im opening the form in the right way??

You don't need ExportPDF to open a PDF document or fill out a form; just the free Adobe Reader will do.
What is your operating system? Have you saved the PDF to your local disk, or are you opening it in a browser? If so, what browser?

How can i make the select statement to get the actual size for each image?

but it get error "ORA-00997:illegal use of LONG datatype"

LONG RAW and BLOB are very different data types. Oracle has been suggesting for quite a while that folks migrate from LONG RAW to BLOB-- it's much easier to work with BLOB data than LONG RAW data...
How much data, roughly, do you have in these columns. If it's relatively small, you may be able to use UTL_RAW.LENGTH. If it's longer, though, I believe you have to write a program that reads all the data and calculates the length as you go, which is obviously not particularly efficient...

My verizon contract ended in March 2014, and after paying all my dues, I deactivated my sim from India..
I tried to put a new sim here in India, but it says my sim is not unlocked yet!! CAn you please help!!

Local Carrier in India told me to unlock it from verizon first and then go to them.. Its also illegal for them to unlock the phone which is locked by other carriers!!
I am so disappointed with Verizon that even after paying my bills correctly.. (my number is 3392033441, pls chk my account details if interested) The customer rep that I spoke to for deactivation, just de-activated my phone, without unlocking... What is the purpose of contract then? as per contract, U will lock the sim til the contract is active., and once the contract is ended, dont you think its your duty to unlock the phone? Its a moral responsibility for verizon to do that.. Now after paying huge bills, I am unable to use my iphone that I got thru verizon!! really disappointed n after paying so much money, I feel this should be reported as well!!

You may try the list, especially 4) or 6).
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
If possible/applicable, you should save curent artwork first, of course.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

I can no longer save illustrator files, please HELP?

I have work saved on my mac that for some reason can no longer be saved as a illustrator file, to be honest there is quite a bit. I can save it a EPS or PDF but not Ai. Does anyone one have a solution for my problem? Or can i just save all work as EPS what effect will this have in the long run?? Cheers guys.

I have tried searching for them files in spotlight but nothing of that file name is found. I have also tried holding the command buttons mentioned when illustrator starts up but still no joy i cannot save ai files in my first user account. I have also tried go to folder, still no joy. The folder with illustrator settings cannot be found...
Should i just save all work to disk and then delete the first user and start again in the user where ai files can be saved? Or should i remove illustrator, reinstall and look for the folder again?
Could you please in simplest form tell me how to find the folder in question, so that i am not missing something in my stress...

Cannot convert Word to PDF - please help?

Hi I am running Windows XP, Office 2003 and Acrobat Writer 5.
I've had the same setup for five years and have always been able to covert Word documents to PDF like this:
File/print - then I select Acrobat PDF writer from the list of printers, and click "print to file" and it's done.
I've created thousands of PDFs in this way. I've also reformatted my hard drive and re-installed all the same programs again, and always been able to print to PDF.
Last week I again reformatted my hard drive, and re-installed all the same programs that I have always had. I have changed nothing, absolutely nothing about the setup of the computer.
However, NOW when I click file/print from Word, there is no longer Acrobat PDF writer listed!
And so I cannot convert to PDF.
Can anyone please tell me how to get Acrobat back into my list of "printers"?

As I recall, Acrobat Distiller and Acrobat Writer are 2 different print drivers available with AA5. The Writer is not installed by default and is not recommended. It was almost not included with AA5 as I recall. It is no longer included with any distribution. The Acrobat Distiller printer (now renamed as the Adobe PDF printer) is the preferred method of printing with AA5. This latter process creates a PS file and then (using AcroTray running in the background) calls Distiller to complete the conversion from the PS file to the final PDF file. There are several options available under the list of settings. These can be set in the Acrobat Distiller printer properties and generally override the settings in Distiller. You can further make changes for the current printing in the printer properties menu of your current application.
Hope that helps explain what you have found. I still have AA5 running on XP. I also have a newer reader installed because of the limitations of reading some of the newer PDF files with AA5. I try to be careful with how I use Reader and AA5 as they can cause conflicts in what is used to open a PDF, and that is why this configuration is not recommended.
