Font not found -- Acrobat 8.1.6

I installed Acrobat 8.1.6 yesterday. I just opened a document and the program said it couldn't find the Arial narrow font.  How do I tell it where to look? Or otherwise get it back on track?

In XP, I just checked in Distiller and brought up the settings edit, then checked the font list in WINDOWS. You might try toggling the "use local fonts" selection in Acrobat. However, it may be that the font that is used in the PDF is not the same as the font in Windows, even if the name is the same. In that case there is not much you can do. Looking at the font list in the docment with ctrl-D might provide some insight.

  • "Font not found on the system" for work logo font

I just started a new job and every single AI file I work with in illustrator is using VTypewriterRoyal - the company logo.
It automatically defaults to Myriad with the msg:
"Font not found on the system; missing font has been substituted."
I've spent way too much time changing it back from Myriad once in AI + scouring the web for answers. Haven't come up with any.
No one else at work seems to have this problem. I've tried installing and uninstalling the font.
Redownloading as OTF instead of TTF.
Nothing is working, so I really really hope someone can help me since I'm going to be considered slow if I keep having to take the time to change every ******* file I open.
Adobe support is seemingly overly complicated and this issue is making me crazy!!!
Someone please help. I'm on a brand new iMac 27" using 10.6.8....
    Thanks.

    check your spelling/spacing
    I see
    VTypewriter Royal
    and
    VTypewriterRoyal
They are different names...one has a space, the other does not
They must match exactly to work correctly

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 - Fonts not found

We are changing our user from a Mac to a Windows (7) based computer and we are running in to issues with files that she created on the Mac version of Adobe Illustrator. She used some fonts (AGaramond-BoldItalic for example) and it works great on the Mac. I copied all the font files to the windows computer and made sure they work (opened Illustrator and created a document with the fonts).
The issue now is that when we open the old documents from the Mac on the Windows computer it gives an error "Font not found on the system; missing font has been substituted."
I am not sure how to tell the file that the fonts Are there because when it opens all the fonts are to a default Arial.
    So far I have tried:
    Removing all Adobefnt*.lst files
Resetting adobe settings by holding ctrl+alt+shift and opening the program
Testing the file on a brand new user account
    uninstall and reinstall the program
    None of these have worked.

There are more cache files than the adobefnt files.  See here for more detailed instructions on cleaning your font caches. That said, it sounds likely that the issue is that your fonts are mac only, as Larry said above.  You should be able to use Type -> Find Font... to replace them with whatever version you have on the PC but watch for formatting/flow changes.  Also, my condolences to your designer. ;-)

  • Activated fonts not found in the font list.

A constant problem - active fonts not found in the font list.
And often when I can find trouble fonts, they're not correctly alphabetically ordered. I understand this may be the fault of the font author - not saving the correct screen name for the font so it matches it's actual name.
Here's a strange case - Homestead. An approach to typography I've never seen before - you're meant to layer up multiple instances of the same text object and alter it's subset of the Homestead family. But activate the whole family and you'll never find more than one of it's family members at a time. Activate just one and you'll find it (not in alphabetical order, though). Deactivate that one and activate another - now you'll find it. This makes it's very cumbersome to use the font as intended. What is Aunt Illy doing here and why?
will I ever get along with fonts . . .

You have a font conflict on your machine. Clear your font cache, you must have another font conflicting. The whole family loads for me, and shows in Illustrator.
There are many products to clear your cache the one below is free for mac
    http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/
You can also find and delete all your .lst files, or use font doctor or Font Explorer X Pro

  • Suppress dialog box for font not found

using VB I open AI and load ai files and send commands to save them in several image types, there are times that a dialog box stating Font not found with OK Cancel button appears. I need to suppress this dialog so my program does not hang. any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks
    Medallo

You cannot suppress this warning. Every time you open a document Illustrator will let you know that you do not have the font on your computer or is not active.
The reason of this warning is because the layout may change, words or symbols could disappeared, etc. This warning cannot be ignore. If you do not have the font, you have to assigned a new font and make sure that the artwork is correct and nothing is missing.
    I hope this helps!

  • Fonts not found when using Xvfb

    Hi all,
I keep encountering "fonts specified in fonts.properties not found" whenever I execute rwserver.sh server=XXX.
fyi, I'm running Solaris8 on Sun SPACE machine. I use Xvfb downloaded from Oracle to allow report server to run after I logoff from the session. I realised that the report sever I created manually will die prematurely if I log out from the session when I use the "default" Xserver provided by Solaris.
And prior to running rwserver.sh I set the DISPLAY such DISPLAY=:1.0; export DISPLAY.
    pls advise.

I get the same errors on my Solaris system with xvfb, but it doesn't keep anything from working. My reports server comes up and works fine.

  • Font not found when launching OEM

Before the OEM window appears, messages apear saying:
Font specified in font.properties not found [--system-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific]
There are 21 lines of the same text as indicated above.
    Any suggestions?

Font specified in font.properties not found [--system-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific]
I don't think the font cause functional problem. It just doesn't look good. Right this is just warning, you could save ignore that.

  • Acrobat X Pro error "font not found" for all non-Adobe programs

I'm running Win 7 64-bit, Extensis Suitcase 3 (current version).
Having difficulty printing to PDF from all non-Adobe applications- everything from MS Word to Notepad. I can PDF fine from InDesign and Illustrator, whether using the File/Adobe PDF Presets or print-to-PDF. The problem occurs for me on all PS fonts that I have tested, whether very old or new. The fonts and files can be printed to Postscript printers with no problems- no missing fonts or substitutions. The problem only happens when trying to PDF in Acrobat.
I have two associates with printing issues, too. They are on XP and still use ATM 4.1. They've had similar PDFing problems since they were moved up to Acrobat Pro X.
    Thanks for any assistance.

Does Distiller know all of the font locations?

  • "Times" font not found. How do I fix this?

Hey folks, it's me with another epic font problem.
Windows XP environment, running Adobe Technical Communication Suite with Framemaker 8 and Acrobat 8 3D.
Ever since upgrading to versions 8, we get this error when we make a PDF from Framemaker:
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The "Times" Font is not available.
It will be replaced by "Times New Roman".
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Here's the weird stuff:
    - If the PDF is made via "Print to file" then distill the .ps file, the error does not show up.
    - If the PDF is made via "Save as PDF" the error appears in the Framemaker console, but ONLY when Distiller starts processing the files (as in, the unavailable font error does not appear when you simply OPEN the file; it only shows up once you start PDFing).
    - In EITHER CASE, the PDF seems to work, and we can print it on our local printer. But when we send it to the print shop the big high-speed super powerful industrial size printer won't accept the job due to missing font files, so printing FAILS.
    A bit more:
    - I've noticed that if I set Framemaker to NOT remember missing font names, and I open the files, PDF them, save and close the files, then open them again and PDF them a second time, then the problem disappears. I don't get the console message and the print shop can print the books from the SECOND PDF. But this is TEDIOUS and I would think unnecessary. Also, it doesn't seem like the fix is permanent. (The Times thing seems to creep back in somehow.)
Surely there is a better way. Note that none of us has a font on our system called simply "Times," so I don't even know where that's coming from.
    Any ideas?

Mike, I realize that we are getting into more of a Framemaker realm than Acrobat at this point (although I still think that this is an Acrobat problem), but is it possible to specify that Adobe PDF is the default printer ONLY when working in Framemaker? After all, we do other work here, and print to our default laser printer all the time.

  • Font not found when opening file and not able to resolve, but is listed in the fonts drop down list?

Hi, i just downloaded some files from a friend and he sent me a link to download the fonts. I did so and 98% of the fonts work, but there are two fonts i am struggling with.
When i open the file i get the font missing warning and it asks me to resolve the fonts. I cannot find the appropriate font in the drop down list so i click 'don't resolve' and start to edit the file. i then come across some text that has missing fonts and i am able to highlight the text and change the text to the appropriate font using the type tool and the font I am looking for is in the drop down list.
The fonts that aren't working are:
    Franchise Bold and BebasNeue
The problem is there are multiple separate incidents where these fonts occur, and going through changing each one manually would take a lot of time.
Is there something i can do to fix them all at once?
    Thanks,
    Harry

I do not see either font  in the list you show.  I see Bebas Neue xxx but no Bebas Neue without any extra style. Try Bebas Neue at Download Bebas Neue Font - Thousands of fonts to download for free

  • Font not found

Using /usr/dt/bin/sdtfontadm I can see the fonts currently installed on my system. Among them are for instance:
    -adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
    which is located in /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/
    or
    -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-c-70-jisx0201.1976-0
    located in /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc/
However using the font chooser under JDS there is no fxed font at all and the so called Helvetica looks more like Vera Sans Serif to me.
What am I supposed to do to make those Type-1 and bitmap fonts available under JDS?
    Thanks!
    Regards,
    Avery

If I copy eg. /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc/7x14.pcf.Z (which is a fixed font) to ~/.fonts and rerun fc-cache it becomes available in JDS as "Fixed". Just as I wanted.
Also I noticed that fonts.cache-1 files in /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc/ /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/ etc. are empty. Running fc-cache as root doesn't change this:
    root@athene /usr/openwin/lib/X11/fonts/misc # which fc-cache

  • Adobe Acrobat Distiller Process. Issue with Font(L0420P not found, using courier)

    Hi Everybody,
We are working for upgrade activities, which involves moving applications from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 Servers.
My applications uses Adobe Acrobat distiller, which is also getting upgraded along with the server from Adobe 4.0 to 5.0 (Installed licensed Adobe distiller).
I have been using Adobe distiller to convert .PS files into .PDF files. The conversion process requires the PSFonts such as (MB006, L0B, L0420P etc..), each font got a separate PFB and PFM extension files, which are kept in the folder name called "Psfonts" and has been included in "Font location" under Distiller settings.
Using Distiller( Adobe Acrobat distiller 4.0 ) in Windows 2000 didn't create any issues or error while converting .PS files into .PDF files, all the PDF files are generated by Distiller as expected and process without any Font issues.
In Windows Server 2003, I installed Adobe Acrobat distiller 5.0 and moved the Font Folder "Psfonts" from older server(Windows 2000 server) to the new server(Windows 2003) and started Adobe Acrobat distiller process(5.0) to convert .PS to .PDF, most of the .PS files gets converted into .PDF files but when .PS files which require the Font L0420P comes in for Distilling, it displays an error message as "L0420P not found, using courier".
I checked with the old Server's (Windows 2000) font folder (Psfonts), it has the same files(PFB and PFM) as present in the new Server(Windows 2003).
I tried to check the Particular Font name(L0420P) in Distiller-->Setting-->Job options-->Font-->Embedding-->Psfonts, but L0420P font alone is missing in the List.
Could you please help in resolving this Font issue.

You may like to try deleting the PsFonts entry from distiller and closing it. Restart the machine, make the entry of PSFonts agina and try creating PDF.

  • Smart card signature not found although it is plugged in with acrobat XI pro

We have upgraded to Acrobat XI pro, and our smart card signature is not found, however, when I open the file in adobe reader it locates my signature.

    Hi Bill.  Thanks for replying.
Unfortunately, I don't have the option of using the original DOCX file.  The author lost it, leaving only the pdf around
I'm using AA XI 11.0.06.  Upgraded this morning.  That's running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64.
I get the boundary boxes by clicking on the 'edit text and images' tool, and they appear.  Or don't in this case
I only need to change a few characters in the file.   However, even just opening up the file in AA and then saving, the "A = " "text" gets deleted.
Could it perhaps be something to do with embedded or missing maths fonts on my machine?  I mean, I don't get any warnings, just can't do anything with the A and AB italic bold text.
    Thanks!

  • Error 1311....source file not found Adobe Acrobat 8.2.0

I have Vista. I keep getting installing boxes and error messages:
    Error 1311. Source file not found: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Setup Files\{AC76BA86-1033-0000-7760-000000000003}\Data 1.cab.
Verify file exists and that you can access it.
I cannot find that file in the set up, so it's obviously missing. I have tried uninstalling, but still get the error messages, even though the Reader is working on my PC...it's just so annoying as I am constantly cancelling installation and cancellation boxes. Can I install this file?
    Thanks!

"I tried to uninstall Adobe Creative Master Suite CS3. It hasn't  uninstalled completely and has left traces of it still being on my  system."
You could always "wipe the slate" clean.
Any and all Adobe folders would be manually deleted. (Shift+Delete to remove them from the hard drive, not send to the recycle bin)
Click Start and Run. Type regedit and hit enter.
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE          delete all Adobe Folders (not just the keys, the whole folders - click once and hit Delete)
    Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE           do the same
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Change the value for the AllocateCDRoms entry to 0. (Right click and select Modify - type 0 and hit enter)
    Exit the Registry Editor.
    Reboot
You should not see this error anymore
Note: I only recommend this because you indicate that you have already attempted removing the entire creative suite. This will render it unfunctional if you do it. If you aren't comfortable with editing your registry, disregard these steps.
