Font preview as in Photoshop

This really is a no brainer...it is really annoying not being able to see the font before applying it. Bring this feature to Illustrator! Thanks

  • Photoshop CC font preview had to be set to none after OSX 10.8.3 update.

    Hi,
I own a Macbook Pro with retina display. When I last updated it I experienced problems in Photoshop CC with the color wheel spinning often for no apparent reason. I had never had this happen so I saw in the troubleshoot Photoshop article in Adobe help to set the preview size to none. Why do I have to suddenly disable parts of Photoshop on such a capable machine as this? I am glad the color wheel stopped spinning but I'm not glad that I have to find a way around having no font previews in Photoshop CC.
This is something I think should be fixed.
    Sincerely,
    Harold Williams

    @Noel
I did those steps and step 4 and 5. They tested good. I think step 6 did the trick but not immediately.  I could not do step 7 for some reason. I did not stop to figure it all out. I just kept going to step 8. This is where I began to see Photoshop become much more responsive. I moved all fonts that start with the letter A from ~/Library/Fonts  to my Desktop and now Photoshop is faster than I've seen in a while. No spinning color wheel, yet.  Now I have to find out which ones of those A fonts are bad by replacing them one at a time.
Thanks for pointing me back to that article. I guess I just got upset.
    Sincerly,

  • Font preview -- Photoshop CC -- Windows 7

EDIT: I did select "Large" from the TYPE menu (thought it was in Preferences), but this or "None" or the options did not change things.
    Windows 7
On my Laptop, I can scroll through my font menu and see the text change.
Not so on my Desktop. There, I can click in the font name box and use the up and down arrows to do this.
Trying to find why the difference, I found this online:
    FROM:  https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/fonts.html#previewing_fonts
    Photoshop Help / Fonts
Updated for Photoshop CC Version 2014
    Previewing fonts
You can view samples of a font in the font family and font style menus in the Character panel and other areas in the application from where you can choose fonts.
To turn off the preview feature or change the point size of font names, do one of the following:
(CC, CS6) Choose Type > Font Preview Size, and choose an option.
The problem:  on my Desktop version of Photoshop CC, there is no Preference option as stated above.
I prefer seeing the menu scroll and to point and click, rather than having to use the up and down arrows to move through the font list sequentially.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you.

    Ah! Good question.
I had assumed I had the same version on each computer because I always keep both up-to-date.
Also, with the new CC, I no longer knew where to find the version number. Now I know :-)
    Here's what I have:
    DESKTOP:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 14.2.1 (14.2.1 20140207.r.570 2014/02/07:23:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    LAPTOP:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 2014.1.0 20140730.r.148 2014/07/30:23:59:59  x64
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
I am going to guess that is what makes the difference.
Even if so, I prefer being able to see the font menu list, rather than using the up/down arrows.
    Looking forward to your feedback/response.
    Thanks!
    Bob

  • Photoshop CS5 crashes when font preview on

If this isn't the right forum please let me know.
I have had this issue ever since I purchased photoshop over a year ago and never have found a solution.  I have followed the suggestions that I have found given to others but nothing helps.  Once I have turned on font preview the only way I can get Photoshop to open and stay open is to manually delete the preferences.  The font test script claims that I have no defective fonts.  I have twon computers bothe running 64bit windows 7 pro. one with 12G memory 2TB disk space, quad core 2.5gHz processor with only 350G occupying the HD, and I have a laptop with only 4G memory, 222Gb HD (half full), and a 2gHz single core processor.  Photoshop only has issues with font preview on the more powerful machine.
Now when I run the font test script it says I have 1600 fonts on my system, but I only show about half that in my font folder. Is photoshop reading fonts from elsewhere than c:\windows\fonts

Photoshop will only see fonts that are installed in your system.
Fonts do not have to be corrupt to cause errors and problems. Some are just poorly written, and Photoshp cannot deal with them. Some are generally OK, but due to their writing, Photosho cannot display them. Photoshop is very sensitive to fonts, unlike many programs, such as a wordprocessor. This article, while written for Titler in Premiere Pro/Premiere Elements, has some tips that apply to PS, as well: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/479026?tstart=0

  • How do I turn off font preview in Photoshop CC2014

Though I can see that the font preview on the fonts selector could be useful, I dislike that is has been forced upon us. It slows things down, and I don't need to preview the fonts.
Is there any way to turn this off please?

    Hi Andrew,
A lot of users requested for this feature, that is why it was implemented in CC2014 version.
You can revert to Photoshop CC version as there is no way right now to turn of the font preview.
Thank you for posting on Adobe Forums.

  • Font not showing in Photoshop (works in non-Adobe programs)

    Hi all,
One of the fonts I want to use in Photoshop CS6 is not showing up. I installed the font, it is working in Word / Gimp / Paint.Net etc, though not in Photoshop or Illustrator. In the picture below you see the font preview, the installed font properties, a preview in Word and the absence of the font in Photoshop.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Bram

There must be something in the font's encoding that Adobe doesn't like. If you run the font through an application like Font Validator it shows several errors. I guess Adobe apps are more stringent with fonts than other applications.

  • Text / Font Preview

This may have been mentioned before, but I wanted to get it out of my head before I forgot it.
Dream: A font preview system within illustrator.
    1. Type in your sample text within a dialog and preview typed characters on all the fonts of your system.
    2. The ability to save your fonts within illustrator in sets
These two features would save so much time scrolling thru font selections.
    Robert Good.

I don't recall a setting that would cause that behavior, but does anyone really know all the many, many settings?
What operating system are you running?
What has changed on your computer since it last worked?
Does the text have any layer style effects?
This could be a situation where Photoshop CS3 is falling out of date with functionality of modern video drivers, though more often it is something that's been installed or configured.
    Some things to try:
Try resetting the Character tool by making the Character panel visible then using the menu at the upper-right:
Try resetting your Photoshop overall preferences to defaults (Ctrl - Shift - Alt immediately after starting Photoshop from its icon or menu item) just to be sure it's not a heretofore undiscovered setting or an invalid combination of settings.
Make sure you have the latest video drivers, or in some case a driver that's been rolled back to an older version (might be more applicable in this situation).  Experimentation may be in order.

  • Fonts behave different in Photoshop in comparison with Illustrator

I have a problem: it seems that some fonts behave different in Photoshop CS than in Illustrator CS on my Windows XP. Where Illustrator opens a vector (Ill) EPS file correct Photoshop shows me wrong characters sometimes: for example: an é becomes a wrong character: Capital O with a stroke through it. Frutiger was used.
My question is: where does Photoshop behave different reading fonts in comparison with Illustrator?

Perhaps you forgot to embed the font?
Here comes an example, using characters  with accents.
The font is GillSans-Schoolbook. The font or subset is embedded.
The file extension TXT should be replaced by EPS after downloading.
The EPS doesn't contain a preview image.
The file is correctly handled by
    Photoshop CS2 (opened)
    InDesign CS2 (placed)
    Illustrator CS2 (opened)
    PSAlter (PostScript interpreter by Quite)
All characters with accents are missing in
    Word 2007 (insert graphic)

  • Turn off font preview in PS CC 2014?

I'm attempting to troubleshoot performance issues with Photoshop and one thing I am seeing in Adobe's FAQs is that I should be able to turn off font previews in the preferences in the Type preference panel. However, I am not seeing that option. Has this been removed or moved elsewhere in PS CC 2014 or is it no longer considered a relevant performance tweak... or is something wrong with my install? Screenshot:
    My version of Photoshop is 2014.1.0 / 20140730.r.148 x64
Running on Mac OS X 10.9.4
    iMac 3.5GHz i7, 32GB RAM, 6TB RAID 0, 1TB startup SSD
PS. The issue I am actually troubleshooting (if anyone reading this has any insight) is that large doc sizes (~100MB) with many layers (both vector and type) have become largely unusable as minor edits such as resizing or moving a layer results in beachball for upwards of 20-30 seconds with the Console reporting that Photoshop has been "caught burning CPU!" (exclamation point is Apple's, not mine). Anyway, sounds naughty. Hardware tests have come up empty so I am revisiting my otherwise unchanged settings to see if I can fix the issues.
Thanks in advance for any advice or thoughts!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh... in the Type MENU, not the preferences... Thanks!

  • Illustrator CS2 Font preview in Windows

Hi, i noticed that there is a preferences setting that says it enables font preview. However, what i am looking to do is view the font in the toolbar where the font selection is like in Photoshop. I have seen it function on Macs I believe, but I don't know how to make it work in Illustrator CS2 in windows. The font preview does not seem to turn that on. Can anybody help me with this? it makes it a lot easier to be able to view the font preview before choosing the fonts so i don't have to choose every font in order to see what it is.

    Will,
Have you tried placing in new documents, and have you tried deleting the preferences, or
    Moving the folder?

  • My Font Preview not working in AI CS5

I'm new to Illustrator so maybe I'm missing something but my font preview won't work in the Character panel (ctrl + t.)  I have checked my preferences and the option to show the font preview is checked.  I can see a preview of the fonts if I go to the menu and select Type/ Font but that is the only place the preview shows up.
I am working on a Windows 7 Pro system.
Is there something I can try to get this feature working?    Thanks in advance.

I don't believe your answer is correct. Windows can show font previews in all menus and panels because Photoshop CS5 does this already. So if Photoshop can do it, why can't Illustrator do it too?
I'll keep looking for a fix...

  • Illustrator CS5.1 Font Preview fails with OS X Yosemite upgrade

just upgraded to Yosemite and after updating the Java needed to even open Illustrator and Photoshop CS5.1
the Font Preview option in the Character window is completely empty (with the exception of the font you have highlighted) effectively rendering the font preview option useless.
is there a patch in the works?
or some other way around this?

  • Font Preview

I've hunted for an answer, but I just can't find one anywhere. I am running windows 7 with illustrator CS4. The font preview does not work (I have font preview checked in the type preferences). How can I fix this? It is a major pain to have to open up photoshop to browse through fonts because illustrator doesn't have a preview.
    Illustrator
    Photoshop

Try this.  Highlight the text you want to change.  With the text highlighted place your cursor in the character window, double click so that it starts blinking without the font name being highlighted in blue. Then hit the up or down arrow key to go through your fonts.  The text you highlighted originally should dynamically change as each new font is selected.  I used this all the time in CS3 on a pc for me.  However I just moved to a mac and upgraded to CS5 and can't get it to work yet. Good luck.

  • Illustrator CS4 and my drop down menu displaying different typefaces is no longer displaying font preview.

I am using Illustrator CS4 and my drop down menu displaying different typefaces is no longer showing all of them, just blank spaces where they would be...that is unless I put my cursor over it and I can then see the typeface. This is more of a nuisance than anything and didn't happen until I updates OS X to Yosemite. I currently am operating OS X  Yosemetie 10.10.2
I have attached a screen shot. You can see that the font highlighted as the cursor is over it I can see the preview...but one I move the cursor it appears like all the others in the list and is blank.
    HELP!
