Font preview crashing. Illustrator CS5 - OS X 10.10.1

Hi There,
I bought a new laptop; OS X 10.10.1 and downloaded CS5. Since then, Illustrator crashes every time I scroll through the font preview. Has anyone else experienced this? An solutions to resolve this issue?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

I have a similar problem - just downloaded Yosemite (10.10.2) and I already had Illustrator CS5 and the rest of the creative suite installed. Illustrator crashes every time I scroll through the font preview in the character menu.
One solution (not ideal) in to go into Illustrator>>Preferences>>Type>>and uncheck font preview.
Others have suggested clearing the font cache or deleting (possibly corrupt) downloaded fonts. Check out this link:
Illustrator CS5 crashes when I open fonts menu - Graphic Design Stack Exchange
I tried some of these. Cleared my cache using fontnuke. No avail.

  • Missing Fonts in Adobe Illustrator CS5 Version 15.1.0 Agenda Bold and Agenda Black

    Hi,
We are using Adobe Illustrator CS5 Version 15.1.0  to re-create Points of Sales (PoS) that our 3rd party company sends us. But when we open the PoS from the 3rd Party we get a message saying we are missing 2 fonts. The names of these are Agenda Bold and Agenda Black. Are these Fonts from a newer version of Illustrator or are we able to purchase/download these?
Any help would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks,

These are not standard system or Adobe fonts. You will have to buy them from whatever type foundry that produces them.

  • How Win 7 automatic updates corrupts user accounts and crashes Illustrator CS5

A resolution or prevention is needed to prevent reoccurance a of new Illustrator CS5 crash:  The crash apparently prevents Illustrator from reading the AGM.dll located in the Support folder when trying to open any file with Illustrator.  Profounfly, reinstallation of the entire CS5, nor of just Illustrator 5, nor of just 5.1 does not correct the problem.   A new user account has to be created, whcih of course requires copying all user files to the new user account if you do not want to have to log in under a different user account just to use Illustrator.   David

Thank you, I have returned to that update setting.  Knowing I am unable to determine from the update details that it is going to cause an unexpected error, I should be able to narrow down which set of updates are involved.

After updating to Yosemite no font names on Illustrator CS5

Same here. I've attached a screen shot of what the font menu looks like in Adobe Illustrator CS 5.1, now that I've upgraded to OSX Yosemite (10.10).
    No fonts.

  • MBP Retina Display Font Crash Illustrator CS5

just purchased a new mac book pro with retina display. Everytime I open my illustrator and try to scroll through the font list it crashes. This is a brand new install and a brand new computer - I haven't installed any fonts or brought any files over from my desktop mac - so font should not be an issue. Is Adobe working on a fix? will this issue happen still if I upgrade to 6? I'm not willing to spend the monthly fee unless it will be a guarantee fix.
    Thanks.

Take it back and get a refund. What are you waiting for, your new Mac does not work correctly.

  • Font issue in Illustrator CS5

I upgraded to CS5 a little while back and since then I have been having "font" problems. I like to type out a word and then go to the charater pallet and then scroll thru the font list to see how that word will look in diffrent fonts. Well it use to work GREAT and now it's hit or miss (more miss) when it works......now when I'm scrolling down thru them it will all the sudden jump to the bottom of the list where there is about 5 fonts and just scroll thru those but even there it will mix the fonts up un the word (so each letter is potentially a diffrent font).
    Any advise would be greatful!!

Hi, I'm getting the same issue, but cleaning the font caches hasn't seemed to work.
It's only illustrator which has this problem, when scrolling font's if it comes to a font it doesn't like (even if these fonts load fine in other programs) it skips down to the bottom of the list and just cycles through them instead.
    (using CS5, on a Windows 7, 64bit HP Laptop)
    thanks,

  • Large files crashing illustrator CS5

We've recently upgraded our computers to windows 7 and we're getting a lot of crashes that seem to be caused by illustrator. When our designers are using quite large files (think 500MB) the computers will spontaneously restart (or now BSOD after I turned the automatic restart off).
The computers are ACER Veriton X490G with in intel  i5 processors (2.8ghz), 4GB ram, and NVIDIA Geforce 8400GS graphics cards.
It happens most often when opening a file but also at other times while hey are working on the files.
Any help diagnosing this would be very appreciated.
    Regards
    Bernard

Well the machines fit well within the system requirements for both illustrator and win7. Defrag is fine. Scratch disk is 320GB at the moment so that shouldn't be a big problem. Is there any way to tell whether it is a memory issue? Eg see how much illustrator is using/have a look at crash logs for illustrator?

  • Create outlines rendering font poorly in Illustrator CS5, not sure what is happening

Is there a reason why when I convert a font using create outlines, this is happening with Stempel Schneidler btw, it appears to add a bit of weight to the type? I've never run across this issue before. I first noticed it when I printed out the document. It all of a sudden seemed heavier compared to the font normally. The problem becomes much more pronounced at a small scale. I notice it onscreen AND when I print it. I wouldn't normally create outlines but the letterspacing is pretty tight on this and I need to make a TY ligature.
Has anyone ever experienced something like this? I need to get this resolved ASAP as the proof of this job needs to go out by Friday. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Mike,
Just to make sure: you do have Align to Pixel grid unticked, no?
It makes a thick mess of letter shapes if ticked (or should I say thicked).
You can see it in the Transform panel.

  • Font Preview CS5

Can someone walk me through the steps to enable Font Preview in Fireworks CS5? I recently went from Fireworks MX to CS5 so I am a behind the times. Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards, Paul

Built into Illustrator you can preview fonts, but only by their font name.
Extensis suitcase is a plug in that allows preview fonts in custom text of your choice.

  • Font Preview suddenly missing

Yes, my Font Previews are missing. I have it cheked/turned on in Preferences-Type, as Large. Trying an other size (like Medium, Extra Large) makes PS crash.
The only thing I can think of that caused it is that I added Fireworks and Illustrator (from the original CS5 Web/Design CD's). The Font Preview in Fireworks CS5 and InDesign CS4 do work, not in Illustrator CS5. All elements are updated. I'm working with Windows XP SP3.
Anyone have ani ideas? Thank you on forehand!

    Edit:
Got this message when trying to use the Type tool:

  • Fonts preview problem since I updated the OS Yosemite 10.10.2

Hello everyone, I have Illustrator CS5 on a Mac and I just updated the OS to Yosemite 10.10.2 and since then I am experiencing problems to see the fonts preview on the Character panel. Instead of seeing the preview, the list is in blank, but if I put the cursor on the list I can see the preview but I want to fix this and I want to see the preview as always. I will appreciate your comments. Thanks!

    Valeta,
I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
It was first presented in this post #15 by TheUlser:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6854594#6854594
It has been described on this Adobe page:
    http://capitalmacservice.com/font-preview-working-illustrator-cs-5-yosemite-fix/
It may also depend on the monitor, as it appears from post #29 by Loncar in the same thread.
Obviously, this also influences some other things so there may be a downside to it, Obviously, the reduced transparency influences the appearance of other things, but so far no one has complained about drawbacks.

  • Font Preview CS3

    Hi All,
My font preview in Illustrator CS3 does not work. I have checked under preferences>type to be sure font preview is checked and it is, but it still does not work.
    Any ideas?

Does anyone else see this as asinine? Sorry to say it to you windows folks, but font preview has been available in the type menu, font face drop down (when type tool is selected), AND the character pallet in the Mac version since like Illustrator 8.
I just took a new job where I'm having to use Illustrator on Windows and it's simply infuriating. I've got CS3 right now and optimistically downloaded the CS4 trial in hopes that Adobe would finally bring a decent font preview to Illustrator for Windows. Nope. Wtf guys? Is it really that hard?
Oh and what's with the weird scrolling behavior in the character pallet in Windows? If I attempt scrolling through the list of fonts there, the list does this weird animation scrolly thing where I feel like I'm going to have a seizure and when it stops I don't know where I'm at in the list.
The Type -> Font menu is no better - at least on my windows machine, I can't use the scroll wheel on my mouse to move up and down in that menu, I have to find the tiny arrow at the top or bottom of the screen and click that. Man this sucks. I feel like I'm easily 30% slower on the PC version than I am on the Mac simply because of 1) the extra effort it takes to preview fonts 2) I can't scroll side-to-side like I could on my mac without ctrl-scrolling my mouse's wheel and 3) the time it takes to curse Adobe each time I want to do either #1 or #2.
Ugh. I give up. Any chance someone could write a plugin that would fix all this for us? Call it a Make-Illustrator-Work-Right plugin for me. Thanks.

  • Illustrator CS5 crashes when scrolling through font menu.

    Hello Adobe Community,
I am in desperate need of help with my Illustrator CS5 program. It has suddenly started to crash when I scroll through the Font menu from the Type menu at the top of the program. I am using a late 2013 Macbook Pro 13" with retina display on OSX 10.9.2. I am using Illustrator CS5 v15.0.0. I have read through scores of forum threads and tried every solution that was suggested and still cannot resolve this problem. I am stumped and my back is up against the wall. My work flow has now slowed to crawl since I have to now search through fonts using FontBook then manually type in the font I need in the font character field. I believe this problem is due to a corrupt font. The trouble started after I installed a new font. I have since deactivated and deleted that font but the problem persists. I am not a "tech head" so I don't know how to generate those long code pages that some can. I can make pretty pictures with Adobe products but I can't service those Adobe products.
Here is a list of things I have tried so far (at least what I remember):
    *     I have deactivated and deleted the font I believed to be corrupt.
    *     I have validated all my fonts with FontBook and deleted all corrupt files.
    *     I have turned off the "enable missing glyph protecting" in the preferences.
    *     I have used FontNuke to delete my font caches.
    *     I have reset my Pram.
    *     I have repaired all my permission with disk utility.
    *     I have removed all fonts except for the standard system fonts.
    *     I have uninstalled Illustrator and done a clean install (my system was migrated from a backup-however is has worked fine for months).
    *     I have deleted my library/preferences/abobefnt.plst.
    *     I have change the font preview to small.
    *     I deleted all my fonts and restored them from time machine from before I had installed that last font I believed to be buggy.
    *     I have prayed to Jebus.
So far none of this has worked. The closest I got was after deleting all the corrupt fonts with FontBook. It worked for a day. Then the next day started crashing again. I am completely lost at this point. I don't know what else to do.
Can anybody please help me figure this out?
    BK
Update - I figured out how those crash reports are done so if anyone thinks they can help but needs to see a report please let me know and I will paste it into a reply.
Update 2 - I tried turning off the font preview all together and this seems to have stopped the crashes so far. I think the bug can be isolated to this function. Problem is I need that function.

  • Illustrator CS5: Random Crashes When Saving Or Previewing My Work

    Hello Adobe Community,
I tend to get errors when I save my work in Illustrator. A few read as follows:
    "Unknown Error"
    "Can't Save Illustration"
    "Not Enough Ram Available"
The last error I got read: "Can't finish previewing. There is not enough memory ID = -108"
These errors don't happen all the time, but they occur often. And when they do occur, more often than not end up crashing Illustrator and can't save whatever I just worked on.
Not sure what's causing them. Here's what I've tried doing:
    Cleared my Illustrator preferences
Uninstall the whole Aodbe Suite > Run the Adobe Remover Tool > Reinstall Adobe Suite
    Run disk clean up/defragmenter
I get some of these errors even when I only have Illustrator and my browser open - no other programs are running except for anti-virus/malware software.
Here's some trivial information about my machine and the file I'm working on:
    RAM: 4GB
The file I'm trying to edit is 0.97MB and stored locally on my desktop (as opposed to a network drive)
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 8400GS (up-to-date)
Hard drive has 231GB of free space
    64-bit processor
    Runs DirectX 11
I'm in the process of validating my fonts as I've read that invalid fonts sometimes cause issues.
Any other suggestions? Please help me! Thanks in advance!

Have you considered that this could be something you do in the files thmeselves? Gradient meshes, blends, filters all can consume lots of memory and when AI is trying to save the Preview, their combined requirements may exceed what your system can handle. also your file may simply be "bad" in that it may have corrupted data somewhere. This can happen when it was originally created elsewhere or data inserted from an external source using placing or copy&paste....
