Font Preview Illustrator CC

Hi,
Just upgraded to CC on Windows 7 and noticed the font preview is now much smaller than in CS6. I have it set to size large in preferences, but I'm having a terrible time seeing them. Is there anyway to make the preview bigger? I set it to small and medium just to see and I have to wonder what the programmers were thinking when they set previews this small. Why can't they just give us an option to select what point size we want to preview the fonts at?

The font preview between the two versions is the same. The difference is that Adobe doesn't have the font preview displayed using the font name anymore but now has the name of the font using regular text on the left and the font preview using the word 'sample' on the right.

  • Illustrator CS4 and my drop down menu displaying different typefaces is no longer displaying font preview.

I am using Illustrator CS4 and my drop down menu displaying different typefaces is no longer showing all of them, just blank spaces where they would be...that is unless I put my cursor over it and I can then see the typeface. This is more of a nuisance than anything and didn't happen until I updates OS X to Yosemite. I currently am operating OS X  Yosemetie 10.10.2
I have attached a screen shot. You can see that the font highlighted as the cursor is over it I can see the preview...but one I move the cursor it appears like all the others in the list and is blank.

  • Illustrator CS2 Font preview in Windows

Hi, i noticed that there is a preferences setting that says it enables font preview. However, what i am looking to do is view the font in the toolbar where the font selection is like in Photoshop. I have seen it function on Macs I believe, but I don't know how to make it work in Illustrator CS2 in windows. The font preview does not seem to turn that on. Can anybody help me with this? it makes it a lot easier to be able to view the font preview before choosing the fonts so i don't have to choose every font in order to see what it is.

    Will,
Have you tried placing in new documents, and have you tried deleting the preferences, or

  • Font preview crashing. Illustrator CS5 - OS X 10.10.1

    Hi There,
I bought a new laptop; OS X 10.10.1 and downloaded CS5. Since then, Illustrator crashes every time I scroll through the font preview. Has anyone else experienced this? An solutions to resolve this issue?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

I have a similar problem - just downloaded Yosemite (10.10.2) and I already had Illustrator CS5 and the rest of the creative suite installed. Illustrator crashes every time I scroll through the font preview in the character menu.
One solution (not ideal) in to go into Illustrator>>Preferences>>Type>>and uncheck font preview.
Others have suggested clearing the font cache or deleting (possibly corrupt) downloaded fonts. Check out this link:
Illustrator CS5 crashes when I open fonts menu - Graphic Design Stack Exchange
I tried some of these. Cleared my cache using fontnuke. No avail.

  • Problem with embedding fonts in Illustrator CS5

I have just installed Illustrator CS5, and have tested creating a PDF document based on one of my existing files, as well as a new file.
When I open these PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I am told that Acrobat cannot access one of the embedded fonts (Korinna BT).
I have had no issues with embedding this font in Illustrator CS4, and (strangely), when I open these files in other PDF viewers (Preview and PDFPenPro), they report no issues.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I have removed and reinstalled the font in question, and tested/verified that the font is OK - but still not joy.
    Regards
    Jeremy

The error message I get is:
"Cannot extract the embedded font 'MVZTIW+KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
When I check the fonts in the PDF in "Document Properties" in Adobe Acrobat the following is shown:
    "KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular
         Type: TrueType
         Encoding: Ansi
         Actual Font: Adobe Serif MM
         Actual Font Type: Type 1"
It seems that Illustrator is adding some strange "code" ('MVZTIW') to the beginning of the font, which means the actual font can't be found and extracted.

  • Text / Font Preview

This may have been mentioned before, but I wanted to get it out of my head before I forgot it.
Dream: A font preview system within illustrator.
    1. Type in your sample text within a dialog and preview typed characters on all the fonts of your system.
    2. The ability to save your fonts within illustrator in sets
These two features would save so much time scrolling thru font selections.
    Robert Good.

I don't recall a setting that would cause that behavior, but does anyone really know all the many, many settings?
What operating system are you running?
What has changed on your computer since it last worked?
Does the text have any layer style effects?
This could be a situation where Photoshop CS3 is falling out of date with functionality of modern video drivers, though more often it is something that's been installed or configured.
    Some things to try:
Try resetting the Character tool by making the Character panel visible then using the menu at the upper-right:
Try resetting your Photoshop overall preferences to defaults (Ctrl - Shift - Alt immediately after starting Photoshop from its icon or menu item) just to be sure it's not a heretofore undiscovered setting or an invalid combination of settings.
Make sure you have the latest video drivers, or in some case a driver that's been rolled back to an older version (might be more applicable in this situation).  Experimentation may be in order.

  • My Font Preview not working in AI CS5

I'm new to Illustrator so maybe I'm missing something but my font preview won't work in the Character panel (ctrl + t.)  I have checked my preferences and the option to show the font preview is checked.  I can see a preview of the fonts if I go to the menu and select Type/ Font but that is the only place the preview shows up.
I am working on a Windows 7 Pro system.
Is there something I can try to get this feature working?    Thanks in advance.

I don't believe your answer is correct. Windows can show font previews in all menus and panels because Photoshop CS5 does this already. So if Photoshop can do it, why can't Illustrator do it too?
I'll keep looking for a fix...

  • Font Preview CS5

Can someone walk me through the steps to enable Font Preview in Fireworks CS5? I recently went from Fireworks MX to CS5 so I am a behind the times. Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards, Paul

Built into Illustrator you can preview fonts, but only by their font name.
Extensis suitcase is a plug in that allows preview fonts in custom text of your choice.

  • Font Preview suddenly missing

Yes, my Font Previews are missing. I have it cheked/turned on in Preferences-Type, as Large. Trying an other size (like Medium, Extra Large) makes PS crash.
The only thing I can think of that caused it is that I added Fireworks and Illustrator (from the original CS5 Web/Design CD's). The Font Preview in Fireworks CS5 and InDesign CS4 do work, not in Illustrator CS5. All elements are updated. I'm working with Windows XP SP3.
Anyone have ani ideas? Thank you on forehand!

    Edit:
Got this message when trying to use the Type tool:

  • Font Preview

I've hunted for an answer, but I just can't find one anywhere. I am running windows 7 with illustrator CS4. The font preview does not work (I have font preview checked in the type preferences). How can I fix this? It is a major pain to have to open up photoshop to browse through fonts because illustrator doesn't have a preview.
    Illustrator
    Photoshop

Try this.  Highlight the text you want to change.  With the text highlighted place your cursor in the character window, double click so that it starts blinking without the font name being highlighted in blue. Then hit the up or down arrow key to go through your fonts.  The text you highlighted originally should dynamically change as each new font is selected.  I used this all the time in CS3 on a pc for me.  However I just moved to a mac and upgraded to CS5 and can't get it to work yet. Good luck.

  • Font Preview CS3

    Hi All,
My font preview in Illustrator CS3 does not work. I have checked under preferences>type to be sure font preview is checked and it is, but it still does not work.
    Any ideas?

Does anyone else see this as asinine? Sorry to say it to you windows folks, but font preview has been available in the type menu, font face drop down (when type tool is selected), AND the character pallet in the Mac version since like Illustrator 8.
I just took a new job where I'm having to use Illustrator on Windows and it's simply infuriating. I've got CS3 right now and optimistically downloaded the CS4 trial in hopes that Adobe would finally bring a decent font preview to Illustrator for Windows. Nope. Wtf guys? Is it really that hard?
Oh and what's with the weird scrolling behavior in the character pallet in Windows? If I attempt scrolling through the list of fonts there, the list does this weird animation scrolly thing where I feel like I'm going to have a seizure and when it stops I don't know where I'm at in the list.
The Type -> Font menu is no better - at least on my windows machine, I can't use the scroll wheel on my mouse to move up and down in that menu, I have to find the tiny arrow at the top or bottom of the screen and click that. Man this sucks. I feel like I'm easily 30% slower on the PC version than I am on the Mac simply because of 1) the extra effort it takes to preview fonts 2) I can't scroll side-to-side like I could on my mac without ctrl-scrolling my mouse's wheel and 3) the time it takes to curse Adobe each time I want to do either #1 or #2.
Ugh. I give up. Any chance someone could write a plugin that would fix all this for us? Call it a Make-Illustrator-Work-Right plugin for me. Thanks.

  • Fonts preview problem since I updated the OS Yosemite 10.10.2

Hello everyone, I have Illustrator CS5 on a Mac and I just updated the OS to Yosemite 10.10.2 and since then I am experiencing problems to see the fonts preview on the Character panel. Instead of seeing the preview, the list is in blank, but if I put the cursor on the list I can see the preview but I want to fix this and I want to see the preview as always. I will appreciate your comments. Thanks!

    Valeta,
I believe this may solve it:
Open System Preferences and go to Accessibility. Next, select Display from the source list along the left, then check the box labelled Reduce transparency.
It was first presented in this post #15 by TheUlser:
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6854594#6854594
It has been described on this Adobe page:
    http://capitalmacservice.com/font-preview-working-illustrator-cs-5-yosemite-fix/
It may also depend on the monitor, as it appears from post #29 by Loncar in the same thread.
Obviously, this also influences some other things so there may be a downside to it, Obviously, the reduced transparency influences the appearance of other things, but so far no one has complained about drawbacks.

  • Photoshop CC font preview had to be set to none after OSX 10.8.3 update.

    Hi,
I own a Macbook Pro with retina display. When I last updated it I experienced problems in Photoshop CC with the color wheel spinning often for no apparent reason. I had never had this happen so I saw in the troubleshoot Photoshop article in Adobe help to set the preview size to none. Why do I have to suddenly disable parts of Photoshop on such a capable machine as this? I am glad the color wheel stopped spinning but I'm not glad that I have to find a way around having no font previews in Photoshop CC.
This is something I think should be fixed.
    Sincerely,
    Harold Williams

    @Noel
I did those steps and step 4 and 5. They tested good. I think step 6 did the trick but not immediately.  I could not do step 7 for some reason. I did not stop to figure it all out. I just kept going to step 8. This is where I began to see Photoshop become much more responsive. I moved all fonts that start with the letter A from ~/Library/Fonts  to my Desktop and now Photoshop is faster than I've seen in a while. No spinning color wheel, yet.  Now I have to find out which ones of those A fonts are bad by replacing them one at a time.
Thanks for pointing me back to that article. I guess I just got upset.
    Sincerly,
    Harold Williams

  • Font preview -- Photoshop CC -- Windows 7

EDIT: I did select "Large" from the TYPE menu (thought it was in Preferences), but this or "None" or the options did not change things.
    Windows 7
On my Laptop, I can scroll through my font menu and see the text change.
Not so on my Desktop. There, I can click in the font name box and use the up and down arrows to do this.
Trying to find why the difference, I found this online:
    FROM:  https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/fonts.html#previewing_fonts
    Photoshop Help / Fonts
Updated for Photoshop CC Version 2014
    Previewing fonts
You can view samples of a font in the font family and font style menus in the Character panel and other areas in the application from where you can choose fonts.
To turn off the preview feature or change the point size of font names, do one of the following:
(CC, CS6) Choose Type > Font Preview Size, and choose an option.
The problem:  on my Desktop version of Photoshop CC, there is no Preference option as stated above.
I prefer seeing the menu scroll and to point and click, rather than having to use the up and down arrows to move through the font list sequentially.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you.

    Ah! Good question.
I had assumed I had the same version on each computer because I always keep both up-to-date.
Also, with the new CC, I no longer knew where to find the version number. Now I know :-)
    Here's what I have:
    DESKTOP:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 14.2.1 (14.2.1 20140207.r.570 2014/02/07:23:00:00) x64
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
    LAPTOP:
    Adobe Photoshop Version: 2014.1.0 20140730.r.148 2014/07/30:23:59:59  x64
    Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit
I am going to guess that is what makes the difference.
Even if so, I prefer being able to see the font menu list, rather than using the up/down arrows.
    Looking forward to your feedback/response.
    Thanks!
    Bob
