Font problem in Pages

Hello all,
I installed some new fonts (Trajan, Minion and Caflisch if you want to know), working great in for example textedit,
BUT in Pages when I change some text to these new fonts, the text is replaced with other letters !
The change is depending of the font (can change), and also the space between letters becomes fixed (small letters = too much space, big letters will overwrite themselves)
for example "hello" in standard fonts becomes "jgnnq" in Minion Pro.
I read several related posts, deleted iwork font cache in library, restarted everything, but still not working
Thanks !

Are these Mac TruType fonts, Type 1, or OpenType?
When you say that you installed them, other than placing them in your home/Library/Fonts folder, what did you do?
Reboot your Mac with the shift key depressed until you get to the login screen. This will have rebuilt your font cache. See if this fixes the issue.

  • Tibetan Font Problem in Pages for iPhone/iPad

There is a problem in typing Tibetan in Pages for iOS (iPhone, iPod, iPad). More specifically, when we are typing conjunction Tibetan letters, it will sometimes omit the root letter or the upper letter. For example, in the picture, the last second words should be སྐྱོན་ཤོར་བ། སྐྱོན་ཤོར་བ། but it became ྱོན་ཤོར་བ། སྐྱོན་ཤོར་བ།
When we copy/paste the letter from other sources such as online Tibetan writings/IM/email, it will have no problem.
Hope you will help solve the problem.Thank you.

  • Century gothic font problem with pages 09

I have a document using century gothic with Pages 09 on an Intel Mac with the most recent Snow Leopard upgrade.  It looks and prints fine. When I transfer this document to another computer with pages 09 the century gothic font is missing and pages asks if I want to replace with another font. What can I do? I need century gothic. This second computer is a G4 so it has the most recent version of Leopard. I need to use this G4 to print large quantities.
I have all of the fonts loaded onto this computer using the Leopard extras installer DVD. Century gothic is not one of the included fonts. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have Century Gothic on the Intel mac probably because of numerous Adobe products on the Intel Mac. If I load say Photoshop on the G4 mac then maybe Pages will recognize Century gothic once this font is loaded onto the G4. I converted the document to a PDF and then tried to print from the G4. It almost worked but the last line in the document get it's lower half chopped off. Any suggestion?

Just copy the font from one computer to the other.

I am running Snow Leopard. Transferring the same texts to TextEdit has no problems, so this is a Pages problem, I think.  Corruption of Times New Roman and Arial fonts, I suspect, but where? and what do I do about it? I just need to be pointed to a source of advice, I think.

  • Font problems after 10.6.2 upgrade

    Hello!
Just after upgrading to 10.6.2, al the iwork documents (Pages and Keynote) that use Time New Roman (originally Office documents) are unreadable due to a kerning problem that affects only this font (that I know of).
Did somebody had the same problem and have the fix? I already removed the duplicate fonts. Thanks.

I migrated several Word files over to Pages recently. The only warning I got was with Times New Roman in one file which was odd as all the files use the Times New Roman (TrueType font). Once the files were open I changed all the text to Pages Helvetica without any problems (I use Word (Office 2007) under Windows and Word (2004) for Mac OS for documents with bibliographies). My initial problem with Pages was due to Hoefler font which was resolved when I trashed it.

  • How do I enlarge the font on web pages

how do I enlarge the font on web pages so that it stays that way all the time

    Funny thing today Thomas,
Someone had a link to your site which you mentioned your first virus, the WDEF, and I chuckled as we both had the same experience all these years.
Anyway Thomas, I call it as I see it and like any IT professional, use the best tool for the job.
Did you know Steve Jobs used Linux on his renderfarm at Pixar?
So really what the problem is people's sensibilities, which they shouldn't be worried about because like IE, because of Safari being included on hardware, automatically is the first browser of choice and in no danger of losing market share on Apple hardware.
However if Safari isn't quite cutting the mustard for a particular person's needs, like this person's situation, they should be informed of a alternate solution.
Safari doesn't have nearly the amount of customization as Firefox nor the zillions of add-ons to solve just about any issue.
If people decide not to take my advice that's their choice, and they choose not too, but likely, just in this case, will come to realize the same problem I had with increasing Safari's text size and distortion of web pages.
Soon as Apple starts paying attention to their needs of their hard of seeing customers better, like myself and others, then I will most certainly recommend Safari over Firefox.

  • HT1338 Font Problems with Snow Leopard

I'm having font problems after updating to Snow Leopard.  It seems to have problems with spacing the fonts properly and reading some fonts properly in Page and Keynote.  Any suggestions of how to fix it?

    Dear Kurt,
in bigger companies thinks come slow :-)  Actually we are switching from 10.4.11 with Quark 6.52 and FontReserve to 10.6.8 with Adobe CS5 and FontBook.
And as you may guess we're running directly into the HelveticaNeue problem.
We cleaned up the system fonts so that only the absolutly needed are in /Sys/Lib/Fonts/ and all other fonts (from MacOS and our own) are in /Lib/Fonts/ where they are in folders for better handling.
The number of additional fonts were radically stripped down to the REALLY needed (about 70 fonts with their families).
We removed the protected fonts and replaced Helvetica, HelveticaNeue, Times, Symbol and ZapfDingbats with PS Type1 fonts.
Our goal was to have no font conflicts to keep our users save. In addition we put fonts in predefinded collections to switch them on/off with an AppleScript that picks the collection name.
And from here it went fancy: The Apple apps are working fine but external app like Adobe CS5 and MS Office only see the fonts in /Sys/Lib/Fonts/.
When we put the HelveticaNeue.dfont back (no matter if it's in the system or at ~/Lib/Fonts/) the other apps also get all installed fonts. We found out that this works even if the HelveticaNeue.dfont is deactivated.
Unfortunately this brings up two problems:
The HelveticaNeue.dfont can't be put to a font collection without taking the corresponding font from the Type1 font with it, so it's more difficult to handle with the AppleScript (we have to pick the exact single name).
The second is that if something goes wrong and all fonts are switched to active we have a font conflict and the possibility that the dfont is used in documents.
I think I have read all (ok, many :-) of your posts about the Helvetica problem in 10.6 as well as your really great document about font handling in OS X.
But I wasn't able to get it to work.
Do you have the one big hint for me???
    Thanks and best regards...      Udo

  • Font problem in email

I get the email version of the NY Times using Apple Mail.app. Several days ago the font used for the headlines seemed to get bolder (fatter letters) and also darker (the were dark blue, now midnight blue, although this could be an optical illusion because the font is so much heavier). The headlines are now difficult to scan or read quickly. I thought the NY Times had changed something, and was getting ready to write them, and I thought I'd send some screenshots of the new & old fonts. When I tried to find an example of the old font in some older, saved emails, I was surprised to see they were all fatter & darker than before. This is evidently a problem with my Mac and the NY Times has changed nothing. I've done nothing with fonts recently, but I'm sure these fonts are different now. Any ideas on where to start or how to fix this?

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems, make sure that the window is not maximized:
    *<b>View > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a high value can cause such issues.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
You can use an extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.

  • Font problem in Classic

I posted this over in the Classic forum...but it's rather dead over there and I fear it may not be seen for a while...so here's the problem...
I'm running Quark 4 in Classic and having trouble with fonts. Though the fonts are on my computer, and in the OS 9 fonts folder, they won't print correctly. If I use the same printer and print from Quark on my old iMac (running OS 9) the fonts print and look fine.
I read another thread in this forum that mentioned the fonts must be OS 9 fonts (and must not have been run through suitcase or a similar managing program???). So, on the off chance that my husband or I just took OS X fonts and copied into the OS 9 folder, I copied the OS 9 fonts from the iMac (I just grabbed everything in the Frutiger family, as it was one that I had an issue with) and then dumped them into the OS 9 fonts folder on my iBook. I restarted Classic mode in order to make the fonts available to the OS and then printed again. The font still prints all pixeled-looking.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Do I need to find the original font disc and install them from the disc?
Any help would be most appreciated!!!!!

    Hi Diane,
Glad that the tip helped to "solve" the font problem!
Not sure why you are printing the file info at the bottom of the page. It does sound as if it is a print setting somewhere though. Hopefully someone has a clue for you.
Again, thanks for the "solved" star and if I can think of something else for you to try I'll post back. Let us know if you figure it out.
    good luck,

    edit:
"In lieu of an answer...I tried changing the paper size to legal and it's not on the last copy I printed."
Ooops, I misread your reply, and see that by changing the paper size it corrected the issue.

  • IBooks Author TrueType font problem

I'm working on an iBook and I'm attempting to use a truetype font for a page heading, but when I preview it on my iPad, the font shows up correctly for a brief moment, then is replaced by something generic. I have confirmed in the Font Book application that the font is a .ttf, and it DOES show up in the font selector drop down menu on the formatting bar in iBooks Author. Why would the font show up correctly for a second or two and then disappear on the iPad?

It would appear that there's a bug in the preview mode. Maybe something to do with a cached version of the book? I fixed the problem by deleting the "proof" version on my iPad and re-sending it and now the truetype font shows up correctly.

  • Display Problems - Web Pages

    Hi
Forgive me - I am a 'PC' girl and am just learning about Macs - please bear with me!
I have just bought an iMac G4 256MB 800MHz with a 15 inch flat screen - running OS X 10.2.8 though I have Tiger to load onto it. Its just used in my business for Word Processing and internet access.
I am using Safari and am having trouble with some web sites page displays which work fine on my PC through IE. Images cover tabs I need to use etc. almost as if the page is too small for the content on it.
Can anyone advise me? Do I need to alter settings or something?
    Many thanks in advance.
    Nicky

That may be exactly what's happening. Safari (and everything in OS X) has "issues"
with font sizes. When you run into a 'problem' web page, try reducing the font size,
either with "COMMAND -" (minus sign) or with *View > Make Text Smaller*.
I don't know which Safari version you're running, but there may also be a preference
setting for "+Never use font sizes smaller than <size>+" if <size> is set too large,
you'll encounter 'problem pages' more frequently.

  • I need a visually impaired configuration that 1) standardizes all the fonts on a page to one size, so that ... (cont'd)

    2) they can all be maximized to the largest possible size, while 3) NOT forcing table columns larger than the screen width so that all the text in a column STAYS ON THE DAMNED SCREEN! Is there a way to do this (so far the add ons have come up lacking, and do NOT cover all three bases)...
There may be a CSS style sheet solution that I haven't seen.
An add on called "Readability" works sometimes but only with certain "articles," but they have an approach that can be considered useful for expanding on.
The Firefox FONT features are inadequate and give poor results in the real world.
The minimum font size MAX of 24 is too small, and changing it in about:config gives poor results as well. It is necessary to force all font sizes to be the same first, before applying these algorithms. How can this be done?

I've tried both of those. The problem is that they don't normalize all the fonts on the page first. The large header fonts push the columns too large, while the smaller fonts don't increase enough compared to the headers. This makes for either fonts that are too small where I want to actually read, or it pushes the text OFF THE SCREEN.
None of these add ons has tackled this obvious issues properly (on my Firefox 4 installation anyway).
That is except for the Readability plug in, which only works with certain pages, but it does a pretty good job on those. See the Readability add on and try it for a better understanding of what I need to use the web efficiently.
    Thanks.

  • Font Problems Galor

I first noticed this problem in Pages, only one font would work, I would change to Times New Roman and nothing would happen, it would stay with the same font. Unfortunately I don't know which font this is, but ...moving on. Then I noticed all my fonts on my 'Stickies' in dashboard had been changed from 'marker' to some generic font. Somehow i fixed this by deleting lucidagrans directly from system/library/fonts and then putting it back in. This fixed all my problems, except when i restart the computer the problem is back. To try and solve these problems I went into Font Book and started fooling around I noticed that there are lots of duplicates of Lucidagrans Bold and regular so i tried disabling some of the duplicate. Note: they are listed two or three times, along with all having dots beside them. Disabling them causes the spotlight search bar in font book to type in random characters. Now my drop down menus in all applications are all incomplete and half impossible to read. All i want to do is RESET my fonts the way they were when i first got this computer, i never installed any fonts i dont know where this problem came from!

For a list of fonts that are installed by OS X, see here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301332
You can dump everything in Home/Library/Fonts, as OS X installs nothing there. Also dump all copies of Lucida Grande.ttf, but do NOT remove Lucida Grande.dfont found in System/Library/Fonts.
Also clean your font caches with FontFinagler (use Google to find it).

  • Missing Fonts on a pages document

I just opened a Pages document that I have opened many times before and it said error occured - aril Mt and and another arial MT bold of some sort font is missing.
I have never goofed with any fonts errors since I went to Macs maybe 6 years ago. It says to add it to your folder or just ccancel or continue.
how do i add it? where do i get it from and what folder do I insert in into when i find these 2 fonts?
    Why did this happen?
    I am stumped.
This is on a powerbook 12". I have not been able to check my macbook pro yet.
    thank you.

I tried to summarize previous comments on this subject and ended up with this:
Pages can be very picky about fonts, even fonts you do not visibly use in a document. It is for example possible that a Style you do not use contains a font that is missing. It may also be part of a bullet list.
    * Use Applications > Font Book to make sure you really have all the fonts that Pages complain about. If you do not, get them.
    * If you think the missing fonts may come from MS Office you can go to Mactopia to download a test drive, which will install the fonts.
    * If you think the missing fonts come from Pages, reinstall Pages.
    * In Font Book, highlight the fonts Pages complains about, and go to File Validate, to make sure they are ok. Make sure there are no duplicates active.
    * In the Finder, highlight the files of the fonts that Pages complains about. Drag them from the Fonts folder to the desktop and then back again to the Fonts folder.
    * You can also try Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > Repair Permissions. (To be honest, I do not think I have ever heard of this actually fixing any problem, but it is theoretically possible.)
    * Some people have reported solving the problem by "cleaning" the document saving it to another format. Try for example saving your Pages 2.0 document as Pages 1.0 and then reopen it. Warning! You may loose formatting here, so keep the original as back up.
    * Restart.

  • Font problem when converting to pdf

I have been struggling with this for a long time! When I export to pdf for some reason the fonts become really mangled. I use several fonts but it is especially baskerville 12 that looks really bad. I have searched and searched but can't figure out why it comes out like that?
If anyone can be of help it will be much appreciated!

I have the same issue. From what I found online it originated sometime during this update (http://indesignsecrets.com/mac-os-x-10-6-7-update-causes-font-problems—but-proba bly-not-in-indesign.php)? I am running OSX Lion but it seems the issue was inherited...
My situation is using Pages with Baskerville font. It appears wonky in Adobe Reader but as expected in Preview.
Found a temporary fix at http://forums.adobe.com/message/4320355#4319047 . It would be nice for this to be included in an upcoming patch.
