Font problem with MX under Snow Leopard

Anybody know what might cause an app built with Director MX not to display an installed (not embedded) custom font under Snow Leopard?
The program was built quite some time ago but was tested under previous Mac OS X.x versions and worked fine. What might have changed that could cause this problem?
Complicating this is that I don't have Snow Leopard myself to test it directly, but here's what I do know:
The font is definitely installed and available to other apps.
Everything else about the app works fine.

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • Problems with AW in Snow Leopard

I am having multiple problems with AW, particularly graphics, under snow leopard.  Sometimes, while working on an existing file, the whole thing locks up forceing me to Force Quit the application thus losing whatever changes I had made.  Other times when I open a file to work on it, several features are so slow as to be unausable.  I am not really using the WP or Spreadsheet anymore as I have migrated most of those AW files to iWork so not sure if anything is happening in that regard.  Has anyone thought about the possibility of orphaning the two graphics parts of AW so they can be used independently?
    Sparkgapper

Since I DO NOT use pict or tiff as my mode of fileing, it is no problem whatsoever for ANY graphics program to open jpg, my preferred format.  Secondly, it is quite easy to open a pict file in AW then copy/paste it into just about any graphics format - this is my second method where necessary.
While AW Graphics has "aged" it retained the user friendly interface of all Apple programs of that era whereas now the steep learning curve is drastically restricting many "Entry Level" program to those who are required by their work to make that kind of effort.  Then add to that the "Evolution" of some programs whereby they all but forever archive older documents by their inability to use parts of the older formatting and formulas.
My graphics use capability is quite simple, usually working with images of ancient genealogical documents for transcription or old maps that have been scanned poorly, plus photos (jpeg) of these same objects.  As such, I do not need a "Full Blown" application but something more on the lines of AW Graphics and Paint - I used to transition between the two for certain types of manipulations.

  • External hard-disk not working with firewire under Snow Leopard

Hi. I have a LaCie d2 external hard-disk that has Firewire 800, 400 and usb2. I previously used it on my old (angle-poise) iMac connecting using the Firewire 400 socket. I've just a got a new mac with Snow Leopard and I thought it would we best to connect to the LaCie with Firewire 800. However when I do this, the disc mounts ok, but browsing in the Finder is really slow and copying files from the disk to the imac seems to work at a really slow rate (less than USB1 speed) if at all ! However, I switched to using the USB2 connection instead and it works like a dream. What gives ? Is Firewire in Snow Leopard buggy ??

There's no problem with the drive.
Maybe true, and the drive would probably work fine with Leopard. One thing that's obvious is that Apple did make changes in the way that FireWire works in Snow Leopard. Many drives and drive manufacturers work well with SL, but there have also been reports of firmware issues by Western Digital and other companies.
Have you checked with your vendor to see if they are offering a firmware update for your drive?
BTW, I got a new FW case a few months ago while at a Fry's electronic store. The brand new USB2 and FW400 cables worked fine. The FW800 cable did not, but another cable came to the rescue. Just saying...

  • Problems with re-installing Snow Leopard.

I'm trying to reset my macbook pro to factory settings, but when loading the Snow leopard CD the screen dims and a "Turn off your computer" message comes up, canceling the procedure. How do i fix this/reset my mac in another way?
(As a side note, the reason for my wanting to reset my mac to factory settings is the fact that I'm trying to install Windows through bootcamp, but when partitioning the disk I get informed that my disk is too fragmentated, and offers re-installing snow leopard as a suggestion of how to fix it.)

Clean the bottom of the disk carefully with a very soft cloth and perhaps a little rubbing alcohol, when dry stick it back into the computer.
What's going to happen next is ALL your data is going to be removed off the computer.
If there is data you wish to keep, cancel now and grab files and place them on a external drive and disconnect.
Hold c and reboot the computer, the second screen in under the Utilities menu is Disk Utility
On your left is your internal hard drive hardware name, select it and click Erase >Format HFS+ Journaled and Erase...
When that's done quit and install OS X. Reboot and go through the setup. Software update.
Once that's completed run Bootcamp and parittion your drive and follow the Bootcamp instructions here

  • Problems with FCP after Snow Leopard Installation

I'm editing canon 5d footage in FCP. I use MPEG Streamclip to properly convert the footage before importing to fcp. Everything was working absolutely fine until I installed snow leopard.  Now, all of the clips in the timeline have those weird lines as if I imported the footage without converting it.  I have a deadline and if I have to re-edit this entire project it's not going to be pretty.  I have installed all of the updates for FCP and Snow Leopard.  I tried a test by creating a new batch in MPEG streamclip and the footage is fine. It appears that I might have to re-edit everything.   Can someone PLEASE offer some assistance?  I can't afford to re-edit this project.
    Thank you

Yes... I am aware of the canon plug in for converting 5d/7d footage.  I either use that plug in or MPEG stream clip and they both have been working fine.   "Properly" meaning... FCP does not recognize H.264 (5d and 7d) therefor we need to convert the video using either MPEG stream clip or the free canon plug in.  The best codec to edit this footage is ProRes 422LT  ProRes422 - I only use the 5d and or 7d cameras for my projects and have been editing this way for some time without any problems what so ever.  The problems immediately arose after upgrading to Snow Leopard. The problem lies in my EXISTING FCP projects that are already in the works.  I am still able to convert footage for new projects without a problem.  I am using the latest updated versions of SL and FCP. I did the following to trouble shoot:
    1. Did a clean reinstall of FCP - STILL HAPPENING
    2. On an existing project I deleted a few of the problem clips.  Took the original and converted it again using MPEG Stream clip.  Renamed it and from the FCP project, I located the new clip.  SAME PROBLEM
    3. On an existing project, I deleted a few of the clips completely. Converted the original again using MPEG SC.  Imported the entire new clip in FCP, re-edited it and dragged it into the time line.  NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    4. Opened a new project in FCP.   Took some of the original problematic clips.  Converted them using MPEG SC. Dragged into the timeline.  NO PROBLEM, WORKS FINE
    5. Played both the original clips (before conversion) and the converted clips in Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    6.  Exported part of a problematic project to Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    7. Opened up one of the same projects from the same hard drive on my other mac (Mac Book Pro) and there are NO PROBLEMS.  THEY WORK FINE
Based on everything I've listed above, the problem seems to be happening in the Viewer  and Canvas on my I-Mac which I just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The exported projects are fine.  Am I to assume that I should continue working with these existing projects and everything will be fine?  I've spoke to 5 or 6 friends that are experienced and no one can come up with an answer.

  • Font Problem after Upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Has anyone else noticed this? I open a Keynote I had just done before upgrading to Snow Leopard, and the Bullets and font are all jumbled together, and don't play when I try to play the slideshow?

  • Problem with airport after snow leopard upgrade.

I know there are several threads about this already but none of the "answers" to those threads fix my problem. I just upgraded snow leopard and installed the new update. Since then I can connect to my wifi, but nothing will load. My airport says that I am connected and that I have a full signal, but whenever I open my internet browser (firefox, safari), nothing will load, it just stays on the screen that says "loading" at the top. I've tried deleting the "Automatic" airport option and creating my own but that has not worked. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?? Right now the only way i can access the internet is be plugging directly into the router.

    Hi swftrules,
It's probably worth trying just to ensure that the issue is (or isn't) location specific. Preferably to go somewhere that you've never connected before and has free WiFi without crazy encryption. An Apple Store is a great location to try.
If it does work at the new location, I'd be inclined to reset the router and set it back up (open network) and see if that works and then add encryption from there.
If it doesn't work at the new location, then I'd consider reloading the OS if you've already tried the new network location.

  • Can I run windows xp sp0 with parallel under snow leopard?

I am needing to run some windows applications on my Imac1,5 [intel, late 2006] since I cannot seem to connect via remote desktop. I am getting very mixed signals regarding whether I can run Windows XP Professional SP0 [which I own with my rickety old Dell PC] on either Bootcamp or Parallels; my OS is Snow Leopard.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks!

I can't speak for Parallels but with VMWare Fusion it worked fine. After it's installed I would recommend letting XP update itself, I think it's on Service pack 3 now.

  • Problems with macbook after snow leopard install

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my macbook. Saved and backed up everything from my old one and then loaded snow leopard onto the new one. Since loading snow leopard my optus wireless internet is refusing to work (Saying it has quit and wont reload), my photos in iphoto are showing up as thumbnails but not letting me see them or save them as jpegs and a lot of programs are quitting unexpectedly as i am working on them.
My biggest concerns are with my photos and internet.
Anyone know some solutions? I am a bit of an amateur with all this and don't know a lot of jargon. THanks

no, i think donv means what kind of machines new and old you have. look at the profiles of most users here - they describe in more or less detail what Macs they have and what CPUs etc. All this would be helpful for donv to advise you according to your need.
As for moving your data to the new machine, check this link http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2169737

  • Problem with upgrade to snow leopard

I upgraded to snow leopard from 10.4, and now my Imac will not let me login. "Your home folder, which is protected by FileVault, didn't open. It needs to be repaired." I've tried to restart with command + s  or simply holding c with the boot disk and nothing happens it keeps taking me to the login screen. Somebody please help me this is very frustrating...

    Have you tried this ? http://www.tuaw.com/2011/12/12/prevent-certain-accounts-from-unlocking-filevault -2/
Terminal is accessible from the install disk, in Tools, I believe. You can also try this to unlock your password:
Boot in Single User (Command-S), then at the prompt, type the following commands, hitting Enter after each one:
    mount -uw /
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    shutdown -h now
This should unlock your login screen. Additionally, you can downgrade to Tiger again (clean install required, so better partition your drive, then install on the free space), back up your personal data to an external drive, then wipe out your entire drive and reinstall from scratch.

dock appearance or desktop background appearance? I think you mean the latter. when you say you can't change it, what exactly happens when you try? did you try changing in in system preferences->desktop&screensaver->desktop?

  • Problem with tiger to snow leopard upgrade

    Hi,
I wanted to upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard and bought a retail 10.6 Snow Leopard install disc MC223Z/A. on the box. 2Z691-6428-A on the disc.
It would not let me install it unless I erased and partitioned the destination disc thus losing my settings and preferences like the old Archive and Install as it suggested in the article mentioned below..
I tried this after reading this article
    http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9137147/Upgrading_to_Apple_s_Snow_Leopard _OS_What_you_need_to_know.
I presume now that the article was written for upgrading from Leopard and not Tiger.
Perhaps I missed something when I tried.
    Any ideas from the experts.
    Regards from UK,
    Alan

  • Problems with MacBook after Snow Leopard Update

I have an older macbook that I recently updated to snow leopard and since the update my fan is always running and my computer is slower in general. At times my computer starts having huge lag and all apps quit responding. This is incredibly frustrating and if anyone could help me fix this I would greatly appreciate it.
P.S. Since updating videos on youtube.com also will not play without lagging but movies on any other site are okay, even youtube videos embedded on other sites.

You might also try deleting the dynamic loader shared cache. This sometimes can lead to apps bogging down and delays all around.
The easiest way to do this is a Safe Boot this will delete dyld cache among other things.
Follow the link for more info or hold down the Shift key at restart, keep it down and power back on. Keep Shift down all the way to the desktop. This starts your Mac, more slowly, and ask for log-in.
Then restart as normal, which will take noticeably longer as cache files get rebuilt. See if this helps.

  • Problems with iTunes on snow leopard.

I recently installed Snow Leopard and after having done so I downloaded iTunes and then installed it. I now have an icon on my desktop which is a small picture of a disk drive and says iTunes 10.1 underneath. However when I click on this to try to open iTunes it just opens a window which says install iTunes. I have installed it a number of times now and I still cannot open the programme. Any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like you're clicking on a disk image and that iTunes is already installed.
Look in your applications folder and launch iTunes from there.
If that works, you can trash the disk image on your desktop as its served it's function and iTunes has been installed.
