Font problems in Safari 5.1 (Lion)

I am seeing the type replaced with an "A" inside a box on multiple websites.
I've rebooted my system and still seeing the same error.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I got a bit anxious about the number of fonts activated on my system so I backed them up and then removed all user installed fonts and deleted my FontExplorerX 2.x and all files associated with it.
I was still having the problem and was unable to empty my trash because of a weird version of Helvetica Neue that was "still in use". I restarted, removed the version of Helvetica Neue and Safari now works fine.
Sorry... I wish I would have screenshot the file name of that version of Helvetica Neue.
I still have the a version of Helvetica Neue that comes with the OS installed and it's activated in Font Book.
This is definitely a bug and Apple will address it in future updates. My advice for those of you who want Safari to work now is to just clean out your fonts (back them up)...and start over.
Hope this helps!

  • Font Problems with Safari

I've been trying to fix this font problem I'm haveing. I go someplace like ebay and most of the fonts are fine but some fonts are not the ones I want. And when I go to the perfences nothing happens. Then I go to the font book and I can't find the font. I tryied to reset Safari and stills the same problem.

    Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.

  • Font problem in Safari

Some pages in Safari show up as gibberish. This started happening after I cleaned out my font library. I tried re-installing the system but I'm having the same problem. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

I had loaded way too many fonts and it was slowing my apps so I decided to delete the ones I rarely use. I don't know if I deleted a system font or I just have corrupted fonts. I re-installed my OS hoping it would fix it but it hasn't. I also checked my other computer, which is working fine, and copied the fonts and added the missing ones to my problem computer. I also tried cleaning my font cache with Font Finagler. I'm still having issues. I can e-mail you a screenshot of a problem page if that would help.
    Thanks.

As soon as I upgraded to Mountain Lion, I suddenly had issues with fonts where they became bunched up as well as not tracking properly.

That sounds like a keyboard problem and not a font.  Does that happen with all fonts and are all keys typing something other than what is printed on them?

  • Strange font problem in Safari, only in one account

    Hi,
Safari (3.2.1) renders small fonts on some pages incorrectly, but does so only on one user account. On nytimes.com, for example, the headlines are all fine, but the text is thin and hard to read.
I have cleared caches, deleted User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist, used Onyx to clear out various User caches, and checked to make sure I don't have Helvetica Fractions or Times Phonetic in my Font Book (these had mentioned as problems in various posts). In my own account, Firefox 3 renders those same texts correctly. So the problem seems to be isolated to Safari on one account. I would be grateful to hear if you can suggest a remedy.
    Best,
    Michel

    Hi Michel,
Might be a problem with a local font, or settings within Safari's preferences.
Within Safari, make sure your preference settings are correct.
In the Appearance panel, default encoding is "Western (ISO 1), Standard and Fixed Width Fonts - I set mine to Skia. I believe the default font is Times. Either works fine.
In the Advance panel, make sure the Style Sheet is set to "none".
Outside of Safari, open Font Book from your Applications Folder. Highlight All Fonts, then scan the list. If you see any blue dots, that indicates a duplicate in your Font collection. You can remove the duplicates as follows: single-click on the first font listed, then Command/A keys to select "all". Then, go to the edit menu and select "resolve duplicates".
Also, with everything still selected, in the File Menu, select "Validate Fonts". If errors appear, correct them by removing the corrupted font. Lastly, download a copy of Font Nuke. This will allow you to clean the Font cache.

  • Russian font problem in Safari/mac

    Hi all.
I have a problem concerning character encoding when I use Safari under Mac.
I am a developer. All the texts in my site are shown normally, only one text group, that comes from another SQL table, isn't encoded normally (Russian letters aren't shown).
Maybe the problem is in my SQL tables? But both of the tables (the one, the text of which isn't shown, and the one, that is shown normally) have character set UTF8.
I don't know where to look for the problem...
    I would appreciate any help!
    Lili

I am actually sure that the porblem text is in UTF 8, because this is the encoding used for the SQL table, and the text is taken from this table =>concequently it has UTF-8 encoding, right?
Not necessarily. Declaring something to be a certain encoding doesn't make it so. It is not uncommon to find data entered somewhere in the wrong encoding. On a web page, you can use View > Text Encoding to switch the encoding which a browser uses to read a text and thus perhaps find out if it is something other than what it is declared. If it is practical in your case you might try the alternative cyrillic encodings available in Safari on your problem text.

  • HT1338 problems with safari in lates lion version? is normal?

Problems to launch safari, can anyone help me?

    On your iPad ???
Tap Settings > Safari then tap to clear History, Cookies, and Deta.
    Then reset your iPad..
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.
If you are referring to Safari on your Mac, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
    Then empty the Safari cache.
Back to Safari > Preferences then select the Advanced tab.
Select:  Show Develop menu in menu bar
Now click Develop from the menu bar. From the drop down menu click Empty Caches.
Quit and relaunch Safari then try logging in to that website.

  • HT5275 Problems with safari on mountain lion

I have installed Mountain Lion yesterday. Safari was crashing as soon as I tried to open it. Now I have removed the file Extensions from the Library and everything seems to be fine.

From posts, it seems that this process 'SystemUIServer' is Associated with the Menu Extentions running.
Luckily it is a totally separate process, so I can see the rest of the menu associated with my current application to continue to run normally alhtough the extension menu freezes at times. Everytime when this process eats CPU, the extensions menu freezes.
I have tried to remove one-by-one the icons. The one which had most effect appeared to be the one associated with "Wifi Status" in Network preferences. Turning this off is really annoying as I can't easily switch wifi anymore ... but clearly it is a battery drainer for some reason ...
Other items also appeared to contribute in some minimal amount, but not as much as the wifi indicator.
    Hope this helps for users,
and hope Apple can somehow fix this one.
    Cheers,
    Jo.

  • Upgraded to Snow Leopard, font problems in Safari

When I open a few webpages, and the normal Times font displays like a distressed version, with extra splotches above certain letters, the "L" is elongated, "V" "S" & "N" all have accents over the lower-case letters. I check the preferences in Safari, and the default settings are in place -- default encoding Western ISO Latin 1.
I checked the same web pages on my other Mac that I upgraded at the same time (same disks, a Mac Family pack), and they display correctly.
Obviously some setting on my first Mac is different. Any suggestions about where to look first?
    Thanks,

Could just be corrupt font cache files.
Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and all user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

Shouldn't be having a problem, then. That's the version for ML. Try taking your question to the Safari forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/safari - that's where all the Safari experts hang out.

  • Script or font problems with google translate to/from Thai in Safari

I have a strange issue with the new google translate to Thai when I go to this page for instance:
    http://translate.google.com/translate_t?text=hellow,how+are+youtoday?&langpair=en%7Cth#en
that the thai script just comes out as a bunch of boxes, except for the punctuation. This works fine in Firefox, works with other alternate scripts (Korean, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Persian) and I can type Thai script into other google search areas with the Thai keyboard, so I have the Thai font in general installed.
It seems to be fixed if I change the Fixed Width Font in the Safari Appearance Preferences to anything but a fixed width font, e.g. Lucida Grande since non of the fixed width fonts seem able to handle Unicode for some reason. Why can Firefox understand this and put in Thai instead, but Safari can't?
Using Lucida Grande for the fixed width font is a fine interim solution, but it is not fixed width so other things will come out strangely spaced.

  • Font issue with Safari

I've read of others having font issues with Safari 5.1 and Lion, but I still have Snow Leopard and am having an issue with some fonts showing as a block of As. This occurred when I set up Suitcase Fusion 3, but I did not touch any system fonts. I was able to solve part of the issue with activating Arial in the font manager, but some areas still do not reveal font, most notably, areas marked for username/password on forms. Any ideas?  Btw, I do not seem to have a problem in Chrome or Firefox.

Thanks, Carolyn. I use a third party font manager but disabling it is not an answer for me. I put some fonts back into the user folder (never touched the fonts in the system library) and resolved SOME of the "A" issues, but not all. I have no problem in Chrome or Firefox. I've tried multiple solutions in the past couple days, including this fix for sandboxing conflict http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20087102-263/webkit-sandboxing-conflict-cau ses-safari-block-a-font-problem/ but then I got permission errors when I tried to change the file. I'm not even running Lion and I'm having this issue.

  • Problem with Safari and Flash

i've a macbook pro 15' top-2010  with osx 10.7 Lion & Adobe Flash Player 11.0.1.98 (beta) and i've this problem (with safari, firefox and chrome):

in the other sites (youtube, normal flash site,...) i haven't problem.
note that all the browser are update at the last stable version. i've also tried to install the last stable version of flash (10.3.183.5) but nothing.
in the console, when i'm in a facebook game, i see (repeated many times):
    - kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero

    what can I do?
    solutions?
    thanks

i done this, but the problem remains.
I have to wait for updates (for lion and for adobe flash)

  • Reinstalling Safari in Mountain Lion

I can't find how to reinstall Safari for Mountain Lion. The App Store is confusing as all get-out and I can't find any download link on the Safari page, just a bunch of blurbs telling me how great it is. Apparently the version I have has developed dementia and I would like to reinstall it. Can someone give me a clue about how to do this? Thanks. :-)

It's best to describe the problem, rather than your conclusion as to how it should be solved. Reinstalling is almost certainly not the solution.
