Font scrambled!

Hello!
I Have a little trouble with my MacBook: FireFox was taking too long to load a page and I could not force it to quit, so I restarted, then when I ran FireFox, text in the search and address box was scrambled (something like: √∑œ≈˜çµ≤Ωåß∂©ƒ∆˚¬…πø˝ÓÔÒ„´FÏÏ) At first I thought it was a problem with firefox, but also iTunes has the same trouble, in iTunes is worst because song names and titles are unreadable. The problem is isolated in that user account only, for what I think is easy to fix, but I just can`t think clear to solve it myself.. can anybody please HELP?!

Move the files in the Library/Fonts folder of your account's home folder and the contents of /Library/Caches/ which are used by your user account to a new folder on the desktop, and then check whether the font is still scrambled. You may need to log out and back in for this change to be recognized; your home folder is the folder in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.

  • Font Scrambling in PDF Conversions from Word 2004

Our Imago fonts periodically get scrambled into garbage when using the Adobe 7.0 Pro Distiller to convert documents. We purchased the Imago fonts specifically for use in our business and have used this for a number of years and the problem continues to happen. It appears that it is imbedded properly in the preferences menu. Has anyone had this happen or does anyone have any suggestions?

Hello, hereby a snapshot of the Word doc & the result as pdf as shown in Adobe Acrobat Pro XI. (In Acrobat reader it shows ok) . Depending on how I convert to pdf I get different results. Sometimes a completely coloured page, a blank page or with only the coloured line showing.
I don't know how to post a link (don't have a web address ..) but if you give me a mail-address I could send the Word document to you.

  • Fonts scrambled by Snow Leopard install

I installed Snow Leopard over 10.5.8 on my 17" MacBook Pro. Installation ran fine. But when using any application using text (TextEdit, iWork, Word) I found that the fonts are scrambled: e becomes %, w becomes space, etc.etc. I recovered the previous machine state from the backup I ran before the installation, re-installed 10.6 with same disastrous result. None of my Mac buddies has ever seen anything like this before - nor have I. Help would be much appreciated.

I found that the fonts are scrambled: e becomes %, w becomes space, etc.etc.
Are you talking about what happens when you use the keyboard? So what does "asdf" produce?
If you go to system prefs/language & text/input sources, do you only have the box for US checked?

  • Powerpoinnt to .ai, font scrambled characters issue

    Mac OS 10.8.4
    AI CS5 15.02
    Powerpoint 2008 12.3.6
The client designed boards in powerpoint to be output 9ft tall. Trying to convert to illustrator to get vector type and will have to go with what we can for images. Unfortunately everything I try give me type that looks like this (unicode problem I guess)
Have tried these methods to convert to .ai.
copy in powerpoint >> paste in Illustrator
    .ppt >> eps (postscript 2 & 3)
    .ppt >> print to .ps
    .ppt to .pdf >> .ai
ppt to .pdf >> open in acrobat >> reduce file size/saveas/ optimized >> .pdf >> .ai
the .pdf looks good in acrobat, once I open in illustrator characters are as per screenshot. They are using various weights of Calibri.
I can get the font outlined by
ppt to .pdf >> open in acrobat > save as .eps
but then can't make their type edits as they come in, unless I go back to powerpoint and start from square 1

The Word versions of Calibri (especially the Calibri (Themebody)) don't translate to the Mac version. Try changing the font in the PP to Arial and then importing into AI. You can then try reapplying the mac version of the Calibri font.

  • Xorg - Intel GMA945 - Can't get it to work

    Hi,
It's been quite some time now that i am trying to run my X server on my Macbook. The graphics processor is an Intel GMA945, I've tried all version of xf86-video-intel, with xorg.conf, without, with different settings and options in xorg.conf. Nothing works.
In most cases with the most recent version of xf86-video-intel (git or testing/), I just get a grey/back screen with my cursor, which eventually freezes after some time. The whole system is not frozen I can still SSH, but the whole display is stuck. CTRL-ALT-F[1-9] won't work, the only thing I can do is reboot. With the driver version in extra/ it works most of the time, if I specify to the driver in my xorg.conf to use XAA (instead of EXA or UXA which simply won't launch). But that leads to miscellaneous problems, such as font scrambling, and random freezes etc. And when it works, with xcompmgr launched there are some issues.
The funny thing is that I've been able to run the latest drivers with UXA, compositing, DRI2 and all (even played OpenGL games! \o/), but after a reboot it all went back to the old crap.
I love Arch, I love linux, I love open source, but I'm sick of it not working T__T. I am not blaming anyone, I could go ahead and but I can understand better why people don't use it (:
    Thanks for any help

I updated all graphics related packages to git versions. That is:
    intel-dri
    mesa
    libgl
    dri2proto
    glproto
    xf86-video-intel
The only I got my X to launch without freezing was to add:
      Option        "DRI" "false"
    To the Device section.
But this setup doesn't work properly. I get random freezes. I can still move the mouse and see the cursor moving on screen, but nothing else. Changing to a VT1 (CTRL ALT F1) or any other one, "un-freezes" the X server. And when I return to X I can see that things I typed had been taken into account. (For example while writing this message, it hanged, I continued typing some characters, and when I came back to X after doing the "un-freezing" thing, the things I typed were there).
Also my fonts and others things like images (suck as the website icon on the firefox tab) get scrambled too.
I tried without a xorg.conf, X launches but I can only see my cursor and a black screen. I can move the cursor but can't do anything else, like changing to another VT.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 Extended Web Capture Problem

There are three different ways to convert a web page to .pdf that I am aware of.  I have used the first for several years but it has stopped working.  The second now has corrupt fonts.  The third still works.  I have repaired Acrobat to no avail - does anyone have an idea of what might have happened?
    1.     When right click web page and convert to pdf:
An error has occurred in the script on this page
    Line:       11
    Char:      3
    Error:      Permission denied
    Code:     0
    URL:       res://C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX\AcroIEFavClient.dll/AcroIECapture.html
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?
    Yes         No
    2.     When right click and print to pdf converts OK but fonts scrambled
    3.     When select web capture from within Acrobat it works fine

Since there were no answers, I will take a stab at a reponse. For the 2nd method, I suspect you could simply select the print or press job options to get the desired results or turn off "use local fonts" in Acrobat. If you check the font list, the fonts are probably not embedded and that is likely the problem.
I noticed that you have both Reader and Acrobat installed and that might cause some conflict, but should not be the issue here. If you were to uninstall Reader, you would have to repair Acrobat. The conflict here is that you might have problems with the one opening when you want the other. If it works for you, then don't worry about it.
For technique 1, I suspect you may be using IE 9 that has apparently been a problem since it came out. I have refused to install it. However, it may simply be that PDF Maker does not work correctly with your browser, or got deactivated and needs to be allowed to run in your browser (IE I am assuming).

  • Scrambled font output in Final Cut Pro 5.0.4

    Hi all,
I'm using Final Cut Pro 5.0.4 in Mac OS 10.4.3 on a 2005 Dual 2.7 Ghz G5 with 1.5 Ghz of RAM.
When I use certain fonts (for example, Apple's Hoefler Text) in any of FCP 5's text filters, the text appears scrambled. Either the material appears in the wrong font (I think it's Apple's "LastResort" font) or it's the symbol/dingbat version of the font. The scrambled output obeys my commands about italic, bold etc. but it's still the wrong font. With other fonts, the correct font is not selected from within the font "family"; I'll choose "Roman" and get italic and then chose "italic" and get an artificially bent-over "false" italic that's obviously the italic font canted to one side.
I've tried fixing permissions, switching to different versions of the Apple fonts (from previous system install discs), deleting FCP's preferences, deleting FCP's multiple font caches. Nothing works. The same fonts look fine in TextEdit and other applications.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Reconnect the offline media and life should be good.
Still, the best solution is for everyone involved with the project to be using the same version of FCP/Color.

  • Safari font looks scrambled, Want a fix

The font on Safari (especially if is bold) looks scrambled. From Google if I search for example safari the font on the results page looks scrambled. I don't know how to post a screen shot on this page. If I knew it how, I would.
    MacOS 1.5.6.
    Bought my macbook last october.
It was working well till a week ago.
    Safari version 3.2.1

Have you added any new fonts? If so, then remove them.

  • Facing font/text scrambling issues in Indesign

I need to copy pages of text from word doc to Indesign file. When text is pasted in Indesign it gets all scrambled up.
I am using a foreign language .ttf font on windows 8. I tried changing the font, but same problem for all those language fonts.
    any solution for this?

Thanks All. The problem is sorted. I needed to enable the World Ready Paragraph Composer to set Indic preferences. Now i can very well use the devanagri fonts without distortion. The following link was really useful:

  • Scrambled fonts

    Hi guys,
I believe I had this problem before but  don't remember how I got it solved. Whenever I print a document from  Adobe Reader X it scrambles my text. All the letters get mixed-up or  substituted. I looked through the options but nothing jumped out.
Although, if I use Adobe Acrobat 9 all prints ok.

That's probably because the fonts aren't properly embedded in the document. Version 9 wasn't as picky about that.
You can look around the print menu for "print to image" and see if that helps.

  • Which **** font is scrambling in Entourage?

    Hi,
I was using an old version of Microsoft Office (2001) on MacOs X 10.3.9 and recently upgraded to version 2004. As a result, a lot of the Office fonts seem to have been double-installed: I have duplicates of things like Trebuchet, Verdana, Arial, etc. (all the default Windows fonts, it seems).
This morning, while trying to solve a different problem, I resolved the duplicates of all my fonts using FontBook. Now, when I open Entourage (part of Office 2004), the fonts in some bits of the interface are scrambled.
I've tried switching all of the Windows-style fonts I can think of back on in FontBook, and thinking to **** with the duplicates, but this has not solved the problem.
Do I have to plod through all of my disabled fonts one by one to find the one Entourage is trying to use, or can someone tell me which font(s) to enable to stop the Entourage interface screwing up? It's the interface, not the display fonts (playing with the display fonts in the Entourage preferences doesn't seem to help).
BTW this doesn't seem to happen with other OS apps, or even other Office apps. The strangest part is that the fonts in the Entourage splash screen are screwed, whereas the fonts in the other Office application splash screens aren't.
    Thanks for any help,
    Zoe

Don't just resolve the conflicts in Font Book, look in the various Fonts folders and remove any duplicate fonts. The locations are:
    /System/Library/Fonts/
    /Library/Fonts/
~/Library/Fonts/ (the Fonts folder in your home user folder)
There shouldn't be any in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder. But if there are, remove those first. You will need to use your administrative password to remove fonts from that folder. DO NOT remove everything from this folder. Some of the fonts in the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder are critical to OS X. If you empty that folder, OS X will not run and your Mac will not boot. Remove only those fonts that are duplicates of same name fonts in the other two Fonts folders.
Not sure what you mean by "Windows-style fonts". Mac versions of Office don't install PC TrueType fonts.
Once you have removed all duplicates from the Fonts folders, delete the Office font cache. It's in the Preferences folder of your user account in a sub folder named Microsoft. Remove the file "Office Font Cache (11)".
Launch Entourage and see if things are working correctly. If not remove Entourage from the hard drive and reinstall from the original CD. If that still doesn't help, then clean the system font caches with Font Finagler.
Edit: Yeah, and what Tom said.

  • Itunes screen fonts are scrambled!! help (see screenshot)

the ipod summary page has really screwed up fonts. It drops letters from certain page items and scrambles the ipod disk space summary at the bottom.
I have windows XP fonts set to normal size, native LCD res 1920X1200. Can anybody help me fix this?

      Windows XP

It could be the CS6 "text blending" shown below that's responsible. I think the default for CS6 is to have it enabled at 1.45. Perhaps CS4 is using gamma 2.2. If you disable the blending in CS6, 2.2 will be used.

  • Scrambled gui elements and screen fonts

i have just received the second MBP 15" matte screen that presents occasional corruption of the GUI when using applications in system preferences such as KeyBoard & Mouse settings
has anyone seen this? both units are refurbs, the second was to replace the first
i will try to change settings in and suddenly find buttons and fonts overlapping each other and not responding to the trackpad pointer
on the unit that i had to send back, the problem quickly escalated into an epidemic across all interface windows in various applications
after doing a clean install of the OS, the problem occurs before installing and applications, but apparently not until after i upgrade the OS to the new 10.5.3

    Hi Manas,
I am not clear about it. Do I need to download certain softweare..?
The thread u sent me shows some SAP Notes.
But I guess this is some different Problem.
    Can you please Expalin Properly.
    Regards,
    Deepak.

  • I am unable to type emails after updating. What I type does not resemble what I see. The mouse has a mind of it's own, and scrambles the words I type..

Firefox crashes a few times every night (it crashed instantly when I updated tonight!) That is not a huge problem, but this is. The last time I updated I had problems typing emails.
I begin to type an address or subject and the text is highlighted and scrambles instantly. I have never had this problem before. The browser tag seems to "flash" too...
I reboot the machine (using a mac laptop) which seems to help a little, but this is both infuriating and time consuming.

You can do a check for corrupted and duplicate fonts and other font issues:
*http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/multipleappsquit.html - Font Book 2.0 Help: Checking for damaged fonts
    *http://www.creativetechs.com/iq/garbled_fonts_troubleshooting_guide.html
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Open file in Quark 7 and Finder text is scrambled

After I opened a Quark 7.31 document with font problems the text in the menu bar of my iMac running 10.5.2 got corrupted, starting words with 'x' or deleting the first character "Thu" on the clock read "hu"
Apple menu also affected. Can an app mess up the Finder (system) or was this just a coincidence? Fortunately when I restarted the problem vanished but it is pretty scary to think that the whole system could get corrupted like this. Do I need to do anything?

It sounds as if a preference file (.plist) got corrupted. Normally when this happens we trash the errant file and the system creates a new one. In your case, the reboot did the same thing.
You may also have managed to corrupt memory and that would produce a similar result.
There is little that can be done when opening a bad document or other file, but usually the OS takes care of itself.
You may simply have scrambled the system font, somehow.
You probably could have simply relaunched Finder (Little apple logo top left ->Force Quit->Finder relaunch) and fixed it without a reboot.
If it happens again when opening a normal document, then it's a problem.
Leopard is a magnificent OS but it was written by humans and is certainly not puff-fect Yet, anyway.
Be sure to run DU after something like this to check your HD and also repair permissions.
