Font selection problem in Word 2008. not sure if it's an OS X or MS issue.
let me preface my situation by stating that i have searched for a solution to my problem on google and i have tried everything that has been suggested and nothing worked.
here is the problem:
a user at my office is using Word 2008. whenever he wants to change the font of the selected text by highlighting the text, then selecting a different font from the drop-down menu in the formatting pallet, and selecting a different font, the font changes to a different one than what was selected in the drop down menu.
this issue is replicated even in a new user profile on the same computer.
i have used FontNuke and FontFinagler to delete the font caches but that didn't work.
i have manually deleted the font caches and Word preferences.
i have repaired permissions.
i have tried to validate the fonts via font book and removed all duplicates. no corrupt or damaged fonts were found.
there is no previous version of Office on this computer.
help, please!

Well, normally I'd remind you that it's not just the system font caches and the Office prefs (plist) that need trashing, but also the Office font cache at ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/
Office 2008/Office Font Cache (12). However, you say that this happens in all accounts, not just for a specific user, so unless there's something extra weird going on that somehow is writing a mistake into that same Font Cache file for each user (not out of the realm of possibility), I think maybe your solution is to reinstall Office - not something I sink to doing, or recommending, often.
But if you're not having any problems w/fonts anyplace else... and I haven't heard of this problem yet, or experienced it (tho I minimize my 2008 Word-ing because I can't give up my macros...)

Word 2008 "not responding" in Lion
Since upgrading to OS X Lion (10.7.5), I am unable to open any documents in Word 2008. If I open Word directly, I get the blue Word 2008 logo-launch-thing, then nothing. If I double click a file that defaults to Word, the file opens but as soon as I try to click inside the document I get the rainbow wheel of death. Maybe I've been looking in the wrong places, but I can't seem to find any info on this specific problem. I've seen others who are able to open .docx but not .doc; I can't open either. I have tried a few "fixes" that seemed to have worked for other people:
Used Font Book to validate fonts and delete the duplicates/ones with errors followed by a restart...no effect.
Repaired permissions on my hard disk followed by a restart...no effect.
Used Microsoft Database Utility to verify my database...no errors.
Current on all OSX and Microsoft updates followed by a restart...no effect.
I have a MacBook that was purchased in 2008 (I think it came with Snow Leopard?) and I installed Office 2008 maybe a couple of weeks later. Everything worked perfectly until I upgraded to Lion last summer so that my new iPhone would sync properly (at least I think that was the reason...honestly can't remember at this point). Excel and Entourage both work fine, so the problem seems to be confined to Word. Are there any other ideas I can try? Or am I stuck purchasing Office 2011 (which seems to have it's own problems in Lion) or iLife?
Any advice would be much appreciated.I did hold the option key when I tried it...I just wasn't under my name. Stupid moment for me...makes sense now, but I didn't think of it at the time. It wasn't until I went the "Go to folder" route that I realized what I was doing wrong. Anyway...got to my Preferences folder finally, deleted com.microsoft.word.plist, com.microsoft.office.plist, and the font cache as suggested on another website. I now at least get the Word menu bar across the top which is an improvement, but still can't open any documents. I also found a suggestion to rename my normal template so that Word would make a new one when launched to see if a corrupt template is the problem. Tried it, but Word doesn't make a new Normal template when I start it...so that may be another symptom of my issue? I'm about to just make that test profile my new profile and give up on fixing this. Getting a little ridiculous :/ But I do appreciate the suggestions!

Not sure if this is a iCloud or Wi-fi issue. Why can't I put my new playlists onto my iPod Touch?

A month or so ago, I bought a new MacBook Pro for myself, an iMac for the wife, a 2TB TimeCapsule iCloud and Music Match. The whole 9 yards. Since then, I have't been able to put new playlists onto my iPod Touch. When I plug it in and switch to the "Music" tab for the iPod, I get " iTunes Match is On. Brian's Newest iPod can access music in iCloud. Songs can be downloaded and played via Wi-Fi or a cellular network."
Well, no I can't. The reason I know this is because yesterday, I was given two brand new music CDs, which I uploaded onto the MacBook Pro. Made a new "AC/DC" playlist and everthing. And now I can't get this playlist or any new playlist onto my Pod. Looking for "AC/DC" under the "Artist" tab or "Back in Black" on my iPod does't work either.
This is Gawd-Awful annoying. I don't WANT to play everything from Wi-Fi or cellular network. (Don't need/want an iPhone-that shouldn't count again me, should it?) The whole point of buying a 32 GB iPod was because I am usually not on a network of any type during most of my day. How do I get the stinkin' music onto it?
Maybe I am missing the point of both iCloud and Music Match. I thought the second allowed me to download better versions of all the songs I have on my computers. (Was that payment a one-time thing or will I have to pony up each year, btw?) And iCloud meant that I could listen to any and all of my songs on anything with an Apple Logo on it via wi-fi. But is that the only way?

BrianNope, though it did allow me to get some missing songs back onto my iPod. That's something. But neither "Back in Black" or "Dirty Deeds" show up anywhere on the Touch. Could this be because iTunes has no deal with AC/DC?
Quite frankly, at this point, I'd really rather not have the "ease of use" of iCloud attached to the iPod. It's not like I change my playlists that much. It would just be nice to get what I want onto my MP3 player. Not sure which one it was: iCloud, Music Match or the Air Port but the only real result of all the $ I plunked down is seeing all of my Wife's 231 Christmas songs popping up on my laptop. Really don't want them here. She SURE AS **** is sick of seeing all of my stuff on her computer.

My girlfriend's copy of Word has stopped launching - all other Office apps work OK. I've tried all the usual things - deleting prefs etc. I even used Time Machine to revert the folders to the time that everything worked - no luck. According to the log the reason is:

Any suggestions? Thanks, JanI suggest that you first run Disk Utility and perform a verify to make sure there's nothing wrong with the drive. If the error message is correct, this isn't a file that should/could have gone missing due to simple user error so you'll want to make certain this isn't a symptom of a wider problem. Assuming the drive passes the test (or can be fixed) probably the best course is to reinstall Office.

Probably Project Properties Problem....Not Sure

I'm new to Mac's, Final Cut and of course, Live Type. I'm putting a project together and I'm having a problem with Live Type and the only thing that I can think of is that my settings are not set correctly.
My project in FCE is set to be rendered in 1280x720 HD. My LiveType intro has a Picture background that I brought in. (let nme explain this....the still in the background is actually a Quicktime movie of a still rendered in FCE. So when I brought in my background it was through "Place BackGround Movie)
Ok, so the background is set in place. I did my text with a Spin & Fade effect. I saved it and brought it into FCE project. The Live Type movie played but it was very grainy. In the live type editor it was clear as a bell.
I than realized that maybe its my settings in Live Type. I used the default that was there. So I switched the Presets to DVCPROHD-720p30 figuring that this is why my LiveType clip did not come out clear. I rendered it and saved it and played in LiveType and the quality was superb. I placed this clip in my FCE project and again it plays very grainy picture. Can someone help me with this dilemma? I'm sure its somethig small that I'm missing.

I know one thing for sure. People complain about this with text all the time. The project looks great in Livetype then when they bring it to FCE the text gets all blurry and loses quality. The same thing may apply to your movie.
One thing you could try is this. Export your FCE project into a Quicktime movie and see if that helps. Usually when you do this all the quality comes back.

Problem with word Templates not working in the ICWebclient
Hello,
we run on crm5.0 and when i try to use the templates we connected to e.g. BP i get the error message "Unable to use chosen entry as Microsoft Word template" and the buttons stay inactive in the ICWeb.
In the ICWin those templates work fine. Is there some customizing missing?
I tried it with .dot, .doc and .txt files.

I tried debugging the FM but it is not stopping at the perform you mentioned.
Then I opted for CALL FUNCTION 'LDB_CALL_LDB_PROCESS' starting new task v_task_id.
If I don't use "starting new task v_task_id" it gives dump at the following part of 'LDB_CALL_LDB_PROCESS' , stating Result table incompatible.

Spry Validation Select problem. It's not "sticking"
Used Spry validation a few times, no big deal. Insert the widget, tweak, upload, done.
I'm trying to validate one single drop down menu. I go to Insert, Spry Validation Select, I get the little blue "tab" thing attached to the drop down, and we're all good.
I close the doc, open it back up and it's no longer there. You can click on the drop down menu, and no blue tab comes up for the spry.
This doc is on a template, in an un-editable area.
It seems to write the code to the page, you can find it if you look, but it's just not working.
I know this is a long shot, but has anyone had this issue with Spry?
I've been screwing around with this one doc for days trying to figure it out. I even went as far as pulling a backup copy that had never been "spry'd" before and starting over.

The link you posted is a page within a page (multiple Doctypes etc).
Are you using Server Side Includes to pull code into the page? If so, the Include cannot be a self-contained page. It must be a code fragment only so that when it's pulled into the page, the resultant code forms a complete, valid web page. -
I tried downloading AND RUNNING the upgrader and I'm stuck in an infinite loop. After running the upgrader from the utilities folder, it looks like things are working. Then a window pops up asking me to launch iphoto to complete the upgrade. After launching iphoto, iphoto goes back to the original error message that I need to download the upgrader.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the upgrader multiple times to no avail. I've also tried dragging my iphoto library from the external hard drive it is housed on to many different areas before trying to launch the upgrader, none of them worked. The external hard drive format is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I also tried dragging the iphoto library folder in the pictures file onto my new Macbook right next to my new iphoto library folder. This allowed me to open up iphoto (Yay!) but of course, none of the photos from my old iphoto library were in their, even when the old library was selected.
I've read what seems like hundreds of posts on this same issue, but can't seem to find a solution that works for me. I want to simply transfer my iphoto library from an external hard drive (my old macbook just crashed, so this is the only option) to my new macbook, keeping the albums, slideshows, and organization intact.
I would appreciate any help or feedback. Thank you in advance for reading this!Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Having problems with File IO, not sure what im doing or lack thereof.

Problems... Not sure if its hardware or software.
I have an iPod Classic 160gb, running the latest firmware (1.1.1) and iTunes 7.6.1. The HDD seems to be loud and from time to time, makes a audible clicking noise. Whenever I connect my iPod to either my home or work PCs and play music off of it, the CPU goes to 100%.
2 or 3 times now, iTunes has frozen, stopped playing music. I kill the task and safely remove the iPod. The iPod appears to have hung, so I reset it (Menu and middle buttons together). After it resets, it says there are 0 songs on the unit, however after plugging it back into the PC, Windows shows all the music is there. After re-opening iTunes, iTunes proceeds to delete all the music and wipe the unit clean.
This problem has happened with different firmware versions, including the latest. There is no pattern to any of the problems (100% CPU or hanging). Being in the IT industry, I know its a bad sign when an HDD is making loud clicking sounds.
I've spoken to Apple support and they weren't very helpful. When I suggested that I will send it in for repair/replace, they responded with "If the technician tests the unit and doesn't find a problem, it will be sent back no fault found". The HDD problem is so random that I doubt it will show up during testing.
Any ideas?

Find and follow turingtest2's post about checking ipod's hard drive for errors. Hopefully nothing is amiss with the HDD, if nothing's wrong, you could try restoring it, wiping the ipod clean then starting again. -
Display issue / possible video card problem but I'm not sure

It happens most often during space switching (via accessing spaces, and then clicking on a square I want to go to), as well as QuickLook activation, or video playing. Anyone want to help me sort this out so I can get back to normal with my Mac?

Having exact same problem on iMac 20" which has different display chip (ATI X1600), which outcloses the manufacturer. Now when I think of it the problem usually appeared during Spaces desktop switching but I think once or twice it happened inside a windowed game screen (suddenly one object like a character puffs into random polygons, then it spreads to normal desktop windows too.)
I am currently downgraded to Tiger form Leopard to test if this was a leopard issue (never had this problem in tiger in the past.)
Also RAM on my iMac is the default that Apple shipped it with (2x 800MHz non-ecc 512MB so-dimms.) -
Acrobat 9 Pro & Word 2008 doc with sections problem
I have recently switched from Windows to a MacBook Pro and am just now using Word 2008 & Acrobat 9 Pro for the Mac. I have an 11-page Word doc (created with Word XP before the change) that has several sections in it (to change page orientation). When I send that doc to the Acrobat PDF virtual printer, it creates several files corresponding to the sections in Word, but omits the first section completely. This never happened with Word XP and Acrobat 7.Is there something I missed in setting up Acrobat? Is this common with the Mac version of Acrobat?
Thanks. John.This is a long standing issue between Acrobat (Adobe/Apple/Microsoft). Both Microsoft and Adobe Blame on Apple. But the problem has been around since Mac OS 6 days and acrobat 2-3. Back then Mac didn't even you the Abobe PDF engine for visual and printing as in OSX. Adobe refuses to fix the problem because they are not as big a fish as Microsoft. Microsft if you don't fix a problem for them it means the death of your Company. Microsoft has included a work around in 2008 . That is go to Save as... and choose PDF.
It will save as one document, Unless there is a switch in Page orientation. Microsoft both on Bulletin Boards (Forums) and on website say that the code is identical for Mac and PC version except for VBA missing, key layouts and inteface changes. But MS refuses to allow Adobe a Look at their Page and section Break codes so they can cure it.
Try saving as PDF in Word 2008 make sure version ia 12.2.1. Next see if all pieces are there.
In Acrobat and choose insert pages then choose the next section. and add to end. go to end and repeat with next section, and repeat, with next section until all the pieces are together. I wish the problem was fixed it been going on since the day Acrobat came on the scene. And the aprties are so afraid and scecretive they won't work together to fix the problem. But that business these days everyone is out for themselves, and don't care who get affected in the process.
