Font size problems in Apple Mail (Snow Leopard)

Dear all
When I send messages in large font, e.g. size 18 or size 24, the recipient complains of the text being too small, e.g. size 8 or 9. This is happening on everyone who I send mail too... It's problematic for me because I then have to write emails using gigantic letters so that the recipient receives mail with an average size.
Does anyone know how this can be addressed?
Thank you
Kate

you're not alone. see a similar thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2590118
i just tried this and for now, it seems to work. i'm waiting for feedback from other Win PC & Mac users.
Change Message font to Lucinda Grande 12 (seems to be the only font that works to solve this problem)
Signature - change font to 10
Uncheck "Always match..."
if it works for you, please let us know.

  • Brickbats to Apple for Snow Leopard

I am very disappointed in Apple and Snow Leopard. I converted last year to using Macs after years of living with Windows and being on the Microsoft upgrade merry-go-round. Vista was crap. Microsoft charged the earth for upgrades and copy protection was a nuisance, even for legal users. I bought an iMac 24inch and Leopard and was absolutely delighted with the way it all just worked. Even the automatic updates were painless and simple products like QuickTime Pro and iWorks were flawless. Third party software was stable and so was Leopard.
Naturally, I thought that the new upgrade to Snow Leopard would follow the same pattern - Apple would have covered all bases with third party providers, giving them plenty of warning of changes etc, and the new OS would be quality plus and tested to work correctly with all Apple Software.
The upgrade went smoothly and in no time I was running Snow Leopard. Then it started.
    1. Mail started crashing. I could not send emails with attachments.
    2. Firefox crashes every so often, particularly when downloading updates.
    3. iMovie crashes all the time
    4. Several other photo editing programs (DXO Labs, GraphicConvertor,Gimp etc) either crash, will not run or do not run as intended.
    4. iWorks (Keynote) sometimes crashes.
    5. Quicktime Pro (which I paid for) has gone entirely. The new Quicktime X will not play my Canon 5d Mk II video files.
    6. I find out how to recover Quicktime Pro and find that it also no longer plays my Canon 5D Mk II video files.
    7. I now discover there is no easy reverse path to get back to where I was with Leopard. Time machine refuses to take me there. It appears I will have to wipe my disk and start again. This means long hours of creating manual backups, despite that I already have two automatic backup systems, followed by a long process of installing Leopard from scratch and updating it back to 10.5.8.
I still love Mac OS and iMacs, but I am very angry with Apple for selling a product which had not been fully tested by them let alone their third party developers. I sincerely hope this wasn't all done just so SL could get out the door before Windows 7!
    Regards

    G'day 'andromda',
As a long term user of OS X, and with a bit of experience with Snow Leopard, I can say that your experience is not the "norm" - although (unfortunately) it is not entirely unique. I know that it is little comfort to you - but Apple did test Snow Leopard quite comprehensively. For example, Quicktime Pro is meant to migrate itself automatically (and did for me).
If you wish to restore your entire system to where you were before, you should still use Time Machine if you follow these steps: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/15638.html
I am using iMovie 08 with no problems so far - can you post any steps to cause a crash? If it can be replicated, it can be fixed.
Firefox has issues, but these should be addressed in the next Firefox release.
    I don't use Keynote...
The mail problems are a challenge. I have tried to get it to crash with sending attachments, with no "luck" so far. Is there a specific process you use for getting it to crash?
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • Hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. Can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. How to fix this, please?

I had hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now it is looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. I can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. I think a big part of the problem is that someon one the internet (the hacker) was mirroring my hard drive. It seems to have locked up my system. I could be wrong about this guess, though. All I do know is that it is now looping on the last 4 iems, and I can't do anything.
Well, I can get it to turn on, but all it does is continously try to delete the last 4 items. When I try to reload Snow Leopard, it tells me my hard drive is full and that I need to delete items.
Can anyone help? I am so lost without my Mac. I am back on the PC, and though it works, I'm sure many of you will understand when I say it's just not a Mac.
    Thanks.

I installed Snow Leopard using my Apple external Superdrive. I followed directions I found on the Apple site. Here is the article info:  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
                     Article HT3910
                     located at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
Everything was going smoothly until I got to the reinstall part. I had to choose to reinstall on a hard drive or network drive. I've never used a network drive; just the hard drive. It seems that's where the troubles began. I selected the hard drive. It seemed to go well, and then I got the message that I needed to delete some files because I was out of space. I chose to get rid of my music files, but, there were only 636. I don't know what the rest of the files were. I was using the Secure Empty Trash command.
That was my first time doing an erase and install. I tried to do it again, but I now get a continuous error telling me that my hard drive is full and I must delete files. Only I can't delete files because 4 files are still being deleted and my computer won't let me stop the process.
I found out about the hackers mostly by the fact that whenever I used to watch something like Hulu or Netflix, I never had problems with internet connection or speed. Lately, I had internet connection problems. I went in to check my settings for my internet provider and found out the settings had been changed to public and all these extra computers were connected to my network.

  • The font size on my e-mail app is too small. Zooming in results in scrolling for miles

The font size  on my e-mail app is too small. I have already tried adjusting my font size preferences in the settings. It has no effect. The text seems zoomed out. When I zoom in manually, the text extends for miles to the right beyond the window size and I have to keep scrolling over to read. This is very annoying. It used to resize and readjust the text to fit within the screen. Is there a glitch in the app itself or have I somehow reset something which is causing this to happen? Is anyone else having this problem?

Could you have the Zoom feature turned on?  Go to Settings>General>Accessibility and check/correct.

  • IMAP, Gmail and Apple Mail in Leopard

Has anyone got Gmail IMAP to work properly in Apple Mail in Leopard?
Although IMAP is still being rolled out, it's arrived on my 'spare' Gmail account so I tried it out in Mail on Leopard - with very mixed results.
I followed the official Gmail instructions here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77663&topic=12761
    then looked here: http://5thirtyone.com/archives/862
    for some additional help.
It does sort of work, but Messages don't usually appear in the InBox and setting Gmail folders to be for sent mail, deleted etc as per the second link doesn't seem to work that well.
Anyone had a good experience with this? Got any tips?
    Thanks

I am using it. It is working pretty well. You do have to set up your account manually. Note the following recommendations from Google:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892
I have a post detailing my setup here:
    http://pt.withy.org/ptalk/archives/2007/11/gmailimap_on_myiphone.html
The one problem I am having with Leopard Mail is that despite setting my account to not move deleted messages to the trash, and having Show Deleted Messages enabled per:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/3.0/en/9911.html
When I delete a message it disappears from my InBox immediately, and there is no Undo Delete Message action available (as there used to be in Tiger Mail). The message is still available in my All Mail folder under [GMail], but I sorely miss the ability to quickly un-delete a mail message... Hope this will be fixed in 10.5.1!

  • In mail Snow leopard, the trash button was red, the unwanted mail orange, the type button is gone, help?

In mail Snow Leopard, the trash button was red, the unwanted mail orange, there was a type button.  Now the type button is gone, the rest is grey, why?

I mean in OS X Lion of course. Same with Finder window: There used to be a 'Today' option, where has that gone? It was so easy to have an overview of the work you were busy with. Does anybody has a tip?

  • Why am i having problems since changing from snow leopard loading maverick

why am i having problems since changing from snow leopard downloading maverick

Yes you solved your own question, use printer handles color, whcih shodul have been the default. If you do want to experiment with Photohsop manages color, try the CMYK profiles, and send a cmyk file. Only exception is if you print to one of the few RGB printers like a lambda.

  • Is anyone having problems with apple mail since upgrading to Yosemite?

MacBook Pro 15", mid 2012 running Yosemite 10.10.1 - ever since upgrading to Yosemite, I have a problem with Apple Mail which is that the from address persists on my screen after I close the email.  I have to quit mail and sometimes even restart to get rid of it.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Any ideas?

No, I mean it lingers when I close the email. What I've discovered since I posted earlier is that if I reopen the email and hover over the address  in the actual email the one that is persisting goes away.  Thank goodness, because it is very annoying. I am wondering if it is somehow intentional in the SW. Thank you for asking.

  • Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP

Is there a problem with Apple Mail using IMAP?  Having a problem syncing to our mail server: doesn't sync properly when multiple devices use same mail acct.  Spoken w/ mail hosting provider who says Apple Mail doesn't follow IMAP protocol properly leaving Apple Mail users to experience a variety of problems when connecting to IMAP accounts.  Among them:
    - Improper syncing
    - Proliferation of drafts during composition of an email.
    - Connections on the mail host do not close automatically and proliferate over time until the host rejects further connection requests.
Hosting provider goes on to suggest turning off IDLE command.  In my experience turning this feature off did not improve the situation.  In fact, it created a few.
Question: Is the hosting provider correct in faulting Apple Mail?
Been fielding the question with a number of people.  I'm aware of three people who are experiencing similar problems, each using different mail hosts.  Tech reps at inmotionhosting.com and nexcess.com point the finger at a Apple Mail, along with an IT specialist in Los Angeles, CA, and a tech support rep at an Apple Store in Arizona who said that Apple and Google mail are aware of and coordinating to resolve the problem.
Anyone out there have any insights into this?

  • Problem with Apple Mail since OSX Mavericks

    Hello Folks,
since i've updated my mid-2012 iMac to OSX Mavericks, i have a problem with Apple Mail: When i start the Apple Mail, the program says that it could not connect to the icloud mail server, and that i should enter my icloud passwort. When i do this, everything works fine. But that annoys me, because it worked without any problem under OSX Mountain Lion.
Has anyone an idea what i can do to fix this?
    Regards,
    Alex

In the iCloud pane of System Preferences, uncheck the box marked Mail and check it again.

  • Synchronisation problems between apple mail client on a MacBook Pro and Gmail

I am having synchronisation problems between apple mail client and gmail on the MacBook Pro, but no similar problems on the ipad and iphone. My mail is not being collected by the aplle mail client on the laptop, and now all my inbox for my gmail account has disappeared, although the Archive and sub folders under "Google" are still showing.
    This is an intermittent problem.
I have previousy re-built the mailbox and solved the problem, but there must be something more fundamental going on, as the problem has occurred again.
    Anyone have any tips?

Sorry, but no. POP3 versus IMAP has nothing to do with keeping spam off your computer. Your ISP should be doing its filtering before the mail reached the mail server in either case, and your Mac would be doing its filtering after downloading the mail from the mail server in either case. (Your iPad does no filtering at all.)

  • Font problem with MX under Snow Leopard

Anybody know what might cause an app built with Director MX not to display an installed (not embedded) custom font under Snow Leopard?
The program was built quite some time ago but was tested under previous Mac OS X.x versions and worked fine. What might have changed that could cause this problem?
Complicating this is that I don't have Snow Leopard myself to test it directly, but here's what I do know:
The font is definitely installed and available to other apps.
Everything else about the app works fine.

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • Mail and address book problems after updating to snow leopard

Hello, I recently installed snow leopard on a an imac running os10.2. The installation process stalled and I called Apple and spoke to someone who had me shut down the machine and start again. The second attempt worked but when I first opened Mail there were no messages all mailboxes were empty and I was unable to send messages. I tried "rebuild" and nothing happened at first but on a later restart the messages finally showed up and the program worked normally. OK. But now I find that of my hundreds of contacts in "Address Book" only a few of them remain. "Address Book" doesn't have a rebuild command. "Help" says to look for the particular folder from the old system and copy it to the new but I can only locate that folder in the new system. None of the old system is there, and why should it be? I wouldn't want the old system software taking up all that space when it isn't needed.
Does anyone know how I might recover those contacts?
thank you for your kind attention,
    Julian

    Hi,
I'm sorry that number was from memory. I checked the disk that came with the computer and I find that it was version 10.4.1
    Thanks for your interest.
