Font style not available on select machines (Captivate 5)

Cap community,
For most of our projects, I selected Lucida Sans as the default font for most caption types. Internally we would hand a single project file off between 2-3 different people and didn't have any issue until recently my boss does not have the Lucida Sans Regular font style while at least three others of us do.
Below and left is a screenshot from my machine that shows the Regular font style. Below and right is a screenshot from my boss showing the missing Regular font style.
The obvious thing to check is that she does in fact have the same font family and not just the Italic, Demibold Italic, and Demibold families. However, we both have the same font on our Windows > Fonts folder. Here is a screenshot of that font from the Windows font viewer. The font name is Lucida Sans Regular (TrueType) and the filename is LSANS.TTF (oddly enough, the font viewer describes it as OpenType even though the name in Windows Explorer reads TrueType... but this is the same for both our machines so it doesn't appear to be a different variable).
We even carefully uninstalled her Lucida Sans font family and copy/pasted my font file to her machine to ensure we had the same one, and still no joy. Has anyone run across this issue? Seems like it could be either a font issue or Captivate, but leaning toward Captivate since we feel relatively sure that we have the same font.
BTW, as a result of this difference when she opens the .cpx project file I'm working on it replaces all the Regular font styles with her Demibold or Demibold Italic, which throws everything off if she wants to publish to swf or Word doc.
Best,
Danny

Hi Danny
Two things:
First, please submit this as a bug to Adobe using the Wish Form/Bug Reporting Form (link is in my sig)
I say this because Adobe needs to be aware of this issue. And it relates directly to my second thing below.
Secondly, I've seen others report missing fonts and such that were present in Captivate 4 but not in Captivate 5. To date, I don't recall seeing anyone from adobe answer any of these threads with a reason or a solution. So I'm hopeful that by all affected reporting this as a bug, someone will finally hear back from Adobe on the issue. If that happens, I'm also hopeful that one of these threads will be updated to advise why this is happening.
Cheers... Rick

  • Why are some font styles not available in the Typewriter function?

I would like to use Arial Narrow Bold, however it is not listed. I do have this font style in C:\Window\Fonts but it does not show up when I use they typewriter function. I am able to use this font style in Adobe when in the forms field. Is there a way to update the fonts available for the Typewriter?
    Thanks for any advice!

I don't have a good answer other than the typewriter functionality was for basic typing, not for fancy topography work. For the latter, you should go back to the original document and do it with a tool designed for that purpose.

  • Some Font styles not available on solaris

    Hi,
I am developing a Java application on windows with the plan of running it on solaris eventually. It is starting without error on windows but, when I ftp it to solaris and start the program from an xterm I get the following error which is repeated a number of times:
'Font specified in font.properties not found [-urw-itc zapfdingbats-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-sun-fontspecific]'
The application runs fine but I am wondering how I can fix the error appearing in the xterm. I know there is a setFont function that I can set the Font to something like 'Dialog' that is common to both operating systemsbut I have tried this and the same message appears. I cannot setFont for the line 'JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this, STRING, "Invalid entry", JOptionPane.OK_OPTION);' so this doesn't seem to be working, the error still appears. Can you offer any help? if not then can anyone suggest who or where I might try to get help from?
    Thanks
    Conor

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message that corresponds to a failed backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showning, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Some personal information, such as the names of your files, may be included — anonymize before posting.

  • Suddenly...some fonts are not available.

InDesign CC 2014 Crashed today. When I relaunched it I found that some of my fonts are not available. I'm on a Mac Pro running Yosemite (10.10)
For example, two weights of Proxima Nova are available (Light and Regular) but the other weights are not. Those other various font weights are available in other apps (namely Illustrator).
    Below are various screenshots
    1. Screenshot from InDesign
    2. Screenshot from Font Book to show the fonts are active
    3. Screenshot from Illustrator CC 2014 showing these fonts are available there.

I quite InDesign. Then I did a search and trashed all the AdobeFntXX.lst files that had a two digit number. I deleted the files and rebooted my computer. I then launched InDesign and had the same problem.
So, I quite InDesign again and deleted my Indesign Prefs and Saved Data file and relaunched. Same problem.
Very strange... since everything is okay in Illustrator, Photoshop and even an older version of InDesign CS6.

  • My font is not available in Illustrator...

I am attempting to use a font that is available to me in Indesign CS5 and is installed on my computer (a PC), however the font is not available in Illustrator CS5. I have attempted installing the font in the Adobe Common File, but that did not help. I don't understand why a font would be available on my computer in general, but not in Illustrator. Any thoughts?

May be Illustrator doesn't like it. Yes, I'm not kidding, Illustrator is programmed to be quite picky accepting fonts in its menu - the fonts must be top quality.
Another thing is to make sure the font is in the Fonts folder in your system and not in some place available to inDesign only like a program's fonts location or if you are using a font manager.

  • Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine

Have been trying to use the BI Publisher Add-in in Word 2010 on Windows 7 64 bit. The problem is that BI Publisher appears as an Add-in but when I try to log in a lot of error message appers " Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine". The next error is ' The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro settings'.
I have followed others on this forum with a similar issue and it appears that there may not be a solution. My macro settings are set to allow all. I tried removing and renaming the EXD files and still doesnt work.
On the same machine I have installed add-ons of Publisher 11g, this could be a problem???
    Help meeeee.

    Hi
I would check out other posting - Getting BI Publisher to work after down grade from Word 2010 to Word 2007
The problem is cached EXD files.
    1. Close Word
    2. Do a search on C drive *.EXD (include hidden files)
    3. Rename them to .BAK
    4. Go back into word and you should be able to Load Data
Removing/renaming the EXD files in the following folders resolved the issue for me.
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Microsoft\Forms
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp\Excel8.0
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp\VBE
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp\Word8.0

  • CrashReporter complains that "LastResort" font is not available

I have a brand new Mac Pro which I've been installing applications on. Recently I had an issue with Thunderbird crashing, the logs had a bunch of these entries (below) which indicates a system font is not available.
I've not removed anything myself. I'm concerned about this - how can I fix it?
    Thanks.

Download and manually install the 10.6.5 COMBO update. If that doesn't fix it, reinstall the OS, which only replaces all the OS components and basic Apple apps, leaving everything else in place. If that fixes it, run Software Update, get back to 10.6.5, repair permissions, and restart.

  • One or more Fonts are not available

I have seen this problem on this and other forums in the past
but I have never seen a response that made sense or lead to a fix:
I created a flash file a few months ago. It uses a font called
"microgramma". I now want to make some changes to it and I get this
    message:
"One or more fonts used by this movie are not available."
    etc...
The font is a truType font, works fine in every other
application on my machine, but now for some reason, Flash doesn't
see it. This is not the first time this has happened to me. It
would be great if Adobe would address this.
Flash CS3 on a MAC ppc with OSX 10.4.11

You should be able to get this to work. (btw - mac guy :) Is
the Font listed in the Flash 'Library' panel, or are you refering
to the main Font menu, and embedding? I'm uncertain, and perhaps
    I'm mistaken.
You can create a Font 'file' the resides in the FLA Library.
Have you tried using the small icon in the upper right corner of
the 'Library' panel, and selecting 'new Font...'? this should
    create a complete Font package?

  • Urgent: Custom font style not appearing in PDF output only

    Hi,
For a customer, I received customer specific font styles(ttf font files) which I installed on my machine and then copied those files in Oracle\BI Publisher\BI Publisher Desktop\Template Builder for Word\fonts as well as in JRE/lib/fonts. Then I created a template in word and font there appears as custom font.
Now I am getting that font style in all output formats(rtf, ppt, excel) except the PDF output. I am using Oracle BI Publisher desktop alone. Not sure what I missed because of which text font is not changing in PDF version only. I checked the PDF properties and there also custom font is not getting mapped.
    Thanks in advance.

Here is the link that describes how to set up the font mapping for PDF output: Look for "Font Mappings (for PDF output)"

  • Fonts shown as installed by Font Book not available to applications

I have several fonts that Font Book shows as installed that are not available to any of my applications, including Word and Quark Express. These fonts include Arial Bold, Arial Bold Italic, and Arial Italic, all of which I believe were installed as part of OS 10.4, along with several other fonts in the Arial family that are available to my applications. How can I get all my installed fonts to be available to my applications?
    John Link

    HI John,
Try deleting the FontBook pref file: com.apple.fontbook.plist
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag the .plist file from your Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. Launch Word or QE and see if those fonts are available now.
    Validating fonts
If fonts are not displayed as expected when you open documents or you cannot open documents, it's possible fonts have been corrupted. You can validate fonts to confirm they are still safe to use, and remove any corrupted fonts you find.
Take care not to remove system fonts, located in /System/Library/Fonts; removing system fonts could cause some applications to quit unexpectedly.
    To validate fonts:
Open Font Book and select one or more installed fonts to check.
    Choose File > Validate Font.
In the Font Validation window, review the fonts listed for warnings or errors. Use the pop-up menu to display warnings and errors separately, if necessary.
For fonts with warnings or errors, click the disclosure triangle next to the font to see which validation rules show errors.
To remove a corrupted font, click the checkbox next to the font. Make sure fonts you want to keep are not checked. Then click the Remove Checked button.
You can also use the Console utility to troubleshoot problems with installed fonts. In the console.log window, type "font" or a font name (such as "Arial") in the Filter field to find font-related log messages.
You can validate font files before installing the fonts. To do so, in Font Book choose File > Validate Files. Browse to and select a font file to validate and click Open. Font Book displays the Font Validation window and indicates whether it found problems with the font.

  • Some Fonts in Windows Font folder not available in PSE8.

I have discovered that there are a bunch of fonts in my Windows Font folder that just aren't showing up in PSE 8.  They seem to be a lot of the Open Type fonts (the ones with the "O" on the thumnail) although there are some of the Open Types available.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on.  These are not Fonts that I have downloaded.  For instance, Arial is there but all the other versions of it in it's "Family" donh't show up in PSE.
    I'm using Windows XP.
    Brenda

Are you saying that there are more fonts than are available in the style menu to the right of the font family pulldown menu? If so, how many fonts do you have installed on your computer?

  • Fonts are not available

There are at least 10 people on this forum asking the same
question, with hardly any helpful responses.
I am missing Trade Gothic among others. It is not available
in the Flash font drop-down. It's there in Illustrator, PS,
    etc...It's an Opentype font.
The frustrating thing is my boss uses has it installed on his
computer (same file) and it works on his computer (same set-up,
    Linotype Font-Explorer etc..).
Seriously, what is wrong with Flash? I've uninstalled,
reinstalled, restarted, repaired disk permissions etc...
    So annoying!!!!!!!

install those fonts on your PC.

  • Why am I told that fonts are not available when the file was originally created in Fireworks?

I get the "Fonts not available" message when I open up a document, i.e. open up a png document in the program/computer/etc. where the program was created in the first place.
I don't get this. How can the fonts not be available when I'm using the same program that used these fonts originally? Having said that, the appearance doesn't seem to change.

Are the fonts in question installed on your computer?
Fonts are not part of a program, fonts are installed on a system. Once installed, a font is available to any program that uses fonts. If you're opening a document that was made in the same program, but on a different system, using fonts you do not have installed, then you will get that message.
So... Are you opening a document that you created? Are you opening the document on the same system on which the document was created? Have you made any changes to the installed fonts (installed or uninstalled any fonts)?
What version of Fireworks are you using and what OS are you running it on?
