Font styles apply to whole document

when I select a line of text and click bold (for example) the entire document becomes bold and loses its previous formatting. Clicking 'undo' resolves the problem but it's maddeningly annoying. The same thing happens if I select larger or smaller amounts of text and if I choose to re-size the font, colour it or so on - the problem occurs with all types of formatting.
I've been using MS word on OSx for years without this problem, so I'm thinking it might be a setting that I've altered by accident.
any suggestions most gratefully received
thanks

  • How do I replace font colors across the whole document?

    So I know how to change a certain font across the whole document.
    I can replace let's say, Times New Roman with Arial throughout the whole document.
    However, what if I want to replace a font color?
    For example, I want to change the black 0,0,0,0 with black 40,30,30,100 across the whole document, instead of searching one by one and replacing the existing color.
    I'm using CS5 on PC

    As Peter says, it is better to do with paragraph styles. The above shows where.
    In general, you should be using p. styles with little or not local formatting (depends on use). And for local formatting that is repetitive, character styles should be used.
    Take care, Mike

  • Is there a way to apply all the font styles before importing the file

    Hi,
    I've some text as below in a text file that needs to be imported into InDesign.
    "Law of Civil Procedures"
    And in InDesign this is to be made bold. I want to know if there is a way to make it bold directly and then import it into InDesign, I'm asking this as I have approximately 200 pages that needed with all the font styles applied. This would be very helpful if i can first apply the font styles and then import it into InDesign.

    Hi Salah,
    Thanks for your Answer. I'm completely new to indesign, i'm basically an XSLT Developer. My question in brief is as below.
    We have to make books in InDesign, and the content we receive would be in XML Format and also an RTF file is given with same content, what we do currently is copy and paste the text in InDesign document and start formatting te content accordingly. But we are having huge volumes like more than 6000 pages and similarly we are having 8-12 vilumes, i want to know if we can get the styles directly in InDesign and start working on  them.
    For eg: we have the below content
    <para style="left"><num style="bold">1(1)</num>   <b>[Short title and commencement]</b></para>
    Here there should be a para created and the number should be bold. I'm really unable to understand how to do it. please help me with this. And also our vendors need the IDML file along with the PDF. please let me know how i can do this.
    Also please suggest me some good tutorials regarding this.
    Thanks.

  • How to remove named font style but keep paragraph style

    I receive documents in which some paragraphs begin with words that have named font styles applied, such as "Emphasis (Important)". This prevents my code from reading the paragraph style. When I use the "Clear Formatting" function (Home>Font>icon
    that shows Aa and an eraser), it removes the font style and the paragraph style. Is there a way to remove only the font style, or a way to read the paragraph style while ignoring the font style?

    Do you mean fixed-width? If so try
    final Font mYFont = new Font("Monospaced", Font.BOLD, 7);

  • Default Font.  Or appling a font style to entire presentation

    New user I have used powerpoint for years. Once my project is done I would like to change the font style in the entire document. There has to be a simpler way than going slide by slide.

    Hi pscutie,
    An option is to make your Font changes in the Master Slides. You can "show" Master Slides in the View menu and you can access them to the left of Keynote window. Whatever changes you make on a Master Slide changes all slides in your presentation of that slide type accordingly. You can change the font, background, add an image, etc. All changes will then be done to your presentation automatically. You can also create your own Master Slide template theme and save it for future use. Hope this helps.

  • How do I change font in the whole document at the same time?

    How do I change font in the whole document at the same time?

    Menu > View > Show Styles Drawer
    Menu > Help > Pages User Guide
    Download and read page 27 on creating and using Styles, which is done largely by example ie you make the text what you want then save it as a Style to be applied wherever you want in the document from the Styles Drawer.

  • Applying tabs to whole document

    I copied sme text from a web page & was re-aligning it. There were about 10 tabs in the layout (blue triangles on the ruler at the top). I can delete them by dragging the off (puff of smoke - nice touch!) or via text inspector, but it only seems to disappear for that line. How can I make it apply to the whole document?
    Thanks

    Highlight the whole document before you do it.
    Or...
    Change the style that applies to the changed paragraph, and then reapply that one to the whole document in the Styles drawer.

  • Script for Word 2008 to set the font for whole document.

    I just moved to Office 2008 form 2004 and am shocked to see my Macros do not work! So need to solve it with Aplescript. I spend an hour to find a way of changing the font in a whole document, to no avail.
    To select all the text is easy:
    tell application "System Events"
    tell application "Microsoft Word" to activate
    tell process "Microsoft Word" to keystroke "a" using command down
    end tell
    But how to get it to do the font?
    Any tips?

    Looks promising:
    http://www.macworld.com/reviews/product/671498/review/microsoftword_for_mac2011.html
    The bottom line is this: Microsoft Word for Mac no longer feels like a second-string word processing program in the Microsoft Office suite. It is in fact a powerful tool for creating all your personal and business documents and for collaborating with others. More importantly, Word 2011 now makes it possible to insert a Mac into nearly any business environment and offer Mac users the same set of features found in Word for Windows, without compromise.
    And regarding Macros:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/154785/2010/10/welcomebackvisualbasic.html
    In my testing so far, Excel 2011 runs older macros just fine. I opened one macro-laden worksheet I’d created back in 1992 in Excel 2011; it ran perfectly. I also opened a number of Excel 2004 worksheets, all of which used macros to some degree or another, and they also worked as expected.
    New macros I’ve recorded so far all worked as expected. The Visual Basic Editor’s work area is mostly identical to that of Excel 2004’s, but with a few nice additions. For instance, the Edit menu features some new options for viewing properties, methods, constants and parameters. In the Debug menu, you can create Watch functions, which allow you to watch an expression and to stop the macro when a value changes or a condition becomes true.
    Microsoft’s Excel 2011 team has also worked to make Mac macros compatible with those written for Excel for Windows. According to Microsoft, Excel 2011 for Mac features a full port of the Windows Office VBA environment; in most cases, the OS X and Windows versions of VBA now mirror each other. This includes updating the core VBA engine in Office 2011 to VBA version 6.5, and adding some commands (FormatCurrency, FormatNumber, Replace) that had been disabled in Excel 2004 for the Mac. When there were object-model differences between the Windows and OS X versions, Microsoft says it conformed the Mac version to Office 2010. (Macworld hasn’t had the opportunity to fully test that Windows-compatibility yet.)
    Overall, I’ve been quite happy with the macro experience in Excel 2011. Now that Tools -> Macros does something useful once again, I can finally retire Excel 2004.

  • Apply different font styles in single text frame

    hi all
    how can i apply different font styles in a single text frame using indesign script ?
    for example :
    "dasdnasndasndlasndnasdlasdasdas"
    may i know is it possible to do that and how to do that ?
    thanks

    You can set (as well as read) every single property of any text range with scripts. This is javascript; it assumes you text cursor is inside a frame with some text.
    * Setting some specific characters to a color:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.characters.itemByRange(5,10).fillColor = "Red";
    * Change the font of words:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.words[3].appliedFont = "Arial\tBold";
    * .. or just the style:
    app.selection[0].parentStory.lines[2].fontStyle = "Italic";
    * .. or any other attribute (this one requires you to have at least 5 characters selected):
    app.selection[0].characters[5].underline = true;
    Of course these operations are not limited to something you select; they work the same with any text frames you can refer to.
    app.activeDocument.textFrames[1].paragraphs[2].appliedCharacterStyle = "charstyle";

  • Applying the ruler to the whole document?

    I am having trouble with the ruler in pages. I can manually adjust the rulers on each page but want to apply the same guidelines to the whole document?
    I have gone to preferences > rulers  and tried to figure out but I am at a loss?
    Can any one help????

    The Ruler applies to selected text. Always has in every software I have known.
    If it didn't you wouldn't be able to make individual adjustments.
    If you want it to apply to all the text in your document at this time:
    click in your text, Menu > Edit > Select All
    or
    command a
    and make your adjustments.

  • Is it possible to set up a Paragraph Style leaving the Font Style field blank?

    We often have to import text into InDesign from Word docs. We place the docs (Command-D, rather than copying and pasting) in order to preserve italics, bold text, etc. As it is now, we have to select all the text and set each element separately - leaving the Font Style field blank - in the Character Palette.
    It would save a lot of time, if we could set up a Paragraph Style without specifying the Font Style, (leaving it blank), which overrides the formatting we are trying to preserve. Is this possible?

    The answer is "kind of". You can create the Paragraph Style you want to apply and select the paragraphs you want to apply it to - then right-click on the Paragraph Style and choose 'Apply "Body". Clear Character Styles.'
    It is possible to do this as a Character Style if you click outside of a text area and create a new style. I do it all of the time as I import lots of Word documents to write to ePub (you have to define all of the styles to ensure the document looks right). Since the documents come in with small caps, bold, italics, different font sizes but the same font throughout.
    So I have a style based on None with blank Font Size and Font Style which I apply to the whole document. If there is anything in these boxes you can just erase it by backspacing over the text.

  • Opening document triggers auto-activation of fonts that aren't IN document

    I'm working on a document (annual report) that was based on a previous year's annual report. In the process I changed all the styles I defined to use a new font family. However, whenever I open the document I get auto-activation notices (Mac, Font Agent Pro) that the old font is opening - all 16 or 17 variations of it.
    Where is this font, that it's causing auto activation?
    It doesn't show up under Find Font.
    - Bob

    Another possibility is that there are frames in the document somewhere being USED as empty graphics frames, but which are in fact TEXT frames, with nothing in them but the "end of story" special character, with a rogue paragraph style applied, which specifies one of those fonts.
    If you find such a frame, change its content to "graphic" via Object --> Content --> Graphic. That might do it.

  • CS2 and CS3 HATE more than 4-5 font styles......

    Running Mac OSX 10.4.11 with dual 2 GHz Power PC G5, 1 GB Ram.
    Both CS2 and CS3 start acting R E A L SSSSLLOOOWW when I'm using more than 4-5 font styles on a page, like when creating a new logo, and typing the same name in different font styles.... At that point every action takes a while, and I find myself waiting for the computer to react, while I can hear the hard drive crunching...
    This happens ONLY when I have several font styles opened.... Once I outline them all, the speed is back to normal....
    As my primary Scratch Disk I have my hard drive, which has more than 70 GB available free disk. Secondary Scratch Disk is set for NONE.
    What gives?????

    The problem more then likely is 1 GB of RAM running on 10.4.11 which needs almost that amount to run by itself.
    The problem with the 150 GB drive is not so much that it is small by todays standards it is probably an older hard drive and therefore probably has a 8MB buffer making itwell slow at transferring files such as to a scratch disk which is also part of the problem as it is also probably the scratch disk and now you have these two things going against you and slowing the whole thing down each time you do anything that caches.
    Like loading a applying styles to fonts.
    I would suggest more then 4 GB of RAM and another hard drive partitioned so one partition can be used as a dedicated scratch.
    Also you might look, to see if I am correct, by means of the About this mac under the Apple menu and look at the hard drives buffer if 8MB then you might want to replace it
    with a hard drive that is much larger and has a 32 MB buffer.
    Just some things to consider you are a bit behind the times.

    BTW:
    If you add document xml tag map style, the style process can be ignored.
    Then:
    1. Do myStotry.placeXML(justImportedXMLElement);
    2. iterate the backward in justImportedXMLElement: get the footXMLElement, skip children;
    3.
    var myText = footxmlElement.texts[0];
    var ix = myText.insertionPoints[0].index;
    if(ix == 0){ix = 0;}
    var end = myText.insertionPoints[-1].index;
    myText = myStotry.insertionPoints.itemByRange(ix-1, end+1);
    myText.move(LocatcionOptions.atEnd, myStotry.insertionPoints[ix-1].footnotes.add().insertionPoints[-1])]);
    This will be quicker then the upper.

  • How can I change one section of the document to a landscape orientation and not the whole document?

    How can I change one section of the document to a landscape orientation and not the whole document?

    Page Setup, including page orientation, is done in the File menu. The setting applies to the whole document. As Peter says, you can rotate the contents of a page (not including the text layer of a word processing document).
    As an alternative, you could use Numbers, where Sheets are empty canvases onto which you may place images, charts, tables and text boxes, and where page orientation may be set for individual Sheets. The main tradeoff is that you lose many of the built-in word processing and page layout features of Pages.
