Font substituion in Keynote

When I set up my slides the fonts look fine. Once the document has been quit out of, and later re-opened, the spelling of the words has changed. I notice this in Safari as well when navigating through some of Apple's webpages. For ex: I spelled "Anti-obesity," saved my show, guit, and re-opened, and it came back as "Amti-Opesity." Why does this happen and what can I do to fix it. Is is a system font thing or what? I just purchased this for work presentations and I went to check out the iWork Tour, everything in the tour was like this as well. Words were misspelled and everything. Help?

I think i might have figured it out. Helveticahamper font was causing problems. So I deleted it from Suitcase and both Keynote and Safari work great now. The only thing that I still notice is that Keynote asks me to activate this font everytime I launch the application. Only I'm not using this font, i have all my slides spec'd as Gill Sans. This Helhamper font I think might be used by the master slides. If its corrupt how can it be fixed?

Why do fonts appear in Keynote, but not in Font Folder?

I made a misguided move in adding fonts through Font Book and am trying to restore my fonts to a previous iteration. Strangely though, the fonts appear in Keynote, but not in the usual Fonts folders. As is my guess, there is now something wrong with those fonts. There are utilities, that can possibly repair them - two mentioned in the article. If you have a backup of the fonts, from when they worked, perhaps just going to that, and reinstalling them will solve the issue. I'd hate to think that they might have to be acquired all over again, but that might be "plan D."
Periodically, I will copy all of my fonts to DVD (now - used to be CD), just to have them available for new computers, or OS's. Over the decades, I have lost a few to corruption, that could not be repaired. In several cases, I had an older BU, that did work, but have had to buy a few again. Just checked on my workstation, and I've got 19,362, though seldom more than about 350 ever installed at one time.
This reminds me that it's about time to do another BU, as I will be getting a new workstation and laptop fairly soon, and will need to transfer my fonts to them.
Good luck, and hope that things can be saved - I hate to loose a favorite font.

Hey guys!
I'm using special fonts in my Keynote decks, but they've suddenly stopped exporting correctly. Here's what I mean:
This is what my deck looks like in Keynote. But when I export to PDF it shows up like this:
It's still the same font (I think), but the formatting is way off. This is a new problem, as I've used the font before and the PDF exported just fine. Now when I go back to those old projects and export, the same problem happens.
Interestingly, the preview screen for the actual Keynote file also has the same weird formatting:
Any thoughts or ideas would be really appreciated. It's kind of urgent – I'm giving a talk tomorrow and I can't figure out a way to get them the properly formatted slides.

Had this problem too. Removing the .otf font from your library and installing the .ttf version of it fixes the problem.

Font Problems in Keynote

Hi all
Having some big Font problems using keynote since the last Snow Leopard update some month ago Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J869) .
I tried to install the Latest Font Update package as well but nothing.....
The problem is the Myriad Pro Bold font (Apple use Myriad Pro almost everywhere).
The other Myriads work just fine.
I have also checked the Font Book and the Font is NOT duplicated.
Have done some 50+ presentation in Keynote all with this Font.

Yes I have...nothing happens. The font is myriad pro bold, all other myriads works. The thing is that I have used that in almost every slide in some 50 presentations, i.e hundreds or perhaps thousends of slides and in keynote you can not change them all et once. On my both iMacs works just fine but I cant install the uptades just in case, and who carry around an iMac for every presentation

How can I make sure fonts in a Keynote presentation developed on iMac will show/match when transferring the presentation to MacBook Air?

It would seem (to me) this should not be an issue, but I have an iMac and MacBook Air with the identical version of OS (10.7.4) and Keynote ('09 5.1.1). Yet, the fonts don't match. Fonts I would regularly use when developing the presentation on the iMac do not transfer (create "Review" errors) to the Air. How can I fix it so that all the fonts on iMac show on Air?

If I am understanding your question correctly what you are wanting to achieve is not possible. You can't run the same keynote presentation on both devices at the same time. Also, why would you want to use the small screen size of the iPhone as your display instead of the iPad? If it is just to see your presenter notes then print them out and use the iPhone as your remote.
Perhaps more info is needed so i fully understand your issue.

Issue : How to get better definition of fonts/typography in Keynote when exporting to HD Quicktime ?

I understand there are no possibilities to "add" a vector button to future keynote allowing crisper and smoother fonts. However, when writing texts with effects in a Keynote presentation, and exporting it to Quicktime , whatever the resolutions chosen and clors and settings, still,effects are smooths, but fonts/typography/texts are not clean, crisp and when using a big display in full screen , the .mov or .mpeg4 outcome still always displays poor resolution for text.
Anyone could suggest something ? I want to be able to choose my texts effects on Keynote, while securing an outstanding fonts/texts resolution and apperance when in HD movie, quicktime or else.

I have several video clips from iStockPhoto. I don't know what camera's/settings were used, but know that they are all 640x360 px and vary between 25 fps and 30 fps. I also have 3 still images that I have insterted that I formatted to be 640x360 to keep everything the same size. Everything appears correct when viewing the project as I've built it. I'm attaching a few screen shots of the most recent settings for export, though these are not the only that I have tried. Everything comes out with the same result.
I can't insert screen shots of my settings for some reason (?) but here is some info on my most recent try. I chose to export as a Microsoft DV AVI. Then in the Video options I'm using the DV NTSC codec. For size, I chose the D1/NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2) option.
As for other times I've tried this, there are only 2 other codecs to choose from when saving as a DV AVI. I've tried both of them too. Everything has had the same result. I've tried a Quicktime file as well.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to the best file/codec/setting combination?

How can I find a font in a Keynote presentation?

Is there a way to do a "find" for the places that a particular font appears in a set of Keynote slides?
When I opened a Keynote presentation I'd created last year I got a warning that it could not find "MS PGothic" -- which is likely true since I don't use that particular font. The warning told me that this font was on the 2nd slide but all I see there is the standard TNR font that I use for text blurbs. I'd like to search for where this random font appears but I could not find a way to include a font-spec in the Edit->Find parameters.
Is there some place where I can see all the fonts in use in a presentation and, more specifically, pinpoint the places were a given font is in use?
This is Keynote on my computer, not the iPad rendition of Keynote.

The Replace Font wasn't useful because the rogue font was not visible and, thus, a change to some other font (even when I picked one that should have been a stand-out) didn't help me locate the bad spot(s). I did use your suggestion and created a new slide, moving bits onto it from the 'bad' slide until I got that new one to 'break' also.
I eventually narrowed it down to the 'soft' line breaks I'd inserted in some of the text blocks. For some reason that I can't explain those line-break characters had rendered in that MS PGothic font, which I don't use (and which I had disabled). Once I knew the pattern, it was a fairly simple matter to select the text block (including the line breaks) and reapply the paragraph's font. And, viola!, the warnings are now gone.

Using Symbol Font in Pages/Keynote etc.

Here is a strange problem: Whenever I want to insert a greek character from Symbol font Pages (09 as well as 08, and Keynote ...) replaces it by some standard font (probably Helvetica). In effect, Symbol is not available. If I want to write a simple formula containig a greek character (as e.g a small beta) I have to use Mathtype or copy and paste from word. Good old Appleworks also works fine with Symbol font.
Can anybody help?? What am I doing wrong???

Using the character pallette or activating the greek keyboard will of course do. It seems an awkwardly labourious way to me, though. If I understand you correctly there is no other way. Why would symbol font (which is not greek but symbol!) not work in the same way as e.g. Wingdings (Zapf Dingbats behaves just as symbol, though)? I Don't care for Unicode, but this, I think, is unfortunate.
It is the other way around - the way monotonic Greek and mathematics are drawn in Adobe PostScript is a disaster -:). It helps to read Inside Macintosh: Text, published in 1993, and the PostScript Language Reference Manual, first and second version.
How was monotonic Greek and mathematics drawn on the Apple LaserWriter in 1985? Well, it was drawn by depicting the glyphs for monotonic Greek and mathematics in the built-in Adobe Symbol font program dictionary onto Apple Roman.
Adobe PostScript provides two procedures to get from characters to glyphs, StandardEncoding and FontSpecific encoding. The latter encoding vector is used when the Adobe PostScript configurable name space that replaces a character set is used to overrule the operating system character set.
If you were typing monotonic Greek because you wanted to type Greek, and not because you wanted to type mathematics, you were in the ditch with this hack since the hack broke spelling, sorting and searching which are processes that are predicted on character codes.
Apple Royal, now Apple Advanced Typography, was a project that took two directions to address the problem of drawing to the display and the printer.
First, the CMAP Character Map was intended to include the characters for the writing systems of world scripts.
Second, the layout logic to map from characters to glyphs was intended to provide evaluatable appearances for stylistic alternates such as small capitals, superscripts, subscripts and ligatures.
Adobe PostScript is a one-to-one mapping model that by definition is incapable of protecting the source character string when drawing fine typography.
You may rest assured that the issue of interactive input methods is on the agenda for computer manufacturers. For instance, Microsoft failed in a bid to acquire Swiss keyboard maker Logitech in 2008.

Strange font situation in Keynote

I just upgraded to Yosemite and the latest version of keynote. I opened a presentation I previously created in the last version of Keynote and a weird thing is happening with fonts not appearing correctly. I attached 2 screenshots to illustrate what's happening, I drew red circles on the one to show where its happening, the other is pretty apparent.

Seems to have something to do with the Character Styles, getting the same thing there.

Font size in Keynote and Pages Table on IPAd

I imported some keynote presentation into iPad and was horrified to see all my tables with text entries got totally screwed up. After a brief investigation, I discovered that on the iPad if you create a table your are limited to 4 text sizes (L, M, S and Tiny, just like bathing suite sizes). Even the Tiny size is too big for the tables I use.
Any ideas on how I can use regular font sizes in tables (like 12, 10 8 and so forth)? Am I missing something here? Any help will be appreciated!

Not if you restore from a backup you've made on iTunes. All the settings, etc. will be the same. Of course, there may be corrupted files in the backup that are causing your crash. Give it a try and see what happens.

Font issue in keynote: it doesn't keep my selected font

Recently, all my keynote presentations (newly created or old ones) lost their choosen fonts. All the text is reset to what looks like an italic Arial.
the funny thing is, if I change the font in the master, reapply master to file, it is fine, but if I save, close, then reopen my file, the font is back to the Arial Italic.... very bizarre behaviour. I tried many things, nothing would do.

I´m using keynote on a MBP 5,3 with Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J869).
I´m having big problems with some fonts on keynote, like myriad pro.
They will all get mixed up. A line of text is reduced to a short mix with all letters on top of each other!
Tried installing the latest snow leopard update, no result.

Fonts and older Keynote presentation

I have tons of Keynote 08 presentations which no longer open in keynote after upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6.2). I think the problem is related to Fonts (based on my reading of the error message details). Does anyone has any clue as to how do resolve this (aside from going back to previous OS version)?

It is really strange, the presentation opens in Keynote, I can see the slides and then it hourglasses and crashes. The error message essentially says that Keynote quit unexpectedly. Under details there are some references to font libraries.
I can create new presentations, use the same fonts as the ones in the older presentations, save them and have not problems. It is only the old ones that are not opening.

Font parsing problem KEYNOTE, CRASH

When i launch a theme, iKeynote crash.

I've resolved all fonts duplication problems via the option purposed in Font Book. I've clear my font cache via Onyx, then restarted, then resintalled iWork, but nothing changed. Keynote crash everytime with all themes.
