Fontagent Pro 4.0.2 is very slow on importing fonts

Everytime I try to import fonts into Fontagent, I have to wait a looong time. Importing 16 fonts with about 162 files took about 15(!) minutes. Furthermore, if FAP is unable to import a certain font, it does not display a warning message. Instead it says 'no fonts have been imported". Which does not keep it from copying the fonts to its font folder. Does anybody have a solution to this?

Where did you find version 4.0.2? I'm only still getting 4.0.1 when downloading from InsiderSoftware or MacUpdate.
4.0.1 was a no-go with us because I'd get crashes with some InDesign documents. I don't have time to add that to the workday.

My MacBook Pro just started to run very slow, what can I do to fix it?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Macbook pro mid-2012 13" has very slow disk access

Until 3 days ago my macbook pro mid-2012 13" running OX 10.8.3 was running fine. Then, it showed very slow response anytime it had to access the hard disk. After doing the usual checks and disk first aid repairs to no avail, I booted from my external disk with an older copy of my hard disk and everything then worked as normal, except when I accessed the internal hard disk, then it crawled once again (spinning beach ball, took many seconds just to open a finder window and then several minutes to display the contents). I ran the Apple Hardware Tests and it said everything was fine, even though it tooks several minutes before the test would actually start. I also ran the program BlackMagic Speed Disk to find out if the disk was having transfer speed problems and it showed a respectible transfer rate (60MB/s), not great but not like the 0.3MB/s I was getting when I tried to back up the internal disk. I was using Carbon Copy Cloner to try to back up the internal disk but had to give up since at 0.3MB/s, it would take days to back up the 250GB on the disk. I found on the web that using "restore" in Disk Utility, I could do a disk copy without the file by file copy which allowed me to back up my disk in "only" 6 hours. Booting from my newly made copy on an external disk worked fine and ran at nearly normal speed (slightly slower since it was an external disk running through USB2). As a final attempt to prove this was a disk problem, I erased the internal disk and reinstalled OSX 10.8. I am still waiting for this install to finish, it has been 5 hours although the progress bar said it should be done in 20 minutes. This was fairly convincing evidence that it is not a software or settings problem. However, all my web searches could find no other case of a problem like mine. I presume I have a failed hard disk but as all the diagnostic programs say it is working fine, I was hesitating to bring it in without hard diagnostic evidence. If anyone knows what might be the problem, it would be much appreciated to hear from you.

It should not take 5 hours to install Mac OS X.  There is something wrong with the disk.  Try reformatting where you do a wipe of the drive (an select the option to write zeros which will remap bad sectors).   Then try to install MAc OS X.
I got this information from here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20064489-263.html
    Back up your data.
Use Time Machine or a system cloning utility to create a full and restorable backup of your data. If you suspect bad blocks, then when cloning you might consider not using a "block-level" copy process, since this will likely run into problems.
    Boot to the utilities DVD.
If you have a boot DVD for a tool like Drive Genius or another drive utility, then boot to that; if not, use your OS X installation DVD (once you select your language, open Disk Utility from the Utilities menu).
    Format the drive.
Using your selected utility, format the drive and check for bad blocks. If you are using Disk Utility, click the Erase tab, click the Options button, and then select the option to write zeros to the disk (you do not need to do multipass erase options, as this will provide no additional benefit for managing bad blocks). Writing to zeros may take a couple of hours depending on the size of the drive, but when done the drive will have remapped any blocks that were not reliably read.
    Restore the OS installation.
If you have used Time Machine to create your backup, boot to your OS X installation DVD (if you are not using Disk Utility) and use the option in the Utilities menu to restore from backup. Attach your Time Machine drive and then proceed with the restoration, selecting the newest backup as the one to restore to your system. If you have used a system cloning tool, then attach the cloned drive and boot off of it (hold the Option key at start-up to select it from the boot menu). When you are booted to the cloned drive, run your cloning utility to copy the installation back to the computer's main boot drive. An optional approach here is to perform a full reinstallation of the OS from your installation DVD, and then migrate your data, applications, and settings from either the clone or the Time Machine backups using Apple's Migration Assistant.

  • How can I check my Mac book pro as it is running very slow

My mac book pro has just sterted to run very slow indeed. I noticed it after I registered to use Knowhow cloud.
I wondered if anyone else has had a simular problem, and if you can help me.
    Many thanks

Well it depends what you have backed up to their cloud service.
If it's a lot, it's going to take a long time to upload all your stuff as Internet Service Providers restrict upload speeds to a fraction of their download speeds.
Cloud backups is bad, the data can be snooped on without a warrant, it can be lost and it's slow as heck unless it's only a small amount.
If you don't know what your doing, then disconnect from the Internet and uninstall their software, use a external drive you can get from any computer or office store and connect it to the Mac, when TimeMachine pops up and asks, say yes and let it work overnight to create your first backup (takes the longest)
Forget the Cloud, it's a joke.

  • Macbook Pro "13 2.7Ghz 2011, VERY slow after Sleep

    So, this is the case.
I recently changed from windows to Mac, and by first look, I was very impressed, BUT!!
Ever since I bought the Macbook Pro I have had a little enoyig problem.
Whenever I close the lid or it goes to sleep automatically (cause of the timer), it will be very slow, when I open it up again.
I tested this a few times, justclosing the lid, wait 30 seconds, and then open again (with no applications running exept Safari (1 tab)), and when I try to scroll on Facebook in safari it laggs like I was trying to play Crysis 2 on a N64 =)
Before I close the lid (Before Sleep) everything runs smoothly, but if the computer has gone to sleep I reach a point when I cant work with the computer cause of the enoying lag, and I have to restart the computer.
WHen I restart, everything is good again, even if all the windows comes upp.
Please, are anyone experiencing these problems?

  • Mac os x lion 10.7 on mac book pro not updating and running very slow

i am using mac os x lion 10.7
problem it is not updating and running very slow. How to improve?

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic  test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help to identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the state of the system that may be pertinent.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: You copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, proceed anyway.
Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script. It does nothing but produce human-readable output. However, you need to be cautious about running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The script will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but it's really a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
If you have more than one user, and the affected user is not an administrator, then please run the script twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The administrator is the user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time. If you can't log in as an administrator, just run the script as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    clear; PB=/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy; PR () { [[ "$o" ]] && o=$(sed 's/^/   /' <<< "$o") && printf '\n%s:\n\n%s\n' "$1" "$o"; }; PC () { o=$(egrep -v '^[[:blank:]]*($|#)' "$2"); PR "$1"; }; PF () { o=$($PB -c Print "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'); PR "$1"; }; PN () { [[ $o -eq 0 ]] || printf "\n%s: %s\n" "$1" $o; }; a=$(id | grep -w '80(admin)'); [[ "$a" ]] && sudo true && r=1 || r=; { [[ "$a" ]] || echo $'No admin access\n'; [[ "$a" && !     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter your password, the script will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important, so don't worry about it.
The script may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear in the Terminal window.
You can then quit Terminal. The output of the script will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V again.
    Please note:
☞ This procedure is all copy-and-paste — type nothing in the Terminal window except your login password if and when prompted.
☞ Remember to post the output. It's already in the Clipboard when you see "[Process completed]" in the Terminal window. You don't have to copy the output; just paste into your web browser.
☞ If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

  • Premiere Pro CC locking up and very slow to load bigger projects

I am having a problem with premirepro cc locking up and very slow to load bigger projects.
    Windows 8 machine

I am having the EXACT same issue and now we are WAY behind deadlines.  We have Adobe for Teams on 3 computers, all are HPZ820, Dual Proc with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 @ 2.00GHz, 32 GB RAM, Dual Video Cards Quadro 6000 4GB, Windows 7 64 bit with all the latest patches.  Everything worked on the first release of 2014 but last week there was an "update" to Premiere.  Since this update, projects work for a short period.  When you start a new project and add footage, you can scrub the footage and play the footage with no issue.  But the more assets you add, simple Titles, it slowly starts to fail.  Playing the timeline starts and stops and then finally the end result is you can't even play the timeline.  The Program window is frozen.  I have even tested starting a new project, adding assets one by one but no matter what, I get the same results.

  • My mind 2014 macbook pro keeps freezing and is very slow after the yosemite update

HI my macbook 2014 model keeps freezing and it is very slow after i had updated it to yosemite

Why don't you try these: ( might or might not help, but it's worth a try )
See what you have loading on your login items.
Open up activity momitor, under All Procesess, see what's using most of your CPU resources (%).
Hightlight the one using the highest % on the CPU then click on quit process and see if that works.
Once you're done with that, go to Disk Utility and do a verify disk.  After that, do a verify disk permission and repair if needed.
    See if that helps you.

  • MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro2,1 Running Very Slow Under Mavericks

I have been having extreme slowness issues with lots of SBOD spinning delays since upgrading my older MacBook Pro to Mavericks last month. It takes forever to "see" and run a back-up on my G Drive Time Machie drive, which has been historically very speedy and reliable. It should not take 5 hours to back up to the daily Time Machine drive, which at most took 20 minutes, maybe 30 if I installed new OS X software upgrades or updates. Sometimes when I run my third party software (much of it from MicroSoft Office, FileMaker, and the second to latest Adobe Master Collection Suite), I get more SBODs and some hiccuping until the software/document boots up. As recently as Mountain Lion, this was never an issue before, normal things that just ran seemlessly without thinking. Very occasionally even when shutting down, the finder loses track of what it is doing. When I do the Force Quit thing because third party software or the Finder Launcher has become "not resposive," even this can take a long time. I am wondering if this has to do with Mavericks bug/feature of rationing out unused memory, which my memory chips may not like on my bottom of the compatibility bracket machine spectrum. Is there perhaps a need for a more up to date firmware version for my model?
I have tried all available software testing options, and I found nothing that seemed amiss in the software end at all. I cannot access anything like Apple Hardware Test to assess and hardware problems either via my proprietary Mavericks-installed bootable OS X and Utilities partition or via the Apple Support Site to see if a dying hard drive is the culprit.
FYI About this Mac, which Apple's Support Site swears will work with Mavericks.
Model: MacBook Pro, MacBook Pro3,1 (late 2007 - early 2008) (17", 2.6 GHz)(Built as an online order, to my specifications)
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo
Hard Drive: 250 GB (SATA Disk) (64.83 MB Available To Me, Remainder Taken Up By Apple OS X proprietary partition)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB
    Built-In Display: 17" (1920 x 1200)
Memory: 4 GB 667 MHrz DDR2 SDRAM (2 Banks of 2 MB each) (Full complement)
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP31.0070.B07
    Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-001EC2127516
    SMC Hardware Version: 1.18ƒ5
Current Version of Mavericks: OS X 10.9.2, Original Installed Version: Mavericks OS X 10.9.0 (13C64)
When I installed the new system software from the App Store, I did remember to disable my Norton Security Suite, so the download and installation should have been clean and unimpeded. There were no reported problems with the installation or the upgrade process. I chose the option at original installation to upgrade my laptop using the "migrate from my latest Time Machine Backup feature" to preserve the third party applications and settings.
My Firmware was all up to date, according to the Apple Support Page articles relating to my model. All permissions checked out OK as did all verification tests on the Mountain Lion Apple Partition (the one accessed via restarting with Command-R) before I started.
Since Apple has not been willing to release its system core software to the third- party makers of my Optimizing software (Disk Warrior, Alsoft), I have not been able to optimize the contents of my hard drive since the version that came out with Lion OS X 10.7; this may be a possible source of my problem. If my files are badly fragmented, it is difficult for the Finder to find and work with Apps and Documents, most especially with any great speed. I attempted to do likewise with TechTool Pro 7.x (MicroMat); likewise they could not optimize or check out my whole hard drive volume. A suggested solution of installing a Bootable drive into Apple's proprietary OS partition sounds like it would erase the Mavericks OS X/ Diagnostic Drive rather than be added to it. Could Apple work with Alsoft and MicroMat, so they can make current Boot-Up disks that would again allow me to optimize my entire HD volume? Otherwise, could Apple write its own optimization suite to help speed up my hard drive, if it is unwilling to share its operating code with third-party diagnostic software developers?
Then I thought of using Apple Hardware Test using the familiar Command-D from the Apple proprietary partiion (that was expected to still be included with the OS X Mavericks original upload from the App Store. I found it was not installed despite following the Apple Support Page directions and nothing including ethernet connected. When I tried to connect via the alternate method from the Apple Support Cloud using Option-D, my laptop found nothing at Apple's end. Does such diagnostic software still exist, or has this been scrapped. It would be an imptant tool to use to see if the source
I rerun Permissions and Verification in Command-R mode periodically since upgrading to Mavericks., and all permissions and disk integrity from this test have been corrected and updated as of today. Everything checks out as just fine in terms of software. I am out of ideas of what else to check from my end. Unless anyone in the Apple Support Community has any other good suggestions as to what might be wrong (other than an Apple software tweak) that I can do at my home office, I will have to take my poor laptop over to the nearest Apple Genius Bar and turn my older laptop over to a hardware technician at full cost (Applecare has long since run out).
All suggestions for fixes are welcomed.

All functions running very slowly. I have to limit the number of open applications to about three or the 4GB memory hits maximum and the system slows to almost completely non responsive. Perhaps was slowing down with earlier versions of OS X, but notice particularly with 10.9 and 10.9.4.

You might obtain some relief by installing a 4 GB RAM module in place of one of the two 2 GB modules.  That would then allow for the MBP to operate with the maximum of 6 GB RAM that an early 15" 2008 MBP supports.
The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC and Crucial.

  • My MacBook Pro is brand new but very slow. So disappointing. Why is it starting very slowly?

My Macbook Pro 13' is brand new however, it does not serve me well compared to my old compaq laptop. It is so annoying and disppointing. I am also a new user of Mac than Windows. There's something going on especially when I am to start up my Mac, it takes so long. Very embarrasing even. Plus, I thought of adding a mcaffee anti-virus thinking it will solve any problem but it gotten worse. Nothing so disppointing like Macbook PRO! can't even uninstall completely the anti-virus. Can someone please assist a beginner in Mac like me? Thank you.

  • My Macbook Pro Retina 2012 is running very slow and gives me frequent speed problems.

So, I've noticed it happen gradually for about a year now. It started with just minor but not significant delays in opening up programs, but I didn't mind it because the computer was still fast compared to a PC, which is what I used to use before this Macbook. I got this macbook in 2012, and luckily I still have a warranty, but it'll close soon.
    Right now, some problems include:
    1)
    2) Shutting down and turning on the computer is slow (sorry no picture on this one). When I first bought this mac, and until about a year ago, whenever I turn it on/off it would do it instantly. But now, there is a bit of a delay when turning off. The screen seems to just freeze at a certain frame, stays that way for a few seconds (longer when turning it off right after playing a game or two-- don't worry they're compatible with Mac OS), and then shuts off. And when it's frozen at that frame time, you can still see the background materials because they're only faded away. You know what I'm talking about-- Macbook turns out when turning off and then shuts down. So, much of the screen is white, but you can still see the screen prior to the shut down faded.
    3) Internet is running extremely slow. When I check my speed at speedtest.net, I get around 47 mbps on bad days and 53-ish on good days (download speed)

Resetting computer to factory conditions doesn't work, time-machine didn't work, and clearing more storage space didn't work either. I would like to get this problem fixed before my warranty runs out. Thanks for reading and any sort of help will be appreciated!

Do you know of any specific tasks or situations that cause it to perform poorly? If so, make a note of those and demonstrate them for Apple. Do NOT, under any circumstances, restart the machine. You want it at its worst when you take it in. If you try to do any of those magic resets, it may just reset things just long enough for Apple to proclaim it healthy. If Apple does that anyway, then there are plenty of opportunities to try those things later after your warranty has expired.
I wish I knew exactly when it does this, but it doesn't always happen. It sometimes does, and sometimes doesn't. I thought about this, too. But the problem is that it's really hard to catch a time or figure out what causes these symptoms to occur. I haven't taken it to Apple because I thought it'll just be a waste of time because they'll probably say that it's healthy so they don't have to put any money/effort to try and fix it...

My Macbook Pro 2014 is running extremely slow in Mac Excel 2011.  I just recently made the purchase (Last week) to upgrade from my Macbook Pro 2013.  The upgrade was for work as I handle large spreadsheets in my new role.  It would take some time to load before, and I was told it was because I only had 4GB of RAM.  Now, I have 16 GB of RAM and it runs slower than before.  Can anyone assist me with a solution?

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 Sequence Running Very Slow

    Hello,
I am working on a documentary project with over 500 hours of HD footage, and over 20,000 assets (according to PPro’s media loading indicator). The main file format is MXF (~50 Mbps), with some H.264, GoPro, and iPhone thrown in.
My assistant is in the process of transcoding everything to ProRes 422 Proxy (~28 Mbps) 1920x1080, with the intent to upres to ProRes HQ once picture is locked. So footage is continually being off-lined and relinked as ProRes while I'm in this initial editing phase.
I have only been editing for about a month, but it has been a smooth experience until about a week ago after I updated to CC 2014, turned Peak File Generation on, and my main sequence started getting over 30 minutes long. There are no added filters. It’s just basic footage and cuts.
Now as soon as I start my project, it lags several seconds when I click in the timeline or press play - just any timeline action really. But it’s not consistent. It’s slow about 75% of the time. Sometimes it will be going fast, then when I quickly make multiple keystrokes it becomes a snail.
When I’m in a smaller sequence of under 5 minutes, or just in the Project Panel, it runs much smoother, but is beginning to lag more often. And in the 30+ min sequence, it is slower when zoomed out than when zoomed in. But just the zooming in process is laggy.
This is the main issue I’m having, and I’m concerned it will continue to get worse as the final project will be around 2 hours long, with a likely 4+ hour initial assembly. I'll eventually split it up into 10-20 minute reels, but am not at that stage yet. I'm aware this could be either a software issue on Adobe's part or workflow issue on my part. So any feedback is welcome.
Here’s the fixes I’ve attempted so far:
    1) Cleaned the Media Cache Database, and have the Media Cache saving to a secondary internal HDD.
    2) Changed the Program preview from Full to 1/4 quality.
    3) Turned off Automatic Peak File Generation, but most clips already have them generated.
    4) In ‘Sequence Settings,’ turned off ‘Composite in Linear Color’ (since it requires GPU acceleration or max render quality.)
    5) Removed all the plug-ins (which are mostly Red Giant) from the MediaCore folder.
    6) Uninstalled CS6 programs, still have CC installed.
    6) Exported an XML, and re-imported into a fresh, new CC 2014 project and a CC (7.2.2) project.
    7) Reinstalled CC 2014.
    8) In Sequence Settings, changed Preview File Format from I-Frame Only MPEG to Apple ProRes 422 (Proxy)
    Same results throughout.
