FontBook issues since upgrading to Mavericks

Since upgrading to mavericks when i try to install new typefaces (.otf, work perfectly on my other computers which are running on mountain lion). They do not show up in font book. Even when I manually add them to the Fonts folder, they still do not show up in Font Book or any of my applications. As a graphic designer, this is obviously a huge issue for me.
Not to mention, this isn't the only problem I have since upgrading. For example all of my adobe programs are suddenly riddled with bugs (issues resizing assets, drop down menus dissapear, etc). I have been trying to trouble shoot several issues for a while now with no solutions. All of the problems I have seem to be experienced by other users. It's very frustrating to me that the new OS is so buggy. I have never had this problem before when upgrading products.

One of the users just upgraded and is having this issue as well. I told him to use Firefox as that browser has no problems. This is a workaround at best as the Apple Store is still inaccessable. I believe the problem lies with Safari's implementation of SSL as normal http:// sites load, albeit very slowly. Any sites that use https:// are unavailable.

  • Messages App| connectivity issues since upgrading to Mavericks

is anyone having problems since upgrading to Mavericks with connectivity issues in the "Messages" app? Im on a 2011 MacBook Pro. I will start a desktop share session with my folks (IMAC) and within 2-3 minutes of having access to their desktop, I'm unable to control any longer and their system freezes.

    HI,
When iChat 3 came out someone tested whether it would work on the platform that was running iChat 2 and also tested whether iChat 2 would work on the later OS.
This eventually led to the Reinstall procedure for iChat 3 up to the iChat 5 version.
Since then the app has required either a Backup version from when it was working, a copy on another machine running the same OS and app version numbers (the two go hand in hand) or you have to Reinstall the whole OS which will always update you to the latest version of the OS (and in the case of Messages any updates it has had).

  • Proxy Issues since upgrading to Mavericks

I use my Mac Mini (Model 5,1 Core i5, 2.3GHz) at work and run windows using VMWare. Since upgrading to Mavericks I cannot get OSX to connect to the proxy server. I am using the same settings as I used in Mountain Lion, which worked fine. I do not have any problems with Windows connecting.
I can see the internal network, access files and printers, but cannot get through the proxy server to the internet. Oddly enough Dropbox on the Mac works fine through the proxy server so I have to think its a problem in Mavericks.
I have tried changing settings including manually entering proxy info for all protocols under network settings.
Unfortunately the IT guys only support Windows (which is working) so I am on my own on the Mac side.
Anyone else having a problem or have a solution (besides waiting for an update)?

  • Performance issues since upgrade

I am on a late 2011 MacBook Pro and am having severs performance issues since upgrading to Mavericks. I fear my issues may be related to company installed anti-virus (which I cannot remove), but I was hoping someone could look over my EtreCheck for other potential solutions.
One really odd issue I am having, which I cannot seem to find good information for on Google, is at least 4-5 times a day my Mac just stops. No beach ball, no anything, for about 1-5 minutes. Then it's fine. Maybe just me grasping at straws, but it seems related to a when webpage loads a bunch of images? I always use Safari btw, but testing other browsers, like Chrome & Firefox, it happens as well.
I have also removed TotalFinder and have noticed no improvement and still have the above issue.
    Thanks in advance!

  • TS3977 Issue with extended display using Displaylink USB to DVI since upgrading to Mavericks.

I have an issue now since upgrading to Mavericks with my extended display monitor using a displaylink DVI to USB adapter. After awhile, the monitor goes blank. I can unplug the connection from the USB port and plug it back in and the display comes back, only to go out again a short time later.
It worked fine for months prior to the upgrade.
Apple say it's Dispalylink's problem and Displaylink says it's Apple's problem. Anyone else having this or a similar isssue?

Someone opened a bug report with Apple in another thread - about a different product that used DisplayLink drivers, and Apple blamed the vendor.
I have many issues too. Crashing Window Manager, and once it crashed my Mac.
I also have many issues... one is corrupt display. The icons are missing in the menubar on my laptop, and squished together on my external monitor:
They are there if I mouse over, but invisible.
I can't click on the squished ones, they are to close.

Since upgrading to Mavericks, Mail is extremely slow to load the preview pane or show email when mailbox is double-clicked. Is this a known issue? Or is there a solution to this issue?

    Hi AngieLynch,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're seeing some unexpected behavior in Mail.
Before troubleshooting on your computer, I'd strongly recommend backing up your data to an external hard drive with Time Machine, if you haven't already. This article can help with setting up Time Machine:
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
Next, try creating a new user account on your computer. You can add your email account to Mail in the new user account. If Mail is more responsive in the new user account, then Mavericks is working fine and the behavior is caused by conflicts in your own Mail or user account.
These articles walk you through creating a new user and setting up Mail:
OS X Mountain Lion: Create a new user account (applies to Mavericks, too.)

  • Mail not receiving emails since upgrading to Maverick

I have been having nothing but issues using the Mail program since upgrading to Maverick earlier this year.  I can't get my incoming emails to sync normally (I have multiple different accounts set up from different servers), sometimes they come in with no issues and other times they don't show up for hours or after I manually restart the program/computer.  I know there is a huge delay because they come in on my phone and iPad without any issues.  This is a huge problem for me since I use Mail for all my work emails and I can't log into all the different web applications easily.  Can anyone give me any suggestions??  I've tried taking the accounts offline and then resyncing them and sometimes it works but lately it isn't doing the trick either.    Here is my mail version I'm using :  Version 7.3 (1878.6)  and I'm in OSX 10.9.5  I haven't upgraded Yosemite because my last upgrade to Maverick was such a headache...  Please help!!!

    Hey there lasmith4,
I see that you are experiencing some issues with troubleshooting Mail on your Mac. Here is an article that should be able to take you through some more relevant troubleshooting steps for this issue:

  • Can't access Time Machine files since upgrading to Mavericks

I have searched the community and found that people have experienced issues backing up to Time Machine since upgrading to Mavericks, but my problem appears slightly different from the ones I've found.  I can see that my Time Machine is actually backing up since the upgrade as it was before the upgrade.  The issue I'm having is that I can't access the backed-up files in any way.
When I try to open time machine it launches the "space view" with all of the historical tabs lined up for me to scroll through, but imediately closes that window and gives the error message: "Can't connect to a current Time Machine backup disc".  It's so weird, because it says that there have been backups completed since the upgrade (most recently this morning).  If it wasn't writing to the disc, it would have showed me an error of some sort.
What I am, specifically, trying to accomplish is that I need to restore some iTunes playlists that I somehow managed to delete this past weekend.  I figured that I would easily be able to access the library file that contains the playlists from Saturday morning, when I KNOW that playlist was still there, and just restore it.  Now that I am seeing that I can't access any of my time machine files, I'm realizing that I have an even bigger problem, and that all of my files are, essentially, going without backup at this time (assuming I can't access the files that have already been backing up).
If anyone has some insight as to how I can fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi John, (The above was for your attention) I'm 72 and must've hit the wrong button!!!
I followed your instructions to the letter, but sadly, no success...all my backups are showing on the TM external HD, but I cannot access them after instsalling 'Mavericks'
I spent the entire day on and off the phone with Applecare (they are very nice, and I'm sure they know most of the stuff needed; but not this problem. They are phoning back tomorrow as the senior chap was not available.
I love my apple products, and like you, have been using their gear for well over 25 years...not studying the things, but using them all the way through.
My present Mac,  a 24" iMac is nearly 7 years old, bought on December 11th 2007, and this is the first time I have had a significant problem, and never a virus..got bless em!. I bet there are not many Windows users around who can say the same!
However, if I cannot access my backups, I'm a bit lost, as all my accumulated stuff is there!
I guess the worst case scenario is that I revert to OS X 10.7.5, and wait 'til the bugs are ironed out in Mavericks....Ho Hum

  • Macbook pro running painfully slowly since upgrade to Mavericks and worse since Yosemite

Hi, since upgrading to Mavericks my previously excellent 2011 Macbook Pro is running painfully slowly, and things have only got worse since the upgrade to Yosemite. It takes anything up to 10 minutes to get fully functional from opening the lid on standby, can take a good 5 minutes to connect to wifi, and I am getting stuck with constant spinning beach balls. I've cleaned things up, and deleted anything unnecessary so I have adequate space on the HDD but this doesn't seem to make any difference, and I'm not running any particularly memory hungry software. It was working perfectly before these upgrades and I'm really wishing I could just downgrade back to Mountain Lion now! I'm no expert so could really use some help. Do I just need more RAM or is this something more complicated?
I've run Etresoft and here are the results (I note there is some adware listed on Safari, but I don't use it ,using Chrome and Firefox instead):

  • Unable to print with HP Color LaserJet 2605dn since Upgrading to Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I've had nothing but problems printing to my HP Color Laserjet 2605dn.
I'm having this problem on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro.
    I get errors like:
"unable to write pirnt data broken pipe"
"unable to send data to printer"
    "printer not connected"
I've been reading responses to others with similiar issues and I've tried
    deleting and re-adding my printer.
    reseting my printing system
    Installing Guenprint.
re-adding my pirnter with a generic PCL driver.
None seem to correct the problem.
This problem happens both when connected directoy with USB and when connected through the network.
I have no problem printing with my work (Wondows) laptop.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, a brody.
Yesterday (before I read your response), I downloaded the latest firmware (20140413.) (What do they say about great minds?)
I thought the issue may have been resolved.
I was finally able to print my bank statement on both the iMac and MacBook.
Today, I'm back to the the same issues.
Very frustrating, even though I've had the printer for five years, I've printed less than 20,000 pages.
In my mind, it's pointing more and more towards a hardware issue.

  • Cannot print to Canon LBP 3360 since upgrading to Mavericks

I cannot print to my Canon LBP 3360 since upgrading to Mavericks.  Would anyone know of a work around for this.  Canon is not making any promises about upgrading the driver.

  • Since upgrading to Maverick my iPhoto does not consistently download my Nikon or my Canon camera photos.

Since upgrading to Maverick my iPhoto does not consistently download my Nikon or my Canon camera photos. Occasionally it will recognize and download photos, most of the time though it hangs in "loading" mode with nothing downloaded. I've unplugged, replugged numerous times, tried a different USB port, tried the two cameras so it's not the camera or line that's the issue, turned the computer off, turned iphoto off, turned everything else off and stil nothing. I need my photos for my work and can't get to them, this seems to be an issue with Maverick AGAIN!!! Is there a fix? HELP! Thanks!

    iPhoto Version 9.5.1
Thank you for your help Terence. I had 140 photos on my Nikon, none were viewable in iphoto, in Image Capture 5 were viewable, 135 weren't. I tried importing one to my desktop but it remained static and didn't move over. I just deleted all the photos on my camera, took a fresh photo and after waiting a good 4 minutes finally uploaded to both iphoto and Image Capture. As this took so long for one photo I'm wondering if the memory in my computer would impact the speed. I have 350GB used and 150GB left
By reformat the cards do you mean the flash card in the camera? I don't know how to do that, it's less that 6 months old.

  • Screensaver not working since upgrading to Mavericks

As the title says my screensavers doesn't 'kick in' since upgrading to Mavericks at the weekend. I've tried reselecting my chosen photo folder but it still doesn't work. All it does is stay on the desktop screen. Has anyone else had this and know how to fix it?
I'm running an early 2012 (pre retina) MBP 15" with the "classic" style screensaver.
    TIA

I think I've finally fixed this problem. I tried changing the delay time, I tried re-choosing the designated folder, and I even tried re-installing Mavericks and none of it solved the issue.
As a last resort I tried deleting the folder I keep my photos in for the screen saver and created a new one and it appears to working fine now (touch wood).

  • CC 7.1: Ridiculous render times since upgrading to mavericks

This is my first time editing a project in Premiere Pro CC7.1 since upgrading to Mavericks. Playback was running very glitchy while trying to play a very simple composition imported from AE. Just a basic motion graphic, nothing too heavy. My computer froze and reset 2 times while trying to play it before rendering, so I am now rendering the sequence to see if this will solve the issue and it's rendering 1 frame every 15-20 seconds.
In the past this same operation would have taken 10-15 seconds total to render.
I'm using a brand new MacBook Pro Retina 15" 2.7GHz with 16GB of RAM.
Has anyone else had this issue and/or any suggestions on how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance!!

I have been seeing this and a wide variety of similar problems - the Adobe-Mac community appears to be exploding on the issue of CC and Macs/Mavericks esp. in the last few weeks. A ton of problems people are having after a recent update of Adobe CC program or programs. I see blame being tossed everywhere, and this doesn't look like it's going to die down and go away by itself.
    Just my .02, but...
Every major OS upgrade is going to throw off problems with 3rd party (and even 1st party) software as developers identify and squash bugs and incompatibilities - this can take months to work itself out. And is a predicable outcome from having multiple programmers working independently on anything that works together.
Rolling back an OS is often not a viable option. Rolling back a software update is usually easier. Messing about with lots of moving parts can easily compound a problem. So can skipping a step in a complicated set of instructions or following the wrong set of instructions.
A recommendation based on my personal opinion & 20+ years of experience: Don't try to roll back Mavericks, but do roll back to the previous version of CC (before 7.1). If you use Time Machine (and it ran after the Mavericks upgrade and before the CC 7.1 update), this should be pretty easy to do.
Take the time to first make a complete & manual backup of your system to an external drive (if you've got the money, a clone of your hard drive, otherwise an image of your hard drive on something other than your internal hard drive), and a separate live backup of your personal files on an external drive. Just in case...
If you don't/didn't use Time Capsule or the above didn't solve the problem, then you might need to consider one of two options:
Uninstall CC completely, and install CC 'one version' prior to the one that gave you problems. So if you're using Pr 7.1, go back to 7.0. Here's instructions on how to completely remove CC: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html and here's instructions for how to get an older version of a CC program: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/download-previous-versions-creative-applications. html or http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=98&platform=Macintosh
Rollback the OS to Mountain Lion, but recognize this isn't a trivial exercise and may result in compounding problems, esp. if you ignore a first step of taking a complete backup and/or don't follow the instructions to the letter. Here's a tutorial: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6162
Here's a related thread (one of many) with useful info: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5983648#5983648
Like brain surgery (which I've had!), results can vary from one system to another, and you need to own treating every computer as a unique entity. It's hard to exactly replicate a problem even with identical hardware and software/OS. That's another way of saying that all of this is not an iron-clad fix for your problems (my disclaimer) - use at your own risk.
And when you're out of the heat of the moment, please take this opportunity to learn the lesson of backup (that 97% of computer users haven't), and recognize that Time Machine is so very worthwhile to have in your wheelhouse.
Those of us in production environments (or not) can certainly choose to play the blame game, but imo these problems are a result of all our choices:
Apple for not allowing more extensive beta testing
Adobe for not taking full advantage of said beta testing
Power/production users for upgrading anything in a production environment before a) enough time has gone by that show-stopper problems are both identified and resolved and/or b) deploying on a non-production machine and fully testing before trying it out on a production machine.
Being in a production environment to me equates to balancing a need for current software/features against having a stable working environment. I generally put more emphasis on the latter. This is another lesson to learn once you're beyond the heat of the moment and to then keep in your wheelhouse.
    And please Adobe:
Own the problem (even if you don't publicly admit it here or anywhere else - I'm personally fine with that)
Don't point fingers, it stirs a pot not worth stirring
Figure out the problem and fix it! It's gonna take time, so please get started if you haven't already.
Giving us progress updates would be nice, but if that's too hard or reputationally risky, skip that but keep working on fixing the problem. Please?

  • AFP won't connect since upgrading to Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks I cannot connect to my QNAP TS-210 via AFP; this means my Time Machine can no longer find my backup disk and no longer works. Anyone else having similar issues?
I have tried the usual quick fixes:
    Firmware is up to date
    All OS updates installed
    Server reset
    DHCP renewed
DHCP switched to try manual setup
IP changed on server and Mac
It's odd as when connecting to server I can enter my login ID and it seems to be validating it ok but then doesnt connect to the server at all?
    Any suggestions welcome!

Use a supported Time Machine configuration.
OS X Mountain Lion: Disks you can use with Time Machine
"Note: Some AFP disks from manufacturers other than Apple don’t support Time Machine. If your network uses an AFP disk, but the disk doesn’t appear in the list of devices available for Time Machine backups, contact the disk’s manufacturer."
Your complaint is very common with NAS devices. Some work and some don't. If they appear to work, they may fail upon attempting to restore from the backup, or they may fail every time Apple updates OS X. Given the goal of a backup strategy, using anything other than a supported TM configuration is not an option.
