FontBook not installing fonts w/o logout

I'm running Snow Leopard on a 2009 17" MacBook Pro. Whenever I try to add a new font to FontBook it doesn't show up until I log out and log back in. Needless to say this is annoying.
Anyone have a similar problem or fix?
Thanks!

I wish I had your problem — I can't even access tons of my PS 1 fonts, though FontBook shows them. They are not accessible in any CS4 program or any MS Office 2008 program — my livelihood depends on hundreds and hundreds well designed documents, none works now!
Can't find any answers.

  • Why can I not install fonts? Office for Mac will not recognize them?

My wife and I tried many times to install several fonts that we could use in Microsoft Office for Mac. Even though it said they were installed in the Mac, we could not see them in Word. We are new to the Apple products. We are not novice computer users, just novice Mac users. The font book shows them installed. We tried to choose several of the font families to add the fonts to. We could not see them there either. My wife does some foreign correspondence and likes to use pretty script fonts (TTF). Please help if you can.
    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    Sorry also not.
I signed in to the App Store (and to itunes store just to make sure) with both my apple ids but i do not have the sub- section 'Hidden Purchases' within 'Itunes in the cloud' section. I guess I do not have hidden purchases then...
More interestingly: I checked the 'Top Charts' section in the AppStore and under category 'Top Free' all the iWork stuff (Numbers, Keynote, pages etc) shows up! But it has a price (e.g. numbers = 2000Yen) underneath... very strange.
Somewhat the app store knows that it should be free for me but the price is not displayed as 'Free'...
    Help please.

PD. Como instalo fuentes (fuentes presentes en la verrsión anterior) para la nueva versión?

Yes Pages 5 is very different and has many features and templates missing.
You do not install fonts in Pages, you install them in the System. Purchase/Download them and double click on them to install.
The manual for Pages 5 is online. Click on the link under the Help menu.

  • Fonts not installing on FontBook after OS X Yosemite upgrade

After I installed OS X Yosemite, I open FontBook to install new fonts. The font installation windows appears (Validating, Installing, etc.) but then it disappears and none of the fonts installs. Is anybody else experiencing this problem?
    I'm on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

I actually looked elsewhere for an answer and found I had to download the Adobe Creative Cloud to successfully download Acrobat Pro.
As a new Adobe user, it is a pretty poor that (a) there is not a full installation guide catering to all user levels and (b) Adobe still seem unaware of the problem judging by the responses to my original post and (c) ACC is another pay monthly option over and above Pro 11.
Forgive me if this is obvious to experienced Adobe users, it is not to me.

  • Newly installed Font not showing up in Illustrator. Can anyone shed some light as to why?

    Hello All,
I've recently installed .otf version of New Century Schoolbook into FontBook. It's working fine in all my other Adobe programs (CS6 CC) but for some reason, it just doesn't seem to want to work inside of Illustrator.
Can anyone give me a hand getting this font up and running?
    Running Mac OSX 10.7
Ai CS6 - Up to date
Thank you so much in advance.

Have a feeling the alphabetical order may strange like mine on that font. Did they tag the menu name to have Adobe bur invisible, not sure.  Also Check for the calssic menu name not matching font name of "ITC New Century Schoollbook".

  • Installing fonts -- FontBook can't see TT fonts from pre-X

I've just made the migration over from a 9.1 iMac (I've been broke, so sue me ), and when I went to install fonts from my old Mac's collection, FontBook can't understand TrueType fonts that are wandering around "naked", IE files not in font suitcases; also, it seems confused by suitcases that contain more than one family, whether TT's or T1 bitmaps. Since this is how I organized the bulk of my pre-X collection, am I doomed to firing up the old iMac one last time to sort out the mess, or is there simply something I'm not doing the way that OS X expects it? (Which already wouldn't be the first time, given that I go back to System 7.0... )
    Mini G4 1.42   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   1 gig/ComboDrive

I'm no expert... but i do have over 2000 fonts on my system (only about 250 are active)... BUT, i've been told to stay away (far away) from TT fonts with system 10.x This probably isn't what you wanted to hear... but you will avoid probs if you stick to Postecript level 1 & 2 fonts.
ALSO, there are about 5 different places that system 10.x puts / stores fonts... BE CAREFUL. getting used to font managed is more complicated now.
I'm having a different issue with fonts, as i use a ton of them , but i'll save that for another posting
    hope this helps... sorry.

  • Installed fonts not showing up in Font Book or other apps

I am having an issue where fonts will install, but not show up in Font Book.
I go into Font Book, go to File > Add Fonts..., navigate to a font file and click Open, the validating and installing windows will flash by, but the font will not appear in the list of All Fonts. The file will show up in ~/Library/Fonts/, but not in Font Book or any other apps.
Any clues as to what the issue is and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

I had thought of that, but they literally are nowhere to be found in the All Fonts list. I've looked through the entire list, as well as searching for the font, but nothing.
The Windows font was a font was a completely separate family not found on my Mac at all.
I tried installing different set of fonts (ran them through the Validator and then clicking install when they all checked out), and got the following in the console:

  • Launching MS Office for Mac 2011: "Font is not Installed" errors

Message Microsoft (MSOffice).app wants to use the font "xxx". This font is not installed. Allow Microsoft(whatever).app to use this font? show in finder, don't allow, allow. happens with all Office apps, runs through entire font library.
about 3 months ago this started - not sure what I did to kick it off, but now whenever I try to use a Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 app it runs through the series of fonts and asks me to do something. I can go through one at a time and select 'don't ask me again' and 'allow' or 'don't allow' but I'd rather figure out (and solve) the problem. Any ideas?

  • Installed fonts not showing up in PSE 11

I have installed fonts that are not showing up in PSE 11.  Any suggestions?  It's driving me crazy!!

    Windows 7 Home Premium.
The font is Wanderlust Letters Extra Regular
It's weird because I also installed Wanderlust Letters Regular, which shows up just fine.
Is it possible I have too many fonts installed for PSE 11 to detect?  I have 1000+
Thanks in advance for your help!!

  • Why are my fonts are not installing in ox6 it shows as exec?

Why are my fonts are not installing in ox6 it shows as exec?

Are you referring to an icon that looks like a monitor and has the word exec in green on it? If so, that's OS X's way of saying "I have no idea what this file is".
I'm guessing you're trying to use an incompete Type 1 PostScript font. Type 1 PostScript fonts are a set. One file is a suitcase containing all of the low res bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts. As an example, here's Adobe Garamond.
    Adobe Garamond
    AGarBol
    AGarBolIta
    AGarIta
    AGarReg
    AGarSem
    AGarSemIta
The first file which I highlighted in green is the font suitcase of bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts.
    1) The files for a Type 1 PostScript font must have both the screen and printer fonts for a given set in order to work. They also must be in the same folder.
    2) The suitcase of bitmap fonts will work alone, but output will be terrible since the system will print the fonts using the 72 dpi screen fonts in the suitcase if the outline portions are missing.
    3) Having only the outline fonts will not work. You can see the fonts, but they will not load. That's not a problem with Font Book, Suitcase or other font manager. None of them, nor the system itself will load outline fonts from a Type 1 PostScript font without the matching suitcase of screen fonts present.

  • HT201375 Has anyone found a solution to the "Mavericks will not install new fonts" Issue? Has apple even admitted it yet?

Question is simple enough, Oh and by the way, my system is NOT what this forum page has decided to tell me that it is (no way evident to change it).

    Hi Arthur,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
    1. I am glad your Mavericks doesn't have the problem. I am sure there are a lot of Mavericks out there that don't have the problem, and yes, you are correct, I, along with ALL of the other people that are complaing of this problem all over the internet, including this support forum itself, are having problems with our own Mavericks installations.
    2. Agreed, Apple doesn't have a good track record of admitting to the bugs in its Operationg Systems, but don't worry, Microsoft is just as bad. Technology is about making money after all.
    3. Thanks for the instructions for updating my profile.
    4. I took the precaution of removing all of my data from this machine. and wiped its harddrive.
I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard (the OS it came with), upgraded to Mountain Lion, and then upgraded to Mavericks before doing anything at all to the machine, and before installing anything on it.
So with this Fresh, brand new install of Mavericks (I dont trust upgrades - for good reason) I installed Open Office, Adobe Creative Suit CS6, Google Chrome, Filezilla, Firefox and Thunderbird, and Microsoft Remote Desktop client.
    That's it.
The font that will not install is any of the fonts from the Univers family.
We have had this font in our office for the seven years I have worked there. It installs fine on all Macs from Tiger (10.4) to Mountain Lion (10.8) (I have just finished tesing this on a number of these machines).
We have one other mavericks machine but this font was already installed on it when it was upgraded from Mountain Lion to Mavericks so it works.

This is a lot more information than has been provided by almost all of the other posts on all the forums I have been reading about this problem, and most of the posts have a lot of people chiming in saying,
"It works fine for me, so it must not be a problem".
Not a lot of help has been forthcoming for the others in this same situation that I have been reading of, and most are resorting to Third Party Programs in an attempt to get fonts installed, all with varying degrees of success.
I am not willing to use a third party program to do something the operationg system should be able to do itself.
I have tried pasting the fonts themselves into all of the various fonts folders in the OS, to no avail.
I will be very interested to hear what you make of the information I have supplied.
Thank you again for your reply. I look forward to hearing back from you.

  • Font Will Not Install

I work for a catalog company and we use the Adobe CS3 suite. After a machine meltdown I had to reinstall my system OS and Tiger Upgrade. After doing so and running one of my catalog pages in indesign I received a ton of missing font errors. While I was able to go to the archives and load some of these fonts, others that We have used in the past(and they have to be used because they are used for product titles) will not install. I open font book and click on add fonts, but when I navigate to the folder that has the font i need(transfered from a server to my hard drive) that font is ghosted out to where i can not select it. One Example is Eurostile Bold Oblique
    thanks
    DF

I'm guessing your example of Eurostile Bold Oblique is a printer outline font from a Type 1 PostScript font. If so, you don't have the whole font. Type 1 PostScript fonts are a set. One file is a suitcase containing all of the low res bitmap screen fonts. The rest are the outline printer fonts. As an example, here's Adobe Garamond.
    Adobe Garamond
    AGarBol

    3) Having only the outline fonts will not work. You will get exactly what you are having problems with. You can see the fonts, but they will not load. That's not a problem with Font Book, Suitcase or other font manager. None of them, nor the system itself will load outline fonts without the matching suitcase of screen fonts present.

  • Can Custom skin download font if not installed?

    Hi
I have an ADF BC application written in JDev 10.1.3. It uses a customer skin so our various customers can implement their own look and feel. One of our customers requested the Futura font which worked fine on my PC because I have the futura font installed but when I deployed it to the custoemr the skin reverted to a different font because Futura was not installed on their PC.
Is it possible to have an ADF page download a font if it cannot find it installed?
I found this html code which is supposed to achieve that
    <STYLE TYPE="text-css">
    @font-face (
    font-family:familyName;
    font-style:normal;
    font-weight:normal;
    src:url("someFont.eot") )
    </STYLE>
Is it possible to integrate the above code into an ADF page?
    thanks
    paul

    Hi
    Thanks for the replies.
I read the link that Frank posted and read a little bit around the subject of web fonts. It seems that this feature is not widely supported by browsers and indeed I am using FF2 and could not get John's suggestion to work. Our customer uses primarily IE and FF and it seems that this feature is not currently supported by either of those browsers. IE only allows use of the EOT font format and FF3.5 supports web fonts but is still in beta.
It doesn't look like we are going to be able to implement this feature for our customer so I might have to ask them to select a [web safe font|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_safe_fonts]
    thanks

  • Iweb says font in not installed.

I have a serious problem with iWeb. One of the sites I have made (and which runs for a few years now) uses the Skia font which is installed on my OSX 10.6.8 system. I use it often in all kinds of documents. Today I want to update a few pages in that website, I open up iWeb and get the msg that the Skia regular font is not installed. But it is; like it has always been. No problems in Pages, in Photoshop etc. I turned it on and off in the Fontmanager (not sure if it is called that way in the english version, but I mean the standard fonttool in OSX). The only thing I can think off is that in cleaning my fontlibraries (which I did some time ago) I have thrown away another (double) version of the Skia font and iWeb wants that other version.
I can manually update all the text fields on all of the 50 (or so) pages, but I don't know what fields are in Skia and what in some other font, which means the risk that I mess up the whole site.
Is there a way to solve this problem; some programs give the option to choose an alternative font when a used type is not installed, but I can't find an option like that in iWeb.
    Who can help me ?

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
You do know that Skia is not one of the Web Safe Fonts and will look different on computers that do not have that font installed, particularly PCs, right?.  It could change the look of the entire page.

  • Font Problems: Installed fonts are showing as un-installed in CS6 and are not avaliable to use.

    Hi,
Installed fonts in the Windows folder(which have been installed for agaes), are now not showing up in Illustrator CS6 since we have installed the suite. The font name shows in the box, but it has an astericks next to it. It is getting annoying not being able to use our regular fonts, as other people from different companies send us their artwork to change, and we can't display the fonts in the file, dispite them beiong "installed" into the system. We have tried re-installing them , and this ocassionaly works once, but when illustrator is re-installed or computer is re-started...they go back to being "unavaliable.
Please help! Is this a common bug in CS6? It is driving the whole team crazy!

Delete the system's font cache and any adbefnt.lst files you may find. Also make sure to run with sufficient user privileges.
