Fonts Copyrighted?

Are fonts on Photoshop Elements (and for that matter, other common computer programs that come with fonts) copyrighted or trademarked? Also, if they are, what would that mean as far as my use of them? I am looking to sell images that some of these fonts are on. I understand that as long as I do it on a small scale, it probably will not matter either way. That said, I like to make sure my tracks are covered, plus I am simply curious about the specific legal restrictions to using most fonts that are not made by you.

Thank you so much

Are all these fonts really free for commercial use?
As far as we know, yes. Please read the license on each font before you use them to be sure. And if you happen to find one that you think doesn't allow it, then please tell us.

I don't have a specific answer to your question because I don't know where you are getting your fonts from.  It is just a matter of reading all the documents you get with the fonts.
Hope this helps.

  • Copyright font too small on Export

    Is there any way to increase the size of the copyright font on Export? It's really tiny. BTW Using 2.0 beta, but I hope its the same as 1.4.

    Jao :Thanks for the help,and sorry for the shouting and misunderstanding , but this one is an issue LR should have fix long time ago. In the preliminary times before LR was sold to the public,one could actually call on the fonts and fonts size from within templates and increase the font size a little bit ,then it was taken away. I feel lucky to have save one of the Metadata presets from the early stages (Beta) Copy it and move it in to the new LR and it works better than what we got available right now

  • Add Control over Copyright Watermark Font

    Now with the V1.3 we got the nice export size option based on longer/shorter image size, and I could stop to use additional resizing step upon export.
    With one exception: The Watermark added by Lightroom is too huge for my taste. And I used to generate (say) twice bigger image, and resize it than to a smaller dimension. By doing so, the watermark got also scaled down in size.

    I had my copyright watermark working nicely in my web exports after tweaking my fonts using
    Jeffreys Lightroom Configuration Manager. However in the upgrade to 1.2 or 1.3 I lost my settings, and haven't been able to get it the right size since. So I'm left adding it outside of LR (dumb hassle) or leaving it off altogether (less than ideal). I hope it's possible to make an export plugin that will give control over some sort of watermark for export, but hopefully in time the watermark ability will grow from the print and slideshow modules into the web and export ones...

  • Using fonts not copyrighted By Adobe.

    Hi people,
    I'm making a phonetics book with Adobe Indesign CS5 and to transcribe the phonetics I need to use Phonetic Ox font. However Phonetic Ox font is a font that Adobe doesn't have any copy rights. When making the documents, Adobe allows me to create text using the non-copyrighted font. However it warns me that when the document will be converted to PDF, the Phonetic Ox font will be missing because of copyright issues.
    I bought the phonetic software about 15 years ago from Linguistics Software Inc, it is on a floppy disk!!! and as part of the price I am allowed to use their fonts in commercial ventures such as publishing.
    At present I am reduced to creating the text, in Phonetic Ox font on Microsoft Word (WordArt), developing the font in Adobe Illustrator as an image and placing the final image on my Adobe Indesign document  as an object.
    Is there anyway that I can use the font as text, rather than as an object, and that when I finally convert my Adobe Indesign Book to a PDF format, the Phonetic OX font will appear in the PDF version?
    Thanks in advance.

    How do you embed a font into AID, similar to the way you embed a new font in your office system?

  • Can't seem to insert a copyright symbol from any font into a Photoshop document

    - NOT a meta data question --
    I merely want to insert a copyright symbol, in text. I am designing the reverse side of a postcard for printing, it is all text layers, and need to indicate a copyright.
    I can not seem to find this symbol in any of the character sets of the multitudinous fonts I own. Nor have I found any easy way to see the character sets of these fonts. Must I create this as an image and import? Surely there is a more simple solution?
    At this point, I will accept the symbol in any font whatsoever.
    Thank you!

    Also open International Pref Pane. Check "Show input menu in menu bar" at bottom of the Input Menu tab window. Among the keyboard layouts, input methods and palettes turn on the Character Palett and Keyboard Viewer. Now they will be available from a menu extra near the clock.

  • Ideal copyright font?

    is there an ideal font for showing copyright stamp on images in cs5

    I like to "ghost" my © symbol, by lowering its Opacity, and also doing a bit of an Emboss. I use Arial Black, and at a pretty large size (depends on the resolution of the Image), and I also place in the middle of the Image. That allows a viewer to see the entire Image, pretty clearly, but makes it tough to remove, though certainly not impossible with some work.
    As Pete.Green points out, there is no one "ideal font," and even the details of your Image might dictate what works for you.
    Good luck, and just experiment,
    Hunt

    These machines in themselves are usually pretty good, with the occasional aberration. Let's hope you do not have a rogue.
    Looking at the problems there seem to me (as a guess) two problems: incomplete processes and memory. The two may be related. The camera problem I would dismiss as simply that -- batteries run out and the Mac is trying to complete an impossible process: expecting data, data never arrives.
    The Firefox problem may be something external: a badly coded page; something the browser (or Mac) was not equipped to handle (a plug-in for example) and this could put a strain on RAM.
    Maya, I am not familiar with, but it is (if I remember rightly) graphics-oriented and that can be memory intensive).
    Which all comes down to the RAM you bought. Without knowing what it is or where it came from, or your experience in installing it, that in itself could be a problem. You need to make sure that it is properly seated for one thing, that it is the correct type (although the information here suggests that you are on the right track) and that it is OK.
    You might also want to think about posting a crash log here (find these in Console) as someone -- not me -- might be able to pinpoint a cause.

  • Font's Copyright

    Dear All,
    I am a german student and I am developing a website for a comercial use.
    Here is my question:
    Can I use the font "Zapfino" on the logo of the website? This font was preinstalled on my "MacBook Pro 15" early 2011". When I press " cmd + I " to see the copyrights information says: "Copyright (c) 1999-2002, Linotype Library GmbH & affiliates. All rights reserved"
    Thank you in advance,

  • Adobe Fonts used in logo design and copyright laws

    Hi, if you are using an Adobe design software such as Illustrator, Flash or Fireworks to create a logo or banner for use as print and or web where it includes Adobe font in the logo and the characters create words ie; the trading name of the business do you need to approach Adobe for permission to use the fonts or is it expected considering the software is for graphical creations?

    Why are we now saying that Photoshop can be used for logos? And what is wrong with CorelDraw? For someone who does not want to argue, it seems odd that an argument is happening within their own posts. :)
    The ideal logo design tool offers versatile vector path editing tools and spot color swatch capability. Logo designers generally use Freehand, Illustrator, or CorelDraw... which all offer these abilities.

  • Are fonts in Adobe/Microsoft copyrighted?

    I was wondering if anybody knows for certain if fonts included in Adobe and Microsoft programmes are free?  For example, I am designing a logo for a company.  Can I use one of the fonts on Illustrator, eg. "Baskerville Old Face" without somebody saying I nicked the font?  Are all the preinstalled fonts allowed to be used by anybody for anything?
    Thank you.

    What do you mean by free?
    If you mean by free that they are public domain and that you can do anything you want with them, no, they are not free!
    In the case of fonts that are bundled with Adobe applications, you may use those fonts on the computer on which you have installed the software with which the fonts are bundled. You may embed such fonts in PDF, EPS, and PostScript files generated by that software and distribute said PDF, EPS, and PostScript files to others for display and print. For example, you may use Myriad Pro Bold (bundled with the Creative Suite programs) in a logo, export the logo to PDF, and distribute that PDF version of the logo to the entire world for them to view, print, or even use the logo as part of another creative work.
    However, you may absolutely not distribute or use the fonts otherwise. For example, you cannot simply give the font files to a friend.
    Similar restrictions apply to fonts distributed by Microsoft either as part of Windows or with their applications such as Microsoft Office.

  • Font with P in circle needed (like copyright symbol)

    I know, this is quite OT, but I am looking for a font that has a P in a circle. All my fonts have the well known C in a circle, a lot of fonts also have an R in a circle, but I need a P in a circle! Up to now I always made the symbol manually (several ways to get that done) but the big problem is that it's hard to change the size of that manually fabricated P symbol.
    So, does anyone here know a (if possible freeware) font that has a P in a circle?

    Combinumerals99 also has... along with the complete alphabet and other numbers in circles with sister fonts available in ovals or squares, reverses, etc.

  • Map Title/Copyright font size settings

    Does anyone know how to set the font size/color etc for the map title. i.e. This can be set in the client side by:
    MapViewer.setMapTitle("my title");
    Then theres the MapViewer config, e.g:
    <global_map_config>
    <note text="local"
    font="sans serif"
    position="NORTH_EAST"/>
    <title text="MapViewer Demo"
    font="Serif"
    position="SOUTH" />
    <logo image_path="C:\\images\\a.gif"
    position="NORTH" />
    <rendering allow_local_adjustment="false"
    use_globular_projection="false" />
    </global_map_config>
    But I cant figure out how to specify the font size and color.
    Anyone know?
    Regards
    Tim

    Hi Tim,
    You can not customize all text settings for footnotes and titles at this time. We wil create an enhancement request to address this in future versions. Thanks.

  • Export web fonts for copyright watermark

    I'm rebranding my photography website in Muse. I'm using a web font for the name of my business. I want to use the name as a watermark and have it match the website for consistent branding. What's the best way to do this? I used a screen capture but that's less than ideal. thank you.
    [Moved from the generic Cloud forum to the specific Program forum... Mod]

    You should be able to use that same font in any of the Adobe Creative Cloud programs. So you can add the watermark to your images with Photoshop or Lightroom.

  • Aperture book copyright question!

    Hey...I was wondering if it would be allowed to make Aperture books and resell them....obviously if I do not own the copyright then I a cannot...but let's say I take a bunch of pics of my hometown and make a book and ask Apple for copies of this book...would I be allowed to sell it then?

    Your images, your work, your creation -> your copyright. Aperture is just a tool and the printing service is just a service. If you write a novel using Microsoft Word, you still own the copyright and Microsoft has no rights over your work, no matter how many fancy fonts and formatting features you use. Aperture is no different.
    I'm sure Apple would love you to sell as many copies as you can - especially if you are using their printing service. At worst, they sell more printing services to you as you buy more books. At best, your customers are so impressed that they use Aperture or iPhoto to print books themselves, and Apple sells lots more books.
