Fonts Distorted in Safari

I recently installed a lot of new fonts that I downloaded.
My Mac is running fine, yet ever sense when I go to certain websites (not every site) the fonts are distorted and weird.
It looks as if each letter is a different font and you can't read it.
I'm assuming I changed some kind of setting?
Help please.
Jonathan

Hi
The two fonts that seem to adversely affect Safari are Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic.
Open the Finder: open Font Book in your Applications folder. Enter either of these names in the spotlight panel. If either appears, disable it via the Edit menu. If neither is in your system, please provide a screenshot of the font type.
If the above referenced fonts applies to your situation, download a copy of Font Nuke. This will allow you to clean the Font cache.
When done cleaning the Font cache, restart the computer/Safari.

  • Bold Font issues in Safari

Since installing leopard on my Mac Pro Quad my safari highlight font has changed to a really Black Condensed font like Helvetica Compressed or Inserat, not sure which, and the letterspacing is really tight making it illegible most of the time.
I can’t read most of the headlines etc... on most sites when the text is below 20pt.
Please help cant work out why!!!
It doesn’t do it in Camino etc.. just Safari!

Fixed it now found so older forum fixes.
I completely removed all the fonts from my suitcase which cleared any font conflicts rebooted safari and suitcase and it didn’t fix it. But restarted the Mac and it did so make sure you reboot the machine afterwards!

  • Visio 2010 EMF in word 2007 fonts distorted in PDF

    Hello Participants,
I am experiencing an issue with some Visio images not rendering correctly in my PDF. I created the images in Visio 2010 and saved as EMF. Then I inserted them into my Word 2007 document and generated a PDF.
One of my images renders great, the other one has some font distortion going on. Can anyone point me to some settings that could resolve this issue?
Thanks so much for your help on this matter.
    Z.

My two bits for what they are worth. I used AA9 for the conversion. When I printed to the Adobe PDF printer, the text came out crisp. When I used PDF Maker, I got the same poor fonts view I think you refer too. However, I think it in part goes back to the graphic you used. When I look at the page in WORD 2007, the fonts do not look that good either.
I did observe that it may be the scaling you have done in WORD -- a typical problem with the view of bitmaps. The size of the 1st one is 51% and the 2nd one is 59%. If you can scale the figures in VISIO so that they will be 100% in WORD that may help. What is strange is that printing to the Adobe PDF printer gave a nice result. So it appears to be related to a PDFMaker issue.
An additional factor is that Adobe PDF printer seemed to retain the information as a vector graphic (you can select the individual parts) and yet PDF Maker seemed to convert the graphic to a bitmap. How much of that is Acrobat and how much is MS screwing thing up I do not know (I only say this from past experience with graphics in WORD 2007 that was not a problem with WORD 2003).
As a last resort, I exported the graphics to an EMF and imported into Adobe Illustrator. I think clipped each one into a new WORD file as EMF files (Paste Special) and then ran PDF Maker. This time they came out fine. I think a good part of the problem is how the VISIO files are importing to WORD. That has long been a problem. I my opinion, MS bought VISIO and messed up a great product, causing problems like this.
Maybe some of my comments will help the Adobe team to trace the issue. I know that VISIO files embedded in WORD have long been problems. I do not have a best work flow when using VISIO, but clipping from VISIO does not seem to work well. I hope that some of may wandering analysis here is helpful. I have just been commenting as I have tried things.

  • Setting default font size in Safari

Hi. I like to set my font size in Safari to one level below the default. I usually do this everytime I open up a Safari window and hit Command+Minus or go to View > make text smaller. Anyway, I was wondering if there was a way I could set this to default so I did not have to do it everytime I launched Safari?

    mrurmil --
You can go into the main Safari Menu, (upper left of top Menu)
    Go to Preferences>Advanced
and then lower the size font designated in
"Never use font sizes smaller than _"
Mine's set to 9 which is pretty small,
but I like it better. I believe it was set to 11 or 12 natively.
    Hope this helps.

  • Odd font issue with Safari, iWeb

Ok, so I've been having this odd font issue with Safari for quite a while now, and I haven't been able to fix it. Some text on several different websites come up in a different font than the default font for Safari. I've tried changing the default font to something else, changing the text encoding and nothing. This has been happening with several releases of Safari.
Now, last night I discovered the same thing is happening with iWeb. Some of the text fields come up with the same font as the one in Safari! I don't even know which font it is. So somehow these are linked.
I'm at work right now, but I can get a screen shot of the font once I get home.
Any ideas on how to remedy this?

Hi Tom, thanks for the response. I tried searching for those two fonts in my font book and they weren't in there. See below for screen shots of the odd text I'm getting:
    iWeb
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    Safari
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If anyone can help resolve I'd greatly appreciate it. As much as I like Safari, this odd font makes me close Safari after a few mins of browsing =\

  • Font issue with Safari

I've read of others having font issues with Safari 5.1 and Lion, but I still have Snow Leopard and am having an issue with some fonts showing as a block of As. This occurred when I set up Suitcase Fusion 3, but I did not touch any system fonts. I was able to solve part of the issue with activating Arial in the font manager, but some areas still do not reveal font, most notably, areas marked for username/password on forms. Any ideas?  Btw, I do not seem to have a problem in Chrome or Firefox.

Thanks, Carolyn. I use a third party font manager but disabling it is not an answer for me. I put some fonts back into the user folder (never touched the fonts in the system library) and resolved SOME of the "A" issues, but not all. I have no problem in Chrome or Firefox. I've tried multiple solutions in the past couple days, including this fix for sandboxing conflict http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20087102-263/webkit-sandboxing-conflict-cau ses-safari-block-a-font-problem/ but then I got permission errors when I tried to change the file. I'm not even running Lion and I'm having this issue.

  • Color Distortion in Safari 4.0.3

I scroll up and down and slowly bands of color start appearing. They almost look like highlights, but they get darker and darker.
Apparently, this isn't the first time anyone has had the problem, but the first complaint was archived unanswered.

    HI,
Run the Apple Hardware Test to make sure it isn't the graphics card.

Also, go to the Apple Menu / Software Updates. Make sure your system software is up to date.

  • How to increase font size on Safari browser itself?

    Hello All
I have been using my iMac for only a couple of weeks now, but during that time I have searched high and low for a setting to adjust the size of the font on the Safari browser - NOT the text on the web pages it displays (I figured that bit out!), the text on the actual browser frame itself e.g. the bookmark title, the titles displayed on the tabs etc
I also have not figured out how to increase the size of the text on the navigation bar at the top of my iMac where all of the available options for the program in use are displayed (file, edit, view and so forth)...
I am very pleased with the Mac overall, but the issue of these tiny weeny text sizes on the Mac navigation systems is a problem - anyone with real eyesight troubles would certainly be in a pickle!
Hopefully someone here will know what to do - I guess I just haven't found the secret yet!
    Thanks!

    Greetings,
Sorry, but you can't change the size of the fonts or the menus in application windows. They aren't that small, so if you have trouble seeing them, you can use the Zoom feature of Universal Access to enlarge everything you move your mouse over. It's in System Preferences.

  • How can I increase default font size in Safari?

I know about doing a reverse "pinch" of the screen to increase font size in Safari, but is there a way to set a larger default font size?

    Hey there,
See if one of these pages can help.

how can i increase the font size on Safari and email so my mother who is legally blind in left eye, right eye 50% vision.  r there any apple product specifically for the blind?

From the Safari menu bar click View > Zoom In  or press Command + on the keyboard to increase the size of the page.
If that doesn't help, open System Preferences > Accessibilty > Settings then select Zoom on the left.
You can also increase the resolution on the dislplay. System Preferences > Displays > Display > Scaled
You can also get help by posting in the Apple Support Communities > Vision forum here.

  • Font Issue in Safari after Migration Assistant Upgrade

I just used Migration Assistant to move from an old Mac Pro tower to a new Mac Pro trash can (chose not to transfer Applications) and most everything is fine except for a strange font issue in Safari. Safari doesn't seem to render Helvetica. Instead I get this:
Chrome seems to render it fine. I was using FontExplorer X to manage fonts on the previous machine so perhaps that is part of the problem (I didn't transfer applications and have not bothered to install it on the new machine yet).
I tried clearing the font cache and repairing permissions as noted in this article, but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

Applications/Font Book and validate your fonts.

  • How to increase minimum font size in Safari 7

Is there a way to configure the minimum font size in Safari 7 as there was in Safari 6?  It's not in the Advanced section of Preferences as it used to be.  Thanks.

You don't have a box marked Never use font sizes smaller than... ?

  • How do i make the font on my safari toolbar bigger

i just purchased an iMac and the font on the safari bookmark menu is too small.  How do I change it?

While you can increase the size of the font your web browser displays a font with (look under the Advanced tab of Preferences) you cannot resize the menubar or menu items. You can change the resolution by selecting Displays in the System Preferences and clicking on the scaled item. From there you can choose a different screen resolution. However, unlike old CRT displays, LCDs have a single 'native' resolution and everything else is a derivation which may or may not be entirely clear. You may also find that some programs won't run well in the lower resolutions.

  • Having Font Issues In Safari After Upgrading To Leopard

So...i'm having some font issues in Safari after upgrading to Leopard....
It works fine on my desktop but not on my laptop. They both run on Leopard.
Also, it works in Firefox but not Safari.
Here's some screens of what it looks like. This only pertains to any site that uses this font and it isn't uncommon, (sites like google, yahoo, and the WoW Forums)
    http://i21.tinypic.com/1z6cwsx.jpg
zoom in to see what i'm talking about, it's really messed up on the full screen

Anyways...any idea on how I can fix this?

I disabled the stencil font and deleted it. No luck here.
I ran a font validation check and this is what showed up, don't know if this means anything.

  • 10.6.2 update - the graphics distortion in Safari Top Sites is not Fixed!

I felt so relieved after updating- 10.6.2, because the annoying graphics distortion in safari when clicking top sites is gone.. gone for about 1 day only. && now its happening again! IDK why??? i installed the update correctly. && about this mac says i have the version 10.6.2.
is anybody here experiencing this? ( apple has to work on this. its annoying! )
oh! another prob. too! THE START UP SLOW DOWN!? -before it takes 32 or 34 sec to boot up. Now with 10.6.2 installed it takes about 50 sec. to boot up. well i don't mind waiting for another 15 sec. - i just wanna know why.

    Hello lyon09,
Unfortunately i have not yet made it to the Genius Bar as of yet. I ended up canceling the appointment i re-scheduled too and haven't made another one. Basically, i was only gonna go in just because i said the Battery gave me a "Service Battery" error message, which means that "the battery isn’t functioning normally, and you may or may not notice a change in its behavior or the amount of charge it holds. Have your computer checked by an Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer."
So that was gonna be my main reason for going in there, and at that time discussing and showing him what Top Sites is doing to me.
    1. Top Sites has a distorted graphics that have been there since 10.6 came out....10.6.1 was supposed to fix it, did not....then 10.6.2 was supposed to fix it, and as of right now it still is not fixed.
I have done an Archive & Install with no success.
    2. Battery showed me that Service Battery error message just that one evening. My battery was drained completely and when i plugged it in and got it working again, the Service Battery error was there for about 45 minutes or so until it got a sufficient charge it decided it would go away. I haven't seen it since.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/20865.html
It has now been about a week since i last saw that message.
That was my main reason for canceling the Genius Bar appointment, because the battery seems to be working for the time being. If i see that message again though, then i won't hesitate to take it in.
I'm starting to wonder now though, should i just take it in anyways. Because if i saw that message, on the battery, and they need to replace that - then if there is some other reason for the distorted graphics in Top Sites, like maybe the Logic Board....then i want to get it fixed. It's under warranty for 3 years.
I just haven't found reason other than having that fluke Service Battery message to go in and have it checked out. If my video gets really whacked out or i see that battery message again, then i'll go promptly.
Does anybody else have any input on this? Thanks!
