Fonts for Book

I just finished a book and changed the fonts to fonts that are not used in any of the book themes. I saved a PDF copy of the book and the fonts look OK. Can I be sure that these fonts will appear OK in my ordered book? Thanks for any info on this.

  • Licensing fonts for use in publishing books.

    Hello everyone,
I was reading the forums here and I see a lot of questions concerning licensing of fonts with some very competent people replying. I'm hoping that someone can clarify my position regarding font licensing.
I'm a new small publisher in the UK, and intend to make print on demand books via Lightning Source. I hadn't quite appreciated the scope of font licensing and want to make sure I get it right.
I need to purchase or license a font for use in the books I'll be publishing. The font will only be used on my computer for typesetting. The font will then be embedded in a non-editable PDF to go to Lightning Source, who only use the file to print physical copies of the book.
I will also be doing eBooks but these will NOT have any fonts embedded in them. I only make this clear because some licenses seem to differ if you're commercially selling an electronic file with the font embedded. The only file that will have it embedded is the PDF which is itself not sold, only used for printing.
I did read somewhere in these forums that all Adobe fonts are licensed for this.
If someone could please put my mind at rest as to what I need to buy I would be very grateful.
    Many thanks!

    Typescript,
I will also be doing eBooks but these will NOT have any fonts embedded in them.
Does this mean that the viewers will see their own (standard) fonts in the eBooks?

  • How can i install more korean fonts for mac book pro

    Hello
I recently purchased mac book pro.
Where and how can i install more korean fonts for mac book pro?
    thanks guys.

Do you really need more?  OS X comes with quite a few already: Gungseo, HeadlineA, Nanum Brush, Nanum Gothic, NanumMyungjo, Nanum Pen, PCMyungjo, PilGi, AppleGothic, AppleMyungjo
If so, just do a google search for korean unicode fonts.

  • HT5072 What is the default font for I-books author. I believe it is Helvetica 14. thanks/marv

What is the default font for I-books author, the one brest to choose so that book is readable om an i-pad. Is it Helvetica 14? How about the paragraph pf text that introduces each chapter (it is a larger font, I believe) Thanks.

It depends on the template and the part of the text.  Just click your mouse on the text and you should see the font name in the format bar at the top.

  • Change font for entire photo book?

    Hello,
I'm currently creating a new photo book in Aperture 3.4
I would like to change the font for the text boxes to something else.
Can this be done in one action/command?
Or is it possible to change the default font (and size) that is used?
I now have to change the font and size for every text box I want to use.
    Kind regards,
    emeu1

I have the same question: is there a way to globally change the font in a Aperture photo book?  Bumpity-bump-bump-bump.  Thank you.

  • Input Controls - is it possible to change the font for a combo box

I have an input Control combo box that is a mixture of english/chinese characters. In Webi I can view the chinese characters correctly if I change the font to MingLIU. Is it possible to change the font for an input control OR to set a default font?

I am a first-time user of the photo book application in iPhoto.
I also was a first-time user, so I started using it. Exploring the possibilities, learning my way around.
Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions someone might have.

  • Fonts for Interstate highways in Maps look like picture symbols.

Fonts for Interstate highways in Maps look like picture symbols.
    Mavericks 10.9.4. Using FontAgentPro.
Is there a font that has to be activated? Or even a conflicting font that has to be deactivated like in Chrome?
    Thanx.

Validate your fonts using Font Book.
How to use Font Book to validate fonts
      1. Open Font Book in your Applications folder.
      2. Select All Fonts.
      3. Now click in the list of fonts and select all (Edit > Select All).
      4. Under File in the Menu bar, select Validate Fonts.
      5. Duplicate fonts will be marked with either the yellow badge or a black dot.
      6. Select to remove or delete duplicates.*
      7. Delete font caches (how to)
      8. Restart your computer
    * Step 6 – remove or delete duplicates is where the tricky part comes in. You can select to let Font Book disable or remove duplicates, but I’ve found that it removes the one you have not been using rather than selecting the best option. See Font Management in OS X, by Kurt Lang, for more info on fonts.

  • Looking for some creative guidelines for book formatting

I am formatting a book, my first one, and am about to start refining the overall formatting to make it look beautiful. I'm running into a bit of a creative block, and am looking for some basic guidelines for book formatting. I'm wondering about fonts, how many to use, ideas about heading heiarchy's, fonts for tables relative to the rest of my text, etc.  I have everthing formatted, but it just looks ackward and ugly because I don't have a sensitivity to the standards.
Does anyone know of a resource where I could find some guidance on this?

  • Looking for books published using iBooks Author

I'm looking for books published with iBooks Author and there's no way to search for this in the store as far as I know. If you've published a book using IBA, please post the link in the comments. Thank you

I´m thinking about what size of the text I should use.
Right now I have size 16 Palatino and small blocks of text so it should be easy to read
My experience is this: 16 point text looks (and is experienced as) standard print text in books.
Here's a trick for iPad vermisilitude I use on my iMac with 1920 x1080 resolution: In iBooks Author I set the screen to "Fit Page" and then resize the screen manually to 92%. This very closely matches an iPad screen. In my case, it helps with selecting fonts.
    All the best.

P.S. This would be better in a new forum.

  • Just bought an .OTF font for Flash CS6 and it's not showing up in the list.

Just bought an .OTF font for Flash CS6 and it's not showing up in the list.
    EscrowText-Roman.otf
Any reason why? It shows up in Illustrator and Photoshop just fine.

If you have never synced an audiobook yet, you have to connect your ipad and go to the books tab.
Scroll down past the regular books and there will be where you sync your audiobooks.
Then they will show up on the music app under "other"

  • Using system fonts for commercial printing?

    Hi,
Does anyone know the licensing rights/usage for using system fonts for commercial printing? If I understand correctly, system fonts that comes from operating system CAN be use because Apple purchase the rights on them and end users that purchase OS can use these fonts freely as long as not we are not redistributing them for profit, etc.
Can anyone point me in the right direction with official documentation on the subject?
    Thanks!

Never mind, I found the answer. It's in Apple's OS EULA.
"E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included
with the Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however,
you may only embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions
accompanying the font in question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font
    Book/Preview/Show Font Info panel."

  • Is it possible to use Apple's fonts for commercial use?

Is it possible to use Apple's fonts for commercial use?
    Thank you very much.

Here's a look at the font agreement section from OS X Mountain Lion:
    E. Fonts. Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, you may use the fonts included with the Apple Software to display and print content while running the Apple Software; however, you may only embed fonts in content if that is permitted by the embedding restrictions accompanying the font in question. These embedding restrictions can be found in the Font Book/Preview/Show Font Info panel.
So basically, you need to examine the fonts to see if there are notes on usage restrictions or limitations.

  • Dock icon font for iCal.

Hi--looked around and could not find this. I would like to know what font controls the display of the date in the dock icon. It's gone funny recently. I think probably I loaded a font that conflicts with Apple's preferred font for the application and/or replaced it.
I know it's a small thing but the icon displaying with the date all wrong offends my tender typographic sensibilities!
    Thanks for any help.

    riz,
It appears to me as if there may be cache corruption problems with your system.
Start up in "Safe Mode," then restart normally and repeat the "Resolve Duplicates" feature of Font Book.
If that is unsuccessful, download and install OnyX, which has a Font Cache cleaning option in the OnyX>Cleaning>Fonts>System and Users section. Other choices are also available in that section which may or may not apply to your system.
    Good Luck.

  • Good font for blogs?

What would you guys recomment as a non-traditional font for a blog? I'd like something that's different from the rest and catches the eye, but I still want it to be easy to read.
Right now I think I'm using a version of Arial with a dark blue color (it looks black).
    Thanks for all ideas!

Serif fonts have more warmth and character to them than fonts like arial, helvetica, verdana which seem to best suit the design fields and e-commerce sites.  For blogs where there is a lot of text, serif fonts can be better to read.  I like to use this group, Palatino Linotype,Book Antiqua,Palatino, serif  - We have it in use here: http://www.teufellandscape.com/blog
