Fonts from previous Indesign

I recently had my hard drive crash.  I though I had all my fonts backed up, but I didn't.  I've used Univers Lt on several of my documents, and of course this font came from a previous version of ID, but I'm not sure if I can get them off the CD.  Is there any way to get a copy of the fonts from previous version of ID if I have my key?
I'm not sure if I have access to the previous version installation cd.

Even if Adobe had such a facility (to provide downloads of fonts bundled with previous products that you already licensed), it would not help you in this case. No version of Univers has ever been bundled with InDesign or the Creative Suite.
Furthermore, none of the Univers fonts available from Adobe have been labelled as Univers LT. The Univers fonts in OpenType format are of the OpenType Std family. The older Type 1 versions of Univers had names of the form Univers ## where ## was a two digit number associated with the weight of the font. "LT" is the font ID associated with fonts sourced from the Linotype library, but Adobe never licensed fonts labelled as Univers LT.

  • Need fonts from previous Ps versions

How can I acquire the fonts from previous versions of Photoshop, like Boulevard, Edwardian Script, Papyrus, etc.?  I need them for continuity purposes.  Thanks

Fonts are just files which you can backup from your system's font folders such as explained here:
    Important Directories
If you have installed the old versions on some machine, you could retrieve them, put them on an USB stick or whatever and then reinstall them. The names you mention, though, sound like Fontfolio fonts for which you have to pay or if they ever were part of Adobe products, they are very, very old and may no longer be usable on modern operating systems.

  • Fonts missing in InDesign when they really aren't

I am using Adobe InDesign CS3 on the Windows platform, Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2.
When I open certain documents in InDesign, I receive the "missing fonts" message, with certain fonts highlighted. However, when I investigated further to see what the replacement font was(by going into the text box), the missing font was definitely listed in InDesign.
Missing fonts include Helvetica Neue LT Std 57 Condensed, and Helvetica Neue LT Std 37 Thin Condensed.

Hey! The fonts were installed via the fonts control panel. I actually don't have admin access at my work computer and have to get the I.T. guy to install the fonts for me (VERY irritating). (Another gripe is that he hasn't been able to figure out a way to give me permissions on Vista's font panel since it doesn't seem to work the same as a regular folder.)
Some of the fonts that don't work are Type 1 and some are TrueType, but most are the former (I think most all the fonts on my old system were Type 1). I think in some cases there are newer Open Type fonts on the computers that conflict with them somehow or something (?). I don't know. It's very annoying. I suspect if I slaughter all the fonts on the system and just install the old ones things will be okay. I'm hesitant to do that though as there are lots of new fonts I wouldn't mind checking out.
I blamed Vista because I've had no font problems moving from one XP machine to another regardless of what fonts were already on its system. But now that I've moved up to the new platform many of the fonts just aren't recognized. In one case I found that -- although I couldn't install the fonts from an InDesign package font folder -- they worked when I installed them from the original CD. That didn't make much sense as the files should have been the same.
But anyway, it's annoying. Most of my previous work can't be opened with the correct fonts any more. Blah.

  • Message error from Adobe Indesign : Default font Substituted for missing do.

    Hello,
Message error from Indesign : Default font substituted for missing font
I am currently using version "Adobe InDesign CS6 Middle East," which normally supports the Arabic language ...
The problem is that the characters display correctly and others not! Especially this "font" called "MunaPlain", this version was created in 1996. (on the Internet, I could not find a new version!)
According to research, test... i have found that Mac OS X Lion that causes this error!
    My question is:
Is that I could uninstall Mac OS X Lion to return to an older version as MAC OS X Leopard?
Is there an update or plugin indesign for Arabic? (except ScribDoor, because in this case, it is useless)
    Thank you!

For questions regarding Adobe apps, it is probably really best to ask Adobe or use their forums:
    http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa
I am amazed that an arabic font from 1996 would work correct anywhere today given the changes in technology that have occurred.  Is it really not possible for you to use a modern Unicode Arabic font for your work?  There are lots of them -- Apple gives you a half-dozen or so.  And there is a list at
    http://www.wazu.jp/gallery/Fonts_Arabic.html
Whether you can downgrade your os depends on your hardware.  If it came new with 10.7 installed, then it is not possible.

  • My script fonts have all disappeared from my Indesign.

Can you tell me how to get them back? Thanks.

I assume you do backups of your computer on a regular basis, correct? Try retrieving the fonts from your backup.
Information about which fonts were bundled with recent versions of Adobe's application software can be found at:
Creative Cloud fonts, installation, FAQ | Adobe
Fonts included with Adobe's Creative Suite 4 Applications
Font related documentation for Creative Suite 5
Font related documentation for Creative Suite 6
Bickham Script Pro, Voluta Script Pro, and Leander Script Pro are indeed Adobe Originals font families, but none of the fonts in those families have been bundled with any Adobe software.
Kaufmann Std is an ATF font available to license from Adobe, but has never been bundled with any Adobe software.
Palace Script Std is a Monotype font available to license from Adobe, but has never been bundled with any Adobe software.
My best guess is that somehow some of these fonts “hitchhiked” onto your system as part of InDesign or Illustrator document packages you may have received or worked on. Otherwise, unless you explicitly licensed these fonts, I have no idea how you got access to them originally.
That having been said, there is another solution that can help with three of the five font families! What version of InDesign are you using? If you are using the Creative Cloud version of InDesign with a full CC subscription, you can access Bickham Script Pro, Voluta Script Pro, and Leander Script Pro via the cloud-based Typekit service. The other two fonts are not available via Typekit.

  • Problem loading fonts from ID3 to ID CS5...

    Hello,
My company just upgraded from In Design 3 to In Design CS5 and I have tried to load some fonts from the previous version. I keep getting blocked. I drag and drop the fonts and I get this error message:

MAKE SURE THE DISK IS NOT FULL OR WRITE-PROTECTED
AND THAT THE FILE IS NOT CURRENTLY IN USE.
My co-worker has done the same thing and has had no problem. I've sent in a help desk ticket, but that was a while ago so I thought I'd give you a try.
    Thanks in advance

  • Hello. I am trying to self host Italia fonts (Book, Bold and Medium) on Adobe Muse. I purchased web fonts from Linotype that are "obfuscated" - which means the name is hidden. Apparently I also need to install system fonts. Can I install with code in muse

Hello! I am trying to self host Italia fonts in muse. I purchased from Linotype the web fonts. But they sent obfuscated fonts and code. I need to also install as system fonts and those do not work for that. We already have different Italia fonts that we owned prior but they are not obfuscated... Is this a problem? Is there an easier way I can do this? TIA!

    Abhishek,
Thank you for the reply. Wanted to comment on a few things.
I reviewed the other post that you've referenced. Nothing unusual jumped out at me as something that I was not aware of. I'm running an older iMac that is in good working condition. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24" screen. I know this issue is fleeting, as I stated earlier typically can be corrected with a restart of the CC Desktop application (that I am always running at startup). I have not been able to determine that shutting down Muse corrects the issue. I would, at this time say it doesn't.
I did open InDesign and see if the fonts in question, Open Sans and Open Sans Condensed, were present and usable. They were. The fonts are shown as being synched in my CC Desktop app window (even if they are not "installed" in Muse). That is expected but it may be a bug in how Muse brings in a font from those that are already synched to your CC account. I don't know enough about how that works to comment.
And just to complicate matters, Muse seems to be working again, the fonts that is. I brought them back in and they are showing up in all locations (which there are actually three - see screen shots).
First is primary text menu dropdown (to right of orange "Text").
Second is if you click orange Text link. Another drop down menu appears.
And lastly, the Text Panel to right of screen.
I also wanted to add this extra bit of information, for what it is worth. When the issue arises and you do not get the sub-menu dropdown showing various styles of the font (italics, bold, etc.), one can use click on the missing font if you had used it previously and it is present in the "previously used font" list.
    Cheers!

  • Font issues in InDesign CS6

I downloaded InDesign CS6 through Creative Cloud and am having lots of font problems. If I use any font other than an Adobe font or an Open Type font, I am unable to create an error-free pdf from the InDesign file. I can use True Type or Type 1 fonts in the document, but they won't embed into the pdf file. What gives?

Well, those fonts may simply not allow embedding. There is such a flag which font creators can set and Adobe apps honor this and do not embhed fonts they are not allowed to.... Anyway, ask in the ID forum and provide more details like what fonts you actualyl use, what system, what PDF settings and so on...

  • How do I keep my text formating when pasting from other InDesign files?

I'm trying to post charts from one InDesign file to another.  The chart I'm trying to paste has hand-made fractions in them. The font is superscript and baseline shifted. When I paste it into a new document, the text loses all that formatting. It seems like a preferance thing, but I can't find it.

Even if Placing an .indd file retains the formatting, it's a non-starter. The reason I needed to paste the formatted text in the first place was to create a variation of the ad for a different purpose, so I need to be able to edit the text - something you can't do with a placed file.
For instance, I created an ad for an exhibit that includes the date of the reception and the address of the museum, etc. Then I want to create a poster for the wall of the exhibit, so I create a new document with different specs. Placing the ad copy would serve no use since I have to edit the copy (removing the address and reception date) and then readjust the emphasis of each line slightly.
Then I created another new file (RGB, tall and skinny) for the email invite. So I needed to copy the ad copy  and again put emphasis in different places.
I hope you can see that there is a real need to be able to copy and paste manually formatted text from one document to another while retaining the special formatting. In these kinds of jobs there is no need to create a new style for each line of text since each line is tweaked and tweaked to death.
This copy & paste behavior is not intuitive and is obviously causing problems for users for no  reason whatsoever except that "Adobe knows best". Why can't Adobe trust that I knew what I was going when I applied the formatting in the first place?
Considering how easy it it to remove formatting and revert to the original style, I would say the nod should be given to retaining formatting upon pasting. Both Word and Quark do this, so it's not anything unusual. Or give us the choice with a Paste Special dialog. But saying this behavior is "as designed" or suggesting you need to place a file or PDF, is not the solution.

  • Fonts from an SVG not selectable in a PDF

    Hello,
We are importing SVG images into FrameMaker 7.1 and then creating a PDF (process is - In FrameMaker, print to file and then distill using Distiller 6).
When we open the PDF, some images are dropping various characters. For example, the letter "D" or "Z" will not show. In its place is a space.
When we check the Document Properties on the fonts, we get the following:
         Helvetica (Embedded Subset)
              Type: Type 1 (CID)
              Encoding: Identity-H
It appears the encoding to Identity-H is an issue. When we import any other image (ie wmf) into FrameMaker and create the PDF (same process), the encoding is Windows.
Could the encoding as Identity-H be the problem and is there a way to encode the font differently?
Also, when we copy any string of text in the image from the PDF and paste it into Wordpad, we don't get what we see in the image....All we get are boxes or gibberish (ie. $5!,0/7%2 ).6%24%2 -/$5,%)....Wordpad shows the font as being Hevetica-Identity-H. We don't not have this font installed, we have Helvetica Type 1.
Any insight would be very appreciated!
    Thanks
    G

Font modification refers to opening and subjecting a font file to edits in a font editor and outputting as a font. That is not the same as using the convert to outlines or rasterize functions available in Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop and subjecting those particular outlines or raster images to transformations and/or full edits.
The fonts in the Adobe Type Library internally sourced allow for end-user modifications, i.e. actual modifications to the fonts themselves. Those sourced externally, no. But you may convert any text using those fonts to outlines and apply artistic effects and modifications to those outlines (or rasters) within the context of the document you are working on. Obviously, you can't then attempt to create a font from all those modified outlines as a workaround!
For a comprehensive listing of fonts offered in the Adobe Type Library and their “additional license rights,” see <http://www.adobe.com/products/type/font-licensing/additional-license-rights.html>.
Attached to this posting are PDF files with the lists of fonts with specific “additional license rights.”

  • How do I update font from CS3 to CS5

I have been doing all of my design work on CS3 and finally left the dark ages for CS5. I converted my CS3 to CS5 on my old computer and things worked fine. Now, I have moved to a new computer with CS5 and when I imported my documents I got the missing text notice. It is for Lucidia Calligraphy and perpetua titling bold. I'm assuming those were fonts in the CS3 package. The question is can I import those fonts from the old computer into the new computer with CS5?? If so, how exactly would one go about doing that??

Neither of these fonts are installed with InDesign.
Restart your old computer and open one of the documents that contain these fonts. Then use Type > Find Font to get the location of these fonts (click the More Info button in this dialog). Note down the location, then use your OS to navigate to it (Finder or Explorer, it doesn't matter). ... Uh, I don't think CS3 had this wonderful option to immediately open an OS window at the font location in the Find Font dialog (yes, that same function that's not functioning on Windows 7!), but if it does you can use that instead.
Copy the font files on a removable device -- disk, USB stick -- or simply e-mail them to yourself. Then install them on your new system by following the approved steps for your specific OS.

  • How to make the application access the fonts from outside library?

actually the fonts located in the library are considered from the system/library/fonts path. is it possible to make it accessible from outside that path through programatically for indesign applications? if yes means, how to do it?
    thanks

i think am not mentioned the question clear.
the fonts menu inside InDesign lists the fonts from
    for mac: System/Library/Fonts
                  Adobe InDesign CS2/fonts
    for windows: C:\WINDOWS\Fonts
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\Fonts
is it possible to list the font from someother folder rather than this folders.

  • Copying cordia new font (thai) into indesign

    Hello lovely people!
Im a graph designer, but i dont have much experience in using multicultural fonts.Im currently working with thai font in ID CS5
and im having issues copying and pasting the font from word or outlook into ID CS5.When i copy it over the font cordia new
is not consistant with what it looks like in word. Some characters are not copying over correctly.I have tried using another
font which was DokChampa, which displayed the problematic characters correctly, but then this font displayed other characters
incorrectly apparently.Im going to have to work with chinese, arabic, and korean font later down the track too.
Does anyone have any tips for this problem, possibly a different thai font type that works good for copying & pasting?
Thanks and have a great day

Well, Jess, you said the magic words:
    non for profit
as I am the DTP wonk in... a not-for-profit translation firm.   Having in-house review resources is invaluable. Of course, they may not be able to spot typographical issues, as that does actually require some training that you don't get in typical schooling. I quite often correct my native-speaker coworkers and pro translator contractors on issues of typography in Chinese, Arabic, et cetera. However, your coworkers be able to guarantee legibility, which is what we both really need out of our layouts, right?
I can help you set up a decent toolset for handling these languages - I've been working on a basic howto with a bunch of links, but it's rather far down on my to-do list.  You can use a variety of templates & scripts to access InDesign's hidden multilingual features, of which the World-Ready Composer is the most important. However, the most comprehensive solution does cost a bit of money. If you can squeeze a hundred some-odd dollars out of a budget somewhere, then buying World Tools or World Tools Pro will make the money back for you in a few working days, if you're making more than US minimum wage. Seriously, it's the most effective money I've ever spent in this career, hands down. (The Pro version is totally necessary if you want to do Japanese.)
If you download a demo, you can use it to turn on the WRC on your Thai text. Or, you can follow the first link from a Google search on "World Ready Composer" to Thomas Phinney's blog post about it; you'll find some scripts that are named as if they are only useful for right-to-left languages, but if you open those scripts up in a text editor you'll see that some of them just assign the WRC and nothing else. That, at least, will get your Thai to compose correctly.

  • Missing fonts from CS3 in CS5.5, ex Adobe Rekord. How do I export them?

Just upgraded from CS3 (windows version) to CS5.5 (Mac OS version).
In CS3 we created alot of nice artwork with Font built in InDesign.
Now when we migrated to CS5.5 the Fonts are not possible to import into Mac OS.
Has anyone a solution to this?
Thank you so much for your time
    Dag

Thank you so much for your quick answer.
Instead of giving you an exact answer which fonts we are using and missing, I will give you all that we are missing:
    They are all Adobe Fonts:
Alleycat ICG, ITC American Typrewriter, Americana, ITC Anna, Baker Signet, ITC New Bakerville, Bell Gothic, ITC Benguiat, Bickley Script, Birch, Blackoak, ITC Bookman, Caslon, Century Old Style, ITC Cheltenham, ITC Eras, ITC Espirit, ITC Fenice, ITC Flora, Fritz Quadrata, ITC Galliard, Adobe Garamond, ITC Giovanni, Isabella, ITC Kabel, Kaufmann, ITC Korinna, LetterGothic (T1), ITC Machine, Madrone, Myriad, Ocra, ITC Officina Sans, ITC Officina Serif, Orator, P22 Corinthia, Parisian, Park Avenue, Poplar, Rekord, Serpentine, ITC Slimbach, ITC Tiepolo, Trajan, ITC Veljovic, Wiesbaden Swing, Willow, Adobe Wood type
    Good to know:
the fonts are not stored in C:/windows/fonts
    Nor are they in adobe/indesign/fonts
And last, it was not possible to pack a file, with fonts, on the old computer, export via USB stick, and then import into MacOS. MacOS did not like the fonts at all.
I called Adobe support to make them give me a new license key so I could install CS3 on MacOS and thereby get the fonts but they refused.
    Looking forward to your help!
