Fonts going missing mac cs3

hello,
i have been stuck with this problem for weeks now. i have a
number of fonts that have gone missing from the font list. I get
prompted upon opening files (that i previously built in fireworks)
that the font cannot be found and needs replaced.
i have uploaded a
screenshot of font book / the font in illy / the font not in
fireworks here
this happens with a number of fonts, not just the one in this
example. the font in question is installed in the users font
library and it makes no difference if i move it to the computers
library.
any help would be very much appreciated.
cheers

hi david,
Is it possible for you to share that particular font file
with us (if it's not proprietary)? We can also have a look and see
whats going wrong there. Also, are you using FWCS3 or CS4?

  • Mac Pro / System Gets "Choppy" / File Goes Missing

    Hi all,
I recently got a Mac Pro Quad-Core ($2,499 stock model) MB871LL1/A. I am using a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical and MS Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 that did not come with the system itself that has never given me problems before.
For the first few nights, everything seemed fine with the included iLife apps (such as iMovie, iDVD, etc)
I later received the Final Cut Studio 3 Upgrade last night, so I installed and started experimenting with applications. Namely. FCP and Motion. Earlier projects were updated and saved and rendered speedy and normal.
Two things happened while rendering a NEW project with either Motion 4 itself as well as Compressor 3.5:
    ISSUES:
    1. Mouse movement became extremely erratic, and the cursor would jump across the screen instantaneously. I couldn't control the mouse at all. Every movement would cause the cursor to jump around erratically. It felt like someone may have been sabotaging the mouse movement! I turned Bluetooth off as well as disconnected my LAN cable just to be sure. Still happening.
    2. System 'responsiveness' became very choppy, and in some cases would remain that way after closing the apps (though not always).
    3. I rebooted my system and reloaded my project. The project used just one font (Garamond). Motion reported that the font was missing - I checked with Font Book as well as the /Fonts directory itself and Garamond was indeed erased from the system.
    SOLUTIONS?
I tried using "Rember" (freeware memtest app) and RAM checked out fine. Disk Utility reported the disk was fine.
I may consider re installing everything before my Genius Bar appointment (next available is "Tuesday 9:15am" at my nearest store), and I'd like to think that it's just this project file causing the problem (it's basically one Camera that dollies forward through four words in 3d space, pretty simple). However I want to prevent this from happening again and I'm worried there might be something wonky in the hardware on my Mac.
I know this is all very strange, but has anyone heard of an issue like this or might know why that was happening?

Jumpy mice gets mentioned, some attribute it to video problems I think.
I assume you have the latest MS Optical driver.
Always clone a system before installing apps or updates so you have a backup you can boot from.
Don't rely on just Apple DU First Aid. Time to invest in 3rd party, though if you plan on jumping to Snow immediately might want to wait on that.
You may find 3GB RAM is just not going to cut it though, that is extremely minimum and base system, not what you want for what you are doing. With quad 4-dimm setup, I'd look at either 4 x 2GB or 3 x 4GB to give you 8-12GB RAM. 3 x 2GB should be minimum (unless just using it for email and web).
Also, optimize your files and storage if you haven't: boot drive, editing and scratch, media files on 3rd drive, maybe setup 2-3 drive RAID at some point.
Lot of adjusting and changes that go along with any new system regardless of what you ran before.

  • Fonts went missing when I upgraded from the trial version (mac)

I'd been happily working away in a file using ID CC with no problems whatsoever when my trial period expired. A couple of days later, I purchased a subscription, then opened ID back up and opened up the exact same file.
When I reopened the file, it told me that all my fonts were missing, and it was going to replace them with Minion Pro (no thanks).
I checked fontbook and confirmed that those fonts are, in fact, all installed on my computer. (Even though I was sure they were because I'd been successfully using them shortly before.) I tried uninstalling and reinstalling them. I also tried closing and reopening the document, and shutting down the program, as well as shutting down my computer. Nothing has made any difference. Trying to find the fonts in preflight hasn't helped at all.
The problem is not that my fonts aren't installed, it's that ID stopped recognizing them, even though they are installed, when I switched from the trial version to a subscription.
I haven't found anyone else with quite this same problem.
    Any ideas?

I meant do you have a third-party font manager, and I see the answer is no.
And the font's don't appear inthe font list, or Find Font, at all?
If that's the case I might sayt it's time to uninstall, run the cleaner tool (CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall.

  • Fonts are missing after reloading ID-CS3

The nightmare continues. After having a major corruption of all Adobe software about a month ago, my IT person finally had to completely wipe my machine clean and reload everything. I am on Windows Vista and using Adobe CS3 Design Standard.
Now, with everything reloaded, my Adobe InDesign fonts are missing. There is nothing in the InDesign fonts folder. What can I do to get all my InDesign fonts back?

I found lists for ID CS, and Creative Suites 3 and 4. The list for CS2 appears to have been an attached PDF that is no longer attached.

  • Default font directory for Flash CS3 on Mac OS X?

Hi, I've installed a couple of fonts on my Mac that I want to use in Flash CS3, but they're not showing up in the font list. Where/how do I install them so that Flash will pick them up?
    Thanks in advance!
    Don

Thanks for popping in, but after hours of reinstalling and upgrading stuff, I'm finally where I need to be. Apparently, something went wonky with my Mac's font system, and it took me forever to clean everything up. But I think I'm golden now. Thanks!

  • Missing fonts OTF cs4 mac/win .eps

.eps created with Windows CS4 on windows OTF
-On OSX 10.5 CS4 .eps says Fonts are missing (Happens whether or not Font Reserve is active or not active)
-On OSX 10.4 CS4 .eps opens fine without any fonts in fonts folders (and NO Font Reserve running)
    Things I tried:
Fontbook not using fonts in question or conflicting as far as I can see.
Cleaned all Fonts on system using Finagler
    .eps not corrupt
What could cause this to happen?

Permissions problem on one ofte systems.
try repairing the permissions or perhaps an update for the software.
    Font cache difficulty.

  • Preferences keep going missing

This is really strange. On my Mac Pro (quad core) running 10.5.1, I keep having preferences go missing. This didn't start happening until after I'd upgraded to Leopard and started using Time Machine for backups, but I can't pinpoint the cause.
I had been using a notepad program called Sidenote which stores notes in ~/Library/Application Support/Sidenote. One day, all the notes were gone and I had to restore them using Time Machine.
I use a utility called Textpander that does autotyping. Several times now I've tried to activate it to find all my preferences gone. Those are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Textpander. I had to restore the settings with Time Machine each time.
Twice now, after plugging in my iPhone and going to iTunes, I've found that the checkboxes in the Info tab to sync the Address Book, Calendar and Safari bookmarks have been unchecked. I have no idea where those settings are kept. Luckily, the settings in all the other tabs seem unaffected.
I have to wonder what other of my preferences are going missing and I haven't noticed yet. Nobody else uses my Mac. I don't run much "weird" software. My Mac never sleeps; it stays on all day and all night unless I have to restart it for some reason or I'm going away for the weekend.
    What could possibly cause this?

There is a display bug, but it still works okay -
I prefer Arial to the default Helvetica, so that's what I set -
When I first open a new message window, it displays Helvetica as the font -
However, as soon as I type the first character, it switches to showing Arial as the font -
    ...and actually enters in Arial.

  • Illustrator 10 - "the encoding (CMap) specified by a font is missing"

    Ni hao,
I'm trying to design a brochure in Illustrator 10 using Chinese characters. I'm running Leopard 10.5.8 on a PowerPC G4.
I have my Chinese text in a Word document in the 'Hei' font. I am able to successfully copy and paste the Chinese text into my Illustrator file, but when I try to save my Illustrator file, it fails and I get this error message:
"the encoding (CMap) specified by a font is missing"
    Thanks for the help!

  • Encoding Cmap specified by a font is missing Error Message

    Hello all,
I'm afraid I'm having an issue with Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro running on Windows XP SP3. I've searched the depths of the internet to find a solution to no avail. Here is hoping this isn't a lost effort to finally get someones support and assistance with the issue.
I work in the IT field and I am seeing an error message on one of our users systems. "The encoding (Cmap) specified by a font is missing." It seems to show up when the user attempta to delete a particular PDF page or replace a certain page. As far as I can understand, this has something to do with the PC itself as I had the user attempt the same process on another PC running Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Pro.
I can't find any solution on the internet, but I did notice that other programs people have used have generated the same error message.
Please help as I am becoming exhausted researching the cause of the error.
    Thank you,
    TS

  • Date and time keeps going missing!

Hi everybody, my date and time keeps going missing from the top bar every time I turn on my mac - sometimes other things go missing, like the airport status.
It used to happen just once a fortnight but after I installed the latest security update, it seems to be happening every time. Does anybody have a reason/fix? Would be much appreciated. Thankyou!

Hi appleoclock, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Not sure this works since that Qursical update, but the cure for that used to be...
    Apple Menu Bar Icons Gone
You've probably got a couple of corrupt preference files.
    In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
In "/Users/<yourname>/Library/Preferences/ByHost", delete com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string.
This will reset your Menu Bar to the default, you'll need to go through System Preferences to reset the ones you need. (If they are already checked, uncheck them first and then recheck them).

  • Printer goes missing on airport extreme

How do I get my airport extreme to recognize my wireless printer

You really asked two questions - printer goes missing and how to get the Airport to recognize the printer.  Does it initially recognize the printer then it disappears?  When it disappears does it really (on the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Network Test) or does it just disappear from your Mac?
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Fonts in In Design CS3

I have created a book in CS2. When I open it in CS3 it states that the fonts are missing. ie. it doesn't have them in the list. Obviously, using another negates the formatting and all the lines are incorrect lengths. The most important font is "Prestige Elite Std". Do I have to purchase this in order to use it again or can I somehow retrieve it from somewhere?

No. Just an upgrade program. And...actually, I just found them in Word. Do I have to move them into In Design somewhere?
    Thanks

  • Mail goes missing after downloaded from POP server

I have never run into this before. I have on this brand new MacMini (2 weeks old) with one POP email account set-up on Mac Mail 2.1.1 and in one folder the messages are going missing. Anything about 3-4 days old are fine, but the rest give me a message telling me to download them from the server. In the Mail preferences I have it set to remove from the server after one week, but considering this is a POP account it should have been downloaded to the computer once mail is checked from what I understand. I have seen this problem before with IMAP, but not POP. Now in other folders this isn't happening, not the Inbox or Sent just this one folder. I rebuilt the folder and these messages were completely deleted. Then I repaired permissions, however, in the log it didn't say that there was any issues with Mail. Does anyone have any insight or any suggestions? I just don't want this happening again in the future. Thanks.

If this is a custom “On My Mac” mailbox, in the
    Finder go to ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes/. Can
you see the mailbox there? Report its contents.
Note: For those not familiarized with the
~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home
folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder
    within the user’s home folder.
SAME PROBLEM. SUSPECTED PAST WEEK AS TRASH AND DELETED MAIL DISAPPEARED. FOLLOWED YOUR SUGGESTION LIBRAY/MAIL/MAILBOXES.
NOTHING THERE IN DELETED/MESSAGES AND OUTBOX/MESSAGES
    SPOOKY! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP.

  • Wifi Adapter Goes Missing After Working

HP Paviliion laptop running Windows 8 from factory recovery (2 times). Problem:  WiFi works then adapter goes missing.  Device Manager / Network shows only the wired card.   Scan for new hardware yields nothing new. Wifi button shows toggle from Airplane Mode Off / Airplane Mode On OK.  This is the F12 button (I mentioned this because on a MSI 6200 series laptop the wifi button and another are mislabeled). Could it be the wifi card going bad since I don't see the card in Device Manager? Thanks. Darryl

  • Creative Cloud Font going Crazy

I downloaded the Futura PT font from the Creative Cloud site. As can be seen in the link below, I had just made a simple title with the first line using the Heavy weight and the rest using the Book weight. Today when I sat down to my Mac and opened the After Effects project, it said the font was missing. I then noticed that the Creative Cloud icon was missing from my desktop. I closed AE, opening up CC, reopened AE and the font was there again. The AE sequence was part of a Premier Pro project using Dynamic Linking, but my problem occured in AE as well. For some reason a couple of the frames at two differnt places revert back to Myriad Pro, which I think is the default font. I couldn't figure out why. Nothing I tried would make it stick. I eventually just remade the comp from scratch, and it is working fine now.
Here is what it looks like http://youtu.be/D_dHp6bYiF0

Read up on web authoring. Nothing to do with any magic "export" or whatever. You include them in your CSS definitions and put them on the server, if that is technically and legally possible with a given font. You may need pay extra licensing cost for web use.
