Fonts have vanished !

...and I have no idea why. I only have one font manager, the default 'Font Book'.
This has happened a few times now, and it is a little frustrating. I should have 168 fonts- but now a load have gone missing and I only have 74 fonts.
I have tried to add the missing ones back using font book, and although the little 'busy' wheel spins for a few moments, the fonts do not reappear in font book.
This is a bit worrying as this usually solves the problem. If anyone can help, it would be great.
Not sure if it has any relevance, but I have MS Office 2004 and iWork '05 installed.

At this point, your font count keeps changing because you have created a ton of font conflicts. A conflict occurs when you have identical, or identically named fonts active at the same time. By doing the copy/paste into the /Library/Fonts/ folder, you created a conflict for every font that also exists in the ~/Library/Fonts/ (home account) folder.
There's a couple things you can do that should clear it up.
1) If you have a complete set of fonts in the /Library/Fonts/ folder, then delete all of them from your user account.
2) Follow these steps as outlined by Dr. Smoke in Undoing Font Book. Then follow this additional step. Download and run Mark Douma's Font Finagler to clear the font cache files on the system.
Once you restart after following the instructions for Font Book and clearing the caches, your font problems should be cleared up. Note that any font collections you may have created will be gone.

  • Installed typekit fonts have vanished.

The other day I took advantage of the new typekit fonts for the desktop. Was very pleasently surprised to see them magically appear in InDesign. Went ahead a used one in a project. After doing some housekeeping with Onyx, they are no longer there.
I am assuming emptying the font cache had something to do with it, but how do I get them back? CC desktop says they are synced, but this does not help.

    Marcy,

  • OTF/PS fonts have recently stopped rendering in Flash Pro CS3 on Windows 7/64

Recently, a number of my OTF/PS fonts have stopped rendering when used in Flash Pro CS3. The fonts appear in the fonts menu, render properly in the font preview popup in the font menu, but the fonts fail to render on stage when used, with certain exceptions:
--If Bitmap Text is selected, the fonts appear (but aliased)
--If Anti-alias for animation is selected, then the text appears when text insertion is active in the text box, but vanishes when focus shifts to another element, tool, selection
In all other cases and for all other settings (yes, including black text with 100% alpha on a white background, etc etc), the text shows solely as transparent. You can select the text (although not see what you're selecting), cut and paste, and as you change the font size, kerning, justification, bold, italic, etc, the text boxes resize as normally expected; simply, the text does not show up.
The fonts work normally in all other CS3 and Windows applications, and up until about last week (Dec 12 or so), used to work fine in Flash.
The problem fonts appear to be (primarily Open Type Format) Post Script Outline fonts.
I have installed all Windows updates, Flash Pro CS3 updates, deleted the Flash user config files, deleted and reinstalled the fonts, and copied the fonts to the C:/user/Program Files/Common/Adobe/Fonts folder.
There were no new installations (applications, fonts, etc) around the time when the error started showing up, aside from possibly Windows updates.
Given the timing (worked fine Tuesday, failed on Wednesday), I believe a Windows update may have been at least partially responsible, though perhaps it's the Mayan apocalypse.

  • Help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

What do I have to do in creating a Keynote presentation on my MAC so that when I send it to my iPad, I don't have to re-do the presentation all over again as the fonts have changed, sizing has changed and everything is basically a mess?
I have downloaded many of my previous Keynote presentation into my new ipad mini and not ONE has opened properly
Rather defeats the purpose of icloud, synching, Keynote on IOS etc doesn't it?
    Any tips anyone?
    Cheers
    Philip

Thanks for this Gary. Much appreciated. Will help with future ones.
Still a bit like using keynote in 'safe mode' and very limiting.
If anyone produces an 'auto convert' app that will save me the work of fixing existing presentations slide by slide, I'm buying it :-)
    Thanks again

  • How can I find my email in Apple Mail from before my company switched hosting providers?  People with Outlook have all of their old and new emails.  My old emails have vanished from Apple Mail.

How can I find my email in Apple Mail from before my company switched hosting providers?  People with Outlook in my company have all of their old and new emails.  My old emails have vanished from my Apple Mailbox on my macbook and other Apple devices.  I do not have my mail backed up in time machine recently nor did I export my emailbox recently.  Any ideas?

Try looking in your User folder.
Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I have to use it again after every update. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.

We have a newish apple mac and this morning all our files have vanished - all photo's, vidoes, music etc.  How can we get it back?  Thanks

First of all, look in the garbage. It's easy to move a folder there without knowing it.
Second, do a Spotlight Search (Cmd-Space), and search for a file you know should be there. If you find the file, there's a good chance that the other files you're looking for are there, too.
If you're in kind of a crisis mode, coming up with pat advice probably isn't a good policy - but I suggest investing in a backup drive in case anything goes wrong. A program like Time Machine can be a life saver.
    Post with your results!

  • My bookmarks have vanished and I can't add them again

I went to use Safari and my bookmarks have vanished. I'm not sure exactly when but they have gone and I'm left with Apple, google, bing, yahoo and the iPad user guide. I can't seem to add any bookmarks now either. Not sure why this has happened. Any one have any idea how to fix this?

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

    Hello,
Why do you need to use the regasm utility from the post-build action?
There is a difference between signing the assembly with a strong name and digital signature. The
How to: Sign an Assembly with a Strong Name article in MSDN explains how to sign an assembly with a strong name (.snk). See
How to digitally sign a strong named assembly for adding a digital signature.

  • Email fonts have changed and scroll bar missing

Not sure how, but when using Firefox and opening my email all my fonts have changed to 8pt size and all regular font (i.e., not bold for unread msgs) and the scroll bar is missing.
When I open email using another browser, all email settings are consistent/normal as they were before and the scroll bar is visible/in position.

  • Fonts have disappeared

Hi, i'm hoping someone can help me....
Im having issues with font book. It's currently empty and all my fonts have disappeared. If i try to install a font it will appear in font book until i restart my computer, then it will disappear again. All Microsoft fonts are non-existent. The only fonts i can access in Microsoft applications are Mac System fonts (which aren't very many). I have looked in the font disabled folder and its empty. I have also downloaded linotype font explorer and it hasn't helped the situation.
This problem all started when i downloaded some fonts from the net for teaching purposes (which i will never do again after all the problems its caused me).
Can anyone help with idea's on how to restore all my fonts? Any advice is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ell

These fonts are not standard system fonts. They were most likely added by another app or you installed them manually at some point. For OCR A and B, the old Bitstream versions are installed by CorelDraw for instance. Without knowing which app it actually was, though, your best option is to track them down using font sites such as DaFont.

  • Fonts have dissappeared

My fonts have disapperead overnight, ie Marker felt font is not available anymore. A lot of programs (ie iTunes ) don't really work, I can't edit photo sets anymore.
    List of my /Library/Fonts:

    Hi Achille,
To start out, run Disk Utility and verify the disk. If it finds any problems, boot from your Tiger DVD and repair the volume.
Secondly, verify the fonts by using Font Book.
Thirdly, shutdown the Mac, and then turn it back on while holding the shift key. Continue to hold shift until you see the Apple logo appear. This will boot into safe mode, which clears your font caches. Be patient - this process can sometimes take 8 minutes or so. Once the Mac is booted in safe mode, restart it normally and see if the problem persists.

Well, your profile info says 10.4.11, and you are posting your question in the iMac (PPC) category.  If you are running Snow Leopard, it must be a fairly recent Intel iMac.
In that case, you should definitely post your question here
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.6_snow_leopard
where other Snow Leopard users can see your question.  Restate the problem, what error messages you get, and what you have tried already (for trouble-shooting).

  • Since changing account name fonts have gone bold in Safari 3.1

I've renamed the admin account on my eMac, which proved to be a bad idea.
Since I've got everything back all of my Safari fonts have changed. The default font appears different and most of the link boxes are heavy bold black rather than light bold blue.
Any ideas why this has happened.
From earlier discussions I have validated my Font Book app and resolved duplicates. Restarted, but the prob remains.
    Thanks.

  • Help! My fonts have ruined my life!

I purchased some fonts online and copied them over to my fonts folder under the library.
Since then my website fonts are clear and I can't read anything. I also seem to have done something to parallels because I can't flip over to Vista. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
    Sean

Make sure that your fonts have been copied to your font folder in your user library folder and not the system font library folder.
